Thermal analysis has been carried out on polypropylene films crystallized under stress and subsequently stretched to various degrees of elongation at different temperatures. During these measurements the film samples were held at constant strain. Position and shape of the fusion endotherms of films from the same polypropylene mainly depend on the preorientation and on the degree of stretching of the films. Other variables, such as stretching temperature and the use of a single- or multiple-step stretching process, appeared to be less important. The orientation of the preoriented films has been characterized by determining the degree of shrinkage after complete melting and by measuring infrared dichroism and birefringence. The influence of annealing at constant strain on the shape of thermograms has also been studied.

N-2,3-Butadienyl-N-methylbenzylamine HCl (U-1247) and N-2,3-butadienyl-N-methyl-o-chlorobenzylamine HCl (U-1379) have been synthesized and potent in vivomonoamine oxidase inhibition demonstrated. Antihypertensive activity comparable to that produced by pargyline was demonstrated in hypertensive rats with U-1247. When administered to mice, U-1247 and U-1379 produced initial stimulation of motor activity in contrast with pargyline which produced initial depression.

A method is described for measuring the mobility of majority carriers in a silicon layer bounded by a depletion region. Only standard measurements of capacitance and conductance have to be done. No other quantities, such as the concentration of the carriers, need be known.

SYMPATHETIC nerves have been shown to be the site of uptake of circulating noradrenaline. The extent of sympathetic innervation of an organ seems to determine the uptake of radioactive noradrenaline after intravenous injection if allowance is made for the volume of blood flow to the organ and its endogenous noradrenaline content1.
