The rapid discrimination of bacteria is currently an emerging trend in the fields of food safety, medical detection, and environmental observation. Traditional methods often require lengthy culturing processes, specialized analytical equipment, and bacterial recognition receptors. In response to this need, we have developed a paper-based fluorescence sensor array platform for identifying different bacteria. The sensor array is based on three unique carbon quantum dots (CQDs) as sensing units, each modified with a different antibiotic (polymyxin B, ampicillin, and gentamicin). These antibiotic-modified CQDs can aggregate on the bacterial surface, triggering aggregation-induced fluorescence quenching. The sensor array exhibits varying fluorescent responses to different bacterial species. To achieve low-cost and portable detection, CQDs were formulated into fluorescent ink and used with an inkjet printer to manufacture paper-based sensor arrays. A smartphone was used to collect the responses generated by the bacteria and platform. Diverse machine learning algorithms were utilized to discriminate bacterial types. Our findings showcase the platform's remarkable capability to differentiate among five bacterial strains, within a detection range spanning from 1.0 × 10 3  CFU/mL to 1.0 × 10 7  CFU/mL. Its practicality is further validated through the accurate identification of blind bacterial samples. A carbonized interlayer effectively helps to improve the electrochemical performance of lithium–sulfur (Li–S) batteries. In this study, a simple and inexpensive carbon intermediate layer was fabricated using a traditional Korean paper called "hanji". This carbon interlayer has a fibrous porous structure, with a specific surface area of 91.82 m2 g−1 and a BJH adsorption average pore diameter of 26.63 nm. The prepared carbon interlayer was utilized as an intermediary layer in Li–S batteries to decrease the charge-transfer resistance and capture dissolved lithium polysulfides. The porous fiber-shaped carbon interlayer suppressed the migration of polysulfides produced during the electrochemical process. The carbon interlayer facilitates the adsorption of soluble lithium polysulfides, allowing for their re-utilization in subsequent cycles. Additionally, the carbon interlayer significantly reduces the polarization of the cell. This simple strategy results in a significant improvement in cycle performance. Consequently, the discharge capacity at 0.5 C after 150 cycles was confirmed to have improved by more than twofold, reaching 230 mAh g−1 for cells without the interlayer and 583 mAh g−1 for cells with the interlayer. Nature-based Solutions (NbS) are integral to efforts to keep global warming below 2°C in accordance with the United Nations' 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate Change. Yet the transboundary governance dimensions of NbS remain unclear and largely undocumented. In Southeast Asia, NbS have emphasised the conservation and/ or sustainable commodification of carbon sinks found in terrestrial and mangrove forests, seagrass meadows, peatlands and agricultural soils. Mostly project-driven and fixed-term, these "solutions" have often failed to meet their social and ecological objectives. Increasingly, they have added to cross-border problems of: (1) displaced carbon emissions; and (2) economic migration and societal dispossession. This perspective paper delineates a transboundary governance research agenda to mitigate these trade-offs and enhance the co-benefits of NbS in carbon sinks. Carbon containing waste has a certain calorific value and utilization value due to the presence of carbon elements. However, the current treatment methods are mostly traditional landfill disposal, incineration, or expensive physical and chemical reaction methods, which clearly do not comply with the rules of the current clean and resource-saving society. In this paper, a new technology and system for carbon containing wastes is proposed, which comprehensively treats and recycles carbon containing wastes, including solid waste, wastewater, waste gas, etc., using pyrolysis–gasification two-stage-cycle technology. The calculation results indicate that the technical scheme proposed in this article is feasible and can achieve the recycling of intermediate and final products, the efficient and clean utilization of carbon containing waste, and the graded utilization of energy. The clean utilization rate of carbon containing waste can be effectively improved, the energy consumption and cost of separate treatments can be reduced, and zero waste emissions can be completely achieved by the comprehensive pyrolysis–gasification two-stage-cycle treatment and resource utilization technology, which is one of the preferred solutions for future resource-saving societies. Aquaculture is increasing globally, providing protein to a growing population, but little is known regarding the nutrient budgets in aquaculture. To obtain insight into how management practices impact nutrient fluxes in freshwater aquaculture earthen ponds worldwide, we conducted a literature review. Our literature search yielded 23 papers in which nutrient budgets were reported. Our results showed that the main nutrient inputs are inlet water, feed, and fertilizers, but they varied according to location and management practices. Overall, feed and fertilizers constituted the predominant nutrient sources, accounting for up to 99% of the total inputs. The most quantified outputs were outlet water, fish, and sedimentation. Our findings indicate that only up to 20% of carbon, 45% of nitrogen, and 60% of phosphorus are assimilated by the fish. In some systems, up to 80% of carbon, 80% of nitrogen, and 60% of phosphorus accumulate in pond bottoms; in other systems, the outflow represents substantial losses of up to 16% of carbon, 76% of nitrogen, and 55% of phosphorus. More insight into nutrients' fate in fishponds is crucial from a sustainability perspective, as feed and fertilizer use can likely be optimized, reducing operational costs and the potential impact on the surrounding environment and atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations. Technical progress has a tremendous potential to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by reducing energy consumption, a major concern across production units. However, the existing empirical literature concerning technical efficiency and carbon intensity is scanty. Thus, this paper examines the relationship between technical efficiency and carbon intensity for the organized manufacturing sector of two states, Maharashtra and Odisha, and the all-India level from 2001 to 2018. The paper uses data envelopment analysis to estimate technical efficiency scores. It applies the 2006 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Tier 1 methodology for estimating carbon intensity for each 3-digit manufacturing industry in all three sample cases. The study has used static panel regression and fractional logit regression techniques to examine the deterministic relationship between technical efficiency and carbon intensity. The result shows that technical efficiency is highly sensitive to carbon intensity in the Indian manufacturing industries. The findings also addressed that the size of the industries also reduces the technical performance of manufacturing units. This paper also confirmed that increased profit could boost the Indian manufacturing industries' technical efficiency. Thus, this study addresses that carbon intensity as a proxy for the manufacturing sector's potential to affect climate change plays a crucial role in explaining the technical efficiency variations across industries. The power sector is one of the major CO2-emitting industries in China. It is also the first key emissions control industry included in China's national carbon trading market established in 2021. Therefore, based on the data of 30 provinces and cities in China from 2015 to 2022, this study analyzes the impact of the national carbon market policy on the carbon emissions of the power industry based on the generalized Difference-in-Difference (DID) model. Based on the method of text analysis, this paper constructs the carbon market policy intensity index of each region and incorporates it into the DID model. Empirical analysis finds that the national carbon market policy can significantly inhibit the carbon emissions of the power industry. However, the heterogeneity analysis of 30 provinces and cities shows that the national carbon market policy has a