Abstract

The article presents information regarding an intestinal transplant by surgeons at Manhattan's Memorial Hospital. Need for transplant arose when surgeons found that the growth of cancer had spread to digestive tract of patient. As a result, they had to remove about 16 ft. of intestines. To supply all the nutrients to the patient's body, surgeon Maurice Shils devised a fluid diet.
