This paper systematically presents the development process of studying ancient Chinese ethnic scripts over the past seven decades since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, including the establishment of related research institutions and academic disciplines. Firstly, it records the establishment of the Chinese Association for Ethnic Paleography, the emergence of ancient scripts of ethnic groups in China as an academic discipline, and the conduction of a comprehensive and in-depth study of ancient Chinese ethnic literature in history. Secondly, this paper outlines the establishment of the National Leading Group for Compilation and Publication Planning of Ancient Ethnic Books, the census of ancient books written in ethnic scripts, the specialized preservation and conservation of ancient ethnic books in Xizang and Xinjiang, the promotion of compiling and publishing ancient ethnic books, and how the promotion further drives the protection of and research on ancient books written in ethnic scripts. Thirdly, the paper lists many innovative outcomes in studying ancient ethnic books. Fourthly, the paper proposes to conduct further censuses and in-depth research in this area, establish a grading system for ancient ethnic books, and utilize the resource of ancient ethnic books written in ethnic scripts in a modern context to further promote the excellent cultural heritages of the Chinese nation and enhancing ethnic unity and national unity. Chinese higher education institutions have adopted a US-style tenure track system since the 1990s. This is an important reform aimed at modernizing China's higher education system. In response, authors have begun to carry out close examination of the career system and analyse its implications in a national context (Republic of China). This study aims to present the key research themes, identify research gaps and offer recommendations from the increasing pool of Chinese-language literature on the tenure track system. A scoping review of Chinese language papers was conducted using the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (including the China Academic Journals Full-text Database, China Core Newspapers Full-text Database, China Doctoral Dissertations Full-text Database, China Masters' Thesis Full-text Database, and China Yearbooks Fulltext Database) (CNKI) database. Four major research themes were identified in Chinese discourse: (1) examining the tenure track system, (2) providing suggestions for better adaptation of the tenure track system in the Chinese context, (3) analysing the negative effects of the tenure track system, and (4) analysing the positive effects of the tenure track system. Generally, authors were concerned with the adaptation and cultivation of the US-originated tenure track system in the Chinese context and emphasized the importance of acknowledging its perceived negative influences on early-career scholars who have not received adequate attention. Overall, the authors demonstrate increasing interest in the tenure track system in China, and the literature is of variable quality. Further empirical studies are needed to analyse, evaluate and guide future improvement of the career system in the Chinese context in practice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The unique neighborhood style of San Francisco Chinatown is influenced by Chinese and American culture, history and social system. Through field investigation, Chinese and English literature collection, and spatial analysis, this paper interprets the motivation of its style evolution. In the process of research, the author tries to analyze the changes and driving forces of Chinatown in San Francisco from three dimensions: the city scale, the blocks scale, and the building scale. The results show that the formation process of Chinatown in San Francisco and the range of its blocks are deeply influenced by the world political pattern in the early 20th century, the Sino-American multi-party regulations and Sino-American relations. The architectural style of the block is influenced by the Eastern and Western cultures, which is a distinctive architectural feature. The traditional architecture is deeply influenced by the architectural style of southern Fujian, while the new architecture is mainly based on the modernist architectural style. Among the main factors affecting the evolution of Chinatown in San Francisco, gold rush, earthquake, traditional Chinese architectural style and immigration policy to China are the internal mechanisms of the formation of Chinatown's spatial characteristics. Taking "harmony of body and spirit" as the theoretical core in Huangdi Neijing and the functional nature and executive structure of the five emotions system as clues, this paper explores and analyzes the relevant theories of the five emotions system in ancient Chinese medicine literature. It is found that the five emotions system is a highly ordered and integrated collection of five functional states. It often resides in the five zang viscera, it operates between the meridians and the xuanfu through the elevation and movement of the qi, and it is the pivotal point for the operation of the qi and blood of the organism, the interactive