significant impact on the regions that already have a carbon pilot, but not on the non-pilot regions. Therefore, this paper demonstrates the effectiveness of the national carbon market policy in the power industry emissions control, and also exposes the heterogeneity between regions, providing an important empirical basis for the inclusion of other energy-intensive industries. The power industry's low carbon transition is pivotal for achieving carbon reduction and sustainable development. This study uses the super epsilon-based measurement (Super-EBM) model and the Malmquist index to evaluate the power industry's low carbon transition efficiency using data from 30 provinces in China from 2010 to 2020, and utilizes the Tobit model to comprehensively analyze the factors affecting the low carbon transition of power industry. In addition, this paper examines the spatial differences in the power industry's low carbon transition efficiency as well as its distributional characteristics and dynamic evolutionary patterns. Conclusion is drawn as follows this paper analyzes the regional differences, spatial distribution characteristics and dynamic evolutionary trends of the power industry's low carbon transition. The main conclusions are as follows: (1) The power industry's low carbon transition efficiency in China shows an uptrend, with the western China region having the highest overall level of efficiency, greater fluctuations in the central China region, and more stability in the eastern China region, technological progress is a central factor in increasing total factor productivity, the efficiency of the power industry's low carbon transition is positively influenced by the electricity prices, and negatively influenced by the energy structure, environmental regulations and economic structure; (2) the Intraregional differences and hypervariable density are the main reasons sources of the overall differences in the efficiency of the power industry's low carbon transition; Intraregional differences in the eastern, central, and western China regions are decreasing year by year, but the efficiency of the power industry's low carbon transition in the western China region is still distributed in a multipolar way; (3) The dynamic evolutionary trends of the efficiency distribution of the low carbon transition in power industry is influenced by the type of spatial lag in the neighboring area. Where areas with low efficiency makes it difficult to achieve short-term leapfrog development, and areas with a cluster of high-efficiency provinces are prone to "Siphon Effect". In city-integrated energy systems containing electric–thermal multi-energy sources, the uncertainty of renewable energy sources and the fluctuation of loads challenge the safe, efficient, economic and stable operation of the integrated energy systems. This paper introduces a novel approach for the operation of a carbon capture plant/CHP with PV accommodation within a city-integrated energy system. The proposed strategy aims to maximize the utilization of photovoltaic (PV) power generation and carbon capture equipment, addressing issues related to small-scale CHP climbing constraints and short-term output regulation. Additionally, this paper presents a multi-timescale optimal scheduling strategy, which effectively addresses deviations caused by PV fluctuations and load changes. This was achieved through a detailed analysis of the CHP climbing constraints, carbon capture equipment operation and real-time characteristics of PV power generation. This paper introduces a fully distributed neural dynamics-based optimization algorithm designed to address multi-timescale optimization challenges. Utilizing rolling cycles, this algorithm computes both day-ahead and real-time scheduling outcomes for urban integrated energy systems. Theoretical analyses and numerical simulations were conducted to validate the precision and efficacy of the proposed model and algorithm. Cropping systems are considered the largest source of agricultural GHG emissions. Identifying key categories and factors affecting cropping systems is essential for reducing these emissions. Most studies have focused on the carbon budget of cropping systems from the perspective of a single crop or crop category. Comprehensive studies quantifying the carbon budget of diversified cropping systems, including farmland and garden crops, are still limited. This study aims to fill this gap by quantifying the carbon budget of diversified cropping systems, clarifying their carbon attributes, and identifying key crop categories and influencing factors within different classifications of the system. This study analyzed the carbon budget of a diversified cropping system consisting of 19 crops in Yunnan Province, southwestern China, using a crop-based net greenhouse gas balance methodology based on the "cradle-to-farm" life cycle idea. Crops were categorized into three levels of categories to assess the potential impact of categorization within the cropping system on its carbon balance. Results showed that Yunnan's diversified cropping system is a significant carbon sink, with net sequestration of 33.1 Mt CO 2 eq, total emissions of 37.4 Mt CO 2 eq, and total sequestration of 70.5 Mt CO 2 eq. Cereals, vegetables, and hobby crops were the main contributors to carbon emissions, accounting for 41.61%, 21.87%, and 15.37%, respectively. Cereal crops also made the largest contribution to carbon sequestration at 53.18%. Bananas had the highest emissions per unit area (11.45 t CO 2 eq ha -1 ), while walnuts had the highest sequestration (20.64 t CO 2 eq ha -1 ). In addition, this study highlights effective strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, such as reducing nitrogen fertilizer use, minimizing reactive nitrogen losses, and controlling methane emissions from rice fields. Tumor metastasis and recurrence are closely related to immune escape and hypoxia. Chemodynamic therapy (CDT), photodynamic therapy (PDT), and photothermal therapy (PTT) can induce immunogenic cell death (ICD), and their combination with immune checkpoint agents is a promising therapeutic strategy. Iron based nanomaterials have received more and more attention, but their low Fenton reaction efficiency has hindered their clinical application. In this study, Fe 3 O 4 -carbon dots complex (Fe 3 O 4 -CDs) was synthesized, which was modified with ferrocenedicarboxylic acid by amide bond, and crosslinked into Fe 3 O 4 -CDs@Fc nano complex. The CDs catalyzed the Fenton reaction activity of Fe 3 O 4 by helping to improve the electron transfer efficiency, extended the reaction pH condition to 7.4. The Fe 3 O 4 -CDs@Fc exhibit exceptional optical activity, achieving a thermal conversion efficiency of 56.43 % under 808 nm light and a photosensitive single-line state oxygen quantum yield of 33 % under 660 nm light. Fe 3 O 4 -CDs@Fc improved intracellular oxygen level and inhibited hypoxia-inducing factor (HIF-1α) by in-situ oxygen production based on Fenton reaction. The multimodal combination of Fe 3 O 4 -CDs@Fc (CDT/PDT/PTT) strongly induced immune cell death (ICD). The expression of immune-related protein and HIF-1α was investigated by immunofluorescence method. In vivo, Fe 3 O 4 -CDs@Fc combined with immune checkpoint blocker (antibody PD-L1, αPD-L1) effectively ablated primary tumors and inhibited distal tumor growth. The capacitive immunosensor, known for its label-free simplicity, has great potential for point-of-care diagnostics. However, the interaction between insulation and recognition layers on the sensing electrode greatly affects its performance. This study introduces a pioneering dual-layer strategy, implementing a novel combination of acrylic resin (AR) and nitrocellulose (NC) coatings on screen-printed carbon electrodes (SPCEs). This innovative approach not only enhances the dielectric properties of the capacitive sensor but also streamlines the immobilization of recognizing elements. Particularly noteworthy is the superior reliability and insulation offered by the AR coating, surpassing the limitations of traditional self-assembled monolayer (SAM) modifications. This dual-layer methodology establishes a robust foundation for constructing capacitive sensors optimized specifically for liquid medium-based biosensing applications. The NC coating in this study represents a breakthrough in effectively immobilizing BSA, unraveling the capacitive response intricately linked to the quantity of adsorbed recognizing elements. The results underscore the prowess of the proposed