Lighting systems have turnaround from the incandescent, vaporized lamps to the Light Emitting Diodes (LED's).LED when fed from the AC source is to be operated within the specified regulations for street lighting and for household application.LED driver is to be compact in size with a longer lifetime, But trade-off exists in the design of the driver without electrolytic capacitor and the output ripple. This paper proposed a Non-inverting buck-boost (NIBB) AC-DC topology with an integrated bi-directional converter for LED applications. It has several advantages compared with different active converter topologies explained in detail such as improved power factor (PF), Lesser THD, and the increased operating span of the driver due to non electrolytic capacitor. Front end power factor correction (PFC) circuit is designed to operate in discontinuous mode (DCM) to obtain unity power factor (UPF). Simulation studies of the circuit are implemented in PSIM software. A hardware prototype is developed and the results are verified. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
