The article reports that the resumption of nuclear weapon testing in the atmosphere by the Soviet Union in 1961 and the U.S. in 1962, has heightened both anxiety on the hazard from radioactive weapon debris or fallout and consideration of countermeasures in reducing internal exposure through reducing radionuclides uptake. The author reviewed the question on the called-for countermeasures and considered the present levels of exposure to radionuclides. He stated that the key factors in specifying the contribution of nuclear weapon explosions to the types of fallouts are the altitude and the energy yield of the explosion. Moreover, he discussed the three types of fallouts including local, tropospheric, and stratospheric fallout and the short and long-lived radionuclides.
