The article reports on genetic engineering. The author noted that genetic engineering is the changes targeted upon the sperm and ova of suspected carrier partners with the aim of preventing the transmission of life suffering from serious genetic defect. Since the aim of genetic engineering is the elimination of defect, this procedure would have to be compared with alternatives in the practice of preventive medicine, and with the increasing knowledge in responsible parenthood and responsible non-parenthood. It is noted that germinal engineering, if gauged by the principles of sound ethics, or by the canons of medical ethics, is immoral because the child suffers no defect which could justify anyone to give judgment on his behalf, or justify the physician in making such medical adjustment.
