This paper examines the Confucian concept of learning, or xue ([character omitted]), from the perspective of ecological humanism. Through a comparative interpretation, this paper attempts to disclose the significance of Confucian xue conceived as a practice of aesthetic appreciation and creativity, emphasizing in particular its function within an eco-centric worldview. The author reviews the relevant concepts of ecological humanism as expressed in the ideas of John Dewey and Thomas Alexander, then applies these as a theoretical framework for interpreting xue and its related concepts and practices as they appear in the Confucian text the Lunyu ([characters omitted] ). It is argued that xue is a process of developing and expressing virtuosity and artistry in the "arts of life," and that its practice was understood as a direct participation in the creative development of nature. The significance of such a concept of learning for contemporary educational philosophy is discussed in conclusion.

This paper responds directly to the question, how do we communicate our philosophy of art education? It does this by drawing upon previous research with "House of Imagination, School Without Walls" and doctoral research exploring children's learning identity as artists, to illuminate a philosophical approach to art education and its pedagogy that highlights both human and more-than-human dimensions of learning in communities of practice involving artists, researchers and educators working alongside children and young people where spaces of possibility for practice and innovation emerge. The paper focuses particularly on current and creative research in the "Forest of Imagination," a long-term participatory contemporary arts and architecture event in Bath, UK. "Forest of Imagination" offers an alternative, creative approach to learning, focusing on ecological imagination and nature connection. As a new aesthetic imaginary, the Forest of Imagination is a living, breathing art classroom, inspiring curiosity, imagination and a deeper connection with the natural world.

This article reports on a national study commissioned by Tennis Australia to assess the positive role that sport, specifically tennis, has on the lives of LGBT+ people in Australia. It explores specifically the role of tennis in building social solidarity and community capital through leisurely and organised sporting activities. Theoretically, this paper is anchored in the work of Putnam, where we demonstrate how sport promotes and bridges social capital. Scholarship that explores how sport can be a source of celebration and enjoyment for LGBT+ people remains underexplored. To gain comprehensive insights into the perceptions and lived experiences of LGBT+ tennis players, we employed a qualitative research design drawing on the methods of semi-structured interviews, focus groups, and participant observation. In total 27 interviews were conducted, 3 focus groups and over 50 hours of observations at various LGBT+ tennis clubs and tournaments in Sydney, Hobart, Perth and Melbourne. Our paper makes a significant contribution to scholarship by assessing the ways in which sport can advance inclusion efforts for LGBT+ people, and positively impact their lives and overall wellbeing. Our research clearly indicated that those who play tennis reported improvement in their mental and physical health whilst also enhancing their social capital.

Purpose: This paper aims to identify how the faculties of a Colombian University have understood the concept of sustainability and the way they have embedded it into their training. Design/methodology/approach: Qualitative research was done using documentary and content analysis which allowed researchers to recognize features correlated to sustainability which are needed to promote and act for social equity, ecological care and economic development. Findings: It was found that most faculties at the university do not conceptualize it; ergo, courses are designed neither for promoting sustainability nor sustainable education. Besides this, almost no level of integration was identified among faculties on this topic. Research limitations/implications: Many people agree education for sustainability is a key action to overcome the complex challenges the planet is facing; nevertheless, the prejudice that training to solve sustainability problems is an exclusive task of certain disciplines is common. This misunderstanding reduces the possibilities of pursuing a sustainable future, considering that these issues affect all humankind and that they can only be solved through interdisciplinary and collaborative work. Practical implications: The paper also outlines some actions that Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana (UPB) can take to consider sustainability issues, and they are as follows--identification of competencies to include in the curricula; recognition of the potential of integrating education for sustainable development (ESD) into the curricula by strengthening the competencies and capacities; strengthening the competencies and capacities of the academic staff through ESD training processes; articulation of research with the curricula in such a way that the results of research processes permeate the curricula. Social implications: This study has some limitations. For instance, regarding the survey, the size of the sample may seem too small, a bigger sample will allow better information for the results. Regarding the case studies, a greater diversity of programs could have provided a wider range of results. Despite these limitations, for UPB, the study shows a snapshot of the literature review and the articulation of sustainable development and climate change education (CCE) in all programs the university has. The implications of this paper and research are the following. First, it reiterates the importance of having within the same institution a common language to talk about sustainability. Second, it recognizes the competencies and skills that should considered when implementing ESD and CCE in curricula. Originality/value: This idea corresponds to a lack of debate about what the term signifies and means. It is believed that, as sustainability has been highly researched in the past two decades, it is a cross-cutting element in any faculty proposal; however, due to the complexity of the term, it is understood differently by each member of the same academic community, affecting their ability to design a systemic and systematic curriculum that enables to educate for sustainable goals.

