The European Council completed the legislative procedure to establish the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) on April 25, 2023, which will be launched in 2027. The iron and steel sector is the main target of the forthcoming CBAM due to the industry's energy-intensive consumption with high carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) emissions. However, minimal existing research has been conducted in this regard. This study employs GTAP-e 11.0 and TOPSIS models to estimate the effects of CBAM implementation on the major nations around the world from 2027 to 2030, examining countries' GDP, social welfare, iron and steel production, trade balance, and CO 2 emissions to the global environment. This study concludes: (1) The GDP and social welfare of important iron and steel trade partners throughout the world will be significantly impacted by the application of CBAM. Most nations, including those in the EU, will experience negative GDP effects, with China undergoing the most pronounced social welfare declines followed by India. In contrast, the EU27 will benefit the most in terms of social welfare, followed by the US, Japan, and Russia. (2) Iron and steel production will decrease in all countries outside the EU, but it will have a positive impact on the trade balance of most countries. (3) The CO 2 emissions of all countries except for the EU and Japan will decrease, with a positive impact on preventing carbon leakage in the international iron and steel trade. (4) Comprehensive analysis demonstrates that the EU will benefit the most, and China will suffer the most from CBAM application. The Belt and Road Initiative proposed by China has significantly increased trade in countries along the Belt and Road (B&R). Since most of these countries are developing and emerging economies, the pressure to reduce carbon emissions poses a leading challenge for them. Carbon productivity has become a key indicator for assessing the degree of low-carbon development, as it can link economic development with CO 2 emission reduction. However, few studies have investigated how international trade affects carbon productivity. Based on panel data from 43 countries along the B&R during 2001-2019, this paper uses a system GMM model to explore the impact of international trade on carbon productivity. Then, we divide the 43 countries in the sample into two groups according to their income levels to compare the different effects of international trade on carbon productivity. The results show that, first, the carbon productivity of the examined B&R countries has an overall increasing trend, and there is a significant heterogeneity of carbon productivity among countries with different income levels. Second, the effects of international trade, export, and import on carbon productivity are all significantly positive, and export's effect is higher than import. In the high-income group, carbon productivity is more likely to be improved by trade than in the middle (low)-income group. Third, economic development level, urbanization, and energy productivity are positively associated with carbon productivity, while CO 2 per capita and government size inhibit carbon productivity improvement. This paper investigates the impacts of new digital technology on carbon emissions in China. To better capture the feature of new digital technology, we distinctively measure it using the invention patent stock of new generation information technology industry. The empirical results show that the development of new digital technology significantly reduces carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) intensity. The results are still robust after addressing the endogeneity issues using instrumental variable regressions. The carbon reduction mechanisms of new digital technology include reducing energy intensity, optimizing energy structure, and advancing treatment technology. We further confirm the spatial spillover and nonlinear effects of new digital technology on CO 2 intensity and the moderating effect of urban digitalization in carbon reduction. Through extensive data research and analysis, this paper comprehensively summarizes the status and key insights of global carbon dioxide capture and storage (CCS) development. It aims to gain a comprehensive understanding of the relevant policies, technologies, and security measures adopted by major countries in their CCS development processes. Furthermore, it explores the existing status and limitations of China's offshore development efforts, while providing valuable recommendations for enhancing China's offshore CCS initiatives, as well as serving as a reference for other nations worldwide. Offshore CCS plays a crucial role for China to achieve the development target of carbon peak and carbon neutrality, due to its energy structure and industrial distribution. While China possesses significant offshore CCS potential, achieving commercialization still requires substantial efforts. To facilitate the process and draw insights from successful experiences in other countries, this paper illustrates the characteristics and generalizes the experience of offshore CCS industry practices in America, Europe and Japan, respectively. Furthermore, it is recommended that a new round of investigation into offshore CCS potential be conducted, while promoting integrated collaboration between geological surveying