The face serves as a crucial cue for self-identification, while the sense of agency plays a significant role in determining our influence through actions in the environment. The current study investigates how self-identification through facial recognition may influence the perception of control via motion. We propose that self-identification might engender a belief in having control over one's own face, leading to a more acute detection and greater emphasis on discrepancies between their actions and the sensory feedback in control judgments. We refer to the condition governed by the belief in having control as the exploitation mode. Conversely, when manipulating another individual's face, the belief in personal control is absent. In such cases, individuals are likely to rely on the regularity between actions and sensory input for control judgments, exhibiting behaviors that are exploratory in nature to glean such information. This condition is termed the explorative mode. The study utilized a face-motion mixing paradigm, employing a deep generative model to enable participants to interact with either their own or another person's face through facial and head movements. During the experiment, participants observed either their own face or someone else's face (self-face vs. other-face) on the screen. The motion of the face was driven either purely by their own facial and head motion or by an average of the participant's and the experimenter's motion (full control vs. partial control). The results showed that participants reported a higher sense of agency over the other-face than the self-face, while their self-identification rating was significantly higher for the self-face. More importantly, controlling someone else's face resulted in more movement diversity than controlling one's own face. These findings support our exploration–exploitation theory: When participants had a strong belief in control triggered by the self-face, they became highly sensitive to any sensorimotor prediction errors, leading to a lower sense of agency. In contrast, when the belief of control was absent, the exploration mode triggered more explorative behaviors, allowing participants to efficiently gather information to establish a sense of agency. Purpose: To evaluate the embryological and pregnancy outcomes of women who failed in their first IVF treatment if they attempted a second cycle. Methods: For evaluating the embryological outcomes, the study cohort included 1,227 women who failed to obtain a live birth after the initial IVF cycle from September 2018 to August 2021 and returned for a second attempt. To evaluate reproductive outcomes including live birth rates (LBRs), 1227 women who returned for a second attempt were compared with 13,195 women undergoing their first oocyte retrieval with blastocyst culture attempted during the same study period. Results: In women who had a second cycle, the median number of oocyte retrieved (11 vs 9), fertilized oocytes (7 vs 5), usable embryos (6 vs 4) and blastocysts (3 vs 1) was higher in the second cycle compared to the first cycle (All p < 0.001). Blastocyst formation rates were significantly increased from 33% in the first cycle to 50% in the second cycle across the age group (p < 0.001). However, the primary transfer LBRs were significantly lower in the second cycle than that in the initial cycle (40.82% versus 51.79%, aOR: 0.74 [0.65, 0.84]). LBRs in the second cycle were 42.26%, 42.68%, 25.49% and 16.22% in women aged < 35, 35–37, 38–40, and > 40 years. Conclusion: There was a notable enhancement in laboratory outcomes following the second attempt in women whose initial IVF cycles were unsuccessful. The global obesity problem is becoming increasingly serious, with eight of the top ten causes of death in Taiwan in 2020 being related to obesity. Morbid obesity poses a significant threat to one’s health and well-being. In recent years, bariatric surgery has emerged as a more effective treatment option for patients with morbid obesity. However, the procedure is not without risks. This study aims to examine the factors that impact the postoperative efficacy evaluation of patients with morbid obesity. This study uses a retrospective cross-sectional design, with medical records being collected retrospectively. The data was collected from patients who underwent bariatric surgery between July 1, 2017 and June 30, 2020 at a hospital in southern Taiwan. A total of 663 patients were included in the study and were observed for 1 year after the surgery. The independent variables included demographic variables, perceived symptoms variables, perceived lifestyle variables, and surgery-related variables, while the dependent variables included weight loss outcomes and complications. The prognostic factors affecting the postoperative efficacy evaluation of patients with pathological obesity were determined using multiple regression analysis and binary regression analysis. The study found that 65.6% of the participants were female, with an average age of 36.8 years. The results of the multiple regression and binary logistic regression showed that gender, age, BMI, diabetes, and smoking habit were the predictors of