The problem of computing static corrections for CDP seismic reflection data is discussed. A new approach is presented and it is related to various existing approaches. The approach consists of using crosscorrelation computations to find time shifts which appear to align the traces of each common‐depth‐point. These shifts are expressed in terms of surface corrections, one for each source and receiver position; a residual NMO correction for each common‐depth‐point; and a fixed correction for each common‐depth‐point. These simultaneous equations form an overdetermined set which can be solved for the unknown static and NMO corrections. The least‐square‐error solution to these equations has an important indeterminancy which is discussed. Methods for its resolution are proposed. Application of the technique to real data is illustrated by several examples. Validity of the corrections is demonstrated by velocity analyses before and after correction of the traces.

Piece‐wise local linearity of the subsurface reflectors and uniqueness of primary reflection travel path between particular source‐receiver pairs are two of the fundamental assumptions of multiple ground coverage reflection seismic techniques as currently employed. Some recent developments in seismic exploration which spring from the progress made in velocity determination techniques violate these fundamental assumptions with potentially serious consequences such as spurious geometries after migration and unrealistic interval velocities. In this paper we apply analytic techniques and computer simulation to linear and nonlinear subsurface models in order to obtain better definitions of the limitations of the reflection seismic method. The resulting lessons are of immediate practical value in seismic interpretation and clarify a variety of commonly occurring but puzzling situations such as phantom faults, incomplete contacts and segmented reflectors at unconformities, and apparent reversal of dip. In its basic approach this work has much in common with the generation and study of synthetic seismograms. Examination of the groundwork of the seismic method provides a firm base for extending its use.

This paper addresses the Vehicle Routing Problem with Time Windows (VRPTW) and shows that implementing algorithms for solving various instances of VRPs can significantly reduce transportation costs that occur during the delivery process. Two metaheuristic algorithms were developed for solving VRPTW: Simulated Annealing and Iterated Local Search. Both algorithms generate initial feasible solution using constructive heuristics and use operators and various strategies for an iterative improvement. The algorithms were tested on Solomon’s benchmark problems and real world vehicle routing problems with time windows. In total, 44 real world problems were optimized in the case study using described algorithms. Obtained results showed that the same distribution task can be accomplished with savings up to 40% in the total travelled distance and that manually constructed routes are very ineffective.

Multifold ground coverage by seismic techniques such as the common reflection point method provides a multiplicity of wave travel path information which allows direct determination of root‐mean‐square velocities associated with such paths. Hyperbolic searches for semblance among appropriately gathered arrays of traces form the basis upon which velocities are estimated. Measured semblances are presented as a velocity spectral display. Interpretation of this information can give velocities with meaningful accuracy for primary as well as multiple events. In addition, the velocity data can help correctly label events. This paper outlines the fundamental principles for calculating velocity spectra displays. Examples are included which demonstrate the depth and detail of geological information which may be obtained from the interpretation of such displays.

Velocity Spectra which were originally developed for the optimum stacking of seismic data have been found to give considerable information concerning lithologic and stratigraphic changes in the geologic section. In the Gulf of Mexico shale sections and sand bodies have been recognized on the Velocity Spectra display, and in the Caribbean last year a first attempt was made to utilize Velocity Spectra information for the determination and mapping of lithology. Since that time, a new program has been developed which takes dip into account when computing the interval velocity. This program has been applied to a seismic section in the North Sea which has resulted in a geologic model derived from interval velocities which were found to be quite consistent. Such a model can be of great value in geological interpretation.

The concept of semblance is introduced, along with a descriptive review of several of the more common likeness or coherence measures. Measures are considered from three points of view: the domain in which they are applied, the philosophy of their design, and the manner in which they are used.Crosscorrelation, the most familiar of the likeness criteria, is examined in detail. Differences of design philosophy are noted as expressing themselves by a change in the normalization. Semblance is shown to be related to an energy-normalized crosscorrelation and to share certain features of the summation method or stack which has been used recently as a coherence measure.Several coherence measures, including semblance, are considered in a problem environment--the determination of stacking velocities from multiple ground coverage seismic data. A noise-free synthetic example is studied in order to compare discrimination thresholds of the various methods. Semblance, when properly interpreted, proves to have the greatest power of discrimination among the candidates examined for the particular application.

Geophysical tools used in the direct detection of hydrocarbons include the study of time, velocity and the amplitude anomalies. Static and dynamic corrections are generally understood to be the corrections applied to the arrival times of reflections in the normal course of seismic data processing. However the validity of velocity analyses and the resulting processed seismic sections largely depend on the accuracy of static time or linear phase shifts computed to remove near surface time anomalies. Similarly the validity of amplitude anomalies present on the seismic section will depend on the proper removal of the near surface effects. This paper presents a technique for computation of surface consistent amplitude and phase corrections. Several examples using both marine and land data are presented to illustrate the techniques.

