Abstract

Esterase D phenotypes were determined in a population sample of Northern Germany. The gene frequencies were calculated with 0.8824 for Es D1 and 0.1176 for Es D2. Studies in twins, mother/child combinations and families confirmed an autosomal co-dominant inheritance.

Abstract

Frequencies and phenotype distribution of red cell adenosine deaminase (ADA), adenylate kinase (AK), phosphoglucomutase (PGM1), acid phosphatase (AP) and serum a1-antitrypsin (a1-at or Pi) were examined in a German group of the area of Hamburg. The observed distribution of phenotypes in all five systems is consistent with that expected by the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. Within the mother/child combinations we found no incompatible combination. The results of additional family investigations for a1-antitrypsin are consistent with Mendelian expectation.

30. Genetic polymorphism of C′3 (β1C-globulin) component of complement in a German and a Spanish population

Abstract

The polymorphism of the major component of human complement (C'3 or $$\beta _{1^C }$$ -globulin) at that time is interpreted formally by the genetic model “5 codominant alleles at one autosomal locus”. Examination of this hypothesis has been performed examinating a sample of 482 unrelated persons in the two populations, 71 families with 127 children and 115 mother/child combinations in a German population. It could be stated that 4 alleles or more are involved in this polymorphism.

With the help of a simplified and quick method, cellulose acetate electrophoresis, the phenotypes of esterase D were determined in an Assamese population. The gene frequencies of Es D(1) were 0.7263 and 0.2737 for Es D(2).

Abstract

The activity of total aldolase and of the isoenzymes aldolase A and aldolase B was determined in a sample of more than 100 healthy unrelated persons as well as in pairs of 20 monozygotic and 20 dizygotic twins. In monozygotic twin pairs the specific activity is almost identical, whereas significant differences were observed in dizygotic twins. Analogous results with respect to these twin studies were obtained by estimating the phenotypes of the phosphoglucomutase locus 3, arantitrypsin, alanine transaminase, the 3rd component of complement and transferrin.
