Thermal effects in hypersonic vehicles, such as severe aerodynamic heating, can greatly influence their thermodynamic behavior. These effects can cause uneven temperature distributions and drastic vibrations, which in turn impact the vibration characteristics of the vehicle structure. To address this issue, a comprehensive approach was developed to study the behavior of honeycomb sandwich structures in high-temperature environments. Firstly, a full-field thermal vibration testing system was established, which allowed for free-boundary multi-temperature region heating at 900 °C while applying unconnected excitation. Through this setup, we were able to obtain modal frequencies and modal shapes of the honeycomb sandwich structures under high-temperature conditions. To accurately simulate the heat transfer distribution of the honeycomb sandwich structure, the Q-learning algorithm was employed, which proved effective in achieving accurate and detailed predictions of the full-field heat transfer distribution. Furthermore, for the purpose of further enhancing the accuracy of the finite element model, a multi-state non-uniform temperature field model updating method was utilized. This updated model accounted for the influence of the multi-temperature region heating, resulting in a more reliable representation of the structure's behavior. Additionally, a variational mode decomposition (VMD) framework was applied to visualize and analyze the modal shapes of the honeycomb sandwich structures. By decomposing the time-domain signals with VMD, it is possible to efficiently obtain the modal shapes of the output-only response signals. Experimental results demonstrated that the identification method used in this study produced modal frequencies and modal shapes that closely matched those obtained using the PolyMAX method at room temperature. Therefore, the proposed approach offers an effective means of identifying the modal characteristics of structures subjected to non-uniform temperature fields, particularly in output-only scenarios. • A π -polarized 1084 nm laser based on Nd:MgO:LiNbO 3 crystal under modulation pulsed pumping mode was realized. • The dual-wavelength fundamental laser output range of 1084 nm and 1093 nm was modulated by adjusting the duty cycle of the pump source. • The π -polarized 1084 nm fundamental laser with a maximum average output power of 1.396 W in the whole pump range was obtained. A π -polarized （ π -pol） 1084 nm laser based on Nd:MgO:LiNbO 3 crystal under modulation pulsed pumping mode was demonstrated. The anisotropic Nd:MgO:LiNbO 3 slab crystal was end-pumped by a pulsed laser diode (LD) with a different duty cycle for experiments. The dual-wavelength fundamental laser emission range was effectively controlled within a certain pump peak power interval, and the unmatched polarized fundamental laser is completely suppressed when the duty cycle is 20 % and below. By considering the effects of the hygro-thermo-electro-magnetic environments, von Karman nonlinear terms, and multi-harmonic excitations, a coupled nonlinear vibration modeling of composite cylindrical shells comprising a carbon nanotube-reinforced composite (CNTRC) core and two piezoelectric/magnetic composite (PEMC) skins is developed, and the nonlinear dynamic behaviors of such cylindrical shells under primary, super/sub-harmonic, and combined resonance states are investigated. In the theoretical modeling process, the effective mechanical properties of the CNTRC core are first determined using the mixing and Schapery laws, and the hygro-thermo-electro-magneto-mechanical constitutive relations of the PEMC skins are then formulated. Within the framework of Reissner-Mindlin shell theory, the Lagrangian of the system containing Green-Lagrange and von Karman nonlinear terms is derived, and solution techniques based on the multiscale method are provided to obtain nonlinear frequencies, dynamic responses, and phases of CNTRC-PEMC cylindrical shells under multi-physics fields. Consequently, comparison studies are conducted to validate the correctness of the proposed model from different aspects. Based on this, various resonance and chaos behaviors of such structures subjected to multiple load components are revealed and compared, and the influences of environmental factors and structure composition on the amplitude-frequency curves, time-history responses, and phase planes are explored, with several recommendations and findings being drawn. Tailoring chiroptical responses at the nanoscale is crucial for on‐chip compact polarization manipulation and enantiomer sensing. Efficient chiral second and third harmonic generation has been successfully demonstrated from bulk materials to metamaterials. Here, pronounced linear and nonlinear circular dichroisms are obtained by rotating a dielectric nanocylinder dimer. It is revealed that the giant chiroptical effects originate from multipolar Mie resonances on the dimer, especially the magnetic dipole resonance. The calculated nonlinear g‐factor can reach −1.975 in the visible regime, indicating an ultra‐pure chiral third harmonic generation in the ultraviolet band. The presented results open new horizons for enhancing and modulating the linear and nonlinear chiroptical responses of nanostructures and can find potential applications in lasing and sensing. Click chemistry has emerged as a valuable tool for rapid compound synthesis, presenting notable advantages and convenience in the exploration of potential drug candidates. In particular, in situ click chemistry capitalizes on enzymes as reaction templates, leveraging their favorable conformation to selectively link individual building blocks and generate novel hits. This review comprehensively outlines and introduces the extensive use of click chemistry in compound library construction, and hit and lead discovery, supported by specific research examples. Additionally, it discusses the limitations and precautions associated with the application of click chemistry in drug discovery. • Eu3+ activators are incorporated into sodium borophosphate Na 3 B 6 PO 13 via replacing Na+ ions. • The Na 3 B 6 PO 13 :Eu3+ phosphor displays low thermal quenching behavior and good color shift resistance. • The assembled w-LEDs produces white light with r a = 82 and CCT = 4250 K. In this work, trivalent europium (Eu3+) activators were incorporated into sodium borophosphate Na 3 B 6 PO 13 via replacing Na+ ions. The large band gap is verified via the experimental diffuse reflectance data and theoretical calculations. The concentration quenching with the optimal 13 % Eu3+activators is caused by quadrupole–quadrupole interaction. A vibrant red-emitting behavior is illustrated when excited at 394 nm. For Na 3 B 6 PO 13 :13 %Eu3+, the low thermal quenching behavior (86 %@423 K) and good chromaticity stability (0.0073@473 K) is revealed. In this work, a comprehensive approach incorporating theoretical calculations and diverse experimental techniques was utilized to research the structures, dynamics, and interactions of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium trifluoromethansulfonate (BMIMTfO) and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)amide (BMIMTFSI) mixtures. The obtained conclusions are as follows: (1) The primary interaction sites for [BMIM]+, [TfO]− and [TFSI]− were identified as the C2 H, O atoms of SO 3 and O atoms of S O, respectively. (2) With the addition of BMIMTFSI, the hydrogen bonding interactions associated with imidazolium C H are weakened, while those associated with alkyl C H and S O are strengthened. Additionally, there is an increased propensity for aggregation between the two anions ([TfO]−, [TFSI]−) and [BMIM]+. (3) The interactions between [BMIM]+ and [TfO]− are stronger compared to those between [BMIM]+ and [TFSI]−, and the self-diffusion coefficient followed the order of [BMIM]+ > [TFSI]− > [TfO]−. Developing a reliable lignocellulose pretreatment method to extract mixed sugars and engineering efficient strains capable