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare clinical screening tests (modified Mallampati score, Cormack-Lehane score, thyromental distance, and sternomental distance) with ultrasonic measurements of the upper airway in predicting difficult intubation in pregnant women whose Body Mass Index (BMI) is higher and lower than 30 kg m-2. Methods: This study was designed as a prospective observational trial, and consisted of 40 pregnant women of American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) 1-2 groups. Patients with a BMI lower than 30 kg m-2 were included in Group 1 (n=20), and patients with a BMI higher than 30 kg m-2 were included in Group 2 (n=20). In the supine position with head in mild extension, the diameter of the transverse tracheal air shadow in the subglottic area of the front neck was measured using ultrasonography. Modified Mallampati score, Cormack-Lehane score, thyromental distance and sternomental distance measurements were recorded. Results: No statistically significant difference was detected between groups regarding mean age, mean number of pregnancy, ASA scores and comorbid disease. Mean body weight (p=0.0001) and mean prepregnancy weight (p=0.0001) were significantly higher in Group 2. There was no statistically significant difference between groups regarding mean modified Mallampati score, thyromental distance, sternomental distance measurements, Cormack-Lehane score, and mean ultrasonic measurements. Conclusion: It was found that BMI higher or lower than 30 kg m-2 has no effect on ultrasonic measurements and clinical airway tests. We thought that ultrasonic measurement could not give us valuable information in obese or non-obese pregnant women.

Yüksekliği 8 em. genişliği 6.1 eni. pişmiş topraktan yapılmıştır.Kazı envanteri tarifine göre: boynu kırık, karnı hafif şişkince dışarı çıkın­ tılı, dibi düz, kiremit rengi lıamurlu, siyah verniğin izleri korunmuştur.

Objective: To investigate effect of body mass index (BMI) on survival and technique failure in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD). Methods: In this retrospective study three hundred ninety-two consecutive patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis from September 1995 to January 2013 were included. Median PD duration was 53 (range: 4-189) months. Clinical outcomes were mortality and technique failure. Technique failure was defined as transfer to hemodialysis (HD) due to peritonitis, ultrafiltration failure, inadequate dialysis, exit-site and/or tunnel infection, and mechanical problems. Deaths within 3 months after transferring to HD were accepted as PD-related mortalities. The patient and technique survival rates were estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method. Mortality risks were analyzed using the multivariate Cox regression model in which we included (in a backward-wald manner) all the significant variables from the univariate analysis. Results: There were 164 (41.8%) deaths. Forty-six (11.7%) patients underwent renal transplantation whereas 132 (33.7%) patients were transferred to HD. The multivariate Cox regression analysis found that the patient survival rates were significantly associated with age, BMI, baseline serum creatinine and albumin levels, and total Kt/Vurea. All variables as potential risk factors for the patient survival were also assessed for technique survival in univariate analysis and technique survival rates were significantly associated only with BMI (p: 0.015). Conclusion: BMI was associated with unfavorable patient survival in PD patients.

The hoard which is thc subject of this article was found in a vasc with a broken neck in thc season of 1973 at the excavations of Tepebağları in Niğde province. As can be seen in the illustrations, this vase (excavation inventory number T.b.38), which kept the hoard undisturbed for 2000 years, is apparently from the Hellenistic pcriod and is contcınporary with the coins. According to tbe description in the excavation inventory book, its neck is broken; its body is slightly squat, and its base is flat. It is nıade of reddish clay and stili shows traces of black slip. (Plato I).WIıen the coins were brought to us for study by Prof. Nimet Ozgiic2 3 thcir inscriptions and figurcs were covered with a thick layer of oxidation.Aftcr they werc cleaned at the Conservation Laboratory of the Ankara Ar- chaeological Museum, we were able to idcntify the figures, inscriptions and monogramsS (plato I). Thus, one more hoard of the Cappadocian kings4 has joined the vvorld of numismatics.

MAbs to Newcastle diseasevirus (NDVJ have proved the considerable variation among differentisola tes. Many laboratories have prepared mAbs to NDVs and shownconserved and variant epitopes on some isolates.MAbs that is spesific for all or vast majority of NDV strains andshow HI actiVities are now being used in Weybridge. international referanslaboratory for Newcaslle Disease (ND), for routine diagnosis.Use of these mAb's enables distinction between NDV, variant NDV.Lasota and PMV-3 Viruses.MAbs also served to group NDVs with regard to their antigenicproperties. The most successful approaches on this subject were studiesof Russell and Alexander. They grouped NDV strains on the hasisof their reaction with 9 mAbs to NDV Ulster 2C.