conduction of information, and the unity of form, emotion, and qi. Therefore, this paper starts from the point of view of system science. It is proposed that the primordial spirit exercises control over the five emotions and the five emotions provide nutrition to the primordial spirit, and that the two are not "islands of information" but have a dynamic and hierarchical internal connection. The executive structure of the five emotions system, namely, the meridians, the xuanfu, and the five zang viscera, is the pivot, and it is recognized that the operation of the five emotions system is a process with self-organizing characteristics and orderly and eternal motion. We think of the qi, blood, ying, and essence as the basis of occurrence, the meridian as the execution channel, and the xuanfu as the place for the spiritual mechanism to enter and exit; the five zang viscera serve as a dwelling place, and ministerial fire serves as the source of energy. We aimed to understand the commonly used acupoints and the acupoint combination rules in Guasha therapy for primary headaches using data mining technology, providing a reference for the clinical application of Guasha therapy for primary headaches. Methods: Literature related to Guasha therapy for primary headaches in PubMed, Web of Science, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Data Knowledge Service Platform, and Chinese Biomedical Literature Database were searched, up until May 12, 2023. A database of acupoints for Guasha therapy for primary headaches was established in Excel. The frequency of the acupoints used for Guasha in therapy of primary headaches were calculated by SPSS 25.0. The association rules between the acupoints were further described using SPSS Modeler 18.0. Results: A total of 67 papers were included, involving 51 acupoints for Guasha against primary headaches. The most commonly used acupoints were Fengchi, Baihui, Taiyang, Shuaigu, Tianzhu, and Hegu. The common acupoint combinations for Guasha therapy for primary headaches were Fengchi-Taiyang, Fengchi-Baihui, Fengchi-Taiyang-Baihui, Fengchi-Tianzhu-Baihui, and Fengchi-Shuaigu-Taiyang-Baihui. Conclusion: Data mining can effectively analyze the commonly used acupoints and the acupoint combination rules in Guasha therapy for primary headaches, providing a reliable basis for clinical acupoint selection. In this paper, the modification methods of the Chinese Christian painting created by the missionaries in the late Ming Dynasty (1573–1644) were analyzed with the Chinese Catholic studies of the "Song nianzhu guicheng" and the "Tianzhu Jiangsheng Chuxiang Jingjie". After carefully studying the differences between the Chinese Christian painting and the original European version, the study shows that these Chinese Christian paintings were integrated with the Chinese literati paintings' elements and literati symbols, which include the "Yudiancun" (raindrop texture stroke), "Pimacun" (hemp-fiber texture stroke), "landscape screen" (painted screens with natural landscapes), and the mark of Chinese famous literati such as Dong Qichang. These adjustments conducted by missionaries aimed to make religious paintings more in line with literati aesthetics, which could build connections between the missionaries and the literati community for proselytization. However, the missionaries neglected that the literati community certainly would not sacrifice the existing social order and the vested interest brought by the current Confucian culture to support new ideas of "liberty" and "equality" in the Catholic doctrine, which caused a huge setback in the missionary work since the Nanjing Teaching Case in 1616. This research makes significant contributions to the understanding of cultural exchanges in the 17th century through a detailed exploration of the adjustments made by missionaries in the visual representations within Chinese Catholic literature. French Shanghai Daily (Le Journal de Shanghai) was founded in 1927 by Jean Fontenoy, the special commissioner of Agency Havas. It was funded by the French Chamber of Commerce. It was published for more than ten years and sold thousands of copies daily. French Shanghai Daily was not only circulated in the French concession of Shanghai, but also distributed to other French colonies. It was the most important French newspaper published in Republican China. French Shanghai Daily was rich in content and had a variety of columns. In addition to world news and financial information, it also included literature and art columns on weekends, serializing world literary masterpieces. From January 1934 to the end of that year, the newspaper's weekend supplement added a column entitled "Today's Chinese Literature" (La littérature chinoise d'aujourd'hui), which published the French translation of works by Lu Xun, Guo Moruo, Chen Weimo, Wang Duqing, Rou Shi and other Chinese writers. These works were translated by Xu Zhongnian, a scholar who studied in France, who was responsible for the "Chinese Literature" column for La Nouvelle Revue Française in Paris. How did Xu Zhongnian translate modern Chinese literary works to readers in French Shanghai Daily? What were his translation strategies and achievements? And what kind