To promote development of vanadiuim-base alloys, binary (V --Sn, V -Hf, V --W, V --Re, V -Tb) and ternary systems (V --Ti-Nb, V --Ti-Mo, V --Ti--Ta, V-Ti --W, V --Ti-Be, V--Ti-O, V--Ti--Si) were investigated to determine the extent of the vanadium-rich solid solution between 800 and 1500 f C, the character of the second phase in equilibriuim with the solid solution, and melt reactions. The age hardening of selected V --Ti --Be, V --Ti--O, and V --Ti--Si alloys was studied at 550, 650, and 750 f C. (auth)

Niobium-hydrogen equilibrium was studied in the temperature range 300°–1500°C between 0 and 760 mm Hg equilibrium H2 pressure by the Sieverts technique. Continuous solid solution is formed in this range, which exhibits b.b.c. structure with lattice parameter increasing with increasing hydrogen content. The formation of the solid solution is exothermic; heat of solution increases with increasing hydrogen content. Below 300°C, X-ray diffraction analysis and metallographic examination revealed the existence of a non-classical phase transformation, which is possibly martensitic or order-disorder type.
