By varying the Ga concentrations x of EuTm2Fe5−xGaxO12 from x = 0 to about 0.8, thin magnetic films supporting stable bubbles with diameters from 0.5 to about 8μm, respectively, are deposited epitaxially onto gadolinium gallium garnet substrates oriented (111). For low values of x, the Ga segregation coefficient is about 2 and it decreases slightly as x increases. Thus, films contain roughly twice as much Ga as the LPE fluxed melts in which they grow. Both the characteristic length and magnetic bubble stability factor (Q) increase rapidly with x and, to a lesser degree, so does the uniaxial anisotropy field HA while both 4πM and the uniaxial anisotropy Ku decrease.

Summary The Authors show the first results of a cytogenetical and cytochemical study on young and old subjects. Cytogenetic data confirm previous observations about the presence of aneuploidy in the metaphases of the old subjects of both sexes to the respect of the youngs. Cytochemical observations concerns cytophotométrie determination of the nuclear contents of the lymphocytes after exposure to : a) standard chloridric hydrolysis in order to point out the differences to the Feulgen reaction in the lymphocytary nucleus of young and old subjects ; b) chloridric hydrolysis to different times, in order to stress, by mean of the analysis of the Feulgen kinetic curves, the variation of the resistence to the hydrolysis of the nuclear DNA in relation to the age. In the old subjects of both sexes, after the standard hydrolysis a statistically significative growth of the Feulgen réponse is shown, while the Feulgen kinetic curves suggest a significative diminution of the acid-labile fraction of the nuclear DNA and increase of the acid-resistant one. Cytophotomteric evaluations of the metile-green nuclear réponse in lymphocytes of old subjects confirm this last finding. The increase of the acid-resistant Feulgen-DNA in old subjects seems not to be directly correlated to the observed aneuploidy., Résumé Les Auteurs exposent les résultats d'une première série d'observations cytogénétiques et cytochimiques obtenus sur les lymphocytes de sujets jeunes et âgés. Les données cytogénétiques confirment les observations relevées dans la littérature sur l'instauration d'une condition d'aneuploïdie dans les plaques métaphasiques des sujets âgés des deux sexes par rapport aux jeunes. Les observations cytochimiques se réfèrent à la détermination cytophotométrique du contenu du DNA nucléaire des lymphocytes, relevé par la réaction de Feulgen, après : a) hydrolyse chloridrique standard afin de mettre en évidence une altération générique dans la réponse à cette réaction par rapport à l'âge ; b) hydrolyse chloridrique à temps croissants afin de mettre en évidence, par une analyse de la cinétique de la réaction de Feulgen, les variations des fractions acide-labile et acide-résistante du DNA nucléaire, en se référant aux phénomènes d'aneuploïdie observés sur les sujets âgés. Après hydrolyse acide on a pu rencontrer un accroissement statistiquement significatif de la réponse de Feulgen sur les lymphocytes des sujets âgés des deux sexes, alors que la cinétique de la réaction de Feulgen suggère une diminution significative de la fraction de DNA acide-labile et une croissance de celle acide-résistante. Cette dernière donnée est confirmée par la cytophotométrie des lymphocytes après vert de méthyle, et elle ne semble pas être directement en corrélation, dans l'état actuel de nos recherches, avec les phénomènes d'aneuploïdie observés., De Stefano G. Viene descritta un’apparecchiatura, interamente elettronica, realizzata per lo studio del comportamento di elettrodi sottoposti ad impulsi (periodici e non) di correute. L’andamento della tensione sull’elettrodo di prelievo viene osservato sullo schermo di un tubo a raggi catodici, e registrato fotograficamente; un opportuno circuito consente di ritardare o anticipare l’inizio dell’osservazione oscillografica rispetto all’istante di chiusura o apertura del circuito di corrente della cella etettrolitica. L’apparecchiatura offre soddisfacenti prestazioni in un ampio campo di variabilita delle condizioni di esperienza; particolare cura e stata dedicata ad assicurare che le determinazioni volute avvengano in condizioni di volta in volta ben definite.

The (EuTm)3(FeGa)5O12 garnet system is particularly useful in studies of small magnetic bubbles. Physical properties change relatively slowly with the Eu/Tm ratio, and the film composition changes little with isothermal LPE growth conditions. Uniform Eu0.85Tm2.15Fe4.45 Ga0.55O12 films with 1 μm diameter bubbles were grown on 38mm diameter substrates of GGG oriented (111). Using dilute, large volume (100 cc) melts undercooled 25°C and substrates rotated slowly (36 rpm) in a horizontal plane, the collapse field (H0) and thickness are uniform to within 2 percent laterally across films. The temperature stability of H0 and of domain periodicity are good up to 100°C presumably because the films have a high Curie temperature (∠215°C).