of role did Xu play during the process of modern Chinese literature entering the world literary space? Although Xu Zhongnian's translation practice was not entirely unnoticed by scholars, his translation and introduction of modern Chinese literature in the French Shanghai Daily has attracted relatively little attention. Borrowing the point of view of the making of world literature, this paper examines the cultural connotation of Xu Zhongnian's transcultural translation practices during the early republic period. The narrative of 'imposition', whereby 'international law' is said to have been imposed by Western powers on China, was shared by both English and Chinese literatures, albeit each holding contrasting views on the meaning and consequences of such 'imposition'. This paper seeks to highlight the nuances in the shared 'imposition' narratives and challenge many of its presumptions through a chronological re-examination. First, by tracing the 'encounter' back to the 16th century, the unity and diversity between the Sinocentric and Eurocentric orders were re-examined. Second, by comparing the Chinese and English text of the Opium War Treaties, this paper reveals how the Qing Empire also sought to accommodate the Eurocentric order in its own term from 1842 to 1860. Third, by seeing the 'encounter' as an evolutionary rather than a revolutionary process, this paper demonstrates how the concept of 'China as a state' evolved from the Celestial Empire's 'encounter' with 'international law'. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of the literature concerning a crucial link that unites mainland China, Hong Kong and overseas Chinese communities. The Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, a charitable organisation based in Hong Kong, played a key role in the facilitation of the repatriation of the remains of individuals of Chinese descent living abroad. This paper places special emphasis on the value of archival records released by the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals. It proposes the pursuit of interdisciplinary research and underscores the necessity for comprehensive investigations that encompass publications in different languages. To enhance our understanding of the repatriation of deceased overseas Chinese individuals, there is a resounding need for expanded initiatives to collect and preserve primary historical sources. Objective: This meta-analysis aims to assess the efficacy and safety of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH). Methods: We comprehensively searched randomized controlled trials in PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, China Science and Technology Journal Database, WanFang, and Chinese BioMedical Literature Database from inception until October 25, 2024. The literature on the clinical efficacy of autologous PRP for ONFH was collated. According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, the literature was screened, quality evaluated and the data was extracted. Meta-analysis was carried out with the software Review Manager 5.4.1 software and Stata 17.0 software. In addition, potential publication bias was detected by the funnel plot test and Egger's test. The GRADE system was used to evaluate the quality of evidence for outcome indicators. Results: Fourteen studies involving 909 patients were included in this study. Compared with non-PRP, PRP exhibited significant improvements in the Harris hip score (HHS) at 3 months (MD = 3.58, 95% Cl: 1.59 to 5.58, P = 0.0004), 6 months (MD = 6.19, 95% Cl: 3.96 to 8.41, P < 0.00001), 12 months (MD = 4.73, 95% Cl: 3.24 to 6.22, P < 0.00001), ≥ 24 months (MD = 6.83, 95% Cl: 2.09 to 11.59, P = 0.0003), and the last follow-up (MD = 6.57, 95% Cl: 4.81 to 8.33, P < 0.00001). The PRP also showed improvement in HHS compared to baseline than the non-PRP at 3 months (MD = 3.60, 95% Cl: 1.26 to 5.94, P = 0.003), 6 months (MD = 6.17, 95% Cl: 3.74 to 8.61, P < 0.00001), 12 months (MD = 5.35, 95% Cl: 3.44 to 7.25, P < 0.00001), ≥ 24 months (MD = 8.19, 95% Cl: 3.76 to 12.62, P = 0.0003), and the last follow-up (MD = 6.94, 95% Cl: 5.09 to 8.78, P < 0.00001). The change in visual analog scale (VAS) score 3 months post intervention (MD = -0.33, 95% Cl: -0.52 to -0.13, P = 0.001), 6 months (MD = -0.69, 95% Cl: -0.90 to -0.48, P < 0.00001), 12 months (MD = -0.75, 95% Cl: -1.05 to -0.46, P < 0.00001), ≥ 24 months (MD = -1.05, 95% Cl: -1.20 to -0.89, P < 0.00001), and the last follow-up (MD = -0.75, 95% Cl: -0.97 to -0.54, P < 0.00001). The PRP also showed a decrease in VAS score compared to baseline than the non-PRP at 3 months (MD = -0.29, 95% Cl: -0.41 to -0.17, P = 0.003), 6 months (MD = -0.63, 95% Cl: -0.96 to -0.30, P = 0.0002), 12 months (MD = -0.78, 95% Cl: -1.22 to -0.33, P = 0.0006), ≥ 24 months (MD = -1.11, 95% Cl: -1.27 to -0.96, P < 0.00001), and the last follow-up (MD = -0.74, 95% Cl: -1.05 to -0.43, P < 0.00001). Additionally, it was found that the PRP group had the advantages in the following aspects: collapse rate of the femoral head (RR = 0.33, 95% Cl: 0.17 to 0.62, P = 0.0006), rate of conversion to total hip arthroplasty (RR = 0.37, 95% Cl: 0.18 to 0.74, P = 0.005), and overall complications (RR = 0.33, 95% Cl: 0.13 