Purpose: Greener on the Outside for Prisons (GOOP) is a therapeutic horticulture programme targeting the high levels of complex health and social care needs in prisons in England. The COVID-19 pandemic and resulting lockdowns led to unprecedented disruption in prisons in England. This paper examines the experiences of prisoners both during and post-lockdowns in four prisons, to understand the effects of participation in GOOP on health and wellbeing after the disruption of restrictions, and identify implications for developing this programme further. Design/methodology/approach: The paper is based on original qualitative data gathered from in-depth narrative-based interviews and focus groups with prisoners and staff in four English prisons. Audio data was transcribed and subject to a thematic analysis, drawing from a realist-informed lens. Findings: Thematic analysis revealed five key themes: reimagining the GOOP context; increasing empathy between participants; building sense of coherence; reconnecting with nature and a joined-up connection with provider services. The main arguments centre on horticulture in prisons remaining under-utilised as a means of promoting good health and wellbeing, although there is enthusiasm from staff to provide green spaces for the most vulnerable prisoners and develop a range of mechanisms to connect people in prison with nature. Originality/value: This paper focuses on new knowledge arising from an unprecedented situation in English prisons, from key stakeholders on the frontline of garden activities. Accounts demonstrate the extent of the health and wellbeing benefits of participation in such activities in this challenging environment, which has implications for practice for prisons more widely.

Playwork is a recognised profession in the United Kingdom (UK) and is currently a growing area of interest internationally. However, debates about the nature and purpose of playwork have raged in the playwork field since the profession was invented in the early adventure playgrounds. This study is the first to capture data about what the now international playwork workforce understands to be the purpose of playwork. The International Playwork Census (IPC) was an online survey which asked participants from 19 different countries about their knowledge and experience of playwork. This paper reports on one question from the IPC: what is the purpose of playwork? A thematic analysis was undertaken from 193 responses on what was considered "the purpose of playwork" and three themes emerged: Facilitate and Provide for children's play; Support and Advocate. This paper describes how these three themes reflect both the historical change in understandings of the purpose of playwork and how different understandings of playwork are developed through the experience of practitioners working in range of different contexts.

The aim of the present study was to assess the energy-, environmental-, and climate change literacy among primary and middle school students in selected cities of Ethiopia. This survey study was conducted in primary and middle schools found in six cities and involved a total of 1589 students. The finding indicate that the participants of the study had a very good awareness about principles underlying generation and use of energy but performed much poorly in items related to awareness about impacts of climate change. The paper also concluded that students' views about issues related to generation and use of energy cannot be considered as favorable. On the other hand, the results on practices related to energy use and environmental protection reveal that participants reported pro-energy and environmental practice. Interestingly, the practice of participants doesn't seem to align with the generally unfavorable attitude towards energy generation and climate change. Therefore, it is advised that primary and middle schools offer a thorough education on energy and environmental education because these levels of instruction have a special role to play in raising awareness of and developing skills and attitudes related to environmental and climate change education.

At the heart of sustainability is the relationship between humans and the planet. The binary of anthropocentric or ecocentric worldviews appears to be powerful in defining this relationship. Sustainability requires nuanced approaches which go beyond simple binaries, and therefore a dialectic approach which works to synthesise the binaries may be helpful. This paper draws on Maori cultural understandings of fire to trouble the ecocentric versus anthropocentric binary. Maori oral traditions of fire identify the connections between people and the planet and see people as part of fire and fire as part of people. By exploring Maori oral traditions, it is possible to see fire as more than purely an element that contributes to environmental problems and reveals the pedagogical potential of campfires to reignite the relationship between humans and the planet.

