Abstract
The article discusses the international competition by the paper cutting machines manufacturer Lawson Co. It relates on the purchase by Miehle-Coss-Dexter Inc. (M-C-D) to Lawson due to a drop on profit margins in overseas markets. It cites that affiliation of M-C-D with Ontario-based R. McDougall Co. helps the Lawson on the production sales in Canada while enabling to control its costs in the U.S. Lawson Co. division president E. M. Abrams adds that the company able to reduce equipment prices.
A list of chronological events of inventions during the period of 1840 to 1895 in the U.S. is presented. It includes a machine for making, ruling, and cutting paper invented by John Ames on 1840 and another is an electric telegraph invented by Samuel F. B. Morse. Lastly, a soda water cooler invented by A. D. Puffer on 1844.
The article presents a list of inventions from 1800 to 1825 in the U.S. John Biddis of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania has invented the potato starch processing in 1802. A machine for simultaneous cutting and heading tacks was invented by Jesse Reed in 1807. Thomas Blanchard has invented a lathe for making gun stock in 1820.
