This paper is based on Landau's book "Foundations of Analysis" which constitutes a development of the number system founded on the Peano axioms for natural numbers. In order to show mastery of the subject matter this paper gives a somewhat different organization of material and modified or more detailed proofs of theorems. In situations where proofs become rather routine re pet it ions of previously noted techniques the proofs are omitted. The following symbols and notation are used. Natural numbers are denoted by lower case letters such as a,b,c, ... x,y,z. Sets are denoted by upper case letters such as M, N, ... X, Y, Z. If a is an element of M, this will be written atM, The denial of this is written at M. The symbol 3 /x is read "There exists an unique x". If x and y are names for the same number we write x=y. It is assumed that the relation= is an equivalence relation; i.e., (1) x=x, (2) if x=y, then y=x, (3) u x=y and y=z, then x=z. Throughout this paper there will be no special attempt to distinguish between the name of a number and the number itself. For example, the phrase" if xis a number" will be used in place of "if x is the name of a number."

The effects of the child's chronological age, his sex, and a second concept of color were studied as they effected the counting skills and number recognition abilities in preschool children. The research was conducted at the Utah State University Child Development Laboratories with the subjects being three and four-year-old children enrolled at that time. Each child was given counting and number recognition tasks involving cubes in sets of one color and also in sets which involved two colors. It was found that as the age of the child increased, his ability to correctly count and label sets of cubes also increased. An interest ing trend was found when the sex and the age of the child were considered together. Girls and boys responded differently t o the counting and number recognition tasks. At an earlier age girls showed a greater language facility with the numbers; on the other hand, boys showed an earlier development in meaning of numbers. The smaller numbers involved were easier for the children to identify and seemed to hold much more meaning for them . The introduction of the color variable influenced the ability of the child to correctly label the number of cubes; however, many of the children did not mention the presence of cubes of two colors.

This study was undertaken to determine the number, type, and requirements of entry-level office positions in Ogden, Utah, banks. Questionnaires were taken to the participating banks in the Ogden, Utah, banking community. The responding banks indicated that they would consider recent high school graduates to all of the positions studied; however, a majority of the banks preferred to hire females rather than males to to the office positions studied. All of the responding banks required some type of requirement for each of the office entry-level positions, and majority of the banks required a pre-employment test of the applicants. This information was put into table form using numbers and percentages as the means of reporting the data.

Report concerning the library at Utah Agricultural College.

Table No. 1 shows the number of licensed stallions and jacks of each breed in each county of the State. It will be seen that 439 licenses have been issued. Of these 92 are grades, which means that 79 per cent of all the licensed animals of the State are purebred. Cache County leads with 59 licensed animals, including 8 grades. Sevier County stands second with 51, including 8 grade animals. Sanpete County has 43 licensed animals, including 10 grades. Utah County has 44, two of which are grades. The number of licensed animals vary in the other counties from 35 down to one.

Artificial insemination of dairy cattle is one of the recent enterprises of dairymen in this area. It is an enterprise which has expanded rapidly and will likely continue to expand during the next few years. In this area the technician or inseminator collects from $6.00 to $10.00 at the time of first service. This entitles the dairyman to two repeat inseminations for that cow, if necessary, to get the cow pregnant. Of this amount the technician receives $2.75. A bonus payment is made so that technicians inseminating fewer than 500 cows receive a total payment of $3.60. The bonus payment per cow decreases gradually until at 1500 or more cows, no bonus is paid. Payment to the technician is intended to include the value of his time and the mileage necessary to either impregnate the cow or inseminate her three times. Mileage per first service may be affected by size and shape of the area in which a technician operates. The pattern of cow distribution where cows are located in and around the communities may affect mileage. This mileage may be different than in an area with a block pattern of roads with cows located on the farms in all parts of the area. In many of the technician units a small number of first service may be different than in those units where a large number of cows are inseminated. This study was undertaken to determine the mileage traveled to impregnate a cow as affected by the number of first services in a year. The relation of mileage to shape of are serviced by a technician and the number of first services within a year were also studied.
