This paper contributes to the expansion of green energy production, which is being pursued in order to mitigate climate change and carbon emissions from energy production. It addresses the delineation of areas that are suitable for the application of photovoltaics in the context of agricultural areas, water bodies, and parking spaces. Three specific photovoltaic types are examined in order to find out which criteria influence their geographic potential and whether spatial multi-criteria decision analysis methods are suitable for identifying suitable areas. The proposed approach consists of four steps: (1) collecting factors through expert interviews and questionnaires; (2) mapping the criteria to the spatial datasets; (3) deriving weighted scores for individual criteria through expert interviews; (4) applying the multi-criteria decision analysis method to compute and aggregate the final scores. We test our methodology at selected sites in the state of Styria, Austria. The test sites represent the topographical characteristics of the state and are about 5% of the size of Styria, approximately 820 km2. The key contributions are a weighted set of criteria that are relevant for the geographic potential of alternative photovoltaic types and the developed methodology to determine this potential. Sustainable supplier selection (SSS) is an essential part of the decision-making process in sustainable supply chains. Numerous research studies have been conducted using various decision-making methods to attend to this research-worthy issue. This literature review presents a comprehensive SSS analysis focusing on social, economic, and environmental aspects. The present study spans five years (2018–2022) and considers 101 papers. It provides a detailed breakdown of the papers based on their dates of publication, the countries of the writers, application fields, and journals, and it categorizes them based on their approaches. In addition, this review examines the use of single- or hybrid-form methodologies in the papers reviewed. It also identifies that the TOPSIS, AHP, VIKOR, BWM, DEA, DEMATEL, and MULTIMOORA methods and their extensions are the most frequently used methods in SSS studies. It is concluded that hybrid approaches and their rough, grey, and fuzzy extensions are used to solve real-world problems. However, state-of-the-art mathematical tools, such as soft sets and their hybrid versions with fuzzy sets, have not been utilized in SSS studies. This paper prioritizes the effective factors for fostering the culture of paying taxes in Iran's economic enterprises. The statistical population includes academic instructors and experts in the field of taxation selected by the purposive sampling method. Finally, 15 university instructors and experts answered structured interview questions. The inclusion criteria were at least 10 years of study, instructing, or working in the field of tax affairs. Sampling continued until the theoretical saturation stage. Also, the Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC)coefficient value consistency and absolute agreement were confirmed to determine the measurement tool's reliability. Super Decision software and the ANP network analysis process were used to prioritize criteria. The results of prioritization showed that criterion V1, namely "electronic infrastructure" is the most important and as a result the most important sub-criteria in presenting the model of fostering the culture of tax payment in Iranian economic enterprises. After that, the V3 criterion, namely "financial incentives" was placed as the second priority. The management ability and attitude, and compliance with tax laws were ranked third and fourth. In the context of isolated photovoltaic (PV) installations, selecting the optimal combination of modules and batteries is crucial for ensuring efficient and reliable energy supply. This paper presents a Decision Support System (DSS) designed to aid in the selection process of the development of new PV isolated installations. Two different multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) approaches are employed and compared: AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) combined with TOPSIS (technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution) and Entropy combined with TOPSIS. AHP and Entropy are used to weight the technical and economic criteria considered, and TOPSIS ranks the alternatives. A comparative analysis of the AHP + TOPSIS and Entropy + TOPSIS methods was conducted to determine their effectiveness and applicability in real-world scenarios. The results show that AHP and Entropy produce contrasting criteria weights, yet TOPSIS converges on similar top-ranked alternatives using either set of weights, with the combination of lithium-ion batteries with the copper indium gallium selenide PV module as optimal. AHP allows for the incorporation of expert subjectivity, prioritising costs and an energy yield intuitive to PV projects. Entropy's objectivity elevates criteria with limited data variability, potentially misrepresenting their true significance. Despite these discrepancies, this study highlights the practical implications of using structured decision support methodologies in optimising renewable energy systems. Even though the proposed methodology is applied to a PV isolated system, it can effectively support decision making for optimising other stand-alone or grid-connected installations, contributing to the advancement of sustainable energy solutions. Technological advancements have improved solar energy generation and reduced the cost of installing photovoltaic (PV) systems. However, challenges such as low energy-conversion efficiency and the unpredictability of electricity generation due to shading or climate conditions persist. Despite decreasing costs, access to solar energy generation technologies remains limited. This paper proposes a multi-criteria decision support system (MCDSS) for selecting the most suitable PV set (comprising PV modules, inverters, and batteries) for microgrid installations. The MCDSS employs two multi-criteria decision-making methods (MCDM) for analysis and decision-making: AHP and TOPSIS. The system was tested in two case studies: Barreiras, with a global efficiency of 14.4% and an internal rate of return (IRR) of 56.0%, and Curitiba, with a worldwide efficiency of 14.8% and an IRR of 52.0%. The research provided a framework for assessing and selecting PV sets based on efficiency, cost, and return on investment. Methodologically, it integrates multiple MCDM techniques, demonstrating their applicability in renewable energy. Managerially, it offers a practical tool for decision-makers in the energy sector to enhance the feasibility and attractiveness of microgeneration projects. Under the increasingly stringent regulatory constraints, wet waste disposal in agriculture-related towns has become a significant issue. Based on fieldwork in three agriculture-related towns and nine villages located in Shanghai, this paper analyzes the economics and greenhouse gas emissions of three wet waste disposal methods, including centralized disposal, on-site disposal by biogas digesters, and on-site disposal by small-scale biochemical processors, and compares these alternatives by combining various factors, aiming to help decision makers in selecting the optimal alternative. The net present value approach was employed to evaluate the economic aspects of the three