of utilizing xylose are crucial for advancing cellulosic ethanol production. In this study, chemical and characterization analyses revealed that alkali cooking can significantly remove lignin from lignocellulose crops. The highest amount of mixed sugar was obtained from corn stover hydrolysates with a 15 % solid loading. Our genetically engineered yeast strain ΔsnR4 , derived from a well-staged WXY70, demonstrated excellent performance in low 10 % solids loading corn stover hydrolysate, producing a high ethanol yield of 0.485 g/g total sugars. When a combined NaOH-ball milling pretreatment strategy was applied at high solids loading, ΔsnR4 exhibited the maximum ethanol titer of 110.9 g/L within 36 h, achieving an ethanol yield of 92.9 % theoretical maximum. Chiral self-assembly is the spontaneous organization of individual building blocks from chiral (bio)molecules to macroscopic objects into ordered superstructures. Chiral self-assembly is ubiquitous in nature, such as DNA and proteins, which formed the foundation of biological structures. In addition to chiral (bio) molecules, chiral ordered superstructures constructed by self-assembly have also attracted much attention. Chiral self-assembly usually refers to the process of forming chiral aggregates in an ordered arrangement under various non-covalent bonding such as H-bond, π-π interactions, van der Waals forces (dipole–dipole, electrostatic effects, etc.), and hydrophobic interactions. Chiral assembly involves the spontaneous process, which followed the minimum energy rule. It is essentially an intermolecular interaction force. Bioceramic granules have been used as fillers for the repair of various bone defects, but structural instability leads to susceptibility to displacement or dislodgement in practice. Armor unit is a concrete block placed along the breakwater to resist waves and protect the dike. Inspired by this, an armor unit‐mimicking (AU) bioceramic granule by three‐dimentional (3D) printing is developed, and combine it with adipose‐derived stem cells (ADSCs) overexpressing fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) to construct tissue‐engineered bone. In vitro results show that AU granules and FGF23 transfection synergistically promote osteogenic differentiation of ADSCs. For the repair of beagle femoral metaphyseal defects, the implanted AU granules are stacked and interlocked to form an impact‐resistant porous scaffold. With the assistance of ADSCsFGF23, AU granules exhibit enhanced new bone formation and host bone maintenance. Taken together, these findings demonstrate the potential of 3D‐printed AU granules in combination with FGF23‐overexpressing ADSCs as a novel bone void filler for ease of handling and enhanced bone regeneration. A compound varifocal lens based on electromagnetic drive technology is designed and fabricated, where the polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) film acts as a driving component, while the PDMS biconvex lens and the plane-concave lens form a coaxial compound lens system. The plane-concave lens equipped with driving coils is installed directly above the PDMS lens surrounded by the annular magnet. When different currents are applied, the annular magnet moves up and down, driving the PDMS film to undergo elastic deformation, and then resulting in longitudinal movement of the PDMS lens. The position change of the PDMS lens changes the focal length of the compound lens system. To verify the feasibility and practicability of this design, a prototype of our compound lens system is fabricated in experiment. Our proposed compound lens shows that its zoom ability reaches 9.28 mm when the current ranges from −0.20 A to 0.21 A. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: To develop a nomogram based on preoperative clinical and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features for the microvascular invasion (MVI) status in solitary intrahepatic mass-forming cholangiocarcinoma (sIMCC) and to evaluate whether it could predict recurrence-free survival (RFS). Methods: We included 115 cases who experienced MRI examinations for sIMCC with R0 resection. The preoperative clinical and MRI features were extracted. Independent predictors related to MVI+ were evaluated by stepwise multivariate logistic regression, and a nomogram was constructed. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to assess the predictive ability. All patients were classified into high- and low-risk groups of MVI. Then, the correlations of the nomogram with RFS in patents with sIMCC were analyzed by Kaplan–Meier method. Results: The occurrence rate of MVI+ was 38.3% (44/115). The preoperative independent predictors of MVI+ were carbohydrate antigen 19-9 > 37 U/ml, tumor size > 5 cm, and an ill-defined tumor boundary. Integrating these predictors, the nomogram exerted a favorable diagnostic performance with areas under the ROC curve of 0.767 (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.654–0.881) in the development cohort, and 0.760 (95% CI 0.591–0.929) in the validation cohort. In the RFS analysis, significant differences were observed between the high- and low-risk MVI groups (6-month RFS rates: 64.5% vs. 78.8% and 46.7% vs. 82.4% in the development and validation cohorts, respectively) (P < 0.05). Conclusions: A nomogram based on clinical and MRI features is a potential biomarker of MVI and may be a potent method to classify the risk of recurrence in patients with sIMCC. Background: Studies increasingly recognize the role of N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification in cancer occurrence and development. METTL3 is a core catalytic subunit of m6A-modified methyltransferases complex, but its regulatory mechanism in ovarian cancer (OC) is not clear. Methods: In this study, GEPIA 2.0 database was applied for expression analysis, survival analysis and correlation analysis for OC. Additionally, in vitro and in vivo assays were conducted to explore regulatory mechanisms of METTL3 in OC. Results: We found that METTL3 and MALAT1 were significantly overexpressed in OC tissues and cells compared to normal ovarian tissues and cells. The proliferation rate of OC cells was reduced significantly after knocking down the expression of METTL3 or MALAT1. Subsequently, MALAT1 as oncogene was found to interact with METTL3 and was upregulated in OC tissues and cells. Silencing MALAT1 inhibited OC cell proliferation. Further studies indicated that METTL3 enhanced the stability of MALAT1 by promoting the m6A modification of MALAT1 and that ELAVL1 as a downstream binding protein significantly up-regulated MALAT1 expression. Conclusion: In conclusion, METTL3 was a carcinogenic molecule that promoted the occurrence of OC. The introduced Cr 3 C 2 phase into FeNi alloys suppress the thermal coarsening of alloy nanoparticles and induce the charge rearrangement around interface, thereby increasing the number of active sites and intrinsic activity of per sites, respectively. [Display omitted] Exploring high active electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is of great significance for a sustainable hydrogen economy. The development of non-precious transition metals, with sufficient active sites and ample intrinsic activity, remains a challenge. Herein, a new type of FeNi–Cr 3 C 2 heterostructure anchored on carbon sheets (FeNi–Cr 3 C 2 @C) was reported, which can effectively catalyze OER with swift kinetics and outstanding intrinsic activity. The introduced Cr 3 C 2 phase not only serves as a support material but also effectively suppresses the thermal coarsening of FeNi alloy nanoparticle. The FeNi–Cr 3 C 2 @C displays a robust OER activity with a low overpotential of 283 mV at the current density of 10 mA cm−2, a high turnover frequency value of 1.69 s−1 at the overpotential of 300 mV (10 times higher than that of FeNi@C) and good stability in alkaline media. Density functional theory calculations (DFT) calculations show that Cr 3 C 2 can facilitate the generation of electron-rich