The development trends and research layout of agricultural resources and the environment (ARE) are the focus of global attention. In this study, we compiled a data set of SCI papers published in the ARE field since the 13th Five-Year Plan. Thereafter, the topic extraction model of Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) was used to mine the text content so as to explore the research layout of global ARE. The results show that, between 2016 and the time of this study, 31,559 articles were published in the ARE field, exhibiting an overall upward trend. During this time, China and the United States were the main forces in paper publishing. The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University, and the US Department of Agriculture were the top three publishing institutions. Research institutes in China, the United States, Russia, Sweden, the Netherlands, Brazil, and Australia cooperated closely, and the CAS was at the center of the cooperation network. The clustering results of text topics based on the LDA model show that three topics—namely, the interaction mechanisms of plants, the rhizosphere, and microorganisms; the mechanisms and predictive evaluation of soil landslides or erosion; and the decomposition and interaction response of organic matter in agroforestry ecosystems—have been the hot research areas in this field since 2016. The management and efficient utilization of farmland nutrients, and the technology and mechanisms of agricultural waste resource utilization have become key research directions since 2019. The research layouts of China and the United States in this field were analyzed, and the similarities and differences were compared. In addition, suggestions for the future development of ARE are proposed. This study is of great significance for the overall development trend of ARE, the timely tracking of scientific research hotspots, outlining key research and development directions, and promoting scientific and technological innovation. Background: The university cafeteria is a crucial element in shaping students' dining experiences and their physical well-being. This study was conducted at a public university in Bangladesh. Purpose: This research has a dual purpose: firstly, to assess student satisfaction with the university cafeteria using key indicators and secondly, to identify critical factors influencing this satisfaction through advanced data analysis employing recursive feature elimination (RFE). The ultimate goal is to enhance cafeteria services, align them with student preferences, and boost overall satisfaction. Methods: Data collection involved 150 paper-based questionnaires with mixed data types, including questions based on prior research assessments. The model-building process included the chisquared test and the recursive feature elimination process. Results: The study identifies 12 factors significantly affecting cafeteria food satisfaction, with four factors having a notable impact: meal type and freshness, staff attitude, and wait length. Discussion: This research highlights the interconnectedness of seemingly distinct cafeteria factors and their potential to influence health outcomes. Practical recommendations are made for improving cafeteria efficiency and adapting to changing student needs. Translation to Health Education Practice: Health education interventions aimed at enhancing the cafeteria experience for university students should include a quantitative analysis of factors impacting students' overall cafeteria satisfaction.

The term 'nature sports' can be understood in different ways, depending on how the words 'sport' and 'nature' are explained. Since 'nature' is usually understood as 'ungroomed', 'nature sports' may be interpreted either as non-competitive practices in ungroomed nature (as discussed by Krein), with examples such as backcountry skiing, climbing or surfing; or as competitive sports in ungroomed nature. This paper argues that those ultra sports that take place in ungroomed nature, such as ultra swimming and ultra running, are better candidates for being called 'nature sports' than those non-competitive ones suggested by Krein; and that this is also more in line with the contemporary common use of the term 'sport'. This paper discusses these 'ultra/nature' sports, mainly from the point of view of their relationship to nature, the values that they offer to athletes, and their specific temporality. This editorial article discusses recent findings in the optimization and engineering for sustainable development. The current Special Issue (SI) of the Optimization and Engineering journal stems from the 2022 Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems Conferences. These events included the 5th South East European, 3rd Latin American, and 17th SDEWES Conferences. Being selected from conference presentations, the papers in SI represent the main topics in optimization approaches that integrate various life-supporting systems discussed during these three events. After careful selection, the current SI accepted ten excellent papers summarized here. These contributions use differentiated modeling approaches and supporting tools, such as P-graph and network-flow modeling, computational fluid dynamics, pinch analysis (PA), and the Geographic Information System. The range of optimization methods includes mixed-integer linear and mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MILP and MINLP), dynamic programming, stochastic optimization, and PA and P-graph extensions. Mauli ola, optimal health and wellbeing from a Hawaiian perspective, is achieved by being pono, or morally just