A state transition method is used to analyze the performance characteristics of A.C.motors fed by thyristor inverters. Since the inverter performs a series of discontinuous switching operations, the behaviour of the motor is a succession of response to these transients. First, in this paper, the mathematical model of inverterfed A.C.motors is discussed on the basis of state space theory. Secondly, some practical applications of this theory are described. Induction motors fed by thyristor inverters and thyristor commutatorless motors are analyzed by this method. Furthermore, methods to improve control characteristics of the machines mentioned above are also discussed.