region at the Ni site in FeNi alloys as an active site, exhibiting an optimized adsorption behavior toward oxygen intermediate species with regard to decreased thermodynamic energy barriers. Based on the original γ-Reθ transition model framework, in this work, an improved local correlation-based transition closure model is developed for high-speed flows. The local correlation between the vorticity Reynolds number and the momentum thickness Reynolds number obtained by compressible boundary-layer self-similar solutions, local compressibility correction including the pressure gradient parameter and momentum thickness Reynolds number, and local crossflow correlation are applied to improve the original γ-Reθ model for hypersonic transition predictions. The function Fonset1 used to control the transition onset and several relevant model parameters are also modified to make the improved model suitable for high-speed flow. The improved transition model is validated through several basic test cases under a wide range of flow conditions, including high-speed flat plates, sharp cones, double ramp, Hypersonic International Flight Research Experimentation, and complex hypersonic configuration X-33 vehicles. The numerical results show that the transition onset locations and the changes of heat transfer rate predicted by the present improved transition model are reasonably consistent with experimental results. Purpose: This study aimed to establish a nomogram based on preoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features to predict the very early recurrence (VER, less than 6 months) of intrahepatic mass-forming cholangiocarcinoma (IMCC) after R0 resection. Methods: This study enrolled a group of 193 IMCC patients from our institution between March 2010 and January 2022. Patients were allocated into the development cohort (n = 137) and the validation cohort (n = 56), randomly, and the preoperative clinical and MRI features were collected. Univariate and multivariate stepwise logistic regression assessments were adopted to assess predictors of VER. Nomogram was constructed and certificated in the validation cohort. The performance of the prediction nomogram was evaluated by its discrimination, calibration, and clinical utility. The performance of the nomogram was compared with the T stage of the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) 8th edition staging system. Results: Fifty-three patients (27.5%) experienced VER of the tumor and 140 patients (72.5%) with non-VER, during the follow-up period. After multivariate stepwise logistic regression, number of lesions, diffuse hypoenhancement on arterial phase, necorsis and suspicious lymph nodes were independently associated with VER. The nomogram demonstrated significantly higher area under the curve (AUC) of 0.813 than T stage (AUC = 0.666, P = 0.006) in the development cohort, whereas in the validation cohort, the nomogram showed better discrimination performance, with an AUC of 0.808 than T stage (0.705) with no significantly difference (P = 0.230). Decision curve analysis reflected the clinical net benefit of the nomogram. Conclusion: The nomogram based on preoperative MRI features is a reliable tool to predict VER for patients with IMCC after R0 resection. Machine learning (ML) is widely used to predict the prognosis of numerous diseases. This retrospective analysis aimed to develop a prognostic prediction model using ML algorithms and identify predictors associated with poor surgical outcomes in patients with degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM). A retrospective study. A total of 406 symptomatic DCM patients who underwent surgical decompression were enrolled and analyzed from three independent medical centers. We calculated the area under the curve (AUC), classification accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of each model. The Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) score was obtained before and 1 year following decompression surgery, and patients were grouped into good and poor outcome groups based on a cut-off value of 60% based on a previous study. Two datasets were fused for training, 1 dataset was held out as an external validation set. Optimal feature-subset and hyperparameters for each model were adjusted based on a 2,000-resample bootstrap-based internal validation via exhaustive search and grid search. The performance of each model was then tested on the external validation set. The Support Vector Machine (SVM) model showed the highest predictive accuracy compared to other methods, with an AUC of 0.82 and an accuracy of 75.7%. Age, sex, disease duration, and preoperative JOA score were identified as the most commonly selected features by both the ML and statistical models. Grid search optimization for hyperparameters successfully enhanced the predictive performance of each ML model, and the SVM model still had the best performance with an AUC of 0.93 and an accuracy of 86.4%. Overall, the study demonstrated that ML classifiers such as SVM can effectively predict surgical outcomes for patients with DCM while identifying associated predictors in a multivariate manner. PKM2 is a glycolytic pyruvate kinase isoenzyme, and its role in neurological diseases has been published. However, the role and mechanism of PKM2 in the process of status epilepticus have not been reported. The purpose of this study is to explore the role and mechanism of PKM2 in epilepsy. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and western blotting were used to explore the expression of PKM2 in cells. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kits were used to evaluate the level of inflammatory factors. An epilepsy model was established by intraperitoneal injection of lithium chloride in rats. Various behavioural assays were conducted to explore the learning ability and cognitive level of rats. PKM2 expression was upregulated in Mg2+-induced hippocampal neurons. PKM2 inhibition ameliorated Mg2+-induced hippocampal neuronal inflammation and reduced neuronal apoptosis. In addition, PKM2 silencing inhibited the metabolic dysfunction of Mg2+-induced hippocampal neurons. Subsequent experiments showed that the Akt/mTOR pathway and NLRP3 inflammasome are involved in PKM2-mediated neuronal regulation. More importantly, PKM2 inhibition could alleviate status epilepticus in rats. PKM2 inhibition attenuates Mg2+-induced hippocampal neuronal inflammation, apoptosis and metabolic dysfunction and improves the cognitive ability of rats. The meso‐structure of pervious concrete significantly influences its overall performance. Accurately identifying the meso‐structure of pervious concrete is imperative for optimizing the design of pervious concrete, considering its mechanical properties and functionality. Therefore, to address the difficulty of recognizing the meso‐structures of pervious concrete, a method utilizing deep learning image semantic segmentation techniques is proposed in this study. First, based on the classical deep learning model, three models, namely, Res‐UNet, ED‐SegNet, and G‐ENet, are proposed for recognizing pervious concrete meso‐structure using deep learning image semantic segmentation techniques. These models introduce a residual module, a hybrid loss function, and a differential recognition branching structure to enhance the ability to recognize detailed information within pervious concrete meso‐structure and small targets. Second, the respective recognition performances of these methods on the meso‐structure of pervious concrete were thoroughly analyzed by experiment. The results indicate that the proposed three recognition methods for recognizing the meso‐structure of permeable concrete outperform conventional techniques not only in terms of efficiency but also in recognition accuracy and the ability to distinguish and identify aggregates, pores, and cement binders. In terms of comprehensive recognition effectiveness, the Res‐UNet model outperforms, followed by ED‐SegNet and G‐ENet. Summary