Symptoms of swelling of the right cheek and exophthalmos of the right eye were complained of in an infant, aged 1 year and 6 months. With a diagnosis of maxillary sinusitis the infant was operated upon. Microscopic examination of the removed tissue was reported as undiffentiated cell cancer. The patient was treated with radiation therapy, but died about 6 months after the operation. Adenocarcinoma is a malignant tumor which grows from any mucosa in which the epithelium is cylindric and from glands and ducts having cylindric cells in their lining. It might truly be called cylindric cell cancer. It is the malignant counterpart of benign adenoma. Adenocarcinoma is not common in the nasal cavity and the accessory sinuses. New1found only 6 adenocarcinomas in a series of 91 primary tumors of the antrum. Fabricant2reported only 1 case of adenocarcinoma in 23 cases of nasal tumor. Nash3noted none in a smaller series, but Hill4found 2 adenocarcinomas among 8 malignant tumors, both in the antrum. Ringertz5reported 10 cases of intranasal adenocarcinoma in a large series of cases of malignant tumors of this region from Radiumhemmet and Sabbatsberg's Hospital, Stockholm. Even though Hurthle cell carcinoma is a distinct histologic entity, the clinical course of these patients is similar to that of patients with follicular carcinoma of the thyroid and they should be so treated. This review covers a study of thirty-five previously untreated patients with Hurthle cell cancer of the thyroid.

The ideal objective of any surgical program is cure. This communication will not concern itself with the circumstances in which nephrectomy may be palliative in patients with renal cell cancer. That ablative surgery may have value in the palliation of some symptoms, such as pain and fever, and in the cure of others, such as hematuria, is known. Only problems relating to surgical efforts to remove all local cancer in anticipation of cure will be reviewed. Any judicious decision regarding management of patients with renal cell cancer entails a knowledge of the natural history of the untreated tumor (which includes modes and rate of spread) and of the risks and the advantages of therapeutic alternatives. For example, if all renal cell cancers metastasized only by blood stream, there would be no reason for node dissection, and if there were no possibility of invasion of perirenal fat and fascia, simple nephrectomy