and marine scientific research. Increased ecological land (IEL) such as forests and grasslands can greatly enhance ecosystem carbon sinks. Understanding the mechanisms for the magnitude of IEL-induced ecosystem carbon sinks is crucial for achieving carbon neutrality. We estimated the impact of IEL, specifically the increase in forests and grasslands, as well as global changes including atmospheric CO 2 concentration, nitrogen deposition, and climate change on net ecosystem productivity (NEP) in National Key Ecological Function Zones (NKEFZs) in China using a calibrated ecological process model. The NEP in NKEFZs in China was calculated to be 119.4 Tg C yr -1 , showing an increase of 42.6 Tg C yr -1 from 2001 to 2021. Compared to the slight contributions of climate change (-8.0%), nitrogen deposition (11.5%), and reduction in ecological land (-3.5%), the increase in NEP was primarily attributed to CO 2 (66.5%) and IEL (33.5%). Moreover, the effect of IEL (14.8 Tg C yr -1 ) surpassed that of global change (13.1 Tg C yr -1 ) in the land use change zone. The IEL-induced NEP is significantly associated with CO 2 fertilization, regulated by precipitation and nitrogen deposition. The high values of IEL-induced NEP occurred in areas with precipitation exceeding 800 mm and nitrogen deposition exceeding 25 kg N ha -1 yr -1 . We recommend prioritizing the expansion of ecological land in areas with sufficient water and nutrients to enhance CO 2 fertilization, while avoiding increasing ecological land in regions facing unfavorable climate change conditions. This study provides first evidence on the effects of Chinese FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) outflows on host country environments. The study draws upon a comprehensive dataset covering aggregate Chinese FDI outflows and sector specific data into 65 host nations over the 2007-2019 period. Employing a STIRPAT (Stochastic Regression on Population, Affluence and Technology) model and several different techniques including DID (Difference-in-Difference), pooled OLS (Ordinary Least Squares), quantile regression, IV (Instrumental Variable) estimation, threshold and Tobit regression, the findings suggest that Chinese FDI leads to an increase in host country CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) emissions, aligning with the pollution haven hypothesis at the aggregate level. A closer investigation at the development regime and sectoral levels indicates that in the low development regime, FDI inflows into the financial and real estate sector increase emissions. Conversely in the high-income regime, Chinese FDI into the entertainment sector is associated with an increase in carbon emissions. Chinese FDI is further found to lead to an increase in emissions in countries with a per capita GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of below USD72041.7. Implementing a Carbon Peak Action Plan at the regional level requires comprehensive consideration of the developmental heterogeneity among different provinces, which is an effective pathway for China to realize the goal of carbon peak by 2030. However, there is currently no clear provincial roadmap for carbon peak, and existing studies on carbon peak pathways inadequately address provincial heterogeneity. Therefore, this paper employs the Stochastic Impacts by Regression on Population, Affluence, and Technology (STIRPAT) model to decompose assess 8 factors influencing carbon emissions of 30 provinces. According to scenario analysis, the paper explores the differentiated pathways for provincial carbon peaks based on policy expectation indicators (including population, economy, and urbanization rate) and comprises policy control indicators (including the energy structure, energy efficiency, industrial structure, transportation structure, and innovation input). The results indicate that population, per capita GDP, urbanization rate, and innovation input are the primary factors for influencing (negatively) the growth of carbon emissions. In contrast, the optimization and upgrading of the industrial structure, energy intensity, energy structure, and transportation structure have mitigating effects on carbon emissions, especially for the first two factors. The forecasting results reveal that robust regulations of the energy and industry can effectively accelerate carbon peak at a reduced magnitude. If developed at BAU, China cannot achieve carbon peak by 2030, continuing an upward trend. However, by maximizing the adjustment strength of energy and industrial transformation within the scope of provincial capabilities, China could achieve carbon peak as early as 2025, with a peak of 12.069 billion tons. In this scenario, 24 provinces could achieve carbon peak before 2030. Overall, this study suggests the feasibility of differentiated pathway to achieve carbon peaks in China, exploring the carbon peak potential and paths of 30 provinces, and identifying provinces where carbon peak is more challenging. Intermittent rivers in semiarid and arid regions, constituting over half of the world's rivers, alternate the carbon cycle interactions among the biosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere. Inadequate quantification of flow duration and river water surface area, along with overlooked CO 2 emissions from dry riverbeds, result in notable inaccuracies in global carbon cycle assessments. High-resolution