Abstract
Researchers from Wichita State University have published a paper on the use of additive manufacturing (AM) in supply chains. AM, also known as 3D printing, allows for the fabrication of products in a layer-by-layer fashion, resulting in low production costs and simplified supply chains. The researchers propose a blockchain-empowered system architecture called Additive Manufacturing-as-a-Service (AMaaS) to facilitate the adoption of AM in manufacturing industries. They also identify research challenges in market design, control algorithms, and security. The study was supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and has been peer-reviewed.