disposal methods. The greenhouse gas emissions were calculated using life cycle assessment, life cycle inventory, and the IPCC guidelines. The fuzzy analytic hierarchy process method was employed for a multi-criteria decision-making analysis based on five factors, including economics, greenhouse gas emission control, stability, compliance with environmental regulations, and location feasibility. The results revealed that although centralized disposal is not as good as on-site disposal by biogas digesters in terms of economics and greenhouse gas emissions, centralized disposal is still the optimal alternative according to the results of multi-criteria decision making. The tightening of regulatory constraints will internalize the negative externalities of on-site wet waste disposal. Thus, centralized disposal is the method of wet waste disposal that is most consistent with the regulatory constraints and most sustainable. It is worth emphasizing that policymakers should fully assess the impact of tightening regulations on the selection of wet waste disposal methods, establish a homogenous waste disposal system covering both urban and rural areas, and enhance the management of existing on-site disposal facilities. Optimization is a process of minimizing or maximizing a given objective function under specified constraints. In multi-objective optimization (MOO), multiple conflicting functions are optimized within defined criteria. Numerous MOO techniques have been developed utilizing various meta-heuristic methods such as Evolutionary Algorithms (EAs), Genetic Algorithms (GAs), and other biologically inspired processes. In a cooperative environment, a Pareto front is generated, and an MOO technique is applied to solve for the solution set. On other hand, Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) is often used to select a single best solution from a set of provided solution candidates. The Multi-Criteria Decision Making–Pareto Front (M-PF) optimizer combines both of these techniques to find a quality set of heuristic solutions. This paper provides an improved version of the M-PF optimizer, which is called the elite Multi-Criteria Decision Making–Pareto Front (eMPF) optimizer. The eMPF method uses an evolutionary algorithm for the meta-heuristic process and then generates a Pareto front and applies MCDM to the Pareto front to rank the solutions in the set. The main objective of the new optimizer is to exploit the Pareto front while also exploring the solution area. The performance of the developed method is tested against M-PF, Non-Dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm-II (NSGA-II), and Non-Dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm-III (NSGA-III). The test results demonstrate the performance of the new eMPF optimizer over M-PF, NSGA-II, and NSGA-III. eMPF was not only able to exploit the search domain but also was able to find better heuristic solutions for most of the test functions used. Bio-inspired thin-wall structures with excellent mechanical properties, high-energy absorption capabilities, and a desirable lightweight level have been extensively applied to the passive safety protection of transportation and aerospace. Collaboration matching and the selection of optional structures with different bionic principles considering the multiple attribute evaluation index and engineering preference information have become an urgent problem. This paper proposes a parameter reduction-based indifference threshold-based attribute ratio analysis method under an interval-valued neutrosophic soft set (IVNS-SOFT) to obtain the weight vector of an evaluation indicator system for the selection of bionic thin-wall structures, which can avoid the problem of an inadequate subjective evaluation and reduce redundant parameters. An IVNS-SOFT-based multi-attributive border approximation area comparison (MABAC) method is proposed to obtain an optimal alternative, which can quantify uncertainty explicitly and handle the uncertain and inconsistent information prevalent in the expert system. Subsequently, an application of five bio-inspired thin-wall structures is applied to demonstrate that this proposed method is valid and practical. One of the crucial steps in the multi-criteria decision analysis involves establishing the importance of criteria and determining the relationship between them. This paper proposes an extended Hellwig's method (H_EM) that utilizes entropy-based weights and Mahalanobis distance to address this issue. By incorporating the concept of entropy, weights are determined based on their information content represented by the matrix data. The Mahalanobis distance is employed to address interdependencies among criteria, contributing to the improved performance of the proposed framework. To illustrate the relevance and effectiveness of the extended H_EM method, this study utilizes it to assess the progress toward achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4 of the 2030 Agenda within the European Union countries for education in the year 2021. Performance comparison is conducted between results obtained by the extended Hellwig's method and its other variants. The results reveal a significant impact on the ranking of the EU countries in the education area, depending on the choice of distance measure (Euclidean or Mahalanobis) and the system of weights (equal or entropy-based). Research in Customer Relationship Management (CRM) in the healthcare sector is in a developing stage and demands further research to get more in-depth insight. We present a comprehensive model to develop and prioritize CRM readiness factors in hospitals using fuzzy DEMATEL-ANP, which helps top managers allocate their limited resources to enhance the required infrastructure for a CRM system. After extracting proper readiness factors, multiple criteria decision-making (MCDM) techniques are applied to assess CRM readiness. First, using the fuzzy decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory approach (DEMATEL), the interdependent relations amongst criteria are designated. Second, the fuzzy analytic network process (ANP) is applied to weigh the sub-criteria. Top management support and structure are the most critical factors which play an essential role in the CRM readiness concept. The importance of top management's factor has been investigated in many previous works. The structure has been neglected in the previous studies; however, our results demonstrate that it should be considered a crucial factor. This study's findings can facilitate the CRM system's adoption process to be employed by decision-makers within hospitals to mitigate the failure rate of the CRM system's implementation, leading to providing plenty of advantages to the patient association and hospitals. This paper introduces a pioneering model that merges coupled Markov chains (CMC) with the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) to enhance multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) amidst the dynamic interplay of criteria. Traditional MCDM frameworks often lack the granularity to manage the intricate and changing relationships among criteria. Our model addresses this gap by integrating fuzzy numbers into AHP, providing a nuanced means to handle the inherent uncertainty of decision criteria. Machine learning algorithms are valuable tools for solving a wide variety of complex engineering problems. Usually, those problems have multiple criteria to fulfill, but such machine learning-based solutions are usually optimized using a single criterion. In such instances, a multi-objective optimization-based approach could bring interesting solutions by determining a set of Pareto-optimal solutions with different trade-off. Therefore, a multi-criteria decision-making process must be carried out. To the authors' present knowledge, multi-criteria decision-making is yet to be fully explored for selecting preferable Pareto-optimal machine learning models after the training step. Therefore, this paper proposes applying and comparing five different multi-criteria decision-making techniques for selecting a preferred machine learning model. Additionally, an ensemble-based framework is proposed to cope with the difficulty of selecting parameters for such techniques. Those tools are tested on a complex real-world drinking-water quality monitoring problem. Results based on the F 1 score indicate that via a multi-criteria decision-making process (F 1 = 0. 