Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSs) are crucial for safeguarding modern IoT communication networks against cyberattacks. IDSs must exhibit exceptional performance, low false positive rates, and significant flexibility in constructing attack patterns to efficiently identify and neutralize these attacks. This research paper discusses the use of an Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) as a new technique to enhance the performance of IDSs. The study utilizes two standard IDS-based IoT network datasets: NSL-KDD 2009 via Distilled-Kitsune 2021. Both datasets are used to assess the effectiveness of ELM in a conventional supervised learning setting. The study investigates the capacity of the ELM algorithm to handle high-dimensional and unbalanced data, indicating the potential to enhance IDS accuracy and efficiency. The research also examines the setup of ELM for both NSL_KDD and Kitsune using Python and Google COLAB to do binary and multi-class classification. The experimental evaluation revealed the proficient performance of the proposed ELM-based IDS among other implemented supervised learning-based IDSs and other state-of-the-art models in the same study area. IoT networks can provide many benefits and opportunities, although their implementation poses challenges. Cloud-only storage of IoT data would be very costly and time-consuming. In this paper, a new scheme is proposed for caching IoT content on the edge with SDN-based processing capability. The proposed scheme considers a global SDN controller, which coordinates cache decisions across the entire IoT network. The Moth-Flame Optimization-Cluster Head Selection (MFO-CHS) algorithm is used to cluster devices where the selected cluster heads send the IoT data to the edge nodes for caching. In addition, by utilizing edge caching capabilities and using MFO to select and cache the appropriate contents on edge nodes, the proposed Moth-Flame Optimization-Edge Caching (MFO-EC) algorithm can provide data with lower latency on upcoming requests. Caching can also help ensure reliability and availability since intermittent connections and power limitations affect IoT devices. Caching decisions regarding IoT characteristics are not made intelligently in the default caching scheme for maximizing device longevity and managing the possibility that content producers may become unreachable. This scheme considers several metrics, and the proposed moth-flame optimization (MFO) algorithms, MFO-CHS, and MFO-EC algorithms, which are nature-inspired paradigms for the edge caching problem called "MFO-SDN-EC", Moth-Flame Optimization-Software-defined Networking -Edge Caching, are used to select the best options regarding considered criteria and improve the QoS in the SDN based IoT environment. Based on simulations, our proposed caching method can reduce energy consumption by 45%, decrease the average response time by 49%, and also increase cache-hit rates. In recent days, cryptographic algorithm hardware is the need of IoT devices. However, limited resources demand an efficient approach towards designing the said cryptographic algorithm hardware. This paper introduces the PUF (Physical Unclonable Function) based approach to design the key generator used in cryptographic algorithm hardware to minimize the area and power consumption. A customizable key generation unit has been introduced in the form of a Standard Synchronization Unit (SSU) to match the desired key size requirements. The results were generated with PUF based designs from literature and compared with the proposed PDL (Programmable Delay Logic) PUF. All parameters considered, a proposed PDL PUF key generator is an efficient option that can be integrated with an Advanced Encryption System (AES) as the key generator. The modified AES design result was compared with the literature's results on the Xilinx Virtex XC7VX690T platform. The Internet of Vehicles (IoV) is an Intelligent Transportation System, which in its turn is an application of the Internet of Things. The IoV is a network of connected vehicles that sends/receives messages. However, the moving nature of the vehicles in IoV networks raises a dynamic topology issue. Therefore, establishing effective and dependable communication pathways among vehicular nodes, contingent upon traffic density conditions, presents a growing challenge. As a result, the main contribution of this paper is to propose an efficient network optimization system involving a cluster-based network routing optimizer. The proposed method is a metaheuristic algorithm adapted as a clustering algorithm. For this purpose, the JAYA Algorithm (JAYA) was utilized and integrated with two clustering concepts extracted from K-means Clustering and Automatic Clustering, resulting in proposing JAYA Clustering Algorithm for IoV (JAYACIoV). Subsequently, the performance of the proposed algorithm was investigated utilizing 176 network testing scenarios, and extensive comparative evaluations were conducted against five algorithms from the literature. The results confirmed the superiority of the proposed system with a percentage of 64.82%, where the algorithms were ranked according to the percentage achievement of best results. The emergence of IoT has introduced new security concerns, particularly the detection of large-scale network attacks initiated by compromised IoT devices. The diverse nature of IoT devices adds complexity to attack detection, necessitating the classification of devices based on their unique characteristics and behavior patterns. This paper presents a novel device classification method grounded in traffic differentials before and after IoT devices succumb to compromise. The study defines the concept of attack sensitivity and designs a method for calculating the value. The K-means algorithm is used to classify devices into predefined categories based on their attack sensitivity values. The effectiveness of this method is demonstrated through experiments on a public dataset. Additionally, a multi-class classification model is developed to identify newly added devices to the IoT environment, with good results in accuracy, precision, recall, F1 score, and FPR (0.999, 0.997–1,0.997–1,0.998–1,0–0.001). Overall, The device classification method proposed in this paper, based on attack sensitivity, not only enables a rational definition of device categories but also ensures precise classification for devices newly integrated into the IoT environment. Applications for the internet of things (IoT) have grown significantly in popularity in recent years, and this has caused a huge increase in the use of cloud services (CSs). In addition, cloud computing (CC) effciently processes and stores generated application data, which is evident in the lengthened response times of sensitive applications. Moreover, CC bandwidth limitations and power consumption are still unresolved issues. In order to balance CC, fog computing (FC) has been developed. FC broadens its offering of CSs to target end users and edge devices. Due to its low processing capability, FC only handles light activities; jobs that require more time will be done via CC. This study presents an alternative task scheduling in an IoT environment based on improving the performance of the golden jackal optimization (GJO) using the artificial hummingbird algorithm (AHA). To test the effectiveness of the developed task scheduling technique named golden jackal artificial hummingbird (GJAH), we conducted a large number of experiments on two separate datasets with varying data sizing. The GJAH algorithm provides better performance than those competitive task scheduling methods. In particular, GJAH can schedule and carry out activities more effectively than other algorithms to reduce the makespan time and energy consumption in a cloud-fog computing environment.