and upright, and maintaining an intricate balance physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally through one's relations. Cultural practices, including practices that foster a connection to the water, land, ocean, and natural environment, may serve as protective and resilience factors, thereby promoting health and wellbeing. This paper starts by sharing the genealogical foundations of cultural practices in Hawai'i as the foundations of Native Hawaiian lifestyles and ways of knowing. The paper proceeds with data analyses that aim to better understand the role of cultural practices in relation to connectedness to 'Āina (the land, nature, and the environment, which nourish our bodies) and Native Hawaiian health based on cross-sectional correlations and qualitative data. The findings demonstrate the importance of cultural practices, specifically 'Āina practices, and identify 'Āina protection, restoration, and conservation as major health priorities. The correlations demonstrate statistically significant relationships between cultural practices; a physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional connection to 'Āina; and health outcomes. These findings continue to support literature and other declarations that support healthcare and medicine that are culturally grounded in Indigenous values and traditional systems of medicine. Forages resources represent the vector between vegetal production and animal production, constituting, at the same time, the category of essential inputs for obtaining favourable technical-economic results in the animal breeding sector. The paper analysis the challenges and risks faced by these fodder resources in the context of environmental and climate changes, also presenting substitution alternatives, in case of deficit situations. As research methods used, descriptive and comparative analysis can be listed, along with correlations and analysis of statistical indicators, based on available official data. The analysis highlights the fact that, in the conditions of climate changes, ensuring the fodder for animal farms can present certain risks and, consequently, it is necessary to take managerial decisions to improve efficiency and reorientation in the structure of fodder crops, considering their nutritional qualities. One of the main global problems related to the environment is air pollution which not only affects the environment and the ecosystem but also affects human health. Many countries of the world did research on how to reduce air pollution so that the concentrations do not exceed the permissible thresholds which are set at that level so that neither human health nor the environment are exposed to further damage. One of the issues regarding air pollution is the concentrations of PM particles 2.5 and 10, PM particles are a big problem in developing countries such as the Republic of North Macedonia. The research paper was focused in processing the data that has been collected for daily averages of PM 2,5 and PM10 particles that contribute in air pollution. All analyzes and processing of the results are done in compliance with the current laws of the Republic of North Macedonia and with Directive 2008/50/EC, all for µg/m3. In the city of Skopje, numerous exceedances of the permissible thresholds of PM particles 2.5 and 10 were recorded at the two measurement stations where the results were obtained for the months of January, February, March, April, May and June of 2023. The present study is based on an analysis of carbon indicators in the environment during the COVID-19 pandemic period. It aims to provide an outlook for the future development of global carbon neutrality in the post- pandemic period.The research on the carbon index during the COVID-19 epidemic is a new scientific work, which is of great significance for the future development of environmental science. Therefore, it is necessary to write a review report on past events before fully conducting this study. It utilized various climate models, initially 232 papers, but eventually narrowing it down to 49 papers for the final context and examination. By examining the carbon neutrality of different phase of the pandemic (pre-pandemic, mid-pandemic, and post-pandemic), as well as considering various climate scenarios, we aim to generate diverse research findings. As the result, the epidemic has had a global impact, posing threats not only to human health and lives but also having far-reaching economic and environmental implications. In the short term, the pandemic has had some positive impacts on advancing carbon neutrality goals. However, in the long-term, it could lead to a slowdown or delay in the achieving global carbon neutrality due to various challenges. These challenges include diverting more resources towards pandemic response and reducing investment in clean energy. Pandemics contribute to global health and economic crises, necessitating significant societal resources such as medical equipment, medicines, human and financial resources to control transmission and treat infected individuals. Consequently, other vital environmental issues like climate change may be neglected or postponed. Ultimately, the financial constraints faced by many countries and businesses during the pandemic may compel them to reduce investments in clean energy as a means to save money and cut costs. Sustainable development is essential for the survival of the planet. The massive increase in GHG emissions due to human activities has put the world in unrest. The Indian construction industry is emerging and evolving at a rapid rate and has understood the grave situation, and