There is little agreement on producer costs and consumer benefits resulting from meat imports. This paper utilizes a spatial equilibrium model to analyze the regional impact of three levels of lamb imports on United States lamb producers and consumers. Results demonstrate regional as well as quarterly variation. Most of the variation is explained by quarterly marketing patterns, shifts in demand, changes in optimum distribution patterns, changes in levels of imports and ports of entry, and restricted ports of entry for imports. Newborn lambs were exposed daily to viable Brucella abortus S19 for the first 65 days of life and their serological response studied to the same and closely related organisms when encountered later in life. When challenged as young adults these lambs showed a very marked suppression of agglutinin formation which was of short duration and had been preceded by a lag phase. Increased proportion of non-agglutinating antibodies to agglutinins was noted, which could be demonstrated by the agglutination inhibition test. Complement-fixing antibodies were detected in the sera of test and control animals in roughly similar amounts after challenges and were present long after the disappearance of agglutinins.
