SUMMARY Nine patients with discoid and subacute lupus erythematosus were treated with oral cyclophosphamide for periods varying from 3–38 months. Previous treatment with anti-malarials, systemic and topical corticosteroids had given unsatisfactory results and caused untoward side effects. Clinical improvement was excellent in 5 patients, moderate in 3 and negligible in 1. In 2 patients in whom cyclophosphamide has heen stopped there has been no recurrence after 6 and 23 months respectively. Cyclophosphamide appears to be a useful addition to the treatment of widespread cutaneous lupus erythematosus.