to 0.83, P = 0.02). The GRADE evidence evaluation showed overall complication as very low quality and other indicators as low quality. Conclusion: There is limited evidence showing benefit of PRP therapy for treatment of ONFH patients, and most of this evidence is of low quality. Caution should therefore be exercised in interpreting these results. It is recommended that future research involve a greater number of high-quality studies to validate the aforementioned conclusions. The retranslations of Andersen's fairy tales in the twentieth century have promoted the canonization of Andersen in the modern Chinese literary system. Today, Chinese readers of different ages are fascinated by Andersen's works and the images created by him. However, the literary and cultural significance of Andersen to China lies in his influence. In this paper, the authors will first review the history of translating Andersen's fairy tales in China and then analyze some cases from Chinese literature and culture within the theoretical framework of intertextuality, in an attempt to specify the influence of Andersen on modern Chinese literature and culture. It is argued that Andersen's fairy tales have been cross‐culturally woven into Chinese children's as well as adult literature when the intertextual devices are applied by writers in their own literary creations; meanwhile the fictional elements of the tales are intertextually merged, as symbols, into other forms of cultural products where they are involved in a critical construction of modern Chinese culture. In this paper, I examine the Literary Chinese reflexive zì, which exhibits a crosslinguistically uncommon pattern: it performs both anaphoric and emphatic uses in adverbial position. I show that it has several uses: signalling coreference between the subject and the object, the object's possessor or the topic or focus of a complement clause, emphasising that the subject's identity, and indicating that the event affected the subject itself or had no external cause. I argue against categorically dividing these uses into anaphoric and emphatic uses. I propose four properties to unify the various uses: the referent of zì is centrally relevant to the event denoted by the predicate, coreferential with the subject, unexpected in its role in the event, and often contrasts with an alternative referent that may play same role. I compare my account to properties of reflexives in other languages, and argue that zì only partially supports Levinson's (Levinson, Stephen C. 1991. The focus of literary works about Chinese rural-to-urban migrant workers is often on their urban experience, in which they are mostly portrayed as a socially disadvantaged group and a deviant presence in urban life. The reader less frequently encounters a complementary rural narrative on migrant workers' experience of their native countryside. This is remarkable, since the countryside holds demonstrable importance for migrant workers, and studying the associated rural narrative is essential for understanding the intricacies and diversity of the migrant worker experience as a whole. By closely reading two literary texts, Liang Hong's nonfictional China in One Village: The Story of One Town and the Changing World (2010), and Sun Huifen's novel Jikuan's Carriage (2007), this paper shows the complex connection between migrant workers and the countryside, adding a key element to our understanding of this much discussed demographic, its literary representations, and of subaltern cultural production in general. The integrated development of rural culture and tourism is receiving more and more attention from the academics. By combing the research results of the integration of rural culture and tourism, we can grasp its research trend as a whole and provide new ideas for subsequent research. This paper summarised and analyzed the research process, researchers and issuing institutions, research methods and content of the integration of rural culture and tourism. It is found as follows. ➀ Compared to English literature, Chinese literature is more enthusiastic, with a marked growth trend and significant policy orientation, and has gone through three more stable development stages: initial exploration, initial growth and rapid development. ➁ Compared to foreign researchers, leaders have emerged in China, but there is no strong core team and broad network of academic collaborations at home and abroad as a whole. ➂ Research methods are dominated by qualitative methods, but show a trend of combining quantitative and qualitative methods. ➃ The research content mainly includes four aspects: resources of the integration of rural culture and tourism, the relationship between rural tourism and culture, the impact of the integration of rural culture and tourism, and the path of the integration of rural culture and tourism. In retrospect of foreign literature studies in China from 1949 to 2019, we have to acknowledge two fundamental facts. Firstly, although in the initial 30 years of this period foreign literature studies in China largely followed the Soviet model, neglecting Western literary and cultural traditions to some extent--with over a decade under the influence of extreme "leftist" trends--it was during this time that the groundwork for the academic framework of foreign literature studies was painstakingly laid. Secondly, with the influx of Western ideas, foreign literature studies during the subsequent 40 years underwent a complete paradigm shift, providing the spiritual nourishment for and playing a pioneering role in liberating thought and rectifying disorders. However, this period saw a conspicuous adoption of Western paradigms in foreign literature studies, thereby somewhat abandoning certain valuable traditions and academic stances that ought to have been upheld. Meanwhile, foreign literature studies in this period also experienced an undiscriminating acceptance and hasty integration of ideas, leading to a mixture of the good and the bad. This essay provides an important overview of 70 years of foreign literature studies in China, though the specific situations are much more complex. In recent years, as the ideas of cultural confidence and a community of shared future for mankind deeply resonate with the public, the principles of serving the Chinese people and Chinese socialist cause are increasingly becoming significant recognitions within China's foreign literature scholarly community. Objective: Maternal vitamin D deficiency is a prevalent public health issue worldwide. While isolated reports from certain cities in China have highlighted the existence of maternal vitamin D deficiency, no nationwide investigation has been conducted on this topic. Therefore, we conducted a meta-analysis and systematic review to examine the prevalence and associated influencing factors of maternal vitamin D deficiency in mainland China. This study aims to provide a theoretical foundation for future prevention and supplementation strategies for maternal vitamin D. Methods: We retrieved relevant Chinese and English literature on the status of maternal vitamin D deficiency in mainland China from databases such as CNKI, Wanfang Data, VIP, CBM, Web of Science, Google Scholar, and PubMed. The literature search and database construction were conducted until September 8, 2023. Data were extracted and synthesized following PRISMA guidelines.After literature screening and quality assessment, we performed meta-analysis, sensitivity analysis, and identified publication bias using RevMan 5.3 software. Results: A total of 26 articles were reviewed, involving 128,820 pregnant women. Among them, 108,768 had vitamin D insufficiency or deficiency, resulting in a prevalence of 84% (95% CI: 81%~88%). Subgroup analysis revealed the highest prevalence of vitamin D deficiency or insufficiency among pregnant women in mainland China to be in the northwest region (94%, 95% CI: 94%~95%). Furthermore, the highest prevalence was observed during the winter and spring seasons (80%, 95% CI: 77%~83%) and in the early stages of pregnancy (93%, 95% CI: 90%~95%). Significant statistical differences (P<0.05) were found among these three subgroups. No publication bias was detected, and sensitivity analysis indicated the stability of the meta-analysis outcome. Conclusion: This study provides evidence of the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency or insufficiency among pregnant women in mainland China. To improve the overall health and well-being of the population, relevant health authorities should develop policies aimed at alleviating this phenomenon. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: To evaluate the effect of olfactory and/or gustatory stimulation interventions on feeding outcomes in preterm infants. Methods: We conducted systematic searches across various academic databases, including PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, the Chinese Biomedical Literature Service System, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, the Wanfang Database, and the Wipu Database. These searches aimed to identify randomized controlled trials investigating the impact of olfactory and/or gustatory stimulation on preterm infants. The search period spanned from the inception of the databases until December 2022. Two independent evaluators autonomously reviewed the literature, extracted pertinent data, assessed the quality of the included studies, and conducted a meta-analysis using RevMan 5.3 software. Results: A total of 7 randomized controlled trials or quasi-experimental studies were included, with a total of 871 participants. Olfactory and gustatory stimulation demonstrated a reduction in the time to full enteral feeds in preterm infants when compared to usual care (MD = -1.60 days; 95% CI = -2.31, -0.89; p<0.0001). No substantial evidence was identified regarding the influence of olfactory and gustatory stimulation on the duration of gastric tube placement, length of hospitalization, incidence of necrotizing enterocolitis, or occurrence of spontaneous bowel perforation in preterm infants. Conclusions: Olfactory and gustatory stimulation show potential benefits for preterm infants. However, due to the low to very low level of certainty associated with the available data, our ability to assess the effects is limited. Objective: Our study provides an innovative approach to exploring herbal formulas that contribute to the promotion of