The article discusses a technique on predicting earthquakes developed by seismologist Yash Aggarwal and scientist Lynn Sykes of Columbia University's Lamont-Doherty Geological Observatory with Stanford University Scientist Amos Nur. Aggarwal and Sykes studied the area in the Blue Mountain Lake region of the Adirondack Mountains in New York by using seismographs in addition to a permanent station already in place in 1971 where they experienced tremors in a calm region. It also cites that the technique is based on the P- and S-wave phenomenon, which was first reported in 1969 by Soviet scientists.
