The article discusses the roles of great artists as art teachers. It states that a great majority of artists were good art instructors while all of the great teachers are artists of a different kind than Michelangelo and El Greco, more conscious and articulate and more like Lorenzo Ghiberti and Thomas Eakins. Students can also reportedly influence their masters with the most brilliant and highly influential like Emile Bernard, Paul Cezanne, Paul Gauguin and Vincent Van Gogh.