for saving the environment has come up with innovative solutions for developing green buildings or sustainable construction. In this paper, the two different (the GRIHA Rating System and the IGBC Green New Building Rating System) of India were studied. The sample size was 40 construction professionals working on green building projects. An interview schedule was used for data collection. The data was subjected to a suitable analysis and the AHP method was applied. Based on the research findings, strategies to go green has been suggested for the IGBC and GRIHA rating system which may serve as a ready reckoner for enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of the construction management process. Therefore, keeping in mind the above view this research paper "Review of Indian Green Building Rating Systems by Using Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) on Various Parameters" becomes indispensable. In identifying the status of cloud computing in a state of sustainability in terms of contribution and impact of cloud computing, the authors have gathered articles and journals and applied different methods to achieve the purpose of the study. The author hopes to identify the dominant challenges or issues that data centers have faced today in achieving cloud sustainability, specifically in the context of promoting greener practices within companies. Furthermore, the study will try to evaluate how cloud computing technologies help businesses in economics, environment, and social systems, also focusing on their environmental impact reduction strategies. Lastly, assessing the Gartner Hype Cycle for 2023, particularly to Cloud Sustainability, exploring when cloud sustainability is expected to reach its plateau of productivity, which is projected to occur within 2 to 5 years from the current timeframe. The study used a qualitative analysis framework that focuses on collecting data through experiences, opinions, and ideas related to the topic. Further, the author used thematic analysis to deeply understands the collected data systematically. Lastly, the author used mind mapping to provide a visual presentation and easily categorized the collected data. The paper discussed the contribution and advantages of cloud computing in economics, environment, and social systems. Furthermore, it also identified challenges and issues of data centers that offer cloud services. Thus, Data Centers are now starting to address these issues and this paper discusses all possible solutions that data centers are now starting to implement. Moreover, to support this argument this paper cited top 5 data center companies promoting sustainability. The authors conclude cloud computing contributes to all businesses enhancing their efficiency and competitiveness in the market. Further, cloud computing helps other technologies to enhance their capacity. However, since there is no 100% perfect technology there are implication in cloud computing. This paper explores the diverse impact of the Olympic Movement on society, emphasizing core values like 'excellence', 'friendship', and 'respect'. Traditionally, the Olympic Movement actively promotes global sport through initiatives such as Olympic education programs, instilling moral dimensions, cultural values, and essential life skills. Recent Olympic Games are scrutinized for their organizers' focus on safety, pandemic management, environmental sustainability, and gender equality. This paper addresses crucial policy options, spanning human rights, social inclusion through sport, and the pervasive issue of inactivity affecting public health. Noteworthy successes in leveraging sports for refugees and combating substance use disorders are discussed, alongside joint efforts by the World Health Organization and the International Olympic Committee, to combat inactivity and promote health through sports. Exploration of gender equality in the Olympic Movement recognizes challenges and suggests actions, including increasing female participation and addressing sexual harassment. The intersection of sports, climate change, and environmental responsibility is examined, with a focus on the ambitious 'climate-positive' goals of the Paris 2024 Olympics. However, since most of the IOC actions are rather symbolic and not substantial, many organizations are called upon to take active initiatives. Actionable recommendations urge countries to prioritize physical activity policies, organize exercise programs, and collaborate across sectors for health and environmental sustainability. The Olympic Games should focus on promoting mass sports participation, fostering positive attitudes, enhancing public health through sports, education, peace, and societal values, advocating for a holistic approach that champions ethical values, and promoting Olympic education to build a better world through sports. The land of Himachal is well-known as "Dev Bhoomi " which is the well-suited name authored for Himachal Pradesh, being the place that is known for divine beings, Goddesses and nearby Gods overseeing the neighbourhood life and customs of individuals in the state. Himachal Pradesh has a rich social legacy and gastronomy which presents the anthropological, cultural, environmental and topographical diversity of the state. The influence on culinary culture reflection is seen in the variations of local destination development, movement of local populations, and architecture of houses, clothing styles, food and food habits, availability of raw materials, environmental conditions, and traditional knowledge of the local people. This paper is about how the food culture in Himachal