postoperative weight loss. Hypertension, diabetes, liver disease, kidney disease, smoking habit, drinking habit, and operation time were the predictors of postoperative complications. The study found that the presence of the aforementioned 12 significant factors can affect the success of weight loss after surgery and the incidence of postoperative complications. Osteoporosis is usually caused by excessive bone resorption and energy metabolism plays a critical role in the development of osteoporosis. However, little is known about the role of energy metabolism-related genes in osteoporosis. This study aimed to explore the important energy metabolism-related genes involved in the development of osteoporosis and develop a diagnosis signature for osteoporosis. The GSE56814, GSE62402, and GSE7158 datasets were downloaded from the NCBI Gene Expression Omnibus. The intersection of differentially expressed genes between high and low levels of body mineral density (BMD) and genes related to energy metabolism were screened as differentially expressed energy metabolism genes (DE-EMGs). Subsequently, a DE-EMG-based diagnostic model was constructed and differential expression of genes in the model was validated by RT-qPCR. Furthermore, a receiver operating characteristic curve and nomogram model were constructed to evaluate the predictive ability of the diagnostic model. Finally, the immune cell types in the merged samples and networks associated with the selected optimal DE-EMGs were constructed. A total of 72 overlapped genes were selected as DE-EMGs, and a five DE-EMG based diagnostic model consisting B4GALT4, ADH4, ACAD11, B4GALT2, and PPP1R3C was established. The areas under the curve of the five genes in the merged training dataset and B4GALT2 in the validation dataset were 0.784 and 0.790, respectively. Moreover, good prognostic prediction ability was observed using the nomogram model (C index = 0.9201; P = 5.507e−14). Significant differences were observed in five immune cell types between the high- and low-BMD groups. These included central memory, effector memory, and activated CD8 T cells, as well as regulatory T cells and activated B cells. A network related to DE-EMGs was constructed, including hsa-miR-23b-3p, DANCR, 17 small-molecule drugs, and two Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathways, including metabolic pathways and pyruvate metabolism. Our findings highlighted the important roles of DE-EMGs in the development of osteoporosis. Health technology assessment (HTA) is a multidisciplinary process that determines the value of health technology at different points in its lifecycle. Safety issues have become more important since regulatory authorities are increasingly adopting flexible standards, processes, and evidentiary requirements for drug approval. In this article, we compared the different role of regulatory authorities and HTA agencies. Additionally, the experience of regulatory-HTA collaboration for assessment and/or decision-making on safety issues in the lifecycle of a health technology is illustrated, including olmesartan (angiotensin II receptor antagonist) and the direct-acting hepatitis C virus (HCV) antiviral agents. Post-licensing data can be derived from various sources such as electronic health records, medical claims, drug and disease registries, post-authorization safety studies (PASS) or post-authorization safety efficacy studies (PAES), periodic benefit–risk assessment reports, as well as HTA reassessment reports, which incorporate utilization information from patients in a real-world setting and provide crucial evidence for various purposes. With the ongoing accumulation of safety and efficacy information during post-regulatory approval, a standardized process for continuous data collection and active reassessment of risk and benefit becomes crucial for managing the lifecycle of health technologies. In order to define evidence requirements clearly, reduce uncertainty, and minimize delays in HTA approval, early engagement and collaboration of HTA agencies in the regulatory review processes have become more common. However, there is currently limited interaction and collaboration between regulatory authorities and HTA agencies. This article aims to identify the challenges faced by regulators and HTA agencies today, emphasizing the significance of conducting regulatory reviews and health technology assessments throughout a technology's lifecycle, underlining the value of utilizing real-world data and evidence, and emphasizing the necessity of enhancing collaboration between regulatory authorities and HTA agencies, all within the overarching context of drug safety. Evidence regarding the association between dietary niacin intake and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is limited. Our study investigates the relationship between dietary niacin intake and the prevalance and incidence of COPD in the adult population of the United States, using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2003 to 2018. Data on niacin intake were extracted through dietary intake interviews. COPD diagnoses were based on lung function, medical history, and medication usage. We analyzed