In the dense-medium coal preparation process magnetite powder is used, however, due to poor recovery of the magnetite, the consumption of magnetite increases which ultimately reflects in the economics. In order to continuously and efficiently recover the magnetite, a novel three-phase conical magnetic separator based on the principle of an alternating magnetic field generated by a three-phase linear motor, was developed. The distribution law of the magnetic field in the separation chamber was studied, and the magnetic separator's basic structure and parameters were determined. By varying the feed rate, coil current, coil turns, and particle size, magnetic separation experiments were conducted and compared with traditional magnetic separators. Cyanidin-3-O-galactoside and cyanidin-3-O-arabinoside (purity >98%) were isolated from black chokeberry by preparative high-performance liquid chromatography, and an animal experiment was conducted to investigate the pharmacokinetics of two anthocyanin monomers after intravenous administration. AbstractYolk-shell SnO2 mesoporous double-layer nanotubes were synthesized in one-step by single nozzle electrospinning. Compared with the traditional electrospinning using polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) as the precursor polymer to obtain the single nanotube material, two PVPs (PVPK88-96 and PVPK23-27) with different molecular weights in solution coupled with Sn2+ easily form the core-shell structure nanofiber through phase separation. The yolk-shell double-layer SnO2 nanotubes were obtained after calcination at 600 °C for 2 h. The yolk-shell SnO2 mesoporous double-layer nanotube is a promising sensing material toward 3-hydroxy-2-butanone as it shows high sensitivity, cycling stability, and selectivity. Climate change literacy (CCL) is recognized as a critical component in formulating and implementing effective climate change policies and actions. However, the degree of CCL among those entrusted with these very responsibilities – public officials, remains relatively unexplored. This study pioneers an investigation into the CCL of public officials in Taiwan through a national survey. Our findings indicate that while a majority of these officials are cognizant of climate change issues, their personal commitment to climate action leaves considerable room for growth. Furthermore, their general understanding of climate change, its impacts, and the necessary adaptation strategies is found wanting. A similar deficit is observed in their comprehension of the relevance of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to climate change. Our study, by establishing a framework for assessing CCL among public officials and providing preliminary data on the CCL of Taiwanese officials, not only fills a significant knowledge gap but also lays the groundwork for comparative studies across nations. Moreover, our findings underscore the need for governments to invest in enhancing the CCL of their personnel, thereby equipping them with the requisite knowledge and motivation to contribute effectively to global climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts. AbstractBeef is an important source of protein for human consumption globally; in addition to beef, water buffalo and yak meat are widely consumed in Asia. Additionally, water buffalo horns are an integral part of traditional Chinese medicine. Adulteration of water buffalo horn with cattle and yak horn for economic gain has become a prevalent and pressing concern. This study used multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for the simultaneous identification of meat and horns from water buffalo, cattle, and yaks within a single PCR test. Species-specific primers were designed for multiplex PCR based on a comprehensive comparison of mitochondrial gene sequences with those of commonly edible and horned animals. Multiplex PCR conditions were optimized by considering the concentration of components and the annealing temperatures for each set of species-specific primer pairs. A total of 220 bp amplicons were obtained for water buffalo, 269 bp for cattle, and 346 bp for yak. Validation measures were used to eliminate interference from other animal sources. AbstractAlkaloids are naturally occurring compounds with complex structures found in natural plants. To further improve the understanding of plant alkaloids, this review focuses on the classification, toxicity and mechanisms of action, providing insight into the occurrence of alkaloid-poisoning events and guiding the safe use of alkaloids in food, supplements and clinical applications. Based on their chemical structure, alkaloids can be divided into organic amines, diterpenoids, pyridines, isoquinolines, indoles, pyrrolidines, steroids, imidazoles and purines. The mechanisms of toxicity of