The article informs that most of the work in the area of isolation and sensory deprivation has focused on the disorganizing effects of reduced stimulus input. The S's for this experiment were eight female students from an introductory course in psychology who volunteered with only the knowledge that the experiment involved visual and auditory deprivation. A completely dark semi-sound proofed room was used. Fiberboard panels covered the windows, and a door of double thickness with an acoustically tiled ceiling and carpeted floor eliminated visual stimulation and kept auditory stimulation to a minimum. This experiment studied the effects of stimulus deprivation on kind of verbal behavior produced.