sustainability and biodiversity conservation. We employ data mining, integrating keyword extraction, association rules, and LSTM-based generative models to analyze classical Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) texts. We systematically decode classical Chinese medical literature, conduct statistical analyses, and link these historical texts with modern pharmacogenomic references to explore potential alternatives. Methods: We present a novel iterative keyword extraction approach for discerning diverse herbs in historical TCM texts from the Pu-Ji Fang copies. Utilizing association rules, we uncover previously unexplored herb pairs. To bridge classical TCM herbal pairs with modern genetic relationships, we conduct gene-herb searches in PubMed and statistically validate this genetic literature as supporting evidence. We have expanded on the present work by developing a generative language model for suggesting innovative TCM formulations based on textual herb combinations. Results: We collected associations with 7,664 PubMed cross-search entries for gene-herb and 934 for Shenqifuzheng Injection as a positive control. We analyzed 16,384 keyword combinations from Pu-Ji Fang's 426 volumes, employing statistical methods to probe gene-herb associations, focusing on examining differences among the target genes and Pu-Ji Fang herbs. Conclusion: Analyzing Pu-Ji Fang reveals a historical focus on flavor over medicinal aspects in TCM. We extend our work on developing a generative model from classical textual keywords to rapidly produces novel herbal compositions or TCM formulations. Background: Constipation is one of the common gastrointestinal complications after stroke. It not only aggravates the condition of stroke, but also brings huge medical burden to patients, and has a negative impact on the quality of life of patients. Auricular therapy, as a part of Chinese traditional acupuncture and moxibustion, has been found to be effective in the clinical treatment of constipation. However, no systematic review has investigated the efficacy and safety of auricular therapy in the treatment of post-stroke constipation. Therefore, the aim of this systematic review is to assess the effectiveness and safety of auricular therapy for post-stroke constipation. Methods and analysis: Eight electronic databases including PubMed, Cochrane Library/Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Web of Science, Embase, China National Knowledge Internet, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, Wanfang, and VIP databases, will be searched for relevant studies published from inception to February 2023. Two reviewers will independently conduct research selection, data extraction, and evaluation of research quality. Only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that assess the efficacy and safety of auricular therapy for the treatment of post-stroke constipation will be included in this study. We will use the Cochrane risk of bias assessment tool to evaluate the methodological qualities (including bias risk). If possible, a meta-analysis will be performed after screening. Results: This study may provide high-quality evidence for the efficacy and safety of auricular therapy in treating post-stroke constipation. Conclusion: The conclusions of our study will provide an evidence to judge whether auricular therapy is an effective and safe intervention for patients with post-stroke constipation. Ethics and dissemination: Ethical approval is not required, as this study was based on a review of published research. Through a meticulous analysis of ancient Chinese literature, this study comprehensively documents the geographical distribution of Fuling, a traditional Chinese medicinal material, during the Tang, Song, Ming, and Qing dynasties spanning from the seventh to the twentieth century in China. Based on the contemporary distribution information of Fuling, we utilized the maximum entropy (MaxEnt) model to simulate the suitable distribution areas of Fuling under both present-day conditions and in the future (2081~2100). The findings reveal that climate change has influenced the distribution of Fuling production areas. The shifts in Fuling's origin during different periods in ancient and modern times align with climate fluctuations and concurrent societal development. During the Tang and Song dynasties, Fuling primarily originated in northern China. However, it migrated southward during the Little Ice Age (LIA) and has recently shown a slight northward shift, in line with the climate fluctuations of the LIA and contemporary global warming trends. This study offers a comprehensive analysis of the changes in the distribution and production areas of Fuling over a 1500-year period, encompassing ancient, modern, and future periods. The results provide critical insights for adjusting Fuling cultivation areas in response to climate change and for further exploration of the mechanisms through which climate impacts the growth of Fuling. This article examines the meaning‐making work of historical, cultural, and visual references in the 2022 anti-Zero-COVID policy protests in China. Characterized by homemade protest placards, the wave of 2022 grassroots protests