5 6), it is possible to select better solutions than single-criterion approaches (F 1 = 0. 5 5). Hellwig's method is a multi-criteria decision-making technique designed to facilitate the ranking of alternatives based on their proximity to the ideal solution. Typically, this approach calculates distances using the Euclidean norm, assuming implicitly that the considered criteria are independent. However, in real-world situations, the assumption of criteria independence is rarely met. The paper aims to propose an extension of Hellwig's method by incorporating the Mahalanobis distance. Substituting the Euclidean distance with the Mahalanobis distance has proven to be effective in handling correlations among criteria, especially in the context of asymmetrical relationships between criteria. Subsequently, we investigate the impact of the Euclidean and Mahalanobis distance measures on the several variants of Hellwig procedures, analyzing examples based on various illustrative data with 10 alternatives and 4 criteria. Additionally, we examine the influence of three normalization formulas in Hellwig's aggregation procedures. The investigation results indicate that both the distance measure and normalization formulas have some impact on the final rankings. The evaluation and ranking of alternatives using the Euclidean distance measure are influenced by the normalization formula, albeit to a limited extent. In contrast, the Mahalanobis distance-based Hellwig's method remains unaffected by the choice of normalization formulas. The study concludes that the ranking of alternatives is strongly dependent on the distance measure employed, whether it is Euclidean or Mahalanobis. The Mahalanobis distance-based Hellwig method is deemed a valuable tool for decision-makers in real-life situations. Population growth has become a serious problem in many countries, especially Egypt. Which leads to an increase in the population area and an increase in buildings, which then leads to several problems, including large energy consumption, increased pollution, traffic congest ion, and others. Therefore, many governments have resorted to using technology and applying it to build smart buildings to help save energy by using renewable energy to improve its impact on the environment, improve the quality of life of citizens, provide security and safety, and so on. The selection of smart buildings depends on many criteria. Since this problem is described as a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) problem, MCDM methods will be used in this paper. A hybrid method is presented to evaluate smart buildings. The first method, MEREC, was used to calculate the weights of criteria, and the VIKOR model was used for ranking alternatives. Then applying those weights to the CoCoSo, COPRAS, and TOPSIS methods for making comparisons using Spearman's correlation coefficients for ranking these four methods. Properly assigning weights to decision makers in a group decision making environment is one of the essential processes of utmost importance as it can have a direct effect on the final outcome. Over the last twenty years, patient opinions of the received healthcare services have emerged as a crucial quality indicator and a valuable instrument for evaluating the service quality of health organizations. However, many surveyors still utilized uncertain information for conducting this evaluation process. Whereas, in the past few years, the issues of inconsistency, indeterminacy, and uncertainty in data have been growing and have become a matter of concern in dealing with decision-making issues. This paper proposes an improved RAFSI method based on a single-valued trapezoidal neutrosophic number (SVTraNN) as a multi-attribute framework for dealing with a healthcare service quality evaluation. The proposed framework consists of two features: a feature for determining numerical criteria weights involving the procedures of the Ordinal Priority Approach (OPA) and a feature for selecting the best polyclinic through contributing our new SVTraNN Harmonic and arithmetic mean to yield criterion functions in the RAFSI method. This paper then compares the results obtained by the proposed method with other SVTraNN decision-making methods. A comparative analysis and rank reversal testing of the improved method demonstrated that the multi-attribute framework proffers the option of capability and stability in overcoming inconsistency, indeterminacy, and uncertainty information efficiently during the healthcare service quality evaluation. This paper proposes a new linguistic model called Linguistic q-Rung Orthopair fuzzy Z-number (LqROFZN), which combines the advantages of linguistic variables, Z-number and q-Rung Orthopair Fuzzy numbers. It can be used as a powerful tool for uncertain decision-making, which can effectively improve the accuracy and reliability of the decision-making results, and has a notable application prospect for the fields of information decision-making, risk assessment, diagnosis and so on. In this paper, firstly, the definition of LqROFZN and its operational rules are given, a new distance measure and the concept of entropy are given under LqROFZN, and the entropy of LqROFZN can assess the credibility situation of LqROFZN. Next, two aggregation operators under LqROFZN are given, namely the Linguistic q-Rung Orthopair fuzzy Z-number weighted aggregation (LqROFZWA) operator and the Linguistic q-Rung Orthopair fuzzy Z-number weighted Geometric aggregation (LqROFZWGA) operator. Finally, the MCDM method under LqROFZN is given and the credibility of the evaluation results is assessed using the entropy of LqROFZN. A stable and accurate forecast of water quality parameters is crucial for planning and managing future investment programs. A well-known water quality indicator is the total dissolved solids (TDS), which measures the number of metals, minerals, and salts dissolved in a particular volume of water. This paper introduces an innovative approach, which combines the kernel extreme learning machine (KELM) with the robust weight mean of vectors (INFO) algorithm. The proposed technique stands out for its strategic integration of Boruta-XGBoost (B-XGB) as an exceptional feature selection method, along with variational mode decomposition (VMD) to decompose the input variables and enhance the accuracy of forecasting. The integrated model is termed V-KELM-INFO. INFO is an essential component that incorporates a complex