1. A study was made, using three independent methods, of the mean normal contact stresses set up in rolling. The results of measurements are evaluated. 2. The variation of the mean normal contact stress is examined as a function of the shape of the region of deformation and the coefficient of densification. It is shown that, with increase in the coefficient of densification and the ratiolr/hm, the mean normal contact stress grows.
