The Marquis of Benicarlo's House is a prime example of 18th-century Baroque civil architecture in the Valencian region. Inside, it preserves ceramic panels from this period of great historical and heritage value. However, prior to its designation as a Cultural Heritage Site, the building lost some of its most architecturally significant elements, such as the flooring in one of the main rooms, which was decorated with rich iconography. Fortunately, the original tiles from this flooring have been located in the collections of the National Museum of Ceramics. This study presents the recovery and graphic restitution of the flooring based on the pieces found in the museum's collections. This work allows us to understand the original appearance of the flooring before its dismantling and may enable its in situ restoration through digital ceramic printing techniques, thus returning one of its most unique architectural elements to the building. It also details the process of digitally restoring the flooring to its original location using advanced digitization techniques. This enables the visualization of the hall in its authentic state using virtual reality methods, thereby facilitating its appreciation and dissemination as a heritage architectural space. The design of school building typologies, along with the use of advanced glazing systems such as suspended particle devices (SPD), is crucial for determining visual comfort for students. Recent research has focused on integrating SPD in architectural elements such as skylights, clerestories, and windows. In hot desert climates, minimizing window areas, employing shading mechanisms, and utilizing daylighting features such as courtyards and atriums are practical. This study explores the optimization of various architectural components in classroom designs, including Window Wall Ratios (WWR), Skylight Ratios (SR), floor levels, cardinal orientation, and SPD switching states. Using a detailed and comprehensive radiance simulation via Rhino-Grasshopper and Colibri 2.0, we conducted a thorough analysis and optimization of the SPD glazing system across different states on both annual and hourly bases. The results indicate that optimizing SPD transmittance states between 30–40%, maintaining WWRs from 20–40%, and incorporating a large skylight ratio significantly enhances the recommended work plane illuminance (WPI) and the uniformity index (Ui) of the tested typologies. This optimization improves glare control across various building typologies and provides a roadmap for architects aiming to design learning spaces that prioritize visual comfort and overall student well-being. Designing the floodlighting of objects in the context of improving the night image of the city is a very complex task, requiring not only a time commitment but also precise analysis and innovative solutions. In particular, designers must consider the principles of aesthetics and adapt the lighting to the architectural style and details of the facilities while ensuring energy efficiency and minimising the impact on the natural environment. For single objects, the task is relatively simple. The problem arises when the task is to develop a lighting concept for a large ensemble. Computer applications strictly dedicated to lighting analysis cannot capture a 3D model rich in architectural detail. The article presents a case study that focuses on a comprehensive approach to designing the floodlighting of a complex of architectural objects. The steps for designing the floodlighting of objects are presented. Based on a computer simulation, a visual lighting concept and a detailed analysis of the luminance distribution and floodlighting efficiency were presented. The obtained average luminance levels are consistent with recommendations and standards, and the project is characterised by a high lighting efficiency of 56%. This approach enables an understanding of how light affects architectural structures and the surroundings, which is crucial to achieving harmony between the technical side of the project and its aesthetics. The project presented in the article is an inspiring example of how a comprehensive approach to illumination can contribute to creating an attractive night landscape of the city, taking into account the aspects of sustainable development. This paper presents a novel segmentation algorithm specially developed for applications in 3D point clouds with high variability and noise, particularly suitable for heritage building 3D data. The method can be categorized within the segmentation procedures based on edge detection. In addition, it uses a graph-based topological structure generated from the supervoxelization of the 3D point clouds, which is used to make the closure of the edge points and to define the different segments. The algorithm provides a valuable tool for generating results that can be used in subsequent classification tasks and broader computer applications dealing with 3D point clouds. One of the characteristics of this segmentation method is that it is unsupervised, which makes it particularly advantageous for heritage applications where labelled data is scarce. It is also easily adaptable to different edge point detection and supervoxelization algorithms. Finally, the results show that the 3D data can be segmented into different architectural elements, which is important for further classification or recognition. Extensive testing on real data from historic buildings demonstrated the effectiveness of the method. Oblique photography is a regional digital surface model generation technique that can be widely used for building 3D model construction. However, due to the lack of geometric and semantic information about the building, these models make it difficult to differentiate more detailed components in the building, such as roofs and balconies. This paper proposes a deep learning-based method (U-NET) for constructing 3D models of low-rise buildings that address the issues. The method ensures complete geometric and semantic information and conforms to the LOD2 level. First, digital orthophotos are used to perform building extraction based on U-NET, and then a contour optimization method based on the main direction of the building and the center of gravity of the contour is used to obtain the regular building contour. Second, the