Excessive phosphorus discharge causes water eutrophication and disturbs the homeostasis of aquatic ecosystems. Capacitive deionization (CDI) has been proven to be a more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly technology for removing phosphorus. Raw carbon (Raw C) electrodes are widely used in CDI. However, the phosphorus removal capacity of most unmodified Raw C still needs to be enhanced. Therefore, the Fe, N-co-doped carbon prepared in this study was expected to further improve the phosphorus removal performance. Herein, the optimal electrode with 5% Fe (FeNC) had an approximately 2.7 times higher adsorption capacity than Raw C. At a low concentration (5 mg P/L), FeNC exhibited a high maximum removal capacity of 4.28 mg P/g. Under reversed voltage, the phosphorus was easily desorbed by deionized water. Ion competition studies showed that coexisting ions adversely affected phosphorus adsorption onto FeNC in the order SO42- > NO3- > Cl-. Furthermore, the energy consumption of FeNC was calculated to be as low as 0.0069 kWh/g P and 0.023 kWh/m3 water under 1.2 V. More importantly, phosphorus removal by FeNC during CDI was demonstrated in simulated natural water from the Jinjiang River (Chengdu, China). This study builds a theoretical framework on how subnational governments use promotion schemes to motivate local bureaucrats to address conflicting tasks of economic development and environmental protection. We argue that subnational (province) governments can strategically allocate polluting industries to border areas to make neighbors bear the social cost of pollution and use promotion incentives to make their subordinates (city leaders) comply. Hence, when the central government imposes a stricter environmental regulation policy on provincial governments, border-city leaders obtain a higher probability of promotion. Based on a panel dataset of leaders' career information and administrations across cities in China, we find an increase in promotion probability for border-city leaders compared with their non-border counterparts after 2011 when the environmental protection task became more important. A potential channel is that border-city leaders accept the migration of polluting industries as a signal of compliance. The development of rapid methods for in situ chromium determination in natural water is important. A new nanocomposite was fabricated by impregnating gold nanoparticles onto archetypical UiO-66 metal organic frameworks and modifying glassy carbon electrodes (Au/UiO-66/GCE) for rapid Cr(VI) determination in water by linear scanning voltammetry (LSV). The Au/UiO-66/GCE showed excellent linearity in the 100 to 1200 ppb Cr(VI) concentration range, with 0.07132 µA/ppb·cm2 sensitivity and a 11.73 ppb detection limit. When potential interfering metals were added, including Cr(III) and Fe(III), the electrochemical detection signal of Cr(VI) did not meaningfully change, suggesting that Au/UiO-66/GCE has good selectivity. A Au/UiO-66/screen printing sensor was also developed for Cr(VI) and used with a portable, handheld electro-analyzer. The Au/UiO-66 nanocomposite—used as an active substrate for electrode modification—was stable, interference-free, and fast, showing promise for the practical determination of Cr(VI) species. \nHIGHLIGHTSThe nutritional value of dietary meat protein is closely related to its digestion and subsequent fermentation profiles. Therefore, the understanding of its digestion and its metabolic behaviors in the gut in terms of source and thermal processing attracts an interest for academia and industry. This review focuses on the digestion, absorption, metabolism and health-related outcomes of meat protein based on animal models and human trials. As for meat protein source, fish and chicken are generally associated with a better hepatic lipid metabolism, a higher energy metabolism, a lower intestinal excretion of trimethylamine-N-oxide, N-nitroso compounds, lipoperoxides and a higher abundance of Lactobacillus and A. muciniphila than beef and pork. In terms of thermal processing, a moderate heating can induce positive outcomes in digestibility of meat protein for young people, while well-cooked meat is recommended for the elderly to improve postprandial protein utilization. This review expands knowledge that will be essential for the rational selection of meat sources and thermal processing conditions of meat and meat products for optimal nutritional benefits. AbstractAs the ageing population grows and information technology evolves, elderly individuals increasingly rely on interacting with intelligent interfaces in their daily activities, posing a challenge to their interaction fluency. This study aims to identify the evaluation indicators and conditions in intelligent interactive interfaces that affect the operational performance and subjective preferences of elderly users. From there, general conclusions and strategies are summarised to promote the development of age-friendly design and practice in intelligent interactive interfaces. This systematic review includes 31 studies for analysis and classifies them into four categories according to the form of interaction: gesture interaction, voice interaction, multimodal interaction, and artificial intelligence interaction. The review indicates that factors such as the simplicity and direction of gestures in gesture interaction, the fluency of user expression and system recognition in voice interaction, modalities of interface input and feedback, as well as the conversational style, appearance, and mode of artificial intelligence, all affect user performance and preferences. However, there may be inconsistencies in the performance and preferences of elderly users in almost every form of interface.