remote sensing images combined with intensive field measurements and hydrological modelling were used to estimate and extract the flow duration, river water surface area and dry riverbed area of Huangfuchuan, an intermittent river watershed that acts as a major tributary of the Yellow River in semiarid Northwest China. CO 2 emission rates and partial pressures in water and air across the watershed were in-situ measured. In 2018, the flow duration of Huangfuchuan increased from less than 5 days in the first-order tributary to 150 days in the sixth-order mainstream. River water surface area estimated by remote sensing extraction plus the hydrodynamic model simulation varied from 3.9 to 88.6 km 2 under 5 %-95 % discharge frequencies. CO 2 emissions from the water-air interface and dry riverbed in 2018 were estimated at 582.3 × 10 3 and 355.2 × 10 3 ton, respectively. The estimated total annual emission (937.5 × 10 3 ton) aligns closely with the range of emissions (67.3 × 10 3 -1377.2 × 10 3 ton) calculated for the water-air interface alone, derived using DEM river length and hydraulic geometry method. This similarity can be attributed to the overestimation of flow duration and flow velocity, as well as the over- or under-estimation of river water surface area and slope. The new method proposed in this study has large potential to be applied in estimating CO 2 emissions from data-scarce intermittent rivers located in mountainous regions and provides a standardized solution in the estimation of CO 2 emission. Exploring whether informal environmental regulations (INER) can achieve carbon reduction in the context of pollution reduction and carbon reduction, as well as how to achieve carbon reduction, can help solve the dual failures of the market and government in environmental protection. Based on the polycentric governance theory and considering the characteristics of social subject environmental participation, the Stackelberg game is used to demonstrate the impact mechanism of INER on CO 2 . In addition, using the panel data of China's 30 provinces from 2003 to 2018, this paper validates the effectiveness of INER by Pooled Ordinary Least Square (POLS) and threshold panel model. Then, the mediating effect model is used to test the mechanism of INER's effect on carbon reduction. The results show that corruption is not conducive to CO 2 reduction. The reduction effect of INER on CO 2 exhibits heterogeneity with changes in other non-greenhouse gas pollutants. While INER effectively reduces local corruption, its more substantial indirect impact on CO 2 reduction is prominent when levels of other pollutants are lower. Comparative analysis reveals that there are still biased governance behaviors to cope with INER's pressure in some regions nowadays. The findings show that for countries facing the dual task of pollution control and carbon reduction, the key to leveraging the supervisory role of INER should be focused on mitigating information asymmetry caused by the characteristics of CO 2 . The digital economy is a crucial focus for realizing the transformation of old and new kinetic energy in China. It is widely integrated with various fields of the economy and society, constantly providing a new dynamic mechanism with synergetic control of environmental pollution and carbon emissions (SCEPCE). Based on panel data from 292 prefecture-level cities in China from 2011 to 2021, this study discusses the spatial effects and mechanisms of the digital economy on the coordinated control of pollutants and carbon emissions. The study found that: (1) The digital economy has direct and indirect influences on the coordinated control of pollutants and carbon emissions. The digital economy can drive reductions in pollutants and carbon dioxide emissions by upgrading industrial structures and transforming energy structures. (2) Green innovation plays an active regulatory role in the digital economy and structural optimization, particularly in the context of SCEPCE. This interference helps mitigate the impact of the digital economy on pollution and carbon emissions. (3) The digital economy has a significant spatial spillover effect on the coordinated control of pollutants and carbon emissions. (4) The influence mechanism of the digital economy on pollution reduction and carbon reduction synergy exhibits geographical heterogeneity, resource endowment heterogeneity. To enhance the synergy of pollution reduction and carbon reduction, it is essential to bolster support and optimise the digital economy at various levels. Revealing the magnitude, dynamics, and influencing factors of CO 2 emissions across the water-air interface in karst water with high frequency is crucial for accurately assessing the carbon budget in a karst environment. Due to the limitations of observation methods, the current research is still very insufficient. To solve the above problems and clarify the main influencing factors of CO 2 emission in karst water, this study selected Dalongdong (DLD) Reservoir, located in the typical karst peak and valley area in southwest China, to carry out a multi-parameter high-frequency monitoring study from January to December 2021, and used the thin boundary model method to estimate the CO 2 flux across the water-air interface (CF). The average annual flux of DLD reservoir is 84.48 mmol·(m 2 ·h) -1 , which represents a CO 2 source overall. However, during