pure building point cloud model representing a single building is extracted from the whole point cloud scene based on the acquired building contour. Finally, the multi-decision RANSAC algorithm is used to segment the building detail point cloud and construct a triangular mesh of building components, followed by a triangular mesh fusion and splicing method to achieve monolithic building components. The paper presents experimental evidence that the building contour extraction algorithm can achieve a 90.3% success rate and that the resulting single building 3D model contains LOD2 building components, which contain detailed geometric and semantic information. The field of self-adaptive software is becoming increasingly crucial because software has to adapt its behavior at runtime to keep up with dynamic and constantly evolving environments. The ability of software to modify and adjust itself is known as adaptability, which has been acknowledged as an important quality attribute. As software architecture development represents the initial stage of the design process, architectural design has emerged as a critical development activity. The degree to which the architecture can adapt to changes will be the key factor in determining the adaptability of the software ultimately released to users. Existing metrics for software architectural adaptability typically view adaptability as a positive attribute, meaning that any possibility of change in architectural elements is perceived as an improvement in adaptability. However, the application of adaptability that leads to increased costs or complexity can only be seen as a negative attribute. In other words, the side effects brought about solely for the purpose of achieving adaptability are greatly overlooked; that is, the impacts caused by adaptability exhibit both symmetry and asymmetry for software architectural adaptability. On the other hand, the existing measures of adaptability only define it from the perspective of whether a module will change, without considering changes beyond the topological structure under multiple strategies. In this paper, we propose a comprehensive assessment approach to measure software architecture adaptability. Multiple factors are considered, including the number and types of strategies employed, the cost of completing the adaptation, the extent of changes made to the architectural elements, and the overall impact of the adaptation on the architecture. An extended UML (e-UML) component diagram is presented to model software architectural changes under various types of strategies. Finally, an experiment on the znn.com software is conducted to validate the practical feasibility of our proposed method. In hot and arid environments, courtyards are essential architectural elements that significantly contribute to microclimate regulation and enhanced thermal comfort. Beyond providing protection against environmental severities, these spaces elevate the standards of livability and sustainability in urban design. The traditional landscape of Mardin, Turkey, exemplifying such challenges, takes center stage in this study, where courtyards hold a prominent role in architectural composition. Facilitated by the ENVI-met software, the evaluation process herein comprehensively analyzes four representative courtyard case studies in Mardin. Key parameters, including air temperature, humidity, predicted mean vote (PMV), and wind speed, are considered to gain a nuanced understanding of their thermal dynamics. The initial evaluation of existing conditions reveals varying thermal comfort levels, with higher PMV values indicating discomfort in the courtyards, underscoring the need for interventions to enhance their microclimate regulation and resilience to climate change challenges. This study aims to enhance our comprehension of the relationship between courtyards and microclimate regulation, particularly in hot–dry regions. Rammed earth buildings constitute a large part of the housing stock in rural areas. Although these houses are recognized as a cultural heritage, detailed analyses of their architectural features, geometric parameters crucial for structural stability, and soil properties used for their construction have not yet been carried out in Croatia. The aim of this study is to collect basic data on the architectural features and material properties of rammed earth walls through field research in Croatia. These data are crucial for both numerical and experimental studies to improve the understanding of the structural behavior of rammed earth houses. Data were obtained through field research and a detailed survey of 22 houses. The houses were analyzed, samples of the rammed earth walls were collected, and their properties were tested in the laboratory. This study contributes to a better understanding of regional building practices and provides data that will enable us to identify the causes of damage in future studies and to select rehabilitation measures to preserve the authentic symbols of cultural heritage. The commercialization of historic streets constitutes a pivotal aspect of urban cultural heritage, and the comprehension of their visual perception serves as a valuable asset to urban planning and cultural conservation efforts. However, current research concerning the disparities in visual perception among diverse demographics within historic streets, as well as their spatiotemporal dynamics, remains insufficient. This study aims to utilize mobile eye-tracking technology to delve into the visual perceptual characteristics of diverse individuals within commercialized historical urban areas. It seeks to analyze the spatiotemporal dynamic shifts, observing how people's visual perception and focal points of attention evolve alongside the changes in time and space within these commercialized historical districts. We examined the differences in the visual perception of historical urban areas among groups with varying degrees of architectural knowledge and professional expertise, using the example of the Wanshou Palace Historic Cultural District in Nanchang. Through meticulous observation using mobile eye-tracking technology, we elucidate the visual perception patterns of different demographic characteristics through statistical analysis and spatiotemporal modeling. The findings reveal significant