the association between niacin consumption and COPD using multiple logistic regression and restricted cubic spline models. The study included 7055 adult participants, divided into COPD (n = 243; 3.44%) and non-COPD (n = 6812; 96.56%) groups. Those with COPD had lower average niacin intake (21.39 ± 0.62 mg/day) compared to the non-COPD group (25.29 ± 0.23 mg/day, p < 0.001). In the adjusted multivariable model, the odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) for COPD in the highest versus lowest quartile of dietary niacin intake were 0.55 (0.33 to 0.89, P for trend = 0.009). Subgroup analysis, after adjustment for various variables, revealed no significant interaction effects. Dietary niacin intake was inversely associated with COPD prevalence in US adults. Participants with the highest dietary niacin intake demonstrated the lowest odds of COPD. Cotesia ruficrus (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) is an endoparasitic natural enemy of various Lepidopteran pests, and it plays a significant role in integrated pest management. In the field survey of maize fields, we found for the first time that the indigenous parasitoid C. ruficrus parasitized the major invasive pest Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) in China. We identified 18 odorant-binding proteins (CrufOBPs) of C. ruficrus through the RNA-Seq method, and PCR analysis showed that 13 out of the CrufOBPs were highly expressed in antennae. Two CrufOBPs, CrufOBP3 with the highest antennal expression and CrufOBP17 with antenna-specific expression, were selected for protein biosynthesis in the prokaryotic protein expression system and subjected to protein purification. Through fluorescence binding assay, seven maize volatile compounds were selected for the antennal electroantennography (EAG) study, and the results indicated that female C. ruficrus exhibited distinct responses to these volatiles at different concentrations. Octanal and 2-heptanone of 10 mg mL−1 were chosen for olfactory behavioral experiments because of their high EAG responses, and the results showed that C. ruficrus adults were significantly attracted at certain concentrations. Furthermore, in the cage experiments, 10 mg mL−1 of 2-heptanone significantly increased the parasitism rate of C. ruficrus on S. frugiperda. These findings not only provide a theoretical basis for studying the odorant-binding protein family of C. ruficrus but also contribute to the development of novel pest control strategies for this invasive pest management. Objective: To reduce the number of biopsies performed on benign breast lesions categorized as BI-RADS 4–5, we investigated the diagnostic performance of combined two-dimensional and three-dimensional shear wave elastography (2D + 3D SWE) with standard breast ultrasonography (US) for the BI-RADS assessment of breast lesions. Methods: A total of 897 breast lesions, categorized as BI-RADS 3–5, were subjected to standard breast US and supplemented by 2D SWE only and 2D + 3D SWE analysis. Based on the malignancy rate of less than 2% for BI-RADS 3, lesions assessed by standard breast US were reclassified with SWE assessment. Results: After standard breast US evaluation, 268 (46.1%) participants underwent benign biopsies in BI-RADS 4–5 lesions. By using separated cutoffs for upstaging BI-RADS 3 at 120 kPa and downstaging BI-RADS 4a at 90 kPa in 2D + 3D SWE reclassification, 123 (21.2%) participants underwent benign biopsy, resulting in a 54.1% reduction (123 versus 268). Conclusion: Combining 2D + 3D SWE with standard breast US for reclassification of BI-RADS lesions may achieve a reduction in benign biopsies in BI-RADS 4–5 lesions without sacrificing sensitivity unacceptably. Clinical relevance statement: Combining 2D + 3D SWE with US effectively reduces benign biopsies in breast lesions with categories 4–5, potentially improving diagnostic accuracy of BI-RADS assessment for patients with breast lesions. Dysfunction of extravillous trophoblasts (EVTs) might cause early pregnancy failure by interfering with embryo implantation and/or placentation. We previously reported that the villus miR-3074-5p expression level was increased, whereas the peripheral level of GDF15, a predict target gene of miR-3074-5p, was decreased in recurrent miscarriages (RM) patients, and miR-3074-5p could enhance apoptosis but reduce invasion of human extravillous trophoblast cells (EVTs). The aim of this study was to further explore roles of miR-3074-5p/GDF15 pathway in regulation of EVTs function. It was validated that GDF15 was not the direct target of miR-3074-5p, whereas EIF2S1, an upstream regulator of GDF15 maturation and secretion, was the direct target of miR-3074-5p. The villus expression levels of GDF15 and EIF2S1 were significantly decreased in RM patients. Knockdown of GDF15 expression presented inhibitory effects on proliferation, migration, and invasion of HTR8/SVneo cells. Up-regulated miR-3074-5p expression led to the significant decreased GDF15 expression in HTR8/SVneo cells, and this effect could be efficiently reversed by the overexpression of EIF2S1. Meanwhile, the suppressive effects of miR-3074-5p on proliferation, migration, and