exploration process. It utilizes a weighted mean of vectors, a vector combining operator to enhance population variety, and a localized search operator to expedite convergence. INFO, a potent tool, is included in the V-KELM training stage. It efficiently extracts optimum parameters and dramatically improves the accuracy of monthly TDS predictions at the Idenak station in southwest Iran. Also, the multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) approach of weighted aggregated sum product assessment (WASPAS) is used to rank models. The V-KELM-INFO model was chosen based on the WASPAS results and statistical metrics (R = 0.962, RMSE = 57.84, WHD = 7.01, and U95 = 160.74) as the best model to forecast the TDS. In addition, the superiority of the proposed model was assessed against the metaheuristic-based V-KELM models, comprising the V-KELM grey wolf optimizer (V-KELM-GWO), V-KELM slime mold algorithm (V-KELM-SMA), and V-KELM equilibrium optimizer (V-KELM-EO). In material handling, warehousing, manufacturing and construction applications, forklifts are vital equipment, which are used to engage, lift and move palletized items. So, selection of the most appropriate forklift is an essential task for transportation of materials in warehouses for optimal use of the equipment. The present treatise introduces a wellknown multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) technique, namely fully consistent method (FUCOM) under neutrosophic environment (NE) to model and solve the problem of selecting the best forklift for warehouse. In this regard, the linguistic assessments of the criteria have been represented in terms of single valued triangular neutrosophic numbers (SVTNNs). A novel triangular neutrosphic score function and ranking function are also proposed. To calculate criteria weights, a novel SVTN linear programming problem (SVTNLPP) has been developed. The alternatives have been ranked through multi-objective optimization on the basis of ratio analysis (MOORA). The robustness, consistency and reliability of the proposed integrated method have been checked through comparative and sensitivity analyses. Complex interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy sets not only consider uncertainty and periodicity semantics at the same time but also choose to express the information value with an interval value to give experts more freedom and make the solution to the problem more reasonable. In this study, we used the interval quaternion number space to generalize and extend the utility of complex interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy sets, analyze their order relation, and offer new operations based on interval quaternion numbers. We proposed a new score function and correlation coefficient under interval quaternion representation. The demand for renewable energy sources is growing rapidly as a result of increasing energy consumption, fossil fuel depletion, climate change, and environmental degradation. The tide is one of the main sources of renewable energy in the ocean because of its huge potential to be harnessed. Wave-energy converters (WECs) are a potential alternative to present energy sources, with an emphasis on improving efficiency and increasing energy. With the goal of improving the uncertainty inherent in data representation, the literature gradually uses various fuzzy extensions that handle fuzzy information in subjective evaluations and decision-making processes. single-valued neutrosophic probabilistic hesitant fuzzy sets (SVNPHFS), a recent extension of neutrosophic fuzzy sets, address limitations associated with membership functions and the representation of hesitancy in multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) approaches. In the decision-making process, uncertainty is successfully handled by SVNPHFS. The objective of this study is to investigate and select a potential converter for a WEC power plant using SVNPHFS. Seven criteria for WECs are selected as potential sites for establishing a wave-energy power plant. The paper proposes a novel hybrid MCDM methodology. Fuzzy SWARA (Stepwise Weighted Assessment Ratio Analysis) is utilized for assigning weights to the criteria for WEC selection, and fuzzy ELECTRE (Elimination and Choice Expressing Reality) is used to determine the most suitable alternative using these criteria weights. The proposed technique identifies the point absorber in the first rank for the best wave-to-energy converter power plant as it generates a high amount of electricity compared to other alternatives. Cooperative Technology Transfer (CTT) is a technology transfer model where universities and enterprises jointly participate throughout the entire process of technology transfer activities. Most discussions focus on its mechanisms and influencing factors, yet a framework to guide CTT projects in practice is still lacking. This study proposes an assessment model based on the life-cycle of CTT projects, covering the initial cooperation relationship, project management during the mid-term, and technological achievements at the end. The model was evaluated by 14 experts first and then validated through two CTT projects in China. Gray Relation Analysis was employed to calculate the weights of different factors based on their relative importance, while the Dempster–Shafer theory was utilized to combine evidence from various sources and address the uncertainty in the assessment. The results of the case analysis indicate that the attitudes of universities and enterprises are considered critical in influencing the success of CTT projects, while management issues that arise during the projects can pose potential risks. This research serves as an applied exploration and has three functions. Firstly, the model can be used as a feasibility study before the project commences. The economy of South Asia is experiencing growth, yet it faces constraints due to heavy reliance on fossil fuels and frequent power outages. Access to diverse energy sources, particularly electricity, is crucial for sustaining this growth. One feasible solution involves neighbouring countries engaging in the trade of renewable electrical energy. Hydropower stands as one of the many energy sources available in South Asia. However, sectorial constraints pose significant challenges to energy trade initiatives. This study utilises the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to evaluate Nepal's readiness and identify obstacles to its cross-border energy trade with India and Bangladesh. A comprehensive analysis of these obstacles is imperative for formulating effective strategies and policies. Additionally, this study offers recommendations for enhancing preparedness and resolving issues related to energy trading, which may apply to similar cross-border situations. This study ranks energy trading obstacles with neighbouring nations using the AHP, offering key insights for stakeholders and policymakers. Using a non-probabilistic purposeful sampling technique, 25 expert respondents from the energy sector and prominent academicians were selected as part of the data collection procedure. Selecting a vehicle to monitor navigational safety is an important goal, especially in search and rescue operations. It depends on the criteria set and the type of equipment in use. The study aimed to select the optimal vehicle according to the optimal criterion. In the decision-making, the AHP method was used to analyze and