alkaloids, including neurotoxicity, hepatoxicity, nephrotoxicity, cardiotoxicity and cytotoxicity, have also been reviewed. Some cases of alkaloid poisoning have been introduced when used as food or clinically, including accidental food poisoning, excessive consumption, and poisoning caused by the improper use of alkaloids in a clinical setting, and the importance of safety evaluation was illustrated. This review summarizes the toxicity and mechanism of action of alkaloids and provides evidence for the need for the safe use of alkaloids in food, supplements and clinical applications. To evaluate the value of nanopore targeted sequencing in diagnosing pneumonia pathogens. This large-scale multicentre prospective study performed in 8 hospitals across China from April to October 2022. Hospitalised patients with a diagnosis of pneumonia at admission were included. Complete clinical data were collected, and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid were obtained from each patient. These samples underwent simultaneous testing using conventional microbial testing, metagenomic next-generation sequencing, and nanopore targeted sequencing. A total of 218 patients were included. Among the 168 cases of pulmonary infection, 246 strains of pathogens were confirmed. Nanopore targeted sequencing outperformed conventional microbial testing, identifying more pathogens with a sensitivity increase of 47.9% (77.2% vs. 29.3%). Metagenomic next-generation sequencing had a sensitivity of 82.9%. Total of 70.1% patients had consistent results in both metagenomic next-generation sequencing and nanopore targeted sequencing. Nanopore targeted sequencing exhibited significantly higher sensitivity in detecting Pneumocystis jiroveci, cytomegalovirus, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Nontuberculous mycobacteria, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Mycoplasma pneumoniae compared to conventional microbial testing. However, metagenomic next-generation sequencing demonstrated higher sensitivity than nanopore targeted sequencing for Aspergillus (88.5% vs. 53.8%). Regarding the detection of co-infections, nanopore targeted sequencing displayed significantly higher sensitivity than conventional microbial testing (76.7% vs. 28.7%) and was on par with metagenomic next-generation sequencing (76.7% vs. 82.9%). Nanopore targeted sequencing performs equally well as metagenomic next-generation sequencing in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid for pathogen diagnosis in pneumonia, both methods showing higher sensitivity than conventional microbial testing. Dusts from furnaces for pyrometallurgical refining of copper (Cu) in which arsenic (As) was pre-removed through the use of vacuum carbothermal reduction methods could be used as raw materials. After treating the As pre-removed dusts through oxidative leaching using waste acids, the process of neutralizing and precipitating As and iron (Fe) in the leaching solution was investigated, as well as the precipitation and stabilization process of As and Fe residues. The results show that the leaching rate of Cu, Zn, and As from such dusts can reach 98.98%, 97.46%, and 95.22%, respectively, after leaching operation with waste acids under a liquid–solid ratio of 8:1, a leaching temperature of 80°C, an airflow rate of 300 ml/min, and a leaching time of 120 min. When the molar ratio of Fe to As (n(Fe)/n(As)) is 1.50 in the solution after advanced oxidization, and the final pH value of neutralization is 2.0, the precipitation rate of As and Cu in the residues as ferric arsenates is 93.65% and 2.2%, respectively. As and Fe are neutralized and precipitated, which allows Cu to enter the solution, while As enters the residues. Analyzing how participants learn from each other during online forums on discussion boards or social media platforms is often challenging. One of the predominant methods of analyzing such learning is through qualitative content analysis or interaction analysis. The Interaction Analysis Model (IAM), developed by Gunawardena, Lowe and Anderson which qualitatively examines five levels of social construction of knowledge in online discussions has gained traction among researchers as a viable model for assessing how participants learn from each other. However, analyzing large amounts of textual data using this model can be time consuming. Therefore, this study explores how a social learning analytic method based on text analysis can be used to quantitatively analyze the five levels of knowledge construction stipulated in the IAM. Automating the analysis process will enable researchers and instructors to develop a snapshot of the process of social construction of knowledge in online discussions, and thereby make improvements to discussions to enhance collaborative learning as it unfolds.
