This article presents information on the development of a supersonic transport plane. The said plane is supposed to cruise around at Mach 3, i.e., at three times the speed of sound. However, aluminium alloys, from which the aircraft is supposed to be built will not be able to tolerate the high temperatures that would develop at such high speeds. Therefore, it was suggested to build a supersonic aircraft with a speed of Mach 2. This would help to sort out a host of troublesome technical problems. However, it is felt that the financial risks involved in the development of any supersonic transport, be it Mach 3 or Mach 2, are so large that no single aircraft company would be able to bear the costs single-handedly.
