In rats given a single injection (500 μg) in the hind footpads of heterologous (water-soluble) renal glycoprotein and Freund's incomplete adjuvant, proliferative glomerulonephritis with immunofluorescent `mesangial pattern' was induced. Immunopathological and morphological changes of this group were very similar to those of rats which received a single injection of homologous and water-soluble renal glycoprotein. The nephritogenic renal glycoprotein does not show species specificity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
