Cation flux and the extracellular and erythrocyte concentrations of sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, chloride, and acid soluble phosphorus were measured in fresh blood collected in various anticoagulant solutions, ACD blood stored at 4 C, and in frozen-deglycerolized blood stored at -80 to -120 C. Considerable variations in concentrations of extracellular and erythrocyte electrolytes were encountered due to certain characteristics of the anticoagulants employed and to the effects of storage, temperature, pH, and extracellular electrolyte concentration on erythrocyte electrolyte concentration. In contrast to ACD blood stored at 4 C, frozen-deglycerolized blood 1 day to 32 months old had slightly elevated erythrocyte concentrations of sodium and chloride and normal erythrocyte concentrations of potassium and phosphorus. Both ACD and frozen-deglycerolized blood had normal sodium and potassium fluxes. These data show that prolonged freezing and glycerolization of erythrocytes do not significantly impair the active transport processes responsible for maintenance of cellular electrolyte concentration.

Es wird berichtet, welches die günstigsten Entwicklungsbedingungen der auf Glas und Papier vergossenen AgN3-Emulsionen sind, und anschließend wird ein Empfindlichkeitsvergleich mit AgCl bei Beobachtung der Korngrößen unter dem Elektronenmikroskop durchgeführt. Pneumonia is a self-limited disease and runs its course uninfluenced in any way by medicine. It can neither be aborted nor cut short by any known means at our command. Even under the most unfavorable circumstances it will terminate abruptly and naturally without a dose of medicine having been administered. So also under the favoring circumstances of good nursing and careful diet the experience of many physicians in different lands has shown that pneumonia runs its course in a definite time, aborting sometimes spontaneously on the third or fifth day, or continuing until the tenth or twelfth. The present war with its rapid means of transportation has focused our attention on diseases of far distant lands, some of which have never occurred in this country. The typhus fever group is of particular interest, and one should be ever on the alert for its appearance. Megaw's1 classification is based on the insect vector and is divided into the epidemic and nonepidemic forms. The epidemic form is true typhus, the louse being the insect vector. Under the nonepidemic form are classified flea typhus or Brill's disease; tick typhus, which includes Rocky Mountain spotted fever; Montana tick fever and others, and mite typhus, sometimes called Japanese river fever or tropical typhus. In 1935 a new fever entity was first noted among the meat workers in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. To the Editor:—I appreciate your sending me the criticism of my paper on Q fever. With regard to the omission of the typhoid test being positive 1: 80, it is truly an omission that I was entirely unaware of. Fortunately I had saved all my data and many copies of the paper as it was written. The paper was rewritten and corrected many times in order to get it in correct form and that test was in the first typewritten copy, but evidently my secretary in recopying it several more times omitted it accidentally along with B paratyphoid A negative. In fact the entire line was omitted and I did not realize it until now. I was careful to be as exact as possible and to give credit where credit was due.
