The order-disorder of ferric iron and aluminum in CaMgSi2O6 95mol%-CaFeALSiO6 5mol% clinopyroxene solid solution crystallized at atmospheric pressure and high pressure have been determined by Mossbauer spectroscopy. Ordering of ferric iron and aluminum between octahedral site and tetrahedral site in clinopyroxene strcture proceeds with increasing pressure. The order-disorder of ferric iron and aluminum in pyroxenes may provide a potential means of determining the temperature and pressure of formation of these minerals.

A new micro method for the colorimetric determination of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) was studied and the standard procedure for the amounts of 0∼50μg. of the steroid was established. The principle of this method is based on the observation that DHEA in acetone is oxidized to androst-4-en-3, 6, 17-trione by the Kiliani's reagent and its p-nitrophenylhydrazone produced a stable color in an alkaline solution of dimethyl-formamide showing an absorption maximum at 590 mμ. By means of the combination of the solvolysis with sulfuric acid in ethyl acetate, the urinary DHEA may quite specifically be determined in the presence of other steroids.

The stability field of anorthite was studied from 950 to 1640 degrees C and 6 to 37 kb. The following is known: (a) 3 An grossularite + 2 kyanite + quartz, and (b) 3 An 3 Tschermak molecules + 3 quartz grossularite + 2 kyanite + quartz. The equilibrium boundary of (b) occurs at higher temperatures than (a). The boundary of the An breakdown to grossularite + 2 kyanite + quartz lies at a lower pressure, but rather close to that of albite. An melts incongruously at pressures above 9 kb to corundum + liquid.

純水中における塩化シクロプロピルカルビニル,塩化シクロブチル,塩化シクロペンチルおよび塩化ペンジルの加水分解に対する圧力効果を500ないし750kg/cm2まで測定した。加水分解の活性化体積はそれぞれ-12,-10,-15,-8ml/molである。これらの加水分解で溶媒和項が構造項よりも重要であることを確認した。塩化シクロプロピルカルビニル加水分解の遷移状態は塩化シクロブチルの遷移状態と同一であることが推定され,遷移状態における正電荷は分散されていると考えられる。これらは非古典的なカルボニウムイオンを経るという従来の考えを支持するものである。

Todorokite and birnessite from the Todoroki mine, Hokkaido, Japan were studied by electron micrographs, X-ray and differential thermal analysis. Electron micrographs of todorokite show the crystals to be thin plates flattened on {001}. Many of the plates are broken into narrow laths or blades which are elongated parallel to the b axis. It appears as though the crystals have two perfect cleavages parallel to {001} and {100}. D. T. A. curve of todorokite is characterized by a endothermic peaks at 104°C, 280°C, 480°C, 508°C, 545°C and 680-880°C. D. T. A. curve of birnessite is characterized by a endothermic peaks at 120°C, 260°C, 540°C and 680°C. Electron micrographs of birnessite show the crystals thin plates and needle shape. X-ray powder pattern data correspond to thore which were obtained by other writers.

High pressure experiments have been made on the stability of richterite 50 -tremolite 50 solid solution by the piston-cylinder type high pressure apparatus in the pressure range from 15 to 40 kb, at temperatures from 700 to 1150°C. This amphibole is stable up to 40 kb at 700°C, and the breakdown pressure gradually decreases with increasing temperatures. It is suggested that this amphibole, on the basis of high pressure experiments, may occur in the upper mantle.
