This article presents abstracts of papers presented at the 1964 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Criminology in Montreal, Canada, on December 28-30, 1964. The paper entitled Father-Daughter Incest: Treatment of the Family, reports on the treatment of twenty families with the problem of father-daughter incest where the father did not serve a prison sentence but was placed on probation. The paper entitled Evaluation of Records in Delinquency Research, focuses on the Southern California Records Matching Project which deals with the manner in which the records of delinquency adjudicating agencies at the local level maybe linked with Federal Census Records in order to maximize the efficiency of data collection and analysis. The paper entitled Juvenile Court Judge's Institute, summarized attacks on the Juvenile Court from any quarters, the weaknesses that inspire these attacks, and the crucial role that the Juvenile Court has to play in spearheading the introduction of personalized justice in the administration of the criminal law. The paper entitled A Spectrum of Sexual Problems Found in an Out-Patient Setting, focuses on the Forensic Clinic which was established in 1956. It is an out-patient division of the Toronto Psychiatric Hospital operated by the Ontario Department of Health under provincial statute.

This article presents the text of a paper about origins and perspectives of the international representative read at the Nineteenth Annual Convention of the American Catholic Sociological Society at the Trinity College in Washington, D. C., on December 28-30, 1957. This paper is a discussion of a conceptual framework which has developed in connection with a study of the role of international representatives as a significant role in the American labor movement. The focus of the present discussion is on the role of international representatives as a non-professional role which is nevertheless capable of professionalization. This paper will further attempt to show that both short-run and long-run conditions affecting the trade union movement generally, and the role of international representatives in particular, require that this role become fully professionalized. The term "international representative" is employed in this discussion to signify the role of those officials who represent the international or national office at the local level. By an international office is meant the central office of a union having locals both in the U.S. and Canada.

The article focuses on the Annual Meeting of the National Microfilm Association held at the Hotel Carter, Cleveland on April 1 and 2, 1954. Delegates from every part of the country, from Canada and a visitor from Pakistan attended the two day meeting to participate in a general and technical program which explored the current status and latest advances of techniques of micro-documentary reproduction under the leadership of nationally known authorities. The program featured important papers on general and technical subjects.

The Seventh International Meeting of the Institute of Management Sciences will be held in New York City from October 19 to 22. The Argentine Operations Research Society had elected officers of its directing council. The Operations Research Association of Bangalore held its Third Annual General Meeting in Bangalore, India in February 27. The Canadian Operations Research Society has elected D. B. DeLury as president.

In August 1974, the International Sociological Association (ISA) will hold its Eighth World Congress of Sociology in Toronto in Ontario, Canada, and thereby afford an accessible opportunity for many North American sociologists to participate. The reorganization of the International Sociological Association by its Council in 1970 at Varna, Bulgaria, during sessions of the Seventh World Congress of Sociology was desired to strengthen the autonomy and effectiveness of its thirty research committees. This should provide opportunity for greater involvement for individual sociologists, both in the periodic international meetings and in the ongoing work of the ISA. These organizational changes come at an appropriate period in that North American sociologists are now demonstrating a stronger interest in cross-national sociology. This article is designed to describe to the membership of the American Sociological Association the implications of the new format of the International Sociological Association for international intellectual cooperation.

This article provides information on an invitation made by the Program Committees of the American Sociological Association (ASA) for members to submit their suggestions for the 1974 program in Montreal, Quebec. President-elect Peter Blau has scheduled a meeting of his program committee on February 3 and 4. The VIII World Congress of the International Sociological Association will be held in Ontario the week before 1974 ASA meeting in Montreal.

The article presents updates concerning the field of operations research as of 1959. The Operations Research Society of America is one of the three original members of the International Federation of Operational Research Societies. The first annual meeting of the Canadian Operational Research Society will be held in Toronto, Ontario from May 7 to 8. The Philadelphia Section of the Operations Research Society of America has elected Franklin H. Fowler, Jr. as chairman and Robert Mirsky as vice chairman.

The article presents a discussion on the effects of Oriental immigration on the ideology and practices of the organized labor movement in Canada from the Eighteen Eighties, when the Trades and Labor Congress (TLC) of Canada was founded, until the close of the Second World War. In order to obtain an adequate historical perspective, the data were reviewed in the context of four of the major periods of Canadian social and economic development: industrial capitalism and the rise of the city with the concomitant birth of nation-wide unionism (1880-1899); the development of western Canada and the tidal wave of immigration (1900-1914); from the First World War to the depression (1914-1929); from the depression to the close of the Second World War (1930-1946). During this first period there was incorporated into the Platform of Principles of the TLC a ninth and new principle which read "Exclusion of all Chinese from Canada." This policy led the TLC into conflict with the Federal Government and with a large section of the employer class. Organized labor claimed that, in this principle, it was supporting the best interests of the country as a whole.

Most of the practising nurses of the 80,000 member Canadian Nurses' Association work in up-to-date communities with all modern facilities. A few hundred, however continue to man remote outposts in vast areas of Canada far removed from heavily populated centres. The article provides updates on progress and developments in the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC). As of May 31, 1968, the CEC has now 37,365 members enrolled in its chapters, federations, and branches. There were over 8,335 student members who are currently enrolled in CEC. The council now has also 38 federations, 555 local chapters and 9 divisions in both the U.S. and Canada. The author of this article also outlines the publications and services offered by the council, as well as the highlights of the "CEC Leadership Conference."

The article comments on the future of the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC). The author asserts that the CEC of the year 2000 is similar to the CEC of 1968. He predicts that the council's expansion and organizational progress in both the U.S. and Canada will increase by 2000. The membership of the council in 1968 is over 36,000 and by 2000 it will go over 100,000 members. However, the author suggests that institutional organizations like CEC are evolved and not revolutionized despite of its organizational progress. He also outlines several factors that could change the organization within the next 30 years.

Any student who has an opportunity to attend an International Council of Nurses (ICN) conference should not miss it. The chance to talk with the nursing leaders of all countries in many languages was only one of the things found beneficial. Disappointment was felt by the majority of students that nothing had been organized for them, whether by the ICN organizing committee or by the Mexican nursing students. Many Canadian students expressed concern that even in Canada they do not have a body representing nursing students from all types of programs across the country.

The article reports that the board of governors of the Council for Exceptional Children has approved the establishment of an office in Canada. This office will develop national membership recruitment programs, as well as programs designed to serve exceptional children in Canada. It is expected to improve the education of exceptional children in the country.