immunosensor, showcasing a meticulously defined linear calibration curve for anti-BSA (ranging from 0 to 25 μg/ml). Additionally, specific interactions with anti-HAS and anti-TNF-α further validate the versatility and efficacy of the developed immunosensor. The efficient use of livestock and poultry manure waste has become a global challenge, with microorganisms playing an important role. To investigate the impact of novel ammonifying microorganism cultures (NAMC) on microbial community dynamics and carbon and nitrogen metabolism, five treatments [5% (v/w) sterilized distilled water, Amm-1, Amm-2, Amm-3, and Amm-4] were applied to cow manure compost. Inoculation with NAMC improved the structure of bacterial and fungal communities, enriched the populations of the functional microorganisms, enhanced the role of specific microorganisms, and promoted the formation of tight modularity within the microbial network. Further functional predictions indicated a significant increase in both carbon metabolism (CMB) and nitrogen metabolism (NMB). During the thermophilic phase, inoculated NAMC treatments boosted carbon metabolism annotation by 10.55%-33.87% and nitrogen metabolism annotation by 26.69%-63.11. Structural equation modeling supported the NAMC-mediated enhancement of NMB and CMB. In conclusion, NAMC inoculation, particularly with Amm-4, enhanced the synergistic interaction between bacteria and fungi. This collaboration promoted enzymatic catabolic and synthetic processes, resultng in positive feedback loops with the endogenous microbial community. Understanding the cytotoxicity of fluorescent carbon dots (CDs) is crucial for their applications, and various biochemical assays have been used to study the effects of CDs on cells. Knowledge on the effects of CDs from a biophysical perspective is integral to the recognition of their cytotoxicity, however the related information is very limited. Here, we report that atomic force microscopy (AFM) can be used as an effective tool for studying the effects of CDs on cells from the biophysical perspective. We achieve this by integrating AFM-based nanomechanics with AFM-based imaging. We demonstrate the performance of this method by measuring the influence of CDs on living human neuroblastoma (SH-SY5Y) cells at the single-cell level. We find that high-dose CDs can mechanically induce elevated normalized hysteresis (energy dissipation during the cell deformation) and structurally impair actin skeleton. The nanomechanical change highly correlates with the alteration of actin filaments, indicating that CDs-induced changes in SH-SY5Y cells are revealed in-depth from the AFM-based biophysical aspect. We validate the reliability of the biophysical observations using conventional biological methods including cell viability test, fluorescent microscopy, and western blot assay. A key challenge to enhance the therapeutic outcome of photothermal therapy (PTT) is to improve the efficiency of passive targeted accumulation of photothermal agents at tumor sites. Carbon dots (CDs) are an ideal choice for application as photothermal agents because of their advantages such as adjustable fluorescence, high photothermal conversion efficiency, and excellent biocompatibility. Here, we synthesized polylysine-modified near-infrared (NIR)-emitting CDs assemblies (plys-CDs) through post-solvothermal reaction of NIR-emitting CDs with polylysine. The encapsulated structure of plys-CDs was confirmed by determining morphological, chemical, and luminescent properties. The particle size of CDs increased to approximately 40 ± 8 nm after polylysine modification and was within the size range appropriate for achieving superior enhanced permeability and retention effect. Plys-CDs maintained a high photothermal conversion efficiency of 54.9 %, coupled with increased tumor site accumulation, leading to a high efficacy in tumor PTT. Currently, plastic waste and antibiotic wastewater are two of the most critical environmental problems, calling for urgent measures to take. A waste-to-wealth strategy for the conversion of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic bottles into value-added materials such as carbon composite is highly recommended to clean wastewater contaminated by antibiotics. Inspired by this idea, we develop a novel PET-AC-ZFO composite by incorporating PET plastic-derived KOH-activated carbon (AC) with ZnFe 2 O 4 (ZFO) particles for adsorptive removal of tetracycline (TTC). PET-derived carbon (PET-C), KOH-activated PET-derived carbon (PET-AC), and PET-AC-ZFO were characterized using physicochemical analyses. Central composite design (CCD) was used to obtain a quadratic model by TTC concentration (K), adsorbent dosage (L), and pH (M). PET-AC-ZFO possessed micropores (d ≈ 2 nm) and exceptionally high surface area of 1110 m 2  g -1 . Nearly 90% TTC could be removed by PET-AC-ZFO composite. Bangham kinetic and Langmuir isotherm were two most fitted models. Theoretical maximum TTC adsorption capacity was 45.1 mg g -1 . This study suggested the role of hydrogen bonds, pore-filling interactions, and π-π interactions as the main interactions of the adsorption process. Electro-Fenton (EF) can in-situ produce H 2 O 2 and effectively activate H 2 O 2 to generate powerful reactive species for the destruction of contaminants under acidic conditions, however, the production of iron-containing sludge and requirement of low working pH significantly hinder its practical application. Herein, a novel Cu, N co-doped carbon (Cu-N@C) with metal organic framework (MOF) as a precursor was constructed and adopted for the elimination of pefloxacin (PEF) in the heterogeneous electro-Fenton (HEF) process. PEF could be almost completely removed within 1 h and total organic carbon (TOC) removal efficiency was 48.57% within 6 h. Meanwhile, Cu-N@C had good repeatability and environmental adaptability, it can still maintain excellent catalytic performance after 10 cycles, and it exhibited satisfactory remediation performance in simulated water matrix. In addition, the HEF process catalyzed by Cu-N@C also showed satisfactory degradation effect on other organic pollutants including atrazine, methylene blue, and chlorotetracycline. Under the action of impressed current, the HEF system could generate H 2 O 2 in-situ, and the active species could be generated in the redox cycle of Cu 0 /Cu 1+ /Cu 2+ . Electron paramagnetic resonance and quenching experiments confirmed that •OH was the dominant active species in the degradation of organic compounds. The degradation process of PEF was studied by mass spectrometry analysis of intermediate products. This research paper introduces a novel approach by combining a Backpropagation (BP) neural network with a non-angular and non-radial directional distance function to construct a BPNN-DDF model. This innovative model evaluates, decomposes, and analyzes China's agricultural sector's carbon emission rate across nine key subregions between 2010 and 2021. The key findings of this study are that China's agricultural carbon emission rate is decreasing, primarily due to technological advancements rather than technological efficiency. Subregions with robust economies and stable climates exhibit higher carbon emission efficiency, whereas those with underdeveloped economies, low agricultural technology, and volatile climates show relatively lower efficiency. The Dagum Gini coefficient analysis reveals a widening disparity in carbon emission rates among agricultural subregions, escalating from 0.174 in 2010 to 0.425 in 2021, indicating a growing gap between subregions that demands immediate attention. The kernel density distribution demonstrates an overall upward trend in China's carbon emission efficiency but also highlights an increasing divergence among subregions, particularly between the South China Area, the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain, and other regions. Biobanks have become an integral part of health and bioscience research. However, the ultra-low temperature (ULT) storage methods that biobanks employ [ULT freezers and liquid nitrogen (LN2)] are associated with carbon emissions that contribute to anthropogenic climate change. This paper aims to provide a 'Roadmap' for reducing carbon emissions associated with ULT storage in biobanking. The Roadmap offers recommendations associated with nine areas of ULT storage practice: four relating to ULT freezers, three associated with LN2 storage, and two generalised discussions regarding biosample management and centralisation. For each practice, we