rank the selection criteria and vehicle types. As the most important criterion, the results point to reliability in different weather conditions and the SAR vessel as the first choice for interventions and monitoring navigational safety in Croatia. Surface mining is one of the hazardous industries that have several risky operations, including transportation, treatment, and mineral extraction. To avoid the risk of disaster, it is important to evaluate safety procedures and determine expected hazards. The aim of this study is to develop a thorough safety evaluation model for the surface mining industry based on the analytic hierarchy process (AHP), one important multi-criteria decision-making approach. A total of 11 criteria and 36 sub-criteria that are both independent and homogeneous were involved in the decision problem. Further, a deep sensitivity analysis was conducted to assess the stability of the ranking preference. The findings indicate that four out of the eleven criteria are particularly significant. To test the model's applicability and effectiveness, a case study was conducted involving three surface mining companies located in the north of Jordan. The proliferation of shared electric scooters (E-scooters) has brought convenience to urban transportation but has also introduced challenges such as disorderly parking and an imbalance between supply and demand. Given the current inconsistent quantity and spatial distribution of shared E-scooters, coupled with inadequate research on deployment stations selection, we propose a novel maximal covering location problem (MCLP) based on distance tolerance. The model aims to maximize the coverage of user demand while minimizing the sum of distances from users to deployment stations. A deep reinforcement learning (DRL) was devised to address this optimization model. An experiment was conducted focusing on areas with high concentrations of shared E-scooter trips in Chicago. The solutions of location selection were obtained by DRL, the Gurobi solver, and the genetic algorithm (GA). The experimental results demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed model in optimizing the layout of shared E-scooter deployment stations. This study provides valuable insights into facility location selection for urban shared transportation tools, and showcases the efficiency of DRL in addressing facility location problems (FLPs). Amid rising energy demands in rural areas, thorough resource assessments for initiatives such as wind power are crucial. This study involves a land resource assessment for wind power generation on the rustic Sibuyan Island in the Philippines, which is currently experiencing an electricity shortage. A comprehensive overview of the island's suitability for wind energy projects is performed via evaluation and analysis using geospatial data and multi-criteria decision making (MCDM). The research results indicate that 50.44% (220.68 km2) of the island's land area is categorized as 'poorly suitable' since it considers protected areas where developments are not allowed. Only 0.08% (0.35 km2) of the island can be classified as 'marginally suitable', while 9.15% (40.73 km2), 36.64% (176.39 km2), and 0.69% (3.05 km2) are labeled as 'moderately suitable', 'suitable', and 'highly suitable', respectively. This confirms the potential for wind energy exploration on the island. Delineating the suitability levels provides a foundational framework for stakeholders that enables them to identify optimal sites for wind power, sustain the island's resources, and contribute to the renewable energy landscape of this rural location. With the advancement of distributed power generation technology and the deepening of the low-carbon transformation of energy structure, a high proportion of renewable energy has become an inevitable trend in future energy systems, especially for microgrids. However, the volatility and uncertainty associated with renewable energy pose significant challenges to the secure and stable operation of power systems, necessitating the exploration of the flexible regulation of resources. Energy storage, as a crucial flexible resource characterized by technological diversity and a variety of regulation capabilities, has been extensively studied and applied. Nonetheless, the high investment costs and limited returns of energy storage technology, coupled with the ambiguous utility in different scenarios under the current electricity market's framework, complicate its broader application. To thoroughly analyze the utility of energy storage in facilitating flexible adjustments in microgrids, this study developed a composite weight-TODIM (an acronym in Portuguese for interactive and multi-criteria decision making) model for assessing the utility of energy storage that incorporates heterogeneity in the risk preferences. This model enabled a comparative analysis of the utility of energy storage technology across multiple scenarios, taking the risk preferences of decision-makers into account, thereby providing strategic insights for the application of multi-temporal energy storage in microgrids. This study quantified uncertainties involved in assessing the future flood vulnerability in 33 urban areas with population exceeding designated thresholds in South Korea. The driver-pressure-state-impact-response (DPSIR) framework was utilized as the study procedure, integrating social, economic, and environmental factors. In addition, a total of 220 cases of combinations were examined, encompassing twenty general circulation models combined with shared socioeconomic pathway scenarios, five weight determination methods, and three multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) techniques, as sources of inherent uncertainties in the process. The rankings of urban flood vulnerability (UFV) for the selected cities were comprehensively assessed considering all combinations, followed by an analysis of variance test to investigate contributing sources of uncertainties. As a result, Incheon and Busan were found to be vulnerable to flooding, while Yeongcheon and Andong appeared to be safe cities. Some cities exhibited wide ranges in their rankings, such as Daegu, Yangpyeon, and Jeongeup. The identified contributing sources were weighting (58%), MCDM (27%), and the combination of weighting and MCDM methods together (15%). This study revealed that weight determination methods and MCDM techniques are the primary sources of uncertainties in the assessment of future UFV instead of multiple GCMs and SSPs. This study aims to analyze the research performance of 38 OECD countries in the last 10 years. For this purpose, the research performance of these countries was analyzed using multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods with the productivity and publication impact data of 38 countries. The analyses were conducted both normal data and also with adjusted data based on the population and income level of the countries. Firstly, the importance level of research performance criteria was determined by three different MCDM methods. Using the weight values obtained from these methods, countries were ranked by three different MCDM methods used for ranking purposes. According to the results of the study, the publications in the highest cited 1% were determined as the most important and distinctive criterion. Secondly, the criterion expressing the relative impact of publications on the world was determined as the second