Rare variants contribute significantly to the ‘missing heritability’ of quantitative traits. The genome‐wide characteristics of rare variants and their roles in environmental adaptation of woody plants remain unexplored. Utilizing genome‐wide rare variant association study (RVAS), expression quantitative trait loci (eQTL) mapping, genetic transformation, and molecular experiments, we explored the impact of rare variants on stomatal morphology and drought adaptation in Populus. Through comparative analysis of five world‐wide Populus species, we observed the influence of mutational bias and adaptive selection on the distribution of rare variants. RVAS identified 75 candidate genes correlated with stomatal size (SS)/stomatal density (SD), and a rare haplotype in the promoter of serine/arginine‐rich splicing factor PtoRSZ21 emerged as the foremost association signal governing SS. As a positive regulator of drought tolerance, PtoRSZ21 can recruit the core splicing factor PtoU1‐70K to regulate alternative splicing (AS) of PtoATG2b (autophagy‐related 2). The rare haplotype PtoRSZ21hap2 weakens binding affinity to PtoMYB61, consequently affecting PtoRSZ21 expression and SS, ultimately resulting in differential distribution of Populus accessions in arid and humid climates. Summary Favourable outcomes with CPX‐351 versus conventional 7 + 3 were demonstrated in the pivotal phase III trial in adults aged 60–75 years with newly diagnosed, highrisk/secondary acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). As a complement to the clinical trial and to address important data gaps, the CPX‐351 Real‐World Effectiveness and SafeTy (CREST‐UK; NCT05169307) study evaluated the use of CPX‐351 in routine clinical practice in the UK, in 147 patients with newly diagnosed therapy‐related AML or AML with myelodysplasia‐related changes. Best response of complete remission or complete remission with incomplete platelet or neutrophil recovery was achieved by 53% of evaluable patients. Kaplan–Meier median overall survival (OS) was 12.8 months (95% confidence interval 9.2–15.3). Fifty (34%) patients proceeded to haematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT); median OS landmarked from the HCT date was not reached. There were no new safety concerns with CPX‐351 identified in CREST‐UK. Patients treated with CPX‐351 in the outpatient setting spent an average of 24.4, 16.7, 28.2, and 27.7 fewer days on the ward compared with inpatients during first induction, second induction, first consolidation, and second consolidation, respectively. Staphylococcus epidermidis is an opportunistic pathogen commonly implicated in medical device-related infections. Its propensity to form biofilms not only leads to chronic infections but also exacerbates the issue of antibiotic resistance, necessitating high-dose antimicrobial treatments. In this study, we explored the use of diclofenac sodium, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, as an anti-biofilm agent against S. epidermidis. In this study, crystal violet staining and confocal laser scanning microscope analysis showed that diclofenac sodium, at subinhibitory concentration (0.4 mM), significantly inhibited biofilm formation in both methicillin-susceptible and methicillin-resistant S. epidermidis isolates. MTT assays demonstrated that 0.4 mM diclofenac sodium reduced the metabolic activity of biofilms by 25.21–49.01% compared to untreated controls. Additionally, the treatment of diclofenac sodium resulted in a significant decrease (56.01–65.67%) in initial bacterial adhesion, a crucial early phase of biofilm development. Notably, diclofenac sodium decreased the production of polysaccharide intercellular adhesin (PIA), a key component of the S. epidermidis biofilm matrix, in a dose-dependent manner. Real-time quantitative PCR analysis revealed that diclofenac sodium treatment downregulated biofilm-associated genes icaA, fnbA, and sigB and upregulated negative regulatory genes icaR and luxS, providing potential mechanistic insights. These findings indicate that diclofenac sodium inhibits S. epidermidis biofilm formation by affecting initial bacterial adhesion and the PIA synthesis. Advancements in hydrogel bioadhesives for sealing gastrointestinal perforations (GP) face challenges due to weak mechanical properties, causing leakage, especially on uneven wound surfaces. Herein, a Janus hydrogel is introduced featuring a two‐step cross‐linking process, designed to serve as an efficient bioadhesive using a sprayable method. This Janus hydrogel formulation is achieved by modifying a photocurable hyaluronic acid hydrogel with dopamine (DA) and phenylboronic acid (PBA) groups, enabling reversible boronate ester bonds. These dynamic cross‐linking bonds facilitate shear‐thinning and self‐healing abilities, ensuring secure adhesion to complex wounds. A subsequent photocurable irreversible cross‐linking stage results in the formation of a hydrogel barrier with asymmetric adhesive properties, imparting inherent mechanical strength for postoperative anti‐adhesion. To enhance the clinical practicality of this hydrogel, an integrated sprayer device is further developed, enabling the efficient delivery of hydrogel at any angle and over long distances under minimally invasive conditions. Therefore, the HADP hydrogel, integrated with the sprayer device, successfully addressed the limitations associated with hydrogel bioadhesives in clinical applications concerning angles and terrains. Background: Sarcopenia is highly prevalent among patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). Computed tomography (CT)‐based assessment of low skeletal muscle index (SMI) is widely used for diagnosing sarcopenia. However, there are conflicting findings on the association between low SMI and overall survival (OS) in CRC patients. The objective of this study was to investigate whether CT‐determined low SMI can serve as a valuable prognostic factor in CRC. Methods: We collected data from patients with CRC who underwent radical surgery at our institution between June 2020 and November 2021. The SMI at the third lumbar vertebra was calculated using CT scans, and the cutoff values for defining low SMI were determined using receiver operating characteristic curves. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to assess the associations between clinical characteristics and postoperative major complications. Results: A total of 464 patients were included in the study, 229 patients (46.7%) were classified as having low SMI. Patients with low SMI were older and had a lower body mass index (BMI), a higher neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR), and higher nutritional risk screening 2002 (NRS2002) scores compared to those with normal SMI. Furthermore, patients with sarcopenia had a higher rate of major complications (10.9% vs. 1.3%; p < 0.001) and longer length of stay (9.09 ± 4.86 days vs. 8.25 ± 3.12 days; p = 0.03). Low SMI and coronary heart disease were identified as independent risk factors for postoperative major complications. Moreover, CRC patients with low SMI had significantly worse OS. Furthermore, the combination of low SMI with older age or TNM stage II + III resulted in the worst OS in each subgroup analysis. This study constructs a model for the rapid identification of the origins of edible sunflower (Helianthus) using Kernel Extreme Learning Machine (KELM) with multi-source information fusion technology. Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMRS) were utilized to analyze 180 sunflower samples from the Xinjiang, Heilongjiang, and Inner Mongolia regions. Initially, the identification models for the origin of sunflowers using NIR and NMR data were compared between two algorithms: the Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) and KELM, combined with various spectral preprocessing methods. The experiment found that the NIR spectral model preprocessed with standard normal variate (SNV) using the KELM algorithm was the most accurate, achieving accuracies of 98.7% in the training set and 97.2% in the test set. The spin-echo NMR spectral model preprocessed with non-local means (NLMs) using the KELM algorithm was the second best, with accuracies of 98.4% in the training set and 96.4% in the test set. To further improve the accuracy of the identification models, innovative sunflower origin identification models were developed based on data layer fusion and feature layer fusion using NIRS and NMRS. In the data layer fusion model, the KELM algorithm model was optimal, achieving a test set accuracy and F1 score of 98.2% and 98.18%, respectively, an improvement of 1.0% over the best single data source model. In the feature layer fusion model, four types of feature-layer information-fusion identification models were established using two feature extraction algorithms, Competitive Adaptive Reweighted Sampling (CARS) and Variable Importance Projection (VIP), combined with joint feature and simple merging feature strategies. The CARS-KELM algorithm combined with the joint feature method was found to be the best, achieving 100% accuracy in both the training and test sets, an improvement of 2.8% over the best single data source model. Identifying the origin of edible sunflower using NIRS and NMRS is demonstrated as feasible by the results. The best single-spectrum sunflower origin identification model was achieved using the KELM algorithm with SNV preprocessing. The feature layer fusion method combining NIRS and NMRS data is suitable for handling the task of sunflower origin identification. This method significantly improves the recognition accuracy of the model compared to a single model, achieving fast and accurate origin identification of edible sunflowers. Russula is the largest genus in the Russulales and is widespread throughout the world. Almost all Russula species are known to be ectomycorrhizal with high ecological and edible values, and some are lethal poisonous. In this study, four new species belonging to the subgenus Russula crown clade are identified based on morphological and phylogenetic evidence from the Xizang Autonomous Region and other provinces of China. Morphologically, Russula paragraveolens (sect. Polychromae, subsect. Xerampelinae) is mainly characterised by a cherry red to blood red pileus centre, a reddish orange pileus margin; R. pseudograveolens (sect. Polychromae, subsect. Xerampelinae) is characterised by a violet brown to brownish red pileus centre, a pale red to pastel red pileus margin and short basidia; R. shigatseensis (sect. Flavisiccantes, subsect. Lepidinae) is characterised by a brownish orange to madder red pileus centre, pinkish red pileus margin, and having lateral branches or branches of hyphal terminations in pileipellis; R. yadongensis (sect. Tenellae, subsect. Laricinae) is characterised by a dark purplish red pileus centre with brownish purple tints and having isolated to clustered spines of spore ornamentations. Efficient adsorbents for excess bilirubin removal are extremely important for the treatment of hyperbilirubinemia. However, traditional adsorbents, such as activated carbons and ion-exchange resins, still suffer from dissatisfactory adsorption performance and poor blood compatibility. Herein, we adopted a rational design strategy guided by density functional theory (DFT) calculations to prepare blood-compatible quaternary ammonium group grafted electrospun polyacrylonitrile nanofiber adsorbents. The calculation analysis and adsorption experiments were used to investigate the structure–function relationship between group types and bilirubin adsorption, both indicating that quaternary ammonium groups with suitable configurations played a crucial role in bilirubin binding. The obtained nanofiber adsorbents showed the bilirubin removal efficiency above 90% even at a coexisting BSA concentration of 50 g L−1. The maximum adsorption capacities were 818.9 mg g−1 in free bilirubin solution and 163.7 mg g−1 in albumin bound bilirubin solution. The nanofiber adsorbents also showed considerable bilirubin removal in dynamic adsorption to reduce the bilirubin concentration to a normal level, which was better than commercial activated carbons. Our study demonstrates the high feasibility of a theory-driven design method for the development of grafted electrospun nanofibers, which have good potential as bilirubin adsorbents in hemoperfusion applications. Zinpentraxin alfa is a recombinant form of the human pentraxin‐2 that was studied in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). To improve the purity and yield of the drug material, a 2nd‐generation drug product was developed. To characterize and compare the pharmacokinetic (PK) properties of the 1st‐ and 2nd‐generation zinpentraxin alfa, PK studies were conducted in healthy volunteers (HVs). In a phase 1 randomized, double‐blind, 2‐sequence crossover, sequential 2‐stage study (ISRCTN59409907), single intravenous (IV) doses of 1st‐ and 2nd‐generation zinpentraxin alfa at 10 mg/kg were studied with a blinded interim analysis (IA) at the end of stage 1. Bioequivalence (BE) was achieved for the maximum observed plasma concentration (Cmax), but the overall exposure was higher for the 2nd‐ compared to the 1st‐generation zinpentraxin alfa. The study was stopped after stage 1 as the gating criteria were met based on the result of the blinded IA. As an enhanced version of standard CAN, the Controller Area Network with Flexible Data (CAN-FD) rate is vulnerable to attacks due to its lack of information security measures. However, although anomaly detection is an effective method to prevent attacks, the accuracy of detection needs further improvement. In this paper, we propose a novel intrusion detection model for the CAN-FD bus, comprising two sub-models: Anomaly Data Detection Model (ADDM) for spotting anomalies and Anomaly Classification Detection Model (ACDM) for identifying and classifying anomaly types. ADDM employs Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) layers to capture the long-range dependencies and temporal patterns within CAN-FD frame data, thus identifying frames that deviate from established norms. ACDM is enhanced with the attention mechanism that weights LSTM outputs, further improving the identification of sequence-based relationships and facilitating multi-attack classification. The method is evaluated on two datasets: a real-vehicle dataset including frames designed by us based on known attack patterns, and the CAN-FD Intrusion Dataset, developed by the Hacking and Countermeasure Research Lab. Our method offers broader applicability and more refined classification in anomaly detection. Compared with existing advanced LSTM-based and CNN-LSTM-based methods, our method exhibits superior performance in detection, achieving an improvement in accuracy of 1.44% and 1.01%, respectively. Purpose: To compare the morphometry of paraspinal muscles in patients with degenerative spondylolisthesis (DS), isthmic spondylolisthesis (IS), and healthy individuals. Methods: Thirty-seven pairs of DS patients were selected using propensity score matching with IS patients, while 37 healthy individuals matched for age, sex, and BMI were selected as controls. The relative cross-sectional area (rCSA), and relative functional cross-sectional area (rfCSA) of paraspinal muscles were measured, and the degree of fatty infiltration (FI) was calculated. Based on occupational differences, the patients were also divided into worker and farmer groups, and the same measurements were taken on them. Results: At the L3/L4 level, the multifidus (MF) FI was greater in the DS and IS groups than in the control group, the erector spinae (ES) rfCSA was higher in the IS group than in the DS and control groups. At the L4/L5 level, MF rfCSA was smaller in the DS and IS groups than in the control group; ES rfCSA was higher in the IS group than in the DS and control groups. At the L5/S1 level, MF rfCSA was smaller in the DS and IS groups than in the control group; ES rfCSA was