describe (a) the best approaches to mitigate carbon emissions, (b) explore barriers associated with hindering their implementation, and (c) make a series of recommendations that can help biobank stakeholders overcome these barriers. The recommendations were the output of a one year, UK-based, multidisciplinary research project that involved a quantitative Carbon Footprinting Assessment of the emissions associated with 1 year of ULT storage (for both freezers and LN2) at four different case study sites; as well as two follow up stakeholder workshops to qualitatively explore UK biobank stakeholder perceptions, views, and experiences on how to consider such assessments within the broader social, political, financial, technical, and cultural contexts of biobanking., (© 2024. Improving carbon emission efficiency of manufacturing is important for promoting low-carbon development and achieving harmonious coexistence between humans and nature. In this study, we use the Global-MinDS model to measure the carbon emission efficiency of China's provincial manufacturing from 2011 to 2020. To do so, we construct a mathematical model to analyze the mechanism of the interaction among internet development, market integration, and carbon emission efficiency of manufacturing. Then, we empirically examine the carbon emission reduction effect of internet development using the Bartik instrument variable method and verify the significance of market integration. Our results show that internet development can significantly improve the carbon emission efficiency of manufacturing, promoting manufacturing low-carbon transformation. Carbon emission reduction effect of internet development is characterized by heterogeneity in market integration, environmental regulation, and policy intensity. This means that the impact of internet development is more pronounced in lower integration regions, higher environmental regulation intensity and in big data comprehensive experimental zone. Intermediate mechanism tests show that internet development can promote market integration by reducing external transaction costs, so as to play a carbon emission reduction effect in the market mechanism. The carbon emissions trading (CET) policy internalises the cost of carbon emission reductions borne by companies, which will affect the companies' investment and management decisions. From a micro perspective, this paper analyzes the impact on company investment expenditure and its transmission mechanism by implementing the CET policy. Based on panel data of China's A-share listed companies from eight carbon-intensive industries spanning 2010 to 2020, the time-varying difference-in-difference model and its extended model are used to evaluate the impact of the policy in the pilot areas. The results show that: first, based on the cost effect and legality theories, CET policy can reduce the investment expenditure of the companies by 71.95%. Second, CET policy reduces corporate investment expenditures by increasing corporate debt financing costs. When debt financing costs increase by 120.25%, the investment expenditures will reduce by 2.56% indirectly while the intermediary effect of equity financing costs is not significant. Finally, with the implementation of CET policy, the inhibitory effect on corporate investment expenditures has gradually increased. CET policy has a more significant inhibitory effect on investment expenditures of nonstate-owned companies and small-scale companies. Coastal wetlands possess significant carbon storage capabilities. However, in coastal soil-plant systems augmented with biochar and microorganisms, the mechanisms of these amendments and carbon participation remain unclear. This study utilized pot experiments to explore how Enteromorpha prolifera biochar and Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) affect soil organic carbon (SOC), carbon-related microbes, photosynthetic and osmotic system of Suaeda salsa. The results showed biochar reduced exchangeable sodium percentage by 6.9% through adsorption and ion exchange, and increased SOC content by 34.4%. The abundance of carbon-related microorganisms (Bacteroidota and Chloroflexi) was increased and carbon metabolizing enzyme (cellulase and sucrase) activity in the soil was enhanced. AMF significantly improved plant growth compared with CK, as evidenced by the enhanced dry weight by 2.34 times. A partial least squares pathway model (PLS-PM) and correlation analysis suggested that the combined effect of biochar and AMF could be outlined as two pathways: soil and plant. Biochar increased SOC, improved the growth of soil carbon metabolizing microorganisms, and further promoted the activity of carbon-related enzymes. Additionally, AMF facilitated nutrient absorption by plants through root symbiosis, with biochar further enhancing this process by acting as a nutrient adsorber. These combined effects of biochar and AMF at soil and plant level enhanced the photosynthetic process of Suaeda salsa. The transport of photosynthetic products to the roots can increase the carbon storage in the soil. Due to the extensive application of pesticides and their hazardous effects on organisms, there is an urgent need to remove them effectively from wastewater. Metal-incorporated carbon-mineral composites (Ni/Mn-CMC and Ni/Fe-CMC) described in this paper can certainly be applied for this purpose. They were synthesized by combining mechanochemical and pyrolytic processes and their physicochemical properties were investigated using numerous methods (SEM-EDS, N 2 adsorption/desorption, XRD, surface charge, FTIR). Adsorption capacity towards diuron and carboxin with and without impurities commonly detected in natural ecosystems, cadmium ions or arsenite, was measured. The obtained results indicated that Ni/Fe-CMC is more efficient adsorbent of pesticides due to its well-developed surface. It was able to bind 158.34 mg g -1 of diuron and 133.58 mg g -1 of carboxin in the solutions, where only one pesticide was present. In turn, these values for the Ni/Mn-CMC sample were 126.49 mg g -1 and 102.08 mg g -1 , respectively. It should be noted that the composites maintained their high adsorption capacity in the multicomponent solutions, i.e., containing both pesticide and metal ions. Then, the maximum reduction in pesticide adsorption was only 8.36. Ni/Mn-CMC and Ni/Fe-CMC were successfully regenerated with ethanol without changing their structure and adsorption capacity. Also, the extracts from investigated materials did not have negative impact on plant growth. Given the increasing threat of economic downturns and global warming, the governments of developing countries urgently need effective measures that can both stimulate economic development and promote low-carbon transitions. As a widely accepted method for stimulating economic growth, the improvement of the business environment and its effect on economic activity have been fully discussed. However, little is known about whether and how the business environment affects the low-carbon transition. By leveraging city-level data from China, this paper exploits whether and through which channels a favorable business environment promotes a low-carbon transition. We find that improving the business environment has a positive impact on carbon efficiency. This relationship is verified to be robust through various alternative tests. Additionally, it is demonstrated that enhancing the business environment can increase carbon efficiency by promoting green technology progress and stimulating new firm entry. Heterogeneity analysis indicates that the positive effect of the business environment is pronounced for cities with intensive environmental regulation, sufficient environmentally targeted fiscal expenditure, and loose economic growth requirements. This paper introduces an energy transition model featuring a carbon-intensive manufacturer that adopts sustainable insurance, participates in a cap-and-trade scheme, and implements carbon capture and storage (CCS) transit, all aimed at achieving the net-zero carbon emission target. The model utilizes a down-and-out call (DOC) approach to evaluate the manufacturer's equity, considering the bankruptcy risk prior to maturity due to carbon intensity. The equity of the life insurer providing funds is assessed using a capped DOC method to address the capped credit risk from the manufacturer. The findings reveal that increased adoption of CCS transit diminishes manufacturer equity, heightens default risk, and reduces insurer equity, with these effects exacerbated