Photographic portrait from 1963 of J. Joseph Curran, Sr. (1904-1977), who served on the Baltimore City Council representing the Third Council District from 1955 to 1959, and 1963-1976. The image shows a head and shoulders portrait of a middle-aged male wearing eyeglasses and a suit jacket and necktie. Curran was the father of former Maryland Attorney General J. Joseph Curran Jr. and Councilman Bob Curran, and he was the grandfather of District Court Judge Catherine Curran O'Malley, wife of former Governor Martin O'Malley. Curran Sr. suffered a heart attack during a 1976 shooting at a temporary Baltimore City Hall, where another Councilman, Dominic M. Leone Sr., was fatally shot.