discrepancies in visual attention and perception among various groups. Participants with a deeper understanding of architecture tend to fixate on the architectural details and structures within the urban district, with architectural elements garnering a significant share of 68.6% of their visual attention. Conversely, individuals with a lesser comprehension of architecture exhibit a greater interest in shops and signage elements, with architectural elements receiving a mere 59.23% of their visual focus, while commercial elements attract a significant 25.7% of their attention. Moreover, during the process of perceiving the streetscape, participants' eye movements transition from surrounding landscapes and historical edifices upon initial entry to the district, gradually shifting towards the commercial activities and distinctive architecture within the district. Building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) comprise the integration of a solar power generation system into the exterior design and architectural elements of a building to produce electricity, which allows the building itself to generate electricity. By integrating shingled technology into the photovoltaic module with optimization of the optical effect, the output performance of the module can be increased while securing an aesthetic appeal as an architectural exterior material for the building simultaneously. In this research, we studied enhancing the performance of BIPV modules through an analysis of the optical coupling effect for shingled technology using PSpice simulation. Compared to the efficiency of 0.2 cm string spacing, the optical coupling effect was increased by 33.33%, 46.98%, 67.01%, and 193.49% according to the string spacing of 0.5 cm, 1 cm, 2 cm and 4 cm, respectively. To analyze this increase, we focused on studying the increase in current due to the reflection and re-absorption of light in the back layer of the solar cell as the cause of this output enhancement. Additionally, the coupling effect in accord with different layers showed that using white EVA to reflect the incident light from the top layer resulted in 117.14% and 521.90% enhancements in maximum output power (Pm) loss % compared to the conventional and black backsheet applied PV modules, respectively. Historical transportation infrastructures (HTIs) like railways and bridges are essential to our cultural heritage. However, the preservation and enhancement of these structures pose significant challenges due to their complex nature and the need for modern upgrades. Historic building information modeling (HBIM) has emerged as a solution, facilitating the documentation, restoration, and maintenance of historic transportation assets. The purpose of the proposed work is to provide a systematic review of research findings on the application of HBIM in historic transportation infrastructure, highlighting its role in capturing intricate architectural details and supporting decision making for preservation efforts. A series of case studies in which HBIM has been instrumental in preserving historic transportation infrastructure are investigated and analyzed using a comprehensive literature review method. Furthermore, future directions in HBIM research are proposed, identifying potential applications and recommending areas for further investigation. Additionally, this paper suggests HBIM's potential to balance modernization demands with the conservation needs of historic transportation infrastructure, providing policymakers and stakeholders with insightful strategies for sustainable heritage management. Fusarium graminearum is the primary causative agent of Fusarium head blight (FHB), a devastating disease affecting cereals globally. The high-mobility group (HMG) of non-histone proteins constitutes vital architectural elements within chromatin, playing diverse roles in various biological processes in eukaryotic cells. Nonetheless, the specific functions of HMG proteins in F. graminearum have yet to be elucidated. Here, we identified 10 HMG proteins in F. graminearum and extensively characterized the biological roles of one HMGB protein, FgNhp6. We constructed the FgNhp6 deletion mutant and its complementary strains. With these strains, we confirmed the nuclear localization of FgNhp6 and discovered that the absence of FgNhp6 led to reduced radial growth accompanied by severe pigmentation defects, a significant reduction in conidial production, and a failure to produce perithecia. The ∆FgNhp6 mutant exhibited a markedly reduced pathogenicity on wheat coleoptiles and spikes, coupled with a significant increase in deoxynivalenol production. An RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) analysis indicated that FgNhp6 deletion influenced a wide array of metabolic pathways, particularly affecting several secondary metabolic pathways, such as sterol biosynthesis and aurofusarin biosynthesis. The findings of this study highlight the essential role of FgNhp6 in the regulation of the asexual and sexual reproduction, deoxynivalenol (DON) production, and pathogenicity of F. graminearum. The preservation of historical traditional architectural ensembles faces multifaceted challenges, and the need for facade renovation and updates has become increasingly prominent. In conventional architectural updating and renovation processes, assessing design schemes and the redesigning component are often time-consuming and labor-intensive. The knowledge-driven method utilizes a wide range of knowledge resources, such as historical documents, architectural drawings, and photographs, commonly used to guide and optimize the conservation, restoration, and management of architectural heritage. Recently, the emergence of artificial intelligence-generated content (AIGC) technologies has provided new solutions for creating architectural facades, introducing a new research paradigm to the renovation plans for historic districts with their variety of options and high efficiency. In this study, we propose a workflow combining Grasshopper with Stable Diffusion: starting with Grasshopper to generate concise line drawings, then using the ControlNet and low-rank adaptation (LoRA) models to produce images of traditional Minnan architectural facades, allowing designers to quickly preview and modify the facade designs during the renovation of