most important criterion. In the analyses conducted without normalizing the data, USA showed the highest research performance. In the analyses conducted by considering the population of the countries, Switzerland showed the highest research performance. In the analyses conducted by taking into account the income level of the countries, Estonia has the highest research performance. As R&D expenditures, development level of countries and international collaboration increased, research performance of countries increased. However, with the increase in domestic collaboration, there has been a decrease in research performance. Although Australia remains committed to the Paris Agreement and to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions, it was late in joining the 2021 Global Methane Pledge. Finding suitable methane (CH4) mitigation solutions for Australia's livestock industry should be part of this journey. Based on a 2020–2023 systematic literature review and multicriteria decision approach, this study analyses the available strategies for the Australian beef and dairy sector under three scenarios: baseline, where all assessment criteria are equally weighted; climate emergency, with a significant emphasis on CH4 reduction for cattle in pasture and feedlot systems; and conservative, where priority is given to reducing costs. In total, 46 strategies from 27 academic publications were identified and classified as 'Avoid', 'Shift', or 'Improve' with respect to their impact on current CH4 emissions. The findings indicate that 'Avoid' strategies of conversion of agricultural land to wetlands, salt marshes, and tidal forest are most efficient in the climate emergency scenario, while the 'Improve' strategy of including CH4 production in the cattle breeding goals is the best for the conservative and baseline scenarios. A policy mix that encourages a wide range of strategies is required to ensure CH4 emission reductions and make Australia's livestock industry more sustainable. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The process of selecting and configuring equipment fleets for open-pit mining is complex, requiring consideration of both quantitative and qualitative criteria. This paper presents a novel comprehensive framework for selecting loading/hauling fleets in open-pit mining projects. Through an extensive review of the literature, a total of 21 selection criteria are initially identified. With guidance from local experts, these criteria are shortlisted into five primary groups: site conditions, managerial, social, and environmental criteria. The ranking of the identified selection criteria is carried out by employing the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and multi-attribute utility theory (MAUT) methods, utilizing a questionnaire survey. The most crucial criteria in selecting loading/hauling equipment are identified as the equipment's operating cost, productivity, repair and maintenance costs, and soil condition. An optimization module is developed to optimize the selected fleet, while adhering to sustainability principles and project constraints. The optimization module considers social, economic, and environmental sustainability variables to determine the optimal number, size, type, and capacity of fleets needed to complete the work within the allotted time. As a case study, the proposed framework is validated by experts in these types of projects. The framework's ability to effectively select fleet units for sustainable loading/hauling fleet is confirmed through this validation method.

Researchers in various fields have consistently used Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) methods for discipline improvement, employing both standard and novel approaches. Selecting a weighting mechanism for evaluation criteria is critical in MCDM problems. Recognizing the importance of remaining up to date on such developments in methodology, this study aims to review several innovative methods integrated with Fuzzy Weighted Zero Inconsistency (FWZIC). Relying on the papers taken from the significant databases: IEEE Xplore (IEEE), ScienceDirect (SD), Scopus, and PubMed from 23 August 2023 to 30 October 2023, where each method was read and analyzed for its characteristics and steps. These indexes were deemaed extensive and dependable enough to encompass the scope of our literature review. A total number of articles, n = 26 were chosen based on the criteria for inclusion and exclusion have been selected for this systematic review. By using bibliometric and content analysis, this study examined the developing ways with (FWZIC), as well as study components (sources, authors, different countries, and affiliations), areas of application, case studies, fuzzy implementations, hybrid studies (use of other weighting methods), and application tools for these methods. The results of this literature systematic review (LSR) provide an accurate depiction of each new development related to the weighting method and its utilization, such as: 1- Extracting the types of development employed in the FWZIC approach based on Fuzzy Set. 2- Extracting types of aggregation operators. 3- Analyzing integration methods with FWZIC (hybridized with other methods), and 4- Case study types showing how MCDM approaches may help decision-makers in a variety of decisions. Also, a set of recommendations has been presented to the researchers for the development of new method types, as a new direction for future work. This will provide academics and practitioners in the field of MCDM with valuable insights and significant expertise for data analysis and decisionmaking.

Population growth has become a serious problem in many countries, especially Egypt. Which leads to an increase in the population area and an increase in buildings, which then leads to several problems, including large energy consumption, increased pollution, traffic congestion, and others. Therefore, many governments have resorted to using technology and applying it to build smart buildings to help save energy by using renewable energy to improve its impact on the environment, improve the quality of life of citizens, provide security and safety, and so on. The selection of smart buildings depends on many criteria. Since this problem is described as a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) problem, MCDM methods will be used in this paper. A hybrid method is presented to evaluate smart buildings. The first method, MEREC, was used to calculate the weights of criteria, and the VIKOR model was used for ranking alternatives. Then applying those weights to the CoCoSo, COPRAS, and TOPSIS methods for making comparisons using Spearman`s correlation coefficients for ranking these four methods. All methods used are applied in the T2NN environment.

Properly assigning weights to decision makers in a group decision making environment is one of the essential processes of utmost importance as it can have a direct effect on the final outcome. This paper, basing on the entropy method, proposes a correct and efficient way to objectively assign weights to decision makers in a multi-criteria group decision making environment. Two approaches namely, constant and variable weighting, have been put forward whilst providing necessary proofs and numerical examples in order to show one of the existing ways in literature is erroneous as it is not resulting in weights that reflects entropy method’s basic intuition.