were striking, typically citing well-known historical quotes, written in red paint, or the use of plain white paper. Using the frameworks of affect theory and analyses of visual culture, I draw attention to underexamined forms of Chinese cultural and visual traditions of protest, and address the following empirical questions: Which national visual cultural references are mobilized in this contemporary protest; how do people repurpose specific cultural idiosyncrasies to voice political dissent; and how do these references contribute to local political meaning‐making and community-making? Via a qualitative analysis of such signs, this study identifies three types of cultural resources permissible by the state that became co‐opted in the protests: 1) literature from anti-imperial times, 2) motivational slogans and symbols from the cultural revolution, and 3) the contemporary technique of censorship. These references are appropriated for the potential afforded by their recognizability, their affective function to articulate the political cause, and their ability to bypass censorship and generate communities across national and regional boundaries. Examining the A4 Revolution as a paradigmatic case, I argue visual historical citation holds significant aesthetic, affective, and political value, particularly in its capacity to mobilize the masses within undemocratic environments. The affective visuals used in the protests can be read as a performative, strategic, and psychosocial device of “critical inheritance from the bottom up,” one that invites citizens to re-access cultural memory and critique the oppressive present.

Background: Epiphyseal, Vertebral, Ear, and Nose (EVEN)‐PLUS syndrome is a rare condition characterized by the involvement of the Epiphyses, Vertebrae, Ears, and Nose, plus other associated findings, due to pathogenic variants in the HSPA9 gene. Due to the sparse number of patients, the clinical phenotypic spectrum is not clear. Methods: We report two patients with pathogenic HSPA9 variants from a Chinese family. Besides the core clinical features of EVEN‐PLUS syndrome, the two cases had seizures, developmental delay, and basal ganglia lesions in cerebral MRI. We also reviewed the previously published reports of patients with biallelic pathogenic HSPA9 variants. Results: Together with the presented cases, 12 cases (9 females) were identified from 6 relevant research items for analysis. All patients had synophrys or arched eyebrows, hypoplastic or dysplastic ears, hypoplastic nasal bone, and dysplastic femoral head. Other specific craniofacial features (such as triangular nares), abnormal skeletal presentations (such as bifid femur, dysplastic epiphyses at the knee, dysplastic acetabula, delayed ossification, short stature, vertebral clefting, scoliosis, and dislocated patellae), congenital heart defects, and renal alterations are common clinical features. Two patients had seizures and basal ganglia lesions in cerebral MRI. Infrequent features, such as aplasia cutis, short thorax and sternum, and widely spaced nipples, are also observed in the syndrome. Thirteen variants associated with EVEN‐PLUS syndrome have been reported. Conclusions: HSPA9 gene mutations should be suspected in all cases with specific craniofacial features, abnormal skeletal presentations, congenital heart defects, and renal alterations. Background: Isoleucinyl‐tRNA synthetase (IARS) is encoded by the IARS1 gene and catalyzes the binding of isoleucine to specific tRNA. Objective: This study aims to investigate the pathogenicity of novel IARS1 variants and the genotype–phenotype association, in order to expand the spectrum of pathogenic variants and phenotypes of IARS1‐related disease and provide new evidence for the phenotypic spectrum of IARS1 variants. Methods: Clinical data of the proband were collected, and trio whole‐exome sequencing (WES) was performed on the proband and the parents. Candidate variants were validated using Sanger sequencing. Bioinformatics software was utilized to analyze the functional consequences of identified variants and predict their potential deleteriousness. Results: A 17‐month‐old female patient presented with microcephaly, left external ear malformation, decreased muscle strength and tone in all limbs, epileptic seizures, global developmental delay, and developmental regression. Trio WES identified compound heterozygous variants in the IARS1 gene, c.120‐1G>A and c.2164C>A, which were novel pathogenic and likely pathogenic variants, respectively. The phenotype of developmental regression has not been reported before. Only one patient with IARS1 compound heterozygous variants has been reported in the world to have an epileptic phenotype, and this is the second patient with an epileptic phenotype. Bioinformatics analysis revealed that the splicing variant disrupted the canonical splice donor site, while the missense variant altered the local electrostatics of the IARS1 protein surface, potentially leading to functional abnormalities. Conclusion: This study identified novel IARS1 variants and the phenotype of developmental regression, expanding the spectrum of pathogenic variants and phenotypes of IARS1‐related diseases and providing new evidence