- Abstract
The handbook provides a basic guide to the functions of a college governing body, the legal entity for a college in Britain. The governmental ano administrative context in which a college operates, the power and duties of the governing body based on British governmental guidelines, its historical role, and issues in governance are discussed. In addition, the roles and responsibilities of various segments of the academic community are outlined as they relate to: finance and expenditures, capital outlay, curriculum development, teaching staff, (pay, conditions of employment, staffing patterns), non-teaching staff, and students (admission, discipline, student unions, and financial aid). A glossary of common terms and acronyms and a brief bibliography are included. (MSE)
