This article focuses on the book "China: The Land and the People," by Gerald F. Winfield. Its a pungent, earthy book full of the biological realities that chain most Chinese to a poverty level of existence. Those Americans who loudly proclaim the solution of China's problems in a few catch phrases should be required to read the entire book down to the last Liver fluke. Perhaps some of them will then join the author in believing that "there is no simple, no easy, no quick solution" for China. First chapters down the long winding path on the south bank of the Yangtze from the United Nations Picture News Office.