Pradesh, especially in Hamirpur and Una districts, has been influenced by various things like history, geography, culture and how rich or poor people are. The paper talks about how the researchers studied it, such as how they chose who to talk to, how they collected information, and how they looked at the information to learn more. This study will be based on how people eat in Himachal and what food they like. We will be asking 110 people from two different districts about their eating habits, where they like to eat out and how they cook. We will use both new information we collect ourselves and information we get from other sources such as books and websites. Research on the quality of the air in rural areas is essential for determining base emissions of air pollutants, evaluating the effects of dust pollutants particular to rural areas, modeling the dispersion of pollutants, and developing appropriate pollution mitigation systems. The absence of a systematic review based on the assessment of air quality levels in agricultural settings based on integrated weather variables and air pollutants in the literature draws attention to the deficiencies and the necessity of further research in this area. Hence, our study aimed to develop an Arduino monitoring system with related sensors to acquire some air pollutants and weather parameters. Additionally, we proposed an innovative solution to compare air quality levels by suggesting a new criterion called an integrated indicator for air quality assessment (IAQA). It was created based on the weighted average method to combine the investigated air pollutants and weather parameters. This criterion was evaluated while conducting field measurements in 29 environmentally different agricultural regions located within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. To determine the integrated indicator, all the values of the variables were normalized between 0 and 1. The agricultural setting with the lowest integrated indicator was the best environmentally. The lowest and highest values of the integrated indicator ranged from 37.03% and 66.32%, respectively, with an arithmetic average of 48.24%. The developed criterion can change its value depending on the change in the weight value of the variables involved, and it is suitable for application to any other agricultural or non-agricultural setting to evaluate the pollution level in the air. Although similar research has been published, this paper presents novelty findings based on integrated values of air pollutants and weather variables for defining a new criterion called IAQA. This paper examines whether the quality of corporate governance has a significant impact on sustainable value added by the companies. It uses a value-based measure of corporate performance, that is, sustainable value added (SVA) that measures the costs on the basis of value created by a company in the process of utilizing economic, environmental and social capital. Quality of corporate governance has been measured through an index. The association between the two has been examined for a sample of companies listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Carbonex index for 2015–2019. The data were analysed through the panel data regression analysis. This paper found an insignificant impact of the corporate governance quality on sustainable value, but there exists a positive but a weak correlation between the two. It can be attributed to poor disclosure practices as the data on environmental and social performance are not disclosed by the Indian companies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

What are the waste management methods' historical places? In order to provide answers from earlier study, the current research work aims to investigate these important questions. The paper employed a desktop approach to provide answers to the research objectives. The work used a descriptive methodology to collect data from peer-reviewed sources, including books, journal articles and reports from environmental organizations. It was found that, waste is to a large extent subjective in meaning as a substance can only be regarded as a waste when the owner labels it as such. This is particularly relevant as different people may view substances differently as a waste, while another may view the same substance as a resource. This paper aims to understand the current research scenario through published studies on corporate sustainability, emphasizing the environmental approach. Methodologically, this research develops a systematic literature review based on papers published in the Web of Science database in the last ten years. As a result, there was an upward evolution of research on the searched topic, with one hundred fifteen publications in the last three years compared to one hundred six documents published in the previous seven years. It is also observed that studies published at the beginning of the time frame between 2011 and 2020 were more concerned with the adoption of corporate sustainability, while the most recent research focuses on new approaches and methodologies for its implementation. And, with regard to its implementation, one of the main barriers is the incorrect perception of senior managers that the results from corporate sustainability must be more linked to the economic than to the environmental and social spheres. As relevant aspects, this study observed that new technologies, currently led by the 5th generation mobile network (5G) and Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0), can contribute to the insertion of corporate sustainability in the industrial context.