traditional architectural clusters. Our research results demonstrate Stable Diffusion's precise understanding and execution ability concerning architectural facade elements, capable of generating regional traditional architectural facades that meet architects' requirements for style, size, and form based on existing images and prompt descriptions, revealing the immense potential for application in the renovation of traditional architectural groups and historic districts. It should be noted that the correlation between specific architectural images and proprietary term prompts still requires further addition due to the limitations of the database. Although the model generally performs well when trained on traditional Chinese ancient buildings, the accuracy and clarity of more complex decorative parts still need enhancement, necessitating further exploration of solutions for handling facade details in the future. Intending to enable a broader collaboration with the scientific community while maintaining privacy of the data stored and generated in Living Labs, this paper presents the Shareable Data Publishing and Access Service for Living Labs, implemented within the framework of the H2020 VITALISE project. Building upon previous work, significant enhancements and improvements are presented in the architecture enabling Living Labs to securely publish collected data in an internal and isolated node for external use. External researchers can access a portal to discover and download shareable data versions (anonymised or synthetic data) derived from the data stored across different Living Labs that they can use to develop, test, and debug their processing scripts locally, adhering to legal and ethical data handling practices. Subsequently, they may request remote execution of the same algorithms against the real internal data in Living Lab nodes, comparing the outcomes with those obtained using shareable data. The paper details the architecture, data flows, technical details and validation of the service with real-world usage examples, demonstrating its efficacy in promoting data-driven research in digital health while preserving privacy. The presented service can be used as an intermediary between Living Labs and external researchers for secure data exchange and to accelerate research on data analytics paradigms in digital health, ensuring compliance with data protection laws. Liturgical space represents the embodiment of Christian theology in church buildings, encompassing both physical and metaphysical aspects. This space carries holiness and sacredness through a set of architectural elements that create sacred and profane zones within the church architecture. For centuries, design elements have shaped the form of Eastern churches in Iraq. This research aimed to answer the following question: what does a participant see at first glance in the liturgical space of a church building? This paper revisits the impact of design elements on the liturgical space of Eastern churches. The research methodology involved analyzing qualitative data using visual attention software (VAS) 3M, version 2024, to examine eye-tracking data and identify what visitors first noticed when entering these church interiors in Mosul, Iraq. The results highlight the variations and dominance of specific design elements in their impact on Eastern churches. The future of architectural environments in China will serve the needs of, and thus be shaped/re-shaped by, the Chinese Y and Z generations. Although Shan-Shui designs have long been a classic style of architectural environment in China, there is a lack of comprehensive studies on how the Chinese Y and Z generations perceive Shan-Shui designs as an architectural style. Quantitatively analyzing and understanding Chinese YZ generations' perceived relationships between Shan-Shui designs and architectural environments will have many implications for both the economy and education. In this paper, we present a large-scale study by conducting a questionnaire survey of 441 human subjects representative of both the Y and Z generations. The questionnaires were carefully designed with a focus on understanding the perceptions and cognitions of Shan-Shui designs in the survey group. The survey results were analyzed using the widely adopted SPSS25 method. Our overall analyses show that the Chinese Y and Z generations have a tendency to subconsciously perceive Shan-Shui as a relatively independent form/style from architectural environments. Between the Y and Z generations, our comparative analyses show that the latter has a more positive perception with respect to different aspects of Shan-Shui designs in architectural environments. As China transitions into a deeply aging society, the elderly population's growth has driven a rapid increase in elderly care institutions and facilities during the "13th Five-Year Plan" period, rising by over 235% compared to the "12th Five-Year Plan". The ongoing normalization of COVID-19 prevention measures has underscored the urgent need to improve natural ventilation in elderly care residential facilities. This study conducted empirical surveys to assess the current state of natural ventilation in typical elderly care facilities and analyzed the architectural elements influencing it. By examining the needs and preferences of the elderly for natural ventilation, two basic living space layout types were identified through typological analysis. Suitable CFD simulation software was then employed to model key elements, and effective methods to enhance ventilation were summarized. This study found that modifying the floor plan to reduce the depth of south-facing rooms to 8.4 m, relocating external openings to the center of the rooms, adjusting the ratio of ventilation openings to room area to greater than 1/12, and adding 0.5 m high windows facing internal traffic roads can significantly improve indoor ventilation while maintaining privacy. Furthermore, placing the main activity and resting areas of the elderly in well-ventilated zones with minimal drafts can enhance both comfort and ventilation effectiveness. In contemporary architectural design, a noticeable trend emerges in the meticulous planning of common areas, with an emphasis on fostering the free movements of users within these areas. It is important to consider the