by advanced CCS technology and stringent cap-and-trade caps. Both stringent cap-and-trade schemes and rapid advancements in CCS transit practices, particularly with the use of advanced CCS technology, deviate from the net-zero target. Promoting the green development of the logistics industry has become a focal point of attention in China. This study combines an improved gravity model and social network analysis method, focusing on the nineteen provinces of the Yangtze Economic Belt and Yellow River Basin. It constructs a spatial correlation network of carbon emissions in the logistics industry from 2010 to 2021, exploring its formation mechanism and spatial evolution characteristics. The study utilizes a quadratic assignment procedure model to investigate internal driving factors. Building upon this, the study employs an improved STIRPAT model to predict the emission reduction path of the future logistics industry. Results are as follows: (1) Carbon consumption is most pronounced in Shandong, Jiangsu, and Shanghai. The carbon emission shows the characteristics of larger downstream; (2) The bridges of carbon emission-related networks gradually shift from Shandong to Shanxi, Anhui, and Sichuan. Carbon emissions in each sector and spatial spillover effects exhibit dynamic correlations and interactive influences; (3) Energy intensity, freight volume, and the spatial correlation network of the logistics industry are highly correlated; (4) The overall carbon emissions from the logistics industry show a decreasing trend in the future. Anhui and Shaanxi provinces will have high carbon emissions in 2035. Coarse textured soils have low potential to store carbon (C) due to lack of mineral oxides and have low clay content to protect C from biodegradation and leaching. This study evaluated the potential of stabilizing C by adding metal oxyhydroxide-rich water treatment residuals (WTRs) to an aeolian pure sand (<5% clay) topsoil amended with anaerobic digestate (AD) sludge. The AD sludge was applied at 5% (w/w) with aluminum based WTR (Al-WTR) and iron based WTR (Fe-WTR) co-applied at 1:1 and 2:1 WTR:AD (w/w) ratios and incubated at room temperature for 132 days. The cumulative mineralized C was normalized to the total organic C of the treatments. Co-addition with Al-WTR showed to be more effective in stabilizing C through decreased cumulative mineralized C by 48% and 57% in 1Al-WTR:1AD and 2Al-WTR:1AD, respectively, compared to AD sludge sole amendment. Co-application with Al-WTR also decreased permanganate oxidizable C by 37% and dissolved organic C by 51%. Co-application with Fe-WTR did not decrease the concentration of these labile C pools to the same extent, possibly due to the selective use of Fe-WTRs to treat organic-rich raw water. This makes it less effective in stabilizing C in a pure sand relative to Al-WTR due to chemical instability of the Fe-organic complexes. The Al-WTR provides a promising co-amendment to increase C sequestration in pure sands when co-applied with biosolids. The dune ecosystem plays a significant role in the global carbon cycle. The Horqin Sandy Land is a typical semi-arid fragile ecosystem in northern China. Understanding the magnitudes and dynamics of carbon dioxide fluxes within this region is essential for understanding the carbon balance. Used 6 years (2013-2018) measurements from an eddy-covariance system, we analyzed the dynamic patterns of net ecosystem carbon exchange (NEE), gross primary production (GPP), and ecosystem respiration (Reco) of the dune ecosystem in Horqin Sandy Land and examined their responses to climate factors with a focus on the precipitation. The results showed that the NEE of the dune ecosystem fluctuated from -166 to 100 gCO 2 ·m -2 ·year -1 across the 6 growing seasons, with an average of -56 gCO 2 ·m -2 ·year -1 . The precipitation was not a key factor influencing the carbon flux variability. During the mid-growth stage, GPP was primarily affected by the effective precipitation frequency (R 2 ranging from 0.65 to 0.85, P < 0.05), followed by fractional vegetation cover (R 2 ranging from 0.65 to 0.68, P < 0.05). However, in the early and late growth stages, temperature predominantly drove the carbon flux (R 2  = 0.75, P < 0.01). The interannual variability of carbon flux can be predominantly elucidated by phenological indicators such as CO 2 uptake (CU start ), end of CO 2 uptake (CU end ), CO 2 uptake period (CUP), and Spring lag. The results demonstrated the dune ecosystem is a weak carbon sink in semi-arid ecosystems. Furthermore, we emphasized the significance of effective precipitation frequency in regulating carbon fluxes. The inefficiency of catalysts in sulfate radical-based advanced oxidation processes (SR-AOPs) is primarily attributed to the sluggish circulation of redox couples. Herein, a carbon defects-enriched NBC-C 3 N 5 @CoMn (NCC) was synthesized through a self-assembly approach. The carbon defects within the NCC induce the electron trap effect, thereby facilitating the efficient cycling of redox couples in photo-Fenton-like processes during contaminant degradation. This effect enables the self-regeneration of the NCC catalyst. The reductive redox couples (Co (II) and Mn (II)) are continuously regenerated following the degradation process. Within the NCC, CoMn layered double hydroxides (LDHs) act as primary active sites, promoting the generation of hydroxyl radicals (•OH), sulfate radicals (SO 4 •- ) and singlet oxygen ( 1 ) through continuous electron gain and loss. Additionally, the internal electric field established within the NCC further accelerates electron transfer. Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations confirm that the carbon defects-enriched NCC exhibits lower adsorption energies and higher electron transfer efficiencies than carbon defect-deficient NCC. The limited availability of carbon sources in low carbon source wastewater has always hindered nitrogen removal efficiency. The residual slurry liquid after anaerobic digestion has the potential to be used as a carbon source. This study investigated the optimal parameters of dissolved oxygen (DO) for enhancing the treatment of low carbon source wastewater using slurry, and revealed the characteristics of carbon metabolism gene enrichment and carbon fixation potential driven by DO. The results indicated that treating wastewater under high DO concentrations (3-4 mg/L) conditions could meet the emission standards set by wastewater treatment plants in China. However, the lower-cost DO concentration of 3 mg/L is considered a more cost-effective parameter, effectively removing 85.68% of chemical oxygen demand and 91.56% of total nitrogen. Mechanistic analysis suggested that reducing DO concentration increased the diversity of microbial communities. Regulating DO concentration reshaped the co-metabolic network of microorganisms with different DO sensitivities by influencing Hydrogenophaga and Chlorobium. This ultimately led to the reconstruction of heterotrophic microbial communities dominated by Sphaerotilus and Acidovorax under high DO conditions, and heterotrophic-autotrophic co-enriched microbial communities dominated by Chlorobium under low DO conditions (1-2 mg/L). Additionally, under high DO conditions, high microbial mass transfer efficiency and the enrichment of functional genes were crucial for achieving high nitrogen removal performance. Further, the microbial carbon fixation potential was relatively high under the DO 3 mg/L condition, helping to reduce the consumption of additional carbon sources. To clarify the impacts of tidal hydrological process shifts caused by sea level rise on the blue carbon cycle, a typical coastal wetland in Jiaozhou Bay was selected for this study. The soils of Suaeda salsa (SS) and Phragmites australis (PA) wetlands were collected to simulate the effects of three types of tidal hydrological processes (Neap tide group, NT; Middle tide group, MT; Spring tide group, ST) on the soil-water dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) dynamic. The results showed that the concentration of water dissolved inorganic carbon (WDIC) increased rapidly (115% higher) at early stage (days 0-4) under the influence of the tidal hydrological processes. Significant differences were found in WDIC concentration during different tidal hydrological processes (P < 0.05), which were expressed as MT (52.7 ± 13.3 mg L -1 ) > ST (52.5 ± 12.9 mg L -1 ) > NT (48.4 ± 10.1 mg L -1 ). After experiencing the tidal hydrological processes, the soil DIC content showed a net accumulation (55.1 ± 1.29 mg L -1 vs. 46.7 ± 1.76 mg L -1 , P < 0.001), whereas the soil inorganic carbon (SIC) decreased (2.73 ± 1.64 mg L -1 vs. 4.61 ± 1.71 mg L -1 ), which may be attributed to the dissolution of SIC caused by the uptake of CO 2 to form DIC. The accumulation of soil DIC was directly related to the SIC (λ = 1.03, P < 0.01), and indirectly related to soil nutrients (SOC substrate, λ = -0.003) and microbes (microbial biomass, λ = -0.10), and was mainly dominated by abiotic processes (abiotic: 58.1 ± 1.8% to 82.7 ± 2.46% vs. biotic: 17.4 ± 2.46% to 41.9 ± 1.76%). The increase of tidal frequency generally inhibited the accumulation of soil DIC content and promoted the output of WDIC. However, the response of soil DIC in different wetland types to tidal frequency was divergent, which was mainly regulated by the trade-off between soil nutrients and SIC content. Taken together, tidal hydrological processes and their frequency changes reshaped DIC dynamics, promoted the dissolution of SIC and the potential uptake of CO 2 . While studies have theoretically discussed the impact of carbon pricing on renewable energy, the practical implementation and effectiveness of these policies remain uncertain. This study empirically examines the role of carbon emissions trading and carbon tax in global renewable energy development using panel data from 196 countries and regions and employing the staggered difference-in-differences (DID) model and Bacon decomposition method. The results suggest that: (1) From the perspective of policy shocks, carbon trading has increased non-hydro renewable electricity generation by 73.32%, while carbon tax has increased it by 31.79%. This indicates that the overall impact of carbon trading on renewable energy is greater than that of carbon tax. However, the elasticity coefficients of renewable energy to carbon trading prices and carbon tax rates are 0.1801 and 0.1845, respectively, suggesting a slightly greater marginal effect of carbon tax on renewable energy compared to carbon trading. (2) Both carbon tax and carbon trading have mitigated the growth of fossil electricity and encouraged public investment in renewable energy, thereby fostering its development. (3) The influence of carbon pricing on renewable energy varies by income level; notably, the implementation of these policies in high-income countries has diminished their promotional effect on renewable energy. (4) The contribution of technological innovation to renewable energy development is smaller than that of policies including carbon trading and carbon tax, indicating that renewable energy development during the sample period was predominantly driven by policy measures. In addressing the ramifications of climate change, the shipping industry, reliant on energy, has been integrated into the Emissions Trading System (ETS). This study utilizes the quantile connectedness model to investigate the information spillover mechanisms and extreme time-varying interconnections among carbon, energy, and shipping markets. Whether climate policy uncertainty drives the extreme interconnections is also discussed during both pre- and post-Paris Agreement periods, by using GARCH-MIDAS model. The empirical findings underscore the following key points: (i) the systemic connectedness is highly sensitive to market conditions and major events, increasing significantly under extreme market conditions; (ii) following the implementation of the Paris Agreement, an elevated level of informational interdependence has manifested between the carbon market and the energy and shipping sectors; (iii) the information transfer mechanism between carbon and shipping sectors creates direct and indirect spillover paths, with crude oil market mediating the indirect path; (iv) climate policy uncertainty greatly affects the extreme time-varying interconnections, and this impact has decreased after the Paris Agreement came into effect. The total organic carbon (OC) from plant litter in riparian zones is an important nutrient source for aquatic organisms and plays a crucial role in the nutrient cycling of river ecosystems. Nevertheless, the total amount of OC in dammed rivers gradually decreases, and the restoration methods are rarely researched. A hypothesis was proposed that the periodic inundation altered the process of OC release from plant litter. To explore the impact of periodic inundation on OC release from litter in the riparian zone, litter bags in situ tests were conducted in the Yalong River. Three inundation treatments were conducted for the test samples, which were NS (never submerged by water), PIS (periodic submerged), and PMS (permanent submerged). Results indicated that the amount of OC released from litters in PIS treatment was about 1.1 times that in PMS treatment, and about 2.1 times that in NS treatment. The average release rate coefficient k of PIS treatment (at mean water level) was the highest (12.8 × 10 -4  d -1 ), followed by PMS treatment (11.0 × 10 -4  d -1 ), and NS treatment (5.6 × 10 -4  d -1 ), which demonstrated that the periodic inundation was critical for OC release. The mean water level was a demarcation line where there was a significant difference in the release of OC in the riparian zone (p < 0.05). Flow velocity alone could account for 84% of the variation in OC release rate, while the flow velocity and inundation duration together could achieve an explanatory degree of 86%. Heavy metals (HMs) contained terrestrial ecosystems are often significantly display the antibiotic resistome in the pristine area due to increasing pressure from anthropogenic activity, is complex and emerging research interest. This study investigated that impact of chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), cobalt (Co) concentrations in serpentine soil on the induction of antibiotic resistance genes and antimicrobial resistance within the native bacterial community as well as demonstrated their metabolic fingerprint. The full-length 16S-rRNA amplicon sequencing observed an increased abundance of Firmicutes, Actinobacteriota, and Acidobacteriota in serpentine soil. The microbial community in serpentine soil displayed varying preferences for different carbon sources, with some, such as carbohydrates and carboxylic acids, being consistently favored. Notably, 27 potential antibiotic resistance opportunistic bacterial genera have been identified in different serpentine soils. Among these, Lapillicoccus, Rubrobacter, Lacibacter, Chloroplast, Nitrospira, Rokubacteriales, Acinetobacter, Pseudomonas were significantly enriched in high and medium HMs concentrated serpentine soil samples. Functional profiling results illustrated that vancomycin resistance pathways were prevalent across all groups. Additionally, beta-lactamase, aminoglycoside, tetracycline, and vancomycin resistance involving specific bio-maker genes (ampC, penP, OXA, aacA, strB, hyg, aph, tet(A/B), otr(C), tet(M/O/Q), van(A/B/D), and vanJ) were the most abundant and enriched in the HMs-contaminated serpentine soil. Regions can meet their development demands through trade, with the attendant environmental costs being shifted to other regions, and carbon emissions emitted from different industries could be transferred over long distances through the increasingly diversified trade network. However, it remains unclear how regional trade leads to the tele-connection and transfer of embodied carbon emissions form industries, and what is the structure and characteristics of the transfer. Thus, multiregional input‒output models and complex network analysis are employed to reveal the tele-connection of carbon emissions from industries in China. The results show that embodied carbon emissions from trade increased by 869.47 million tons during in five years, with North China being the largest outflow area, while the coastal regions being the inflow areas. Moreover, the secondary industry is the highest source of embodied carbon emissions, accounting for 96.68 % of the volume, and the transfer of carbon emissions mainly occurs in North and East China. In carbon emissions networks, North China holds a controlling position, as analysed by degree and strength. The first 23.3%-30% of nodes carry about 62.6%-72.4% of the entire carbon emissions flow, and the network conforms to scale-free features. Centrality further reveals that northern and coastal areas occupy core positions, with interregional carbon flows dominating the critical pathways in the network. The number of clusters evolved from three to four communities during 