4. Vocational-Technical Component of the Preservice Curriculum for Community College Administrators.

Abstract

A survey was conducted to assess the opinions of chairmen of educational administration departments from selected 4-year public and private institutions of higher education as to the status of the vocational-technical related component of their preservice curriculum for community college administrators. In an effort to develop an empirical base for the future development of a component of the preservice curriculum, this survey involving some 45 department chairmen and utilizing questionnaires was conducted. Of those sampled, a total of 37 usable questionnaires were returned. An analysis of the findings revealed that: (1) Departments of educational administrations having such programs vary in size, program structure, and the number of students served, (2) All of the departments include some vocational-technical related task competencies in their preservice curriculum, however, (3) Although many departments offer special courses, general educational administration courses still form the basic framework, and (4) In regard to the 25 tasks identified, there seems to be a disagreement between the findings of this study and literature written on the subject. Persons surveyed were split on the issue of its importance while the literature cites it as a priority. (Author/SN)

Abstract

An experimental test program has been conducted to measure the dynamic stability derivatives of a modified 089B shuttle orbiter. Subsonic and transonic forced oscillation tests were conducted in the Langley 8 foot TPT tunnel over a Mach number range from 0.3 to 1.2 for angles of attack up to 22 deg. The data were measured at the model resonant frequency with pitch and yaw amplitudes of 1 deg and a roll amplitude of 2.5 deg.

Abstract

An investigation of several configuration modifications to improve the subsonic stability and performance of a blended delta wing-body space shuttle-orbiter concept has been conducted in the Langley low-turbulence pressure tunnel. These modifications included variations in vertical-tail location and orientation, wing planform shape, and afterbody shape. The model was tested at a Reynolds number, based on body length, of 17 x one million, at a Mack number of 0.25, and at angles of attack from about -4 deg to 22 deg.

Abstract

Numerous wind tunnel tests conducted on the evolving delta-wing orbiters have generated a fairly large aerodynamic data base over the entire entry operation range of these vehicles. A limited assessment is made of some of the aerodynamics of the current HO type orbiters, and several specific problem areas selected from the broad data base are discussed. These include, from a subsonic viewpoint, discussions of trim drag effect; effects of the installation of main rocket engine nozzles, OMS and RCS packages, Reynolds number effects, lateral-directional stability characteristics, and landing characteristics.