architectural elements that influence user behavior in these environments. Previous studies have delved into the relationship between architecture and user activity, often through questionnaires and activity surveys conducted in arbitrary spaces. However, such data are discontinuous and only capture a portion of the space. Therefore, in this study, continuous and extensive recordings were performed in an arbitrary space using a video camera to capture the entirety of the area. Consequently, we were able to comprehend the relationship between architecture and people's activities and observe the formation of user autonomy through their decisions to rearrange furniture. Furthermore, an "Open Pose" system was used to detect people and generate a user stay distribution chart. This was achieved by converting it into a plan view using perspective projection transformation, thereby obtaining objective data automatically. The grid plays a prominent role in architecture, aiding in space organization and influencing all aspects of planning, ranging from urban design to intricate building details. This paper posits that the grid receives heightened emphasis in Brutalism, particularly in constructivist Brutalism, where materials and construction are intentionally exposed. A question arises regarding the grid's characteristics—despite its subtle appearance, the grid can sometimes be deceptive, ambiguous, and manipulative. The paper analyzes the merits and drawbacks of employing the grid in architecture, shedding light on its contributions to both structural and perceptual comprehensibility, as well as its role in increasing usefulness. To illustrate the application and perception of the grid, the paper examines two primary planning levels: urban planning and building design. The case studies focus on examples from New York City housing developments, specifically those constructed between the 1950s and the 1970s, and projects by architect I. M. The present study aims to explore rowshans as essential vernacular architectural elements in designing houses in very hot-dry climates such as Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to determine their most significant effects on air movement, ventilation, and mitigating cooling loads. A comprehensive combination of building performance simulation and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis was used to model a room with six different sizes of rectangular openings and quantify rowshans' potential as passive elements in providing occupants with comfort and reducing energy use. Analysis of the passive element revealed the thermal performance and natural ventilation in single-family homes for the Jeddah climate, created by outdoor and indoor temperature, airspeed, and pressure differences in the room model, were improved, lowering sensation temperature for inhabitants' comfort. The results highlight the beneficial effects of rowshans in lowering a house's temperature during the daytime: from November to April, at noon, indoor air temperature (IAT) could reach a 15% to 22% reduction in the north orientation. The findings also show that rowshans with 5 × 5 cm opening grids can keep the air volume flow rate within an acceptable range and keep the room in the comfort zone range for 42.3% of hours annually, equal to 3704 h. An implication of these results is the possibility of establishing housing design criteria that can enhance efficiency and thermal comfort conditions, lower the cost of operations, provide occupants with satisfaction, and reduce emissions to regenerate the environment, leading to affordability and sustainability in the Jeddah region. Doctrinal texts on architectural heritage conservation emphasize the importance of fully understanding the structural and material characteristics and utilizing information systems. Photogrammetry allows for the generation of detailed, geo-referenced Digital Elevation Models of architectural elements at a low cost, while GIS software enables the addition of layers of material characteristic data to these models, creating different property maps that can be combined through map algebra. This paper presents the results of the mechanical characterization of materials and salt-related decay forms of the polygonal apse of the 13th-century monastery of Santa María de Bonaval (Guadalajara, Spain), which is primarily affected by salt crystallization. Rock strength is estimated using on-site nondestructive testing (ultrasound pulse velocity and Leeb hardness). They are mapped and combined through map algebra to derive a single mechanical soundness index (MSI) to determine whether the decay of the walls could be dependent on the orientation. The presented results show that salt decay in the building is anisotropic, with the south-facing side of the apse displaying an overall lower MSI than the others. The relative overheating of the south-facing side of the apse enhances the effect of salt crystallization, thereby promoting phase transitions between epsomite and hexahydrite. This research addresses the crucial task of improving accuracy in the semantic segmentation of aerial imagery, essential for applications such as urban planning and environmental monitoring. This study emphasizes the significance of maintaining the Intersection over Union (IOU) score as a metric and employs data augmentation with the Patchify library, using a patch size of 256, to effectively augment the dataset, which is subsequently split into training and testing sets. The core of this investigation lies in a novel architecture that combines a U-Net framework with self-attention mechanisms and separable convolutions. The introduction of self-attention mechanisms enhances the model's understanding of image context, while separable convolutions expedite the training process, contributing to overall efficiency. The proposed model demonstrates a substantial accuracy improvement, surpassing the previous state-of-the-art Dense Plus U-Net, achieving an accuracy of 91% compared to the former's 86%. Visual representations, including original patch images, original masked patches, and predicted patch masks, showcase the model's proficiency in semantic segmentation, marking a significant advancement in aerial image analysis and underscoring the importance of innovative architectural elements for enhanced accuracy