the stratification period in August, there is a transient carbon sink due to negative CO 2 emission. The alteration of thermal stratification in water is crucial in regulating the seasonal variation of CF. Meanwhile, the diurnal variation is significantly influenced by changes in hydrochemical parameters during the thermal stratification stage. Compared to low wind speeds (<3 m/s), high wind speeds (≥3 m/s) have a greater impact on the CO 2 flux. Furthermore, high-frequency continuous data revealed that the reservoir triggered a CO 2 pulse emission during the turnover process, primarily at night, leading to unusually high CO 2 flux values. It is of great significance to monitor and reveal the process, flux, and control factors of CO 2 flux in land water at a high-frequency strategy. This study addresses critical gaps in supply chain management (SCM) by integrating emission-risk minimization (ERM), green purchasing (GP), and profit maximization (PM). The research focuses on the optimal behaviors of manufacturers, agents, and retailers within the SCM framework to achieve carbon neutrality and reduce carbon dioxide emissions (CO 2 e). This study considers Guangdong province, China, a region facing challenges in optimizing energy systems and meeting CO 2 e reduction targets. Simulation-based optimization techniques within mathematical models are employed. A design of experiment (DOE) method was used to explore the dynamics of key variables in the SCM environment. Results reveal optimal behaviors for manufacturers, agents, and retailers, demonstrating the ideal values for profit and pricing decisions. Manufacturers optimize production quantity, achieving CO2e reduction and PM through ERM. Agents exhibit a strong commitment to GP practices, enhancing PM and carbon-neutral goals. Retailers get more PM than manufacturers and agents, contributing to a clean environment. Interestingly, retailers make contributions to the clean environment without considering ERM and GP in SCM. The study contributes novel insights by addressing the identified gap in SCM research, emphasizing the joint consideration of ERM, GP, and PM. Mollisols rich in natural organic matter are a significant sink of carbon (C) and selenium (Se). Climate warming and agricultural expansion to the cold Mollisol regions may enhance soil respiration and biogeochemical cycles, posing a growing risk of soil C and Se loss. Through field-mimicking incubation experiments with uncultivated and cultivated soils from the Mollisol regions of northeastern China, this research shows that soil respiration remained significant even during cold seasons and caused co-emission of greenhouse gases (CO 2 and CH 4 ) and methylated Se. Such stimulus effects were generally stronger in the cultivated soils, with maximum emission rates of 7.45 g/m 2 /d C and 1.42 μg/m 2 /d Se. For all soil types, the greatest co-emission of CO 2 and dimethyl selenide occurred at 25 % soil moisture, whereas measurable CH 4 emission was observed at 40 % soil moisture with higher percentages of dimethyl diselenide volatilization. Molecular characterization with three-dimensional fluorescence and ultra-high resolution mass spectrometry suggests that CO 2 emission is sensitive to the availability of microbial protein-like substances and free energy from organic carbon biodegradation under variable moisture conditions. Predominant Se binding to biodegradable organic matter resulted in high dependence of Se volatilization on rates of greenhouse gas emissions. Carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) production and emissions from inland waters play considerable roles in global atmospheric CO 2 sources, while there are still uncertainties regarding notable nutrient inputs and anthropogenic activities. Urban inland waters, with frequently anthropogenic modifications and severely nitrogen loadings, were hotspots for CO 2 emissions. Here, we investigated the spatiotemporal patterns of partial pressure of CO 2 (pCO 2 ) and CO 2 fluxes (FCO 2 ) in typical urban inland waters in Tianjin, China. Our observation indicated that pCO 2 values were oversaturated in highly polluted waters, particularly in sewage rivers and urban rivers, exhibiting approximately 9 times higher than the atmosphere equilibrium concentration during sampling campaigns. Obviously, the spatiotemporal distributions of pCO 2 and FCO 2 emphasized that the water environmental conditions and anthropogenic activities jointly adjusted primary productivity and biological respiration of inland waters. Meanwhile, statistically positive correlations between pCO 2 /FCO 2 and NH 4 + -N/NO 3 - -N (p < 0.05) suggested that nitrogen biogeochemical processes, especially the nitrification, played a dominant role in CO 2 emissions attributing to the water acidification that stimulated CO 2 production and emissions. Except for slight CO 2 sinks in waters with low organic contents, the total CO 2 emissions from the urban surface waters of Tianjin were remarkable (286.8 Gg yr -1 ). China proposed establishing a carbon emission trading market in its 12th Five-Year Plan to reduce carbon dioxide emissions through market mechanisms, promote the development of science and technology and help China become an environment-friendly country. To examine the impact of carbon emission trading on green technology innovation in Chinese energy enterprises, data from 1993 to 2020 