The article presents an analysis on the compromise process and the affect structure of groups. It has been identified that there are members who have some choice as to whom to associate with in a given activity, yet some persons are chosen more frequently than others. With this, some determinants of choice have been investigated by comparing persons frequently chosen with those infrequently chosen. It has been found that at each attraction level mutuality increased with increasing acquaintance. The author suggests that these findings are consistent with the principle that systems tend toward a balanced state. The common focus of orientation in this case is the self and further that persons usually evaluate themselves positively must be observed.