and efficiency in such tasks. Within the aviation industry, there is a growing trend towards the electrification of aircraft, with more-electric aircraft (MEA) and all-electric aircraft (AEA) being proposed. However, increasing electrification causes challenges with conventional thermal management system (TMS) and power management system (PMS) designs in aircraft. As a result, the integrated power and thermal management system (IPTMS) has been developed for energy-optimised aircraft projects. This review paper aims to review recent IPTMS progress and explore potential design solutions for civil aircraft. Firstly, the paper reviews the IPTMS in electrified propulsion aircraft (EPA), presenting the architectures and challenges of the propulsion systems, the TMS cooling strategies, and the power management optimisation. Then, several research topics in IPTMS are reviewed in detail: architecture design, power management optimisation, modelling, and analysis method development. Through the review of state-of-the-art IPTMS research, the challenges and future opportunities and requirements of IPTMS design are discussed. Based on the discussions, two potential solutions for IPTMS to address the challenges of civil EPA are proposed, including the combination of architecture design and power management optimisation and the combination of modelling and analysis methods. In the conservation of monumental heritage, the collection and utilization of information are of primary importance. The Heritage Building Information Modeling (HBIM) procedure harnesses the potential of three-dimensional models, offering significant advantages in accessing documentation, interoperability, multidimensionality of intervention design, cost evaluation, and maintenance management. Our attention here is focused on the Certosa di Pisa (Italy), a large historical complex built in the 14th century as a monastery of the Carthusian Order, currently in a state of deterioration and in need of restoration and re-functionalization. The multifaceted nature of this monumental complex, with its intricate interplay of architectural elements spanning different historical periods and featuring diverse techniques, poses a significant challenge for structural safety assessment. This case study presents an opportunity to explore an HBIM approach to streamline the diagnostic process and facilitate the intervention design phase. The goal is achieved by utilizing an accurate 3D model enriched with data from multiple sources and automating certain operations for a simplified safety assessment of masonry structures under both gravity and seismic loads. This research addresses the challenges faced in collecting and managing repair history information for architectural heritage due to its distribution among different institutions. To overcome this problem, this study proposes a building information modeling (BIM)-based repair history management framework that links non-formal repair details of architectural heritage to BIM. This framework was applied to the case study of the Great Hero Hall of Sudeoksa Temple in Yesan, South Korea. A repair history database in the form of structured data adhering to the historic building information modeling standard was utilized. The proposed framework effectively syncs the repair history database with BIM to preserve architectural heritage and streamline repair history information updates as well as management. Integrated heritage BIM is anticipated to furnish a thorough knowledge base for architectural heritage, comprising non-geometric details and formal information models, thus enhancing building maintenance planning. In artificial intelligence (AI), generative systems, most notably Midjourney, have tremendous power to generate creative images of buildings and sites of Islamic architectural heritage through text-to-image generation based on the internet. The AI-generated representations have significant potential for architects, specialists, and everyday users. However, the system has considerable limitations when generating images for some buildings and sites where the representations appear too far from their original represented structures. Evaluating Midjourney as an architectural virtual lab, this research article attempts to define the major current limitations of using Midjourney's AI system in producing images similar to the actual buildings and sites of Islamic architectural heritage. This research employs prompt engineering techniques based on historical sources as inputs to examine the accuracy of the output of the AI-generated images of selected examples of structures of the Islamic tradition. To validate the research results, it compares the Midjourney output with the original look by employing direct observation through critical analysis of human intelligence (HI) facilitated by the analysis of the latest version of 3M Visual Attention Software and an online survey. It concludes that while Midjourney can represent high-end AI-generated images inspired by the Islamic tradition, it currently falls short of presenting the actual appearance of some of its original structures. Furthermore, it categorizes these limitations into four groups: (1) limits of the prompt, (2) limits of fame, (3) limits of regionality and historical styles, and (4) limits of architectural elements and details. The significance of this research lies in providing timely evaluation factors to architectural heritage practitioners and software developers. In recent years, there has been increased interest in natural ventilation solutions as a means to achieve sustainable and energy-efficient building design. Windcatchers, ancient Middle Eastern architectural elements, have surfaced as viable passive cooling devices in modern architecture, thereby enhancing interior air quality and reducing the reliance on mechanical ventilation systems. Integrating upper wing walls (UWWs) is hypothesized to augment a windcatcher's effectiveness by optimizing wind capture, air circulation, and thermal regulation. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the influence of incorporating a two-sided windcatcher with UWWs, with a particular emphasis on the effect of the UWW angle on ventilation performance within building spaces. To achieve this aim, a series of numerical simulations were conducted to assess the synergy between the windcatcher and the wing wall configuration with varying UWW angles and under varying wind speed conditions. As the first step of the research methodology, the CFD model was validated through a comparison between the numerical results and the experimental data. The findings showed good agreement between these methods. In the next phase, windcatchers with different UWW angles spanning the range of 0° to 90° were subjected to rigorous evaluation. The results revealed that the configuration with a 30° angle exhibited the optimal performance concerning critical ventilation parameters encompassing the airflow rate, air change rate, and mean age of air. Finally, the selected configuration underwent an evaluation under diverse wind speed conditions, which affirmed that even under low-wind-speed conditions, the windcatcher provides ventilation levels that align with the standard requirements. Accurately extracting pixel-level buildings from high-resolution remote sensing images is significant for various geographical information applications. Influenced by different natural, cultural, and social development levels, buildings may vary in shape and distribution, making it difficult for the network to maintain a stable segmentation effect of buildings in different areas of the image. In addition, the complex spectra of features in remote sensing images can affect the extracted details of multi-scale buildings in different ways. To this end, this study selects parts of Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province, China, as the study area. A parallel encoded building extraction network (MARS-Net) incorporating multiple attention mechanisms is proposed. MARS-Net builds its parallel encoder through DCNN and transformer to take advantage of their extraction of local and global features. According to the different depth positions of the network, coordinate attention (CA) and convolutional block attention module (CBAM) are introduced to bridge the encoder and decoder to retain richer spatial and semantic information during the encoding process, and adding the dense atrous spatial pyramid pooling (DenseASPP) captures multi-scale contextual information during the upsampling of the layers of the decoder. In addition, a spectral information enhancement module (SIEM) is designed in this study. SIEM further enhances building segmentation by blending and enhancing multi-band building information with relationships between bands. The experimental results show that MARS-Net performs better extraction results and obtains more effective enhancement after adding SIEM. The array interferometric synthetic aperture radar (Array InSAR) system resolves shadow issues by employing two scans in opposite directions, facilitating the acquisition of a comprehensive three-dimensional representation of the observed scene. The point clouds obtained from the two scans need to be transformed into the same coordinate system using registration techniques to create a more comprehensive visual representation. However, the two-point clouds lack corresponding points and exhibit distinct geometric distortions, thereby preventing direct registration. This paper analyzes the error characteristics of array InSAR point clouds and proposes a robust registration method for array InSAR point clouds in urban scenes. It represents the 3D information of the point clouds using images, with pixel positions corresponding to the azimuth and ground range directions. Pixel intensity denotes the average height of points within the pixel. The KAZE algorithm and enhanced matching approach are used to obtain the homonymous points of two images, subsequently determining the transformation relationship between them. Experimental results with actual data demonstrate that, for architectural elements within urban scenes, the relative angular differences of registered facades are below 0.5°. As for ground elements, the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) after registration is less than 1.5 m, thus validating the superiority of the proposed method. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Internal depositional architecture and sand body distribution are the main challenges faced in the development of gravity flow channel deposits in China. Despite significant progress in the exploration and development of gravity flow deposits in recent years, our understanding of the internal architecture of composite sand bodies within gravity flow channels is still limited. Gravity flow channels represent a widely developed sedimentary type in the Shahejie Formation of the Banqiao Oilfield, Huanghua Depression. The lack of understanding of the spatial stacking relationship of gravity flow channel sand bodies hinders further development and remaining oil recovery within the oilfield. Through this study, we aimed to dissect the composite channels (5th architectural units) and single channels (4th architectural units) at the study area, using a combination of well logs and seismic data. We explored the identification criteria and spatial distribution characteristics of internal architectural elements within gravity flow channel reservoirs, based on abundant drilling data, well density grids, and 3D seismic data. By identifying and delineating single channels, we were able to summarize six identification criteria for single channels, including relative elevation differences, curve shapes, and the number of interbeds. We obtained the sand body scale and aspect ratio of single channels and established three depositional architectural patterns, i.e., isolated, lateral migration, and vertical accretion, thus revealing the differences in the spatial stacking relationships of sand bodies in different structural locations (blocks). Airborne circular synthetic aperture radar (CSAR) can realize high-resolution imaging of the scene over 360 degrees azimuth angle variation. Aiming at the problem of focusing of buildings for the airborne CSAR, this paper first analyzes the phase errors of CSAR buildings focusing in detail, and the analytic relationship between the scatterer height and azimuth focusing quality is deduced. Then, a focusing method of CSAR buildings based on the back projection algorithm is proposed. This method adopts the processing strategy of multi-layers imaging, and it is