The article presents a study that explores the interrelatedness of identification, empathy, self dissatisfaction and adjustment among individuals in the U.S. It employed subjects who are young enough to reflect active parent-child interactions but mature to use self-report instruments including the Interpersonal Check List (ICL) and the Bell Adjustment Inventory. It includes the participation of the parents of the subjects where the two instruments were administered in two different situations. In the later part of the study, the parent with the same sex as his child took the ICL and filled it twice, first for himself and then to predict the self-description of his child where most of the variables used in the study revealed substantial results for males.