This research paper presents a data-driven framework for design optimization of renewable energy communities (RECs) in the residential sector, considering both techno-economic challenges and environmental impact. The study's focus is to determine suitable sizes for photovoltaic systems, wind turbines, and battery electrical energy systems by evaluating energy, economic, and environmental criteria. To achieve this, we develop a data-driven model that incorporates Homer Pro and an in-house tool developed in Python programming language that integrates a machine learning algorithm, life cycle cost (LCC), life cycle assessment (LCA) calculations of the REC model. Furthermore, a multi-objective optimization model is established to minimize the LCC and LCA parameters while maximizing green energy use. Moreover, a multi-criteria decision-making approach based on Weighted Sum Model (WSM) is proposed to help the stakeholders to see beyond the selection criteria based on LCC and LCA to choose the most appropriate scenario optimal solution for the desired energy community and interpret the effect of various economic parameters on the sustainable performance of REC. The framework application is illustrated through a case study for the optimal design of REC for a residential community in Tarragona, Spain, consisting of 100 buildings. The results revealed a substantial improvement in economic and environmental benefits for designing REC, the optimal minimum cost solution with a levelized cost of energy (LCOE = 0.044 $/kWh) and a payback period of 7.1 years with an LCOE reduction of 85.04% compared to the base case. The minimum impact with an LCOE = 0.220 $/kWh and a payback period of 12.5 years with a reduction in environmental impact of 54.59% compared to the base case. Supplier selection is critical to the healthcare industry, especially in emergencies. Accurate and timely supply of healthcare resources can reduce economic cost and ensure the safety of people's lives. However, the healthcare supplier market is enormous and complex; making accurate evaluations of different suppliers and helping managers choose the most suitable one when considering many factors is becoming an important task. Many multicriteria decision-making (MCDM) methods have been applied to supplier selection in existing literature. However, the research on healthcare supplier selection still needs to be completed. In this paper, to deal with healthcare supplier selection problems when there is no sufficient time and information to decide with uncertainty, the stochastic multicriteria acceptability analysis (SMAA) method and multi-attributive border approximation area comparison (MABAC) method are first combined by taking both the advantages of SMAA and MABAC methods when the assessments are expressed by belief distributions (BDs). In the SMAA-MABAC method, the global ignorance in BDs and the uncertain criteria weights are considered by judging the feasible space to derive the final rank of healthcare suppliers with the most possible. The more straightforward calculation process of SMAA-MABAC makes it faster to make an accurate choice among various suppliers. Moreover, it is flexible to generate different recommended suggestions when diverse preference information is added in SMAA-MABAC. Finally, a case study of healthcare supplier selection is examined for managers based on distributed reviews, and targeted selection advice is given concerning different demands. Besides, the sensitive analysis is provided to better understand the influence of the criteria weights on the proposed model. Best-worst method (BWM) has received extensive attention because of its fewer pairwise comparisons and maintenance of consistency. Extending it to various fuzzy environments has become a hot research spot. This paper initiates a new interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy (IVIF) BWM with additive consistency. Firstly, an IVIF fuzzy preference relation (IVIFPR) is viewed as a directed graph with IVIF weights. An approach is offered to distinguish the best and worst criteria by the defined score out-degree and accuracy out-degree of criteria. The concept of IVIF reference comparisons is introduced. The additive consistency of IVIF reference comparisons is acquired by that of IVIFPR using its left and right intuitionistic fuzzy preference relations. We derive the relationship between the IVIF reference comparisons and the IVIF priority weight vector. Based on this relationship, a linear goal programming model is constructed to generate the IVIF priority weights. Two consistency indexes are analytically obtained and the consistency ratio is then defined to check the consistency of IVIF reference comparisons. For the unacceptably additive consistency, a new approach is put forward to enhance the consistency. Thereby, the proposed IVIF BWM is summarized step by step. Photovoltaic (PV) power generation is becoming a good solution to meet energy demand. However, centralized PV production sites may pose a threat to industrial land or agricultural land. To solve the energy-environment-land conflict, agrivoltaic coupling energy storage (AVCES) projects become a feasible new land use model. The investment decision of AVCES project is a multi-criteria decision problem (MCDM). Therefore, this paper firstly constructs an evaluation index system containing four criteria: resources, economy, social, environment and ecology. Secondly, the subjective weights of each indicator are determined based on the distributed linguistic trust model and the cloud model, and the objective weights are determined based on the cloud model and the integrated determination of objective criteria weights (IDOCRIW) model. Subjective and objective weights are combined based on game theory. Finally, the TODIM model is used to get the optimal choice among multiple schemes. Food waste has been recognized as one of the most severe environmental problems globally. Food waste management is an effective procedure for achieving global food security, which requires rational and efficacious waste treatment and disposal techniques. Thus, selecting proper and suitable food waste treatment methods is one of the most significant food waste management issues. However, existing selection frameworks based on decision-making models for food waste treatment methods can seldom handle this issue with complicated uncertainty and periodic information. Accordingly, this paper aims to generate a complex spherical fuzzy information-based selection framework for evaluating the food waste treatment method with mutual support and periodicity decision information. First, the complex spherical fuzzy sets express subjective and uncertain selection information. Then, the power weighted average (PWA) operator for complex spherical fuzzy numbers is introduced to fuse the decision information of mutual support from experts that can reflect the impact of information with supportive relationships. Next, an extensible ARAS (Additive Ratio Assessment) approach-based selection framework is constructed to determine the most sustainable food waste treatment method in which the distance-measure-based weighting method is utilized to calculate the importance degrees of criteria. Finally, a case study of evaluating food waste treatment methods is expounded to display the application of the proposed framework. The result indicates that