higher in the IS group than in the DS group. At the L3/L4, L4/L5 level, MF rfCSA were higher in the worker group than in the farmer group (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The morphological changes in paraspinal muscles in patients with DS were dominated by selective atrophy of the MF, while in patients with IS, the morphological changes in paraspinal muscle showed selective atrophy of the MF accompanied by compensatory hypertrophy of the ES. The surgeon should consider the morphological differences in paraspinal muscle between different types of lumbar spondylolisthesis when establishing the appropriate surgical program. Recently, the methods based on space-time memory network have achieved advanced performance in semi-supervised video object segmentation, which has attracted wide attention. However, this kind of methods still have a fatal limitation. It has the interference problem of similar objects caused by the way of non-local matching, which seriously limits the performance of video object segmentation. To solve this problem, we propose a Kernel-guided Attention Matching Network (KAMNet) by the use of local matching instead of non-local matching. At first, KAMNet uses spatio-temporal attention mechanism to enhance the model’s discrimination between foreground objects and background areas. Then KAMNet utilizes gaussian kernel to guide the matching between the current frame and the reference set. Because the gaussian kernel decays away from the center, it can limit the matching to the central region, thus achieving local matching. Our KAMNet gets speed-accuracy trade-off on benchmark datasets DAVIS 2016 ( J & F of 87.6%) and DAVIS 2017 ( J & F of 76.0%) with 0.12 second per frame. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Limited evidence exists on the relationship between vitamin D status and mortality in depressed patients. This study investigates serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] concentrations in 8417 adults with depression among the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES, 2005–2018). Mortality outcomes were assessed through National Death Index records up to December 31, 2019. Cox proportional risk models estimated risk ratios (HR) and 95 % confidence intervals (CI) for all-cause, cardiovascular disease (CVD), and cancer mortality. Restricted cubic spline analyses explored the nonlinear association of serum 25(OH)D levels with mortality, using the likelihood ratio test for nonlinearity. The weighted mean serum 25(OH)D level was 66.40 nmol/L (95 % CI: 65.8, 67.0), with 36.3 % having deficient vitamin D (<50 nmol/L [20 ng/mL]). Over an average 7.16-year follow-up, 935 deaths were documented, including 296 CVD deaths and 191 cancer deaths. Higher serum 25(OH)D levels were associated with reduced all-cause mortality (HRs 0.55–1.00, p trend = 0.006) and cancer-specific mortality (HRs 0.36–1.00, p trend = 0.015) after multivariate adjustment. The relationship between serum 25(OH)D and all-cause mortality exhibited a nonlinear pattern (P for nonlinearity <0.001), with a 34 % lower risk for each unit increase in natural log-transformed 25(OH)D levels. Significant interactions were observed with age, antidepressant use, and diabetes status. Higher serum 25(OH)D levels were associated with decreased all-cause and cancer-specific mortality in depressed adults, particularly among younger individuals and those using antidepressants or without diabetes. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the role of ultrasonicated Lactobacillus rhamnosus extract in osteoclast differentiation and its underlying mechanism, providing new strategies for the treatment of periodontitis. Materials and Methods: Osteoclasts were induced using macrophage colony‐stimulating factor and receptor activator for nuclear factor‐κB ligand. Lactobacillus rhamnosus extracts were obtained via ultrasonic crushing and ultracentrifugation. The effects of the LGG extract on osteoclast differentiation were evaluated, and the related signaling pathways were examined using western blotting. A mouse periodontitis model was established, and Lactobacillus rhamnosus extract was injected into the gingival sulcus to evaluate the inhibitory effect of Lactobacillus rhamnosus extract on alveolar bone resorption. Results: At 50 μg/mL, Lactobacillus rhamnosus extract inhibited osteoclast differentiation with no effect on apoptosis and proliferation. This phenomenon was achieved by deactivating the NF‐κB/c‐Fos/NFATc1 signaling pathway through toll‐like receptor 2. The in vivo results showed that the local injection of Lactobacillus rhamnosus extract suppressed osteoclast differentiation and alveolar bone resorption. Conclusion: The ultrasonicated extract of Lactobacillus rhamnosus inhibited osteoclast differentiation by suppressing the activation of the NF‐κB/c‐Fos/NFATc1 pathway. [Display omitted] Bile acids (BAs) have surpassed their traditional roles as lipid solubilizers and regulators of BA homeostasis to emerge as important signalling molecules. Recent research has revealed a connection between microbial dysbiosis and metabolism disruption of BAs, which in turn impacts ageing-related diseases. The human BAs pool is primarily composed of primary BAs and their conjugates, with a smaller proportion consisting of secondary BAs. These different BAs exert complex effects on health and ageing-related diseases through several key nuclear receptors, such as farnesoid X receptor and Takeda G protein-coupled receptor 5. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms of these effects are still debated. Therefore, the modulation of signalling pathways by regulating synthesis and composition of BAs represents an interesting and novel direction for potential therapies of ageing-related diseases. This review provides an overview of synthesis and transportion of BAs in the healthy body, emphasizing its dependence on microbial community metabolic capacity. Additionally, the review also explores how ageing and ageing-related diseases affect metabolism and composition of BAs. Understanding BA metabolism network and the impact of their nuclear receptors, such as farnesoid X receptor and G protein-coupled receptor 5 agonists, paves the way for developing therapeutic agents for targeting BA metabolism in various ageing-related diseases, such as metabolic disorder, hepatic injury, cardiovascular disease, renal damage and neurodegenerative disease. • Although CARMIL family genes have been partially studied in cancer species, compared with CARMIL1, this study is the first time to report the malignant role of CARMIL1 in the occurrence and development of hepatocellular carcinoma. • In this study, we studied the role of CARMIL1 in hepatocellular carcinoma from many aspects, the proliferation ability of hepatoma cells was verified at the cellular level, but also the effect of this gene on the proliferation of hepatoma cells was proved in allogeneic tumors. • In this study, we verified that the combination of inhibition of CARMIL1 and sorafenib could significantly inhibit the proliferation of hepatocellular carcinoma cells in cells and subcutaneous tumors of nude mice. Capping protein regulatory factor and myosin 1 linker 1 is termed CARMIL1. CARMIL1 is involved in several physiological processes; it forms an actin filament network and plasma membrane-bound cellular projection tissues and positively regulates the cellular components and tissues. CARMIL1 exhibits important biological functions in cancer; nonetheless, these functions have not been completely explored. We aimed to investigate the novel functions of CARMIL1 in liver cancer, particularly in cell proliferation. The cell counting kit-8, 5-ethynyl-2′-deoxyuridine, Component A experiments, and subcutaneous tumor formation model suggest that CARMIL1 is central to the proliferation of liver cancer cells both in vivo and in vitro. We extracted CARMIL1 samples from The Cancer Genome Atlas Program and analyzed its enrichment. CARMIL1 regulated