2012-2017 in the network, demonstrating that the carbon flow network is developing towards multipolarity and modularity. Global economic integration and environmental issues have attracted widespread attention in recent years. As one of the world's most significant free trade agreements, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) significantly impacts trade and the environment. However, research on the relationship between trade costs and carbon emissions still needs to be completed. This study explores the relationship between trade costs and carbon emissions within the framework of the Trade Benefit Theory, which posits that trade liberalization and openness generate economic benefits through increased efficiency, technological advancement, and economic growth. This study analyzes panel data from 12 RCEP countries from 2001 to 2014, employing static and dynamic panel models to examine the relationship between trade costs and carbon emissions. The analysis utilizes mixed regression, fixed (random) effects models, and the systematic GMM method. The results indicate that decreases in trade costs are associated with reduced environmental pollution, aligning with the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis, which posits an N-shaped relationship between trade costs and carbon emissions. Implementing RCEP facilitates a decrease in trade-related pollution, suggesting that reducing trade costs can help mitigate environmental pollution. From the perspective of innovation motivation, low-carbon innovation is divided into substantive low-carbon innovation and strategic low-carbon innovation. On this basis, this study empirically investigates the impact and mechanism of digital transformation on enterprise low-carbon innovation using data from China's A-share listed enterprises from 2005 to 2019. The results show that digital transformation promotes the overall level of enterprise low-carbon innovation, substantial low-carbon innovation, and strategic low-carbon innovation, with a more significant impact on strategic low-carbon innovation. For enterprises with large-scale, belonging to high-monopoly industries and located in high-marketization regions, the promotion of digital transformation is more significant and facilitates strategic low-carbon innovation more than substantive low-carbon innovation. Vietnam's government is considering introducing a carbon market as part of its decarbonization strategy. The carbon tax is an option for the government to regulate greenhouse gas emissions. We evaluate the potential macroeconomic and climate impacts of carbon tax policy in Vietnam using a unique data set and simulation analysis with a multi-sector dynamic computable general equilibrium model. The model allows for firm heterogeneity: domestic firms and foreign-invested enterprises. The results show that with plausible tax rates, emissions can be reduced to levels 1.3-2.8 percent below the target value of emissions in 2030. The cost is a loss in GDP by 1.2-2.7 percent in 2030. The results also show that foreign-invested enterprises tend to increase emissions in the medium run even with a carbon tax while a carbon tax is more effective when applied to domestic firms. Grazing lands play a significant role in global carbon (C) dynamics, holding substantial soil organic carbon (SOC) stocks. However, historical mismanagement (e.g., overgrazing and land-use change) has led to substantial SOC losses. Regenerative practices, such as adaptive multi-paddock (AMP) grazing, offer a promising avenue to improve soil health and help combat climate change by increasing SOC accrual, both in its particulate (POC) and mineral-associated (MAOC) organic C components. Because adaptive grazing patterns emerge from the combination of different levers such as frequency, intensity, and timing of grazing, studying AMP grazing management in experimental trials and representing it in models remains challenging. Existing ecosystem models lack the capacity to predict how different adaptive grazing levers affect SOC storage and its distribution between POC and MAOC and along the soil profile accurately. Therefore, they cannot adequately assist decision-makers in effectively optimizing adaptive practices based on SOC outcomes. Here, we address this critical gap by developing version 2.34 of the MEMS 2 model. This version advances the previous by incorporating perennial grass growth and grazing submodules to simulate grass green-up and dormancy, reserve organ dynamics, the influence of standing dead plant mass on new plant growth, grass and supplemental feed consumption by animals, and their feces and urine input to soil. Using data from grazing experiments in the southeastern United States and experimental SOC data from two conventional and three AMP grazing sites in Mississippi, we tested the capacity of MEMS 2.34 to simulate grass forage production, total SOC, POC, and MAOC dynamics to 1-m depth. Further, we manipulated grazing management levers, i.e., timing, intensity, and frequency, to do a sensitivity analysis of their effects on SOC dynamics in the long term. Our findings indicate that the model can represent bahiagrass forage production (BIAS = 9.51 g C m -2 , RRMSE = 0.27, RMSE = 65.57 g C m -2 , R 2  = 0.72) and accurately captured the dynamics of SOC fractions across sites and depths (0-15 cm: RRMSE = 0.05; 15-100 cm: RRMSE = 1.08-2.07), aligning with patterns observed in the measured data. The model best captured SOC and MAOC stocks across AMP sites in the 0-15 cm layer, while POC was best predicted at-depth. Otherwise, the model tended to overestimate SOC and MAOC below 15 cm, and POC in the topsoil. Our simulations indicate that grazing frequency and intensity were key levers for enhancing SOC stocks compared to the current management baseline, with decreasing grazing intensity yielding the highest SOC after 50 years (63.7-65.9 Mg C ha -1 ). In the era of climate change and carbon neutrality, China is actively coping with its carbon lock-in dilemma. In this context, the development of the digital economy is considered a possible path to carbon unlocking. This study contributes to the literature by providing a comprehensive analysis of how the digital economy can be leveraged to address carbon lock-in, highlighting the importance of formal environmental regulation and informal environmental regulation in enhancing this effect. Accordingly, following findings are highlighted. (1) Our primary findings provide strong evidence on the negative effect of the digital economy on carbon lock-in; by implication, improving the digital economy is an efficient measure for eradicating carbon lock-in. (2) The digital economy shows the greatest marginal impact on industrial lock-in, while its inhibiting effect on behavior lock-in is the least pronounced. Moreover, the digital economy plays a prominent role in curbing carbon lock-in in provinces with a higher level of physical, human, and social capital. And the asymmetric impacts of the digital economy on carbon lock-in are significant at most quantiles. (3) Environmental regulation is a significant moderator. Put differently, the synergy of formal environmental regulation and the digital economy, as well as informal environmental regulation and the digital economy, are important means to break carbon lock-in. Urban areas contribute 85% of China's CO 2 emissions. Green finance is an important means to support green energy development and achieve the low-carbon transformation of high-energy-consuming industries. The motivation of this article is to investigate the impact and mechanism of green finance on urban carbon intensity. Most existing literature uses linear models to investigate urban carbon intensity, ignoring the nonlinear relationships between economic variables. The nonparametric models can fill the inherent shortcomings of linear models and effectively simulate the nonlinear nexus between economic variables. Based on the 2011-2021 panel data of 237 cities in China, this paper applies the nonparametric additive model to survey the influence of green finance on urban carbon intensity. Empirical findings exhibit that green finance exerts an inverted U-shaped effect on urban carbon intensity, indicating that the carbon reduction effect of green finance has gradually shifted from inconspicuous in the early stages to prominent in the later stages. Then, from the perspectives of region, city size, and carbon intensity, this article conducts heterogeneity analysis. The results show that the impact of green finance