A sample of 468 seniors from five public high schools in New Orleans were administered a questionnaire designed to elicit attitudes and experience pertaining to their occupational socialization. This research was organized in terms of a behavioral model of the social processes which lead to a particular level of knowledge about the aspired occupation. The initial determinants are the adolescent's race and socio-economic status as they influence the difference between his social status and that of his aspiration. This difference is studied as the cause of the social distance between the adolescent and his role model for the aspired occupation. (Author)