were collected from 494 A-share-listed energy enterprises. Enterprises located in the pilot area of carbon emissions trading were assigned to the treatment group, while those in the non-pilot area were assigned to the control group. The propensity-score-matching method was utilized to match the treatment group with the control group, and the resulting samples were used as the actual sample data. The difference-in-differences method was then employed to assess the net impact of carbon emission trading and investigate its effect on green technology innovation in energy enterprises. This empirical study suggested that carbon emission trading has a positive impact on green technology innovation in energy enterprises, particularly state-owned ones. Larger enterprises are more willing to engage in green technological innovation than small enterprises. Furthermore, when faced with a carbon emission trading system, 'mature' companies tend to pay more attention to green technology innovation than younger enterprises do. The carbonate chemistry in river-dominated marginal seas is highly heterogeneous, and there is ongoing debate regarding the definition of atmospheric CO 2 source or sink. On this basis, we investigated the carbonate chemistry and air-sea CO 2 fluxes in a hotspot estuarine area: the Changjiang Estuary during winter and summer. The spatial characteristics of the carbonate system were influenced by water mixing of three end-members in winter, including the Changjiang freshwater with low total alkalinity (TA) concentration, the less saline Yellow Sea Surface Water with high TA, and the saline East China Sea (ECS) offshore water with moderate TA. While in summer with increased river discharge, the carbonate system was regulated by simplified two end-member mixing between the Changjiang freshwater and the ECS offshore water. By performing the end-member mixing model on DIC variations in the river plume region, significant biological addition of DIC was found in winter with an estimation of -120 ± 113 μmol kg -1 caused by wintertime organic matter remineralization from terrestrial source. While this biological addition of DIC shifted to DIC removal due to biological production in summer supported by the increased nutrient loading from Changjiang River. The pCO 2 dynamics in the river plume and the ECS offshore were both subjected to physical mixing of freshwater and seawater, whether in winter and summer. In the inner estuary without horizontal mixing, the pCO 2 dynamics were mainly influenced by biological uptake in winter and temperature in summer. The inner estuary, the river plume, and the ECS offshore were sources of atmospheric CO 2 , with their contributions varying seasonally. Due to global climate change and intensifying anthropogenic pollution, China confronts the dual challenge of controlling particulate matter 2.5 μm (PM 2.5 ) pollution and reducing carbon emissions. Quantifying the characteristics of PM 2.5 concentrations and CO 2 emissions, as well as identifying the driving factors and synergistic effects of PM 2.5 reduction and CO 2 mitigation, are crucial steps in promoting sustainable urban development and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in China. In this study, we selected 168 cities as our case-study, and quantified spatial characteristics of PM 2.5 concentrations and CO 2 emissions from 2015 to 2020 in China. Then we analyzed driving factors affecting the spatial heterogeneity of PM 2.5 reduction and CO 2 mitigation applying Multi-scale Geographically Weighted Regression (MGWR) model. By employing coupling coordination degree (CCD) model, we further detected the spatiotemporal evolution patterns of the synergistic effects between PM 2.5 reduction and CO 2 mitigation in key Chinese cities. The result showed that: (a) From 2015 to 2020, PM 2.5 concentrations experienced a significant reduction from 59.78 μg/m 3 to 49.83 μg/m 3 , while CO 2 emissions increased from 44.88 × 10 6  t in 2015 to 45.77 × 10 6  t in 2020; (b) Green economy efficiency (gee), government attention (gover), and environmental regulation (envir) demonstrate the most pronounced synergistic effect on pollution reduction and carbon mitigation, with the drivers exhibiting obvious spatial heterogeneity; (c) The overall coupling coordination level of PM 2.5 pollution and CO 2 emissions in China dropped from 0.49 in 2015 to 0.46 in 2020, and the coupling coordination grade in northern cities was notably higher than that in southern cities. Coordinated efforts to reduce haze and carbon emissions are important in promoting global climate governance and sustainable development. In this paper, based on prefecture-level data of China from 2005 to 2019, we investigate the impact of environmental regulatory intensity on the emissions of the concentration of PM 2.5 and carbon dioxide (CO 2 ). The research indicates that environmental regulation facilitates synergistic governance for PM 2.5 reduction and carbon mitigation. Green technological advancement emerges as the primary mechanism through which environmental regulation achieves haze reduction and carbon mitigation. This conclusion remains robust after a series of robustness tests. Furthermore, the results from quantile regression reveal that the haze reduction and carbon mitigation effects of environmental regulation are subject to certain conditional dependencies. Environmental