on various carbon intensities all exhibits obvious nonlinear feature. Furthermore, this article employs a mediation effect model to conduct mechanism analysis. Biosynthesized nanocomposites, particularly those incorporating carbon-based materials, exhibit exceptional tunability and multifunctionality, surpassing the capabilities of conventional materials in these aspects. Developing practical solutions is critical to address environmental toxins from pharmaceuticals, heavy metals, pesticides, and dyes. Biomass waste is a readily available carbon source, which emerges as a promising material for producing biochar due to its inherent advantages: abundance, low cost, and environmentally friendly nature. This distribution mainly uses carbon-based materials (CBMs) and biomass waste in wastewater treatment. This review paper investigates several CBM types, including carbon aerogels, nanotubes, graphene, and activated carbon. The development of bio-derived carbon-based nanomaterials are discussed, along with the properties and composition of carbon materials derived from biomass waste and various cycles, such as photodegradation, adsorption, and high-level oxidation processes for natural remediation. Composting is a biological reaction caused by microorganisms. Composting efficiency can be adequately increased by adding biochar and/or by inoculating with exogenous microorganisms. In this study, we looked at four methods for dewatered sludge waste (DSW) and wheat straw (WS) aerobic co-composting: T1 (no additive), T2 (5% biochar), T3 (5% of a newly isolated strain, Xenophilus azovorans (XPA)), and T4 (5% of biochar-immobilized XPA (BCI-XPA)). Throughout the course of the 42-day composting period, we looked into the carbon dynamics, humification, microbial community succession, and modifications to the driving pathways. Compared to T1 and T2, the addition of XPA (T3) and BCI-XPA (T4) extended the thermophilic phase of composting without negatively affecting compost maturation. Notably, T4 exhibited a higher seed germination index (132.14%). Different from T1 and T2 treatments, T3 and T4 treatments increased CO 2 and CH 4 emissions in the composting process, in which the cumulative CO 2 emissions increased by 18.61-47.16%, and T3 and T4 treatments also promoted the formation of humic acid. Moreover, T4 treatment with BCI-XPA addition showed relatively higher activities of urease, polyphenol oxidase, and laccase, as well as a higher diversity of microorganisms compared to other processes. The Functional Annotation of Prokaryotic Taxa (FAPROTAX) analysis showed that microorganisms involved in the carbon cycle dominated the entire composting process in all treatments, with chemoheterotrophy and aerobic chemoheterotrophy being the main pathways of organic materials degradation. Moreover, the presence of XPA accelerated the breakdown of organic materials by catabolism of aromatic compounds and intracellular parasite pathways. On the other hand, the xylanolysis pathway was aided in the conversion of organic materials to dissolved organics by the addition of BCI-XPA. This study explores the comprehensive effects of green finance (GF) on the low-carbon transition of the energy system (LTES) by analyzing panel data from 281 cities in China from 2006 to 2021. It is found that GF significantly reduces overall energy consumption and exhibits a U-shaped association with energy efficiency, while its relationship with the energy consumption structure is inverted U-shaped. After accounting for endogeneity in the robustness tests, these findings remain consistent and are therefore deemed reliable. A mechanistic analysis reveals that GF promotes industrial upgrading, technological progress, and economic agglomeration, collectively facilitating the LTES. The impact of GF on LTES shows considerable variation among regions, influenced by their levels of economic growth, extents of marketization, and governmental environmental preferences. China and the USA, as preeminent contributors to global carbon emissions, demonstrate discernible differentials in both magnitude and trajectories of their respective carbon outputs. This article employed two methods, Structural Decomposition Analysis (SDA) and Quantitative Structural Modeling, to scrutinize the underpinnings of these disparities through the lens of the global value chain. Drawing upon data from the World Input-Output Database (WIOD), our analysis revealed that the compounded influences of output composition, input intensity, input composition and input origin collectively elevated China's aggregate carbon footprint from 2000 to 2014, while the scale effect made China's carbon emissions lower than of the USA. Notably, China's carbon emissions surpassed those of USA, with the gap accentuating over time. The quantitative results of the structural model showed that the difference in carbon emissions between China and USA predominantly stem from disparities in productivity, production technology, factor intensity, factor endowment and direct carbon intensity. Differences in trade costs exhibited some discernible impact, their influence remains relatively marginal, whereas distinctions in consumption behaviors and trade imbalances minimally contribute to the observed differentials. Digital technology advancement provides a significant impetus to achieve China's "dual-carbon" goals, yet it also gives rise to a series of challenges. Therefore, studying the relationship between digital technology innovation and carbon emission efficiency is of paramount importance. This study theoretically analyzes and empirically tests the influence of digital technology innovation (DTI) on total factor carbon emission efficiency (TFCE) using panel data from 268 Chinese cities between 2006 and 2021. The results indicate that: (1) DTI exhibits a "U-shaped" pattern on urban TFCE, with a decrease followed by an increase. (2) Conventional technological innovation (TI) also displays a "U-shaped" relationship with TFCE, with the turning point occurring earlier than that of DTI. DTI surpasses TI in bringing about later-stage improvements in carbon emission efficiency. (3) Mechanism tests reveal that digital technology innovation indirectly affects TFCE through energy effects, technological effects, structural effects, and regulatory effects. (4) The impact of DTI on urban TFCE varies significantly due to differences in geographical location and resource endowments. (5) The development of urban polycentricity advances the turning point at which DTI enhances TFCE while amplifying both the initial "pro-carbon" effect and the subsequent "carbon reduction" effect of DTI. (6) DTI has a spatial spillover effect on urban TFCE. To advance sustainable and resilient agricultural management policies, especially during land use changes, it is imperative to monitor, report, and verify soil organic carbon (SOC) content rigorously to inform its stock. However, conventional methods often entail challenging, time-consuming, and costly direct soil measurements. Integrating data from long-term experiments (LTEs) with freely available remote sensing (RS) techniques presents exciting prospects for assessing SOC temporal and spatial change. The objective of this study was to develop a low-cost, field-based statistical model that could be used as a decision-making aid to understand the temporal and spatial variation of SOC content in temperate farmland under different land use and management. A ten-year dataset from the North Wyke Farm Platform, a 20-field, LTE system established in southwestern England in 2010, was used as a case study in conjunction with an RS dataset. Linear, additive and mixed regression models were compared for predicting SOC content based upon combinations of environmental variables that are freely accessible (termed open) and those that require direct measurement or farmer questionnaires (termed closed). These included an RS-derived Ecosystem Services Provision Index (ESPI), topography (slope, aspect), weather (temperature, precipitation), soil (soil units, total nitrogen [TN], pH), and field management practices. Additive models (specifically Generalised Additive Models (GAMs)) were found to be the most effective at predicting space-time SOC variability. When the combined open and closed factors (excluding TN) were considered, significant predictors of SOC were: management related to ploughing being the most important predictor, soil unit (class), aspect, and temperature (GAM fit with a normalised RMSE = 9.1%, equivalent to 0.4% of SOC content).
