The article focuses on the book "Promena dru&sbreve;tvene sredine i promene u porodici," by Darinka Kostić Marojević. The book presents an empirical socio-economic investigation on the influence of social environment on the changing rural family. Dealing with sociological problems, the author has analysed changes in family structure, in its functions and values, through six institutional continua of family life, namely, bio-social, economic, technical standards of living, educational structure, professional structure, family habits and system of relation. Two groups of rural households are compared: the home group as a control group, involving the rural households in Grahovo commune, Montenegro and the colonist group as the experimental one, involving those agricultural families, which have been transferred for re-settlement after the second world war from Montenegro to Vrbas in Voivodina. The new social environment was taken as the independent variable and changing family life as the dependent one. The author has discussed family changes over the sixteen years, 1946 to 1961, on the basis of statistical data and information collected by interviewing heads of rural households.
