In this paper, the free convective flow and heat transfer in a porous rectangular enclosures filled with Cu-water nanofluid is studied and analyzed. The cavity sidewalls are exposed to a constant heat flux and the horizontal walls are assumed to be adiabatic. The governing equations describing the problem are solved using a finite difference method. The main parameters of our problem are: aspect ratio, volume fraction of nanoparticles, types of media, porosity of the medium, and Rayleigh number. The results indicate that an increase in aspect ratio from 0.1 to 0.7 leads to a significant increase of Nusselt number, which then reaches a maximum value. However, the heat transfer rate progressively decreases for aspect ratios greater than 0.7. Moreover, the addition of Cu-nanoparticles weakens the heat transfer. As a result, when the porous medium has low thermal conductivity, the solid matrix porosity becomes particularly more effective in improving heat transfer. Air-cooled heat exchangers in various industries enjoy an increasingly wider use thanks to their environmental friendliness and absence of the need for cooling water. Air-cooled heat exchangers from annular finned tubes are widely used in chemical, petrochemical, oil-refining, gas, and food industries, and also at automobile compressed natural gas filling stations (NGV gas stations), in heat power engineering, electric power engineering, refrigeration technology, and at nuclear power plants. The thermal capacity of air-cooled heat exchangers is largely determined by the characteristics of the motion of a flow of cooling air through them that can be organized with consumption of electric power by means of a ventilator or in an energy-saving regime by free convection. Unfortunately, the region of ambient air temperatures at which it is possible to use air-cooled heat exchangers under the conditions of free convection is limited. Low heat transfer intensity compared to forced convection is the main drawback of the free-convection regime which is usually compensated by an increase in a heat-emitting area, namely, by finning the heat transfer surface. By equipping air-cooled heat exchangers with additional devices making it possible to intensify free convection, the thermal performance of heat exchangers can be improved significantly. Fins and radial fins are essential elements in engineering applications, serving as critical components to optimize heat transfer and improve thermal management in a wide range of sectors. The thermal distribution within a radial porous fin was investigated in this study under steady-state conditions, with an emphasis on the impact of different factors. The introduction of an inclined magnetic field was investigated to assess the effects of convection and internal heat generation on the thermal behavior of the fin. The dimensionless form of the governing temperature equation was utilized to facilitate analysis. Numerical solutions were obtained through the implementation of the Hybrid Cuckoo Search Algorithm-based Artificial Neural Network (HCS-ANN). The Hartmann number (M) and the Convection-Conduction parameter (Nc) were utilized in the evaluation of heat transfer efficiency. Enhanced efficiency, as evidenced by decreased temperature and enhanced heat removal, was correlated with higher values of these parameters. Residual errors for both M and Nc were contained within a specified range of 10-6 to 10-14, thereby offering a quantitative assessment of the model's accuracy. As a crucial instrument for assessing the performance and dependability of predictive models, the residual analysis highlighted the impact of fractional orders on temperature fluctuations. As the Hartmann number increased, the rate of heat transfer accelerated, demonstrating the magnetic field's inhibitory effect on convection heat transport, according to the study. The complex relationship among Nc, fractional order (BETA), and temperature was underscored, which motivated additional research to improve our comprehension of the intricate physical mechanisms involved. This study enhanced the overall understanding of thermal dynamics in radial porous fins, providing significant implications for a wide array of applications, including aerospace systems and heat exchangers. In this study, we introduced a new type of basis function and subsequently a Chebyshev delta shaped collocation method (CDSC). We then use this method to numerically investigate both the natural convective flow and heat transfer of nanofluids in a vertical rectangular duct on the basis of a Darcy–Brinkman–Forchheimer model and the electroosmosis-modulated Darcy–Forchheimer flow of Casson nanofluid over stretching sheets with Newtonian heating problems. The approximate solution is represented in terms of Chebyshev delta shaped basis functions. Novel error estimates for interpolating polynomials are derived. Computational experiments were carried out to corroborate the theoretical results and to compare the present method with the existing Chebyshev pseudospectral method. To demonstrate our proposed approach, we also compared the numerical solutions with analytic solutions of the Poisson equation. Computer simulations show that the proposed method is computationally cheap, fast, and spectrally accurate and more importantly the obtained approximate solution can easily be used by researchers in this field. This study employs COMSOL software v 5.6 to investigate a novel approach to heat transfer via mixed convection in an open hollow structure with an unheated 90° baffle elbow. Two 20 W heat sources are strategically positioned on the cavity's bottom and right-angled wall for this research. Notably, the orientation of the baffle perpendicular to the airflow is used to direct external, unrestricted flow into the square cavity. The research investigates a range of air velocities (0.1, 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 m/s) and the intricate interaction between input air velocity, dual heated sources, and the presence of a right-angle baffle on critical thermodynamic variables, such as temperature distribution, isotherms, pressure variation, velocity profile, air density, and both local and mean Nusselt numbers. Validation of the applicable computational method is achieved by comparing it to two previous studies. Significant findings from numerical simulations indicate that the highest velocity profile is in the centre of the channel (2.3–2.68 m/s at an inflow velocity of 1.5 m/s), while the lowest profile is observed along the channel wall, with a notable disruption near the inlet caused by increased shear forces. The cavity neck temperature ranges from 380 to 640 K, with inflow air velocities varying from 0.1 to 1.5 m/s (Re is 812 to 12,182), respectively. In addition, the pressure fluctuates at the channel-cavity junction, decreasing steadily along the channel length and reaching a maximum at the intake, where the cavity neck pressure varies from 0.01 to 2.5 Pa with inflow air velocities changing from 0.1 to 1.5 m/s, respectively. The mean Nusselt number exhibits an upward trend as air velocity upon entry increases. The mean Nusselt number reaches up to 1500 when the entry air velocity reaches 1.5 m/s. Due to recirculation patterns, the presence of the 90° unheated baffle produces a remarkable cooling effect. The study establishes a direct correlation between input air velocity and internal temperature distribution, indicating that as air velocity increases, heat dissipation improves. This research advances our understanding of convective heat transfer phenomena in complex geometries and provides insights for optimising thermal management strategies for a variety of engineering applications.
