Die begrenzte Brauchbarkeit der bekannten Berechnungsverfahren fur den Leistungsbedarf beim Hobeln fuhrte zu einer gewissen Unsicherheit. Neben der Veroffentlichung eigener Beobachtungsergebnisse werden Vorschlage zur zweckentsprechenden Anwendung bewahrter Bezugseinheiten fur Forschung und Praxis gemacht.

The effect of stimulation of the crossed olivocochlear bundle on the compound action potential recorded at the round window can be blocked by injection of Flaxedil into the scale tympani. The block is reversible and the stimulation effect reappears when Flaxedil is washed out. Intravenously applied Flaxedil, however, is without effect.

The isoenzyme pattern of the alkaline phosphatases was determined in the sera of 51 normal subjects, 28 patients with hepatobiliary diseases and 17 patients with bone diseases. Two quick and technically simple methods of differentiation were used for a semiquantitative determination: stereospecific sensitivity to L-phenylalanine, especially of the small intestine phosphatase, and the separation of the bone and liver/biliary tract phosphatases by a combination of heat inactivation and stereo-specific inhibition. The basic principles of these methods are described. The results, statistically evaluated, are discussed. The alkaline phosphatase activity in the serum of healthy adults stems from isoenzymes of the small intestine (about 20%), of bone and of hepatobiliary origin. In hepatobiliary diseases the proportion of bone to liver/biliary tract phosphatases changes significantly in favour of the latter. In diseases of the skeleton, however, which are accompanied by increased activity of serum alkaline phosphatase, there is a significant increase in the absolute fraction of bone phosphatase in the total activity. In addition to the demonstration of these qualitative and quantitative changes in the isoenzyme distribution patterns, limiting values were determined for a normal group; values outside these can be considered as pathognomonic for diseases of the liver and biliary tract and the skeleton respectively. Of particular importance for early diagnosis is the fact that changes in the isoenzyme distribution pattern are demonstrable not only when the total activity is increased, but at a time when the serum activity lies still within normal limits. The methods used are suitable for a rapid and reproducible semiquantitative determination of the isoenzymes of alkaline phosphatase, and for early differential diagnosis of diseases of the skeleton (especially metastatic tumours), the liver and biliary tract.

Die Verfasser versuchten durch die Hervorhebung von Neuerungen, die ihnen in der Kurze der Zeit der Messevorbereitungen zur Kenntnis kamen, zu zeigen, welche Richtung die Entwicklung der Instandsetzungsmittel der Werkzeuge nimmt. Das eigene Urteil muste dabei ebenso zurucktreten wie der verstandliche Wunsch einzelner Hersteller, an bevorzugter Stelle genannt zu werden.

1. Verschiedene Weinhefen vermochten einen grosen Teil der ursprunglich vorliegenden Apfelsaure bei der Vergarung von Traubensaft und synthetischen Substraten abzubauen bzw. zu assimilieren. Unter aeroben Bedingungen war dieser Abbau ausgepragter als unter Luftabschlus. 2. Ein Teil der metabolisierten Apfelsaure wurde in Bernsteinsaure ubergefuhrt. Ferner zeigte sich regelmasig eine geringe Milchsaurebildung. Eine Alkoholbildung aus Apfelsaure konnte nicht festgestellt werden.

The separation of slag and kish from hot metal is essential in supplying the lowest possible sulfur input to the BOF. This paper describes taphoes in hot metal torpedo cars as a simple, effective means of achieving this separation, and outlines the benefits gained from tapholes in the production of tower sulfur steel.
