The article presents updates of the world, as of July 24, 1873. Of all the spectacles offered the visitor to Springfield, Massachusetts, this week, the first to occur that was at all exciting was the foot race on Thursday morning. As for Tuesday's rowing match between players John Biglin and Ellis Ward, it came to an end almost before it had well begun. And, indeed, had both the men pulled through and crossed the score, the vast majority of people congregated in the city would have eared very little for this exhibition of professional skill. According to another update, the elasticity of the French mind is truly wonderful. The new Government of France is hardly conscious of its overwhelming force. It represents the end of the revolutionary period, and it is considered by the French nation as the preface of a constitutional monarchy. It is even now, under the name of republic, a real monarchy.