invasion of HTR8/SVneo cells could be intercepted by the treatment of recombinant human GDF15 protein. Collectively, these data suggested that miR-3074-5p could reduce GDF15 production via targeting inhibition of EIF2S1 expression, and the deficiency in GDF15 function might lead to the early pregnancy loss by attenuating proliferation and invasion of EVTs. Emulsion polymerization is an effective means of synthesizing high-molecular-weight polymers in order to reduce the consumption of fossil energy. This paper adopts isoamyl octanoate to replace white oil as the continuous phase of emulsion polymerization to synthesize the high molecular weight polyacrylamide emulsion RSE. S-80 and T-80 were chosen as the emulsifiers, and the test results showed that the HLB value is 5.72 when S-80/T-80 is 6.5. When S-80/T-80 is 6.5, the HLB value is 5.72. Water and isoamyl octanoate can produce ultra-low interfacial tension and stable arrangement in the interfacial membrane to form a stable emulsion, and the particle size is uniformly distributed in a normal manner. The test of the exothermic process of polymerization shows that the emulsion can be stabilized into nuclei, and polyacrylamide polymers with a molar mass of more than 18 million are obtained. The microstructure test observes that RSE molecules are in an aggregated state in the aqueous solution. A three-dimensional spatial network structure is formed, and the polymerization can be stabilized in a three-dimensional network structure after 120 °C, 170 s−1 shear, which still has good stability. After the variable shear performance test proved that the aqueous solution of RSE belongs to the typical non-Newtonian fluids, to shock test the viscoelasticity of different concentrations of RSE polymer, G′ > G″, the RSE solution to elasticity is dominant. In this paper, the capacity to form stable emulsions of isoamyl octanoate in the emulsion polymerization process is investigated to provide a basis for seeking the selection of a continuous phase with little environmental pollution and high functionality. In forensic practice, determining the postmortem submersion interval (PMSI) and cause-of-death of cadavers in aquatic ecosystems has always been challenging task. Traditional approaches are not yet able to address these issues effectively and adequately. Our previous study proposed novel models to predict the PMSI and cause-of-death based on metabolites of blood from rats immersed in freshwater. However, with the advance of putrefaction, it is hardly to obtain blood samples beyond 3 days postmortem. To further assess the feasibility of PMSI estimation and drowning diagnosis in the later postmortem phase, gastrocnemius, the more degradation-resistant tissue, was collected from drowned rats and postmortem submersion model in freshwater immediately after death, and at 1 day, 3 days, 5 days, 7 days, and 10 days postmortem respectively. Then the samples were analyzed with liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS) to investigate the dynamic changes of the metabolites. A total of 924 metabolites were identified. Similar chronological changes of gastrocnemius metabolites were observed in the drowning and postmortem submersion groups. The difference in metabolic profiles between drowning and postmortem submersion groups was only evident in the initial 1 day postmortem, which was faded as the PMSI extension. Nineteen metabolites representing temporally-dynamic patterns were selected as biomarkers for PMSI estimation. A regression model was built based on these biomarkers with random forest algorithm, which yielded a mean absolute error (± SE) of 5.856 (± 1.296) h on validation samples from an independent experiment. These findings added to our knowledge of chronological changes in muscle metabolites from submerged vertebrate remains during decomposition, which provided a new perspective for PMSI estimation. The antioxidant N-isopropyl-N′-phenyl-p-phenylenediamine (4010NA) was dissolved in ethanol and impregnated into silica aerogel (SAG) via vacuum-pressure cycles, yielding composite particles (A-N) with enhanced sustained-release and reinforcing capabilities. The effect of A-N on the mechanical properties and thermal-oxidative aging resistance of styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) vulcanizates was investigated. TGA and BET assessments indicated that the loading efficiency of 4010NA in SAG reached 14.26% within ethanol’s solubility limit. Incorporating A-N into SBR vulcanizates significantly elevated tensile strength by 17.5% and elongation at break by 41.9% over those with fumed silica and free 4010NA. Furthermore, A-N notably enhanced the thermal-oxidative aging resistance of SBR. After aging for 96 h at 100 °C, the tensile strength and elongation at break of SBR with A-N sustained 70.09% and 58.61% of their initial values, respectively, with the retention rate of elongation at break being 62.8% higher than that of SBR with fumed silica and free antioxidant. The study revealed that A-N composite particles significantly inhibited the crosslinking in SBR’s molecular chains, reducing hardening and embrittlement during later thermal-oxidative aging stages.