the alternative a 2 (Anaerobic digestion) is the most sustainable method for food waste treatment with the largest utility degree (0.920). After that, the comparison studies are also performed to illustrate further the reasonability and effectiveness of the proposed selection framework. Ranking Intuitionistic Fuzzy Sets (IFS) using distance-based methods involves calculating the distance between an IFS and a reference point which represents either maximum (positive ideal solution) or minimum (negative ideal solution) value. These methods assume that similarity of an IFSs to the reference point increases as its distance from it decreases. While it is a common practice to use nonlinear distance functions for ranking IFSs, this paper proves that no nonlinear IF distance function can be robust. In this study, the shortcomings of the conventional procedure are demonstrated by providing a mathematical proof and an alternative ranking method based on the hypervolume metric is proposed. In addition, the suggested ranking approach is extended as a new multi-criteria decision making method called Hypervolume-based Evaluation and Ranking Technique (HEART). HEART is applied for multi-criteria assessment of Turkey's energy alternatives. A cubic bipolar fuzzy number (CBFN) is extremely useful for conveying ambiguous data in real-world settings. The idea of a priority degree is used in an MCDM in which the parameters have a prioritization relationship. Aggregation operators (AOs) are created by assigning non-negative real numbers called priority degrees to tight priority levels. As a result, "cubic bipolar fuzzy prioritized averaging operator with priority degrees (CBFPDA)" and "cubic bipolar fuzzy prioritized geometric operator with priority degrees (CBFPGD)" are presented as prioritized operators with CBFNs. In the wake of Industry 4.0, the ubiquitous internet of things provides big data to potentially quantify the environmental footprint of green products. Further, as the concept of Industry 5.0 emphasizes, the increasing mass customization production makes the product configurations full of individuation and diversification. Driven by these fundamental changes, the design for sustainability of a high-mix low-volume product–service system faces the increasingly deep coupling of technology-driven product solutions and value-driven human-centric goals. The multi-criteria decision making of sustainability issues is prone to fall into the complex, contradictory, fragmented, and opaque flood of information. To this end, this work presents a data-driven quantitative method for the sustainability assessment of product–service systems by integrating analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and data envelopment analysis (DEA) methods to measure the sustainability of customized products and promote the Industry 5.0-enabled sustainable product–service system practice. This method translates the sustainability assessment into a multi-criteria decision-making problem, to find the solution that meets the most important criteria while minimizing trade-offs between conflicting criteria, such as individual preferences or needs and the life cycle sustainability of bespoke products. Eating, central to human existence, is influenced by a myriad of factors, including nutrition, health, personal taste, cultural background, and flavor preferences. The challenge of devising personalized meal plans that effectively encompass these dimensions is formidable. A crucial shortfall in many existing meal-planning systems is poor user adherence, often stemming from a disconnect between the plan and the user's lifestyle, preferences, or unseen eating patterns. Our study introduces a pioneering algorithm, CFRL, which melds reinforcement learning (RL) with collaborative filtering (CF) in a unique synergy. This algorithm not only addresses nutritional and health considerations but also dynamically adapts to and uncovers latent user eating habits, thereby significantly enhancing user acceptance and adherence. CFRL utilizes Markov decision processes (MDPs) for interactive meal recommendations and incorporates a CF-based MDP framework to align with broader user preferences, translated into a shared latent vector space. Logistics is significantly impacted by quality/quantity issues associated with data collection and data sharing restrictions. Nonetheless, public data from national entities and internet-of-things (IoT) solutions enable the development of integrated tools for performance analysis and real-time optimization of logistics networks. This study proposes a three-module data-driven system architecture that covers (a) logistics data collection tools, (b) logistics services performance evaluation, and (c) the transition to synchromodal systems. Module 1 integrates multisource data from national logistics platforms and embedded devices placed within intermodal containers. A multigraph representation of the problem is conceived. Environmental, economic, and operational data are generated and injected into a digital twin. Thus, key performance indicators (KPIs) are computed by simulation or direct transformation of the collected data. Module 2 uses Multi-directional Efficiency Analysis, an optimization algorithm that benchmarks multimodal transportation routes of containers using prior KPIs. Outputs are a technical performance index relevant to logistics clients and improvement measures for logistics service providers. A real case study application of the solution proposed for Module 2 is presented. Module 3 provides real-time scheduling and assignment models using CP-sat solvers, accommodating varying system dynamics and resource availability, minimizing makespan and operational costs. The agricultural land evaluation procedure is a valuable guide for growing plants where they are best suitable, and it has a critical role in actualizing sustainable plans for providing food security for the growing population. In agricultural land suitability analysis, different multi-criteria decision-making methods are applied. The main objective of this study is to introduce the potential usage of a new multi-criteria decision-making method the Full Consistency Method (FUCOM) in agricultural land suitability analysis. The study was carried out in the northern part of the Karamenderes plain in NW Turkey. Nine land characteristics (soil texture, soil depth, organic matter content, electrical conductivity, pH, slope, drainage, CaCO3%, and cation exchange capacity) were used for the land evaluation study. The weighting values of the land characteristics were calculated by the FUCOM. According to the results, 223 ha (6.26%) were highly suitable, 2650 ha (74.40%) were moderately suitable, 508 ha (14.26%) were marginally suitable, and 181 ha (5.08%) were not suitable for maize cultivation. The weighted values of the parameters were also tested with Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and the Best-Worst Method (BWM). There is a general compatibility between the methodologies. The data obtained from these methods showed that analysis consists of a very positive relationship with each other. The comparisons of these methodologies showed that FUCOM's prioritization order simplicity in parameter weighting and ability to reduce the processing intensity would provide a significant contribution and advantage to the land evaluation experts and planners.
