This article presents the reader response to a computer-run case exercise, "The Misfired Missive," which appeared in the September-October 1970 issue of the "Harvard Business Review." The scope of the case and the necessarily restricted design of the exercise only elicited impressions of readers' performance. The results measure readers' skills in terms of how well they understood the problems and organized their answers. The overall impression gained is that the evidence of managerial competence derived from the responses to this case exercise does not appear to vary greatly according to the range of categories.