for the rare phenotype of epileptic seizures caused by IARS1 variants. This article examines Zhang Wojun (1902–1955) and the memory of his 'collaboration' with Japan during the Second World War. A Taiwanese-born writer and educator who lived in Beijing for 25 years, his drifting identity was full of ambiguities. Although he was one of the key intellectuals behind Taiwan's New-Old Literatures Debate and responsible for introducing many May Fourth ideas to Taiwan, he also played an important role in bringing Japanese literature and thought into Chinese discourse during the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s. During the war, he continued to teach in Beijing and travelled to Japan to attend the Greater East Asia Writers' conferences. Some of his works from this period call for the Chinese people to support the empire and eradicate Western culture and literature from Asia, but many of his writings also indicate a strong sense of Chinese nationalism. This article considers the memories of Zhang, his various intellectual contributions, and his oeuvre, arguing that his collaboration must be understood and contextualized within his intellectual landscape through a research methodology that examines continuities and change across decades of his life and work. Xiong Liang is an illustrator widely recognized as a pioneer of Chinese picturebooks. His works seek to be both visually appealing and educational in familiarizing readers with traditional aspects of Chinese cultural life. This article focuses on Wu Song Da Hu 武松打虎 [Wu Song Beats the Tiger] and 长坂坡 [Battle of Changbanpo], a picturebook adaptations of the operas of the same titles. In Xiong's work, the human characters are depicted as charming street cats for their playfulness. This article analyses Xiong's picturebooks to unveil the creation of a clever synergy of word, sound, and image to introduce young readers to the traditional art of Chinese opera. The aim of this study was to thoroughly explore the cutting-edge trends, current status, and hotspots of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in the prevention and treatment of hyperuricemia (HUA) with a view to providing an innovative direction for the prevention and treatment of HUA with Chinese medicine in the future. Literatures related to the treatment of HUA with TCM published on China Knowledge Network (CNKI), Wanfang Data (Wanfang), and China Biological Literature Service Database (SinoMed) were searched. With bibliometrics as the theoretical support, the literatures were visualized and analyzed in depth for publication year trend, authors, institutions, and keywords with the help of CiteSpace 6.1.R3 and VOSviewer 1.6.R3. Results showed that the search yielded a total of 1,795 relevant documents, among them 1,782 documents were screened and included in the comprehensive study. The total number of authors with 10 or more publications was 9, among which Zhijian Lin was the most prolific author with 23 publications, and the total number of core authors was 164. The number of publications from universities is high, and the core institution is Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine with 61 publications. There was close cooperation among universities. The research hotspots about TCM treatment of hyperuricemia mainly focused on the cutting-edge scientific research areas such as data mining, molecular docking, and network pharmacology. The results suggested that research teams should strengthen academic exchanges and actively integrate traditional therapies of TCM with modern scientific and technological means to promote the modernization of TCM. In addition, in-depth exploration of innovative concepts involved in the literatures such as the integration of personalized medicine and precision drug design in the treatment of hyperuricemia found that they were expected to lead to a new trend in the future of TCM in the prevention and treatment of hyperuricemia. The publication of The Cambridge History of Chinese Literature in 2010 stands as a significant achievement in the field of Chinese literary studies within the global field of Sinology. This groundbreaking work challenged the prevailing narratives of Chinese literary history in two key areas: writing style and perspectives of literary history. By employing updated methodologies, the authors addressed the practical question of how to effectively rewrite Chinese literary history. Additionally, they relied on historiographic principles to reconsider the theoretical issues surrounding the nature of Chinese literary history and the reasons behind its rewriting. Through a comprehensive investigation, this literary history offers a theoretical response to the question of what Chinese literary history truly entails. It sheds light on two fundamental compilation principles: the history of history and the history of literary culture. These principles revolve around the three core elements of history, literature, and China itself. By examining the book's interactions with the mainstream Western theoretical community, insight may be gained into the motivations behind the writing process and the paradigmatic shifts within contemporary overseas Chinese literary history.