the pathway activity by affecting the expression of star molecular proteins of the extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) and mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR). Moreover, it influenced the proliferation ability of liver cancer cells. Western blotting suggested that CARMIL1 downregulation could affect ERK and mTOR phosphorylation. Results of the co-immunoprecipitation demonstrated that CARMIL1 binds to tripartite motif (TRIM)27, which in turn binds to p53. Subsequently, CARMIL1 can regulate p53 stability and promote its degradation through TRIM27. Additionally, CARMIL1 inhibition enhanced the sensitivity of liver cancer cells to sorafenib. Tumor growth was significantly inhibited in the group treated with sorafenib and CARMIL1, compared with the group treated with CARMIL1 alone. Sorafenib is a first-line targeted chemotherapeutic drug for hepatocellular carcinoma treatment. It increases the long-term survival of hepatocellular carcinoma by 44%. In this study, downregulated CARMIL1 combined with sorafenib significantly reduced the tumor volume and weight of the mouse subcutaneous tumor model, indicating the potential possibility of combining CARMIL1 with sorafenib in hepatocellular carcinoma treatment. In the rapidly advancing field of colloid and interface chemistry, food-grade nanoparticles are garnering increased attention for their potential applications in food preservation and innovative material development. Pickering emulsions, stabilized by solid particles, are especially noteworthy for their versatile applicability, spanning from food preservation to innovative material engineering. However, crafting a reliable, application-specific Pickering emulsion that amalgamates both stability and functionality poses a substantial challenge. In this research, we present an in-depth analysis of octadecenylsuccinic anhydride (ODSA) modified γ-cyclodextrin metal-organic frameworks (OCMs) stabilized ODSA Pickering emulsions, probing their stability across varying pH values and ionic strengths, and evaluating their groundbreaking applications, notably in paper coating and enhancing food shelf life. Our results unequivocally indicate a pronounced improvement in paper water resistance and fruit preservation after treatment with the OCMs-ODSA emulsion, heralding a novel methodology in these areas. Additionally, our studies illuminate the intrinsic antimicrobial attributes of OCMs, accentuating their cardinal role in augmenting the emulsion's preservation capabilities and heralding potential widespread applications in microbial mitigation, decay deterrence, and beyond. Predicting urban-scale carbon emissions (CEs) is crucial in drawing implications for various urgent environmental issues, including global warming. However, prior studies have overlooked the impact of the micro-level street environment, which might lead to biased prediction. To fill this gap, we developed an effective machine learning (ML) framework to predict neighborhood-level residential CEs based on a single data source, street view images (SVIs), which are publicly available worldwide. Specifically, more than 30 streetscape elements were classified from SVIs using semantic segmentation to describe the micro-level street environment, whose visual features can indicate major socioeconomic activities that significantly affect residential CEs. A ten-fold cross-validation was deployed to train ML models to predict the residential CEs at the 1 km grid level. We found, first, that random forest (R2 = 0.8) outperforms many traditional models, confirming that visual features are non-negligible in explaining CEs. Second, more building, wall, and fence views indicate higher CEs. Third, the presence of trees and grass is inversely related to CEs. Our findings justify the feasibility of using SVIs as a single data source to effectively predict neighborhood-level residential CEs. The framework is applicable to large regions across diverse urban forms, informing urban planners of sustainable urban form strategies to achieve carbon-neutral goals, especially for the development of new towns. The solution method offers significant advantages in the preparation of perovskite materials. It is a cost-effective approach that can be carried out at low temperatures or under ambient conditions. Additionally, it is also easier to implement for industrial production. This method plays a crucial role in optimizing the material system and achieving the preparation of high quality and large area crystal materials in the future. This paper analyzes the effects of crystal growth and material composition on radiation detection performance, focusing on the solution preparation of perovskite materials. The study aims to improve radiation detection performance by optimizing crystal growth quality and device structure design. Additionally, it also summarises the challenges faced by perovskite materials in the field of radiation detection and suggests future research directions. Introduction: The case fatality rate among patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) has decreased progressively, with numerous patients subjected to contemporary paradigms that minimize the use of agonizing therapeutic processes. The concept of the "Textbook Outcome" (TO), a composite outcome that highlights numerous favorable outcomes, was developed in the context of gastrointestinal tumor surgeries and expeditiously extended across diverse surgical spheres. The aim of this study was to explore the factors hindering the achievement of optimal prognoses in postinterventional aSAH patients, employ textbook outcomes, and establish predictive models. Methods: We conducted a retrospective review of data from 1270 aSAH patients who received endovascular treatment between 2012 and 2018. We delineated an exemplary TO within the aSAH domain, characterized by favorable clinical results, minimal complications, and the absence of retreatments. This TO-oriented approach is explained within the manuscript. Results: The findings revealed that preoperative intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH), preoperative Hunt and Hess grade (H&H) ≥ 3, World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS) grade ≥ 3, the presence of blebs on the aneurysm, aneurysms situated at branching sites, and non-stent-assisted endovascular intervention were the strongest risk factors for not achieving textbook outcomes (non-"Textbook Outcome" [N-TO]). Decision curve analysis and calibration analyses revealed strong concordance between the predictions of the N-TO nomogram model and the actual observations. Conclusions: Treatment Outcomes hold significant practical value in clinical studies of aSAH patients receiving endovascular treatment. The likelihood of N-TOs was predicted by IVH, H&H grade ≥ 3, WFNS grade ≥ 2, presence o f bleb on the aneurysm, and aneurysms located at branching sites. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The study aimed to examine the consistency of vertebral bone quality (VBQ) scores for assessing osteoporosis across different etiologies and explore the predictive value of various VBQ scores for fragility vertebral fractures. Methods: Patients with fragility fractures were matched by age and sex to patients with lumbar degeneration. VBQ scores were calculated in T1- and T2-weighted magnetic resonance imaging. Differential analysis of bone quality was performed based on etiology. Results: A total of 96 inpatients were retrospectively enrolled. VBQT1 scores were only sensitive to osteoporotic bone in degenerative group (p < 0.01), failing to identify osteoporosis in fractured group (p > 0.05). For the degenerative group, the area under the curve (AUC) using the VBQT1 scores to differentiate osteoporosis was 0.72. After controlling the confounding variables, only VBQT2 scores were significantly higher in fractured group than degenerative group, with a greater AUC of 0.82 predicting fragility fractures. VBQT1 scores moderately correlated with femoral neck T-scores in degenerative group (r = −0.45, p < 0.01) but not in fractured group (r = −0.24, p > 0.05). VBQT2 scores were not associated with femoral neck T-scores (p > 0.05). Conclusion: This study is the first to evaluate the effectiveness of VBQs scores in assessing osteoporosis post-fracture. Only non-fractured patients' bone quality is fully susceptible to VBQT1 scores. While VBQT1 scores may not correlate with fragility fractures, VBQT2 scores present a viable alternative. Objective: The peripheral B cell compartment is heavily disturbed in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), but whether B cells develop aberrantly in the bone marrow (BM) is largely unknown. Methods: We performed single‐cell RNA/B cell receptor (BCR) sequencing and immune profiling of BM B cells and classified patients with SLE into two groups: early B cell (Pro‐B and Pre‐B) normal (EBnor) and EB defective/low (EBlo) groups. Results: The SLE‐EBlo group exhibited more severe disease activity and proinflammatory status, overaction of type I interferon signaling and metabolic pathways within the B cell compartment, and aberrant BCR repertoires compared with the SLE‐EBnor group. Moreover, in one patient with SLE who was initially classified in the SLE‐EBlo group, early B cell deficiency and associated abnormalities were largely rectified in a second BM sample at the remission phase. Conclusion: In summary, this study suggests that early B cell loss in BM defines a unique pathological state in a subset of patients with SLE that may play an active role in the dysregulated autoimmune responses. The accurate prediction of the future trajectories of traffic participants is crucial for enhancing the safety and decision-making capabilities of autonomous vehicles. Modeling social interactions among agents and revealing the inherent relationships is crucial for accurate trajectory prediction. In this context, we propose a goal-guided and interaction-aware state refinement graph attention network (SRGAT) for multi-agent trajectory prediction. This model effectively integrates high-precision map data and dynamic traffic states and captures long-term temporal dependencies through the Transformer network. Based on these dependencies, it generates multiple potential goals and Points of Interest (POIs). Through its dual-branch, multimodal prediction approach, the model not only proposes various plausible future trajectories associated with these POIs, but also rigorously assesses the confidence levels of each trajectory. This goal-oriented strategy enables SRGAT to accurately predict the future movement trajectories of other vehicles in complex traffic scenarios. Tested on the Argoverse and nuScenes datasets, SRGAT surpasses existing algorithms in key performance metrics by adeptly integrating past trajectories and current context. Background: Smoking remains a major risk factor for the development and progression of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Due to the adolescent smoking associated with worse health state, the age, at which an individual started smoking, might play a key role in shaping the trajectory of COPD development and the severity. Methods: We conducted an observational study from September 2016 through January 2023 of eligible patients hospitalized with COPD. Patients who started smoking during the alveolar development stage (ADS, smoking initiation ≤ 24 years old) were defined as early smoking patients, and patients who started smoking after ADS (smoking initiation > 24 years old) were defined as late smoking patients. We collected demographic and clinical data characterizing the patients and documented their condition from hospital discharge to follow-up. The primary endpoints were short-term (within one year), 3-year, and long-term (beyond 3 years) all-cause mortality after discharge. Results: Among 697 COPD patients, early smoking patients had a lower smoking cessation rate (P < 0.001) and a higher smoking index (P < 0.001) than late smoking patients. Although adjusted smoking index, early smoking patients still had poorer lung function (P = 0.023), thicker left ventricular diameters (P = 0.003), higher frequency of triple therapy use during stable stage (P = 0.049), and more acute exacerbations in the past year before enrollment (P < 0.05). Survival analysis showed that they had a higher risk of death after discharge within three years (P = 0.004) and beyond three years (P < 0.001). Furthermore, even in early smoking COPD patients who quit smoking after adjusting the smoking index had poorer lung function (P < 0.05) and thicker left ventricular diameters (P = 0.003), and survival analysis also showed that they had a higher long-term mortality rate (P = 0.010) and shorter survival time (P = 0.0128). Conclusion: Early smoking COPD patients exhibited multiple adverse clinical outcomes, including heavy cigarette addiction, compromised pulmonary function, augmented left ventricular diameter, and elevated mortality risk. Additional, smoking cessation could not bring enough improvement of health state in early smoking COPD patients as late smoking COPD patients. Introduction: Psittacosis is a zoonosis caused by Chlamydia psittaci, the clinical manifestations of Psittacosis range from mild illness to fulminant severe pneumonia with multiple organ failure. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical characteristics of Chlamydia psittaci infection diagnosed based on metagenomic next-generation sequencing(mNGS), as well as the risk factors affecting the progress of Chlamydia psittaci infection, in order to improve the effect of therapeutics. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of patients infected with chlamydia psittaci in the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University from January 2021 to December 2021. The patient's past medical history, clinical manifestations, laboratory examinations, chest CT results, treatment status, and prognosis data were collected. we also investigated both the pathogenic profile characteristics and the lower respiratory tract microbiota of patients with Chlamydia psittaci pneumonia using mNGS. Results: All cases of Chlamydia psittaci in our research have been confirmed by mNGS. Among 46 cases of Chlamydia psittaci pneumonia, Poultry exposure was reported in 35 cases. In severe cases of Chlamydia psittaci pneumonia, Neutrophils, Procalcitonin (PCT), Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH), Hydroxybutyrate Dehydrogenase (HBDH), Creatine Kinase Isoenzymes-B (CK-MB) and D-Dimer levels were remarkably higher than that of non-severe cases, except for lymphocytes (all P < 0.05). Chest CT scans showed Bilateral (77.8%), multiple lobar lungs (85.2%), pleural effusions (44.4%) involvement in those suffering from severe Chlamydia psittaci pneumonia, whereas its incidence was 0%, 21.1% and 10.5% in non-severe patients, respectively (P < 0.05). Multivariate analysis revealed that higher lymphocyte concentrations (OR 0.836, 95% CI 0.714–0.962, P = 0.041) were the only protective factor for survival. mNGS results indicated that 41.3% of patients (19/46) had suspected coinfections with a coinfection rate of 84.2% (16/19) in the severe group, much higher than that in the non severe group (p < 0.05). No significantly different profiles of lower respiratory tract microbiota diversity were found between non severe group and severe group. Conclusion: A history of poultry exposure in patients can serve as an important basis for diagnosing Chlamydia psittaci pneumonia, and patients with severe Chlamydia psittaci pneumonia are more likely to develop elevated inflammatory biomarkers as well as elevated cardiac markers. Higher lymphocyte concentrations are protective factors associated with severe C. psittaci pneumonia. The higher proportion of patients with coinfections in our study supports the use of mNGS for comprehensive early detection of respiratory infections in patients with C. psittaci pneumonia.