able to improve azimuth focusing quality of the buildings which have large height dimension. The proposed method is especially suitable for the high-resolution imaging and monitoring of the urban site with high-rise buildings in the airborne CSAR scenario. The correctness of the theoretical analysis and the validity of the proposed method are verified by using both simulation results and Ku-band airborne CSAR real data processing results. Building extraction refers to the automatic identification and separation of buildings from the background in remote sensing images. It plays a significant role in urban planning, land management, and disaster monitoring. Deep-learning methods have shown advantages in building extraction, but they still face challenges such as variations in building types, object occlusions, and complex backgrounds. To address these issues, SDSNet, a deep convolutional network that incorporates global multi-scale feature extraction and cross-level feature fusion, is proposed. SDSNet consists of three modules: semantic information extraction (SIE), multi-level merge (MLM), and semantic information fusion (SIF). The SIE module extracts contextual information and improves recognition of multi-scale buildings. The MLM module filters irrelevant details guided by high-level semantic information, aiding in the restoration of edge details for buildings. The SIF module combines filtered detail information with extracted semantic information for refined building extraction. A series of experiments conducted on two distinct public datasets for building extraction consistently demonstrate that SDSNet outperforms the state-of-the-art deep-learning models for building extraction tasks. On the WHU building dataset, the overall accuracy (OA) and intersection over union (IoU) achieved impressive scores of 98.86% and 90.17%, respectively. Meanwhile, on the Massachusetts dataset, SDSNet achieved OA and IoU scores of 94.05% and 71.6%, respectively. SDSNet exhibits a unique advantage in recovering fine details along building edges, enabling automated and intelligent building extraction. Within the domain of architectural urban informatization, the automated precision recognition of two-dimensional paper schematics emerges as a pivotal technical challenge. Recognition methods traditionally employed frequently encounter limitations due to the fluctuating quality of architectural drawings and the bounds of current image processing methodologies, inhibiting the realization of high accuracy. The research delineates an innovative framework that synthesizes refined semantic segmentation algorithms with image processing techniques and precise coordinate identification methods, with the objective of enhancing the accuracy and operational efficiency in the identification of architectural elements. A meticulously curated data set, featuring 13 principal categories of building and structural components, facilitated the comprehensive training and assessment of two disparate deep learning models. The empirical findings reveal that these algorithms attained mean intersection over union (MIoU) values of 96.44% and 98.01% on the evaluation data set, marking a substantial enhancement in performance relative to traditional approaches. In conjunction, the framework's integration of the Hough Transform with SQL Server technology has significantly reduced the coordinate detection error rates for linear and circular elements to below 0.1% and 0.15%, respectively. This investigation not only accomplishes the efficacious transition from analog two-dimensional paper drawings to their digital counterparts, but also assures the precise identification and localization of essential architectural components within the digital image coordinate framework. The mass production of metallic components requires high agility in the working process conditioned by the necessity of building details of different shapes and sizes. Changing the size of the components theoretically influences the thermal dissipation capability of the same, which could lead to a change in their structure and mechanical properties. This is particularly important when aluminum alloys are concerned. For this reason, two Al5356 single-track specimens were built using the same technological conditions of layer deposition by varying only their geometrical size. In all cases, the specimens were wire and arc additively manufactured (WAAM) using a process based on gas metal arc welding (GMAW) in the cold arc pulse mode (CAP). The structure of both specimens was studied and defects along their surfaces were detected in the form of micro-pores and micro-cracks. A high concentration of undissolved Mg particles was also detected, along with some standalone Si particles. Uniformity in the build-up process was achieved, which led to the formation of nearly identical structures in the specimens. Subsequently, the resultant mechanical properties were also highly comparable. We propose a technique that allows designers to develop energy-efficient buildings focused on occupants from the early design stage. The technique integrates the physiological responses of occupants and the energy performance of buildings. Among the architectural design elements, we considered the aspect ratio, ceiling height, and window-to-wall ratio as design variables and created 30 design alternatives for a single-occupancy room in a postpartum care center. These design alternatives were recreated in virtual reality, allowing 33 female participants to immerse themselves in the designed rooms. During the experiment, we collected electroencephalography (EEG) data from the participants. Furthermore, we used DesignBuilder to simulate 30 design alternatives and calculated the primary energy consumption per unit area for each alternative. By integrating the EEG data and energy performance analysis, we identified the design alternative among the 30 options that positively influenced the physiological responses of occupants while also being energy efficient. The selected alternative was designed with an aspect ratio of 1:1.6, a ceiling height of 2.3 m, and a window-to-wall ratio of 60%. This research represents a creative exploration that demonstrates how studies combining human physiological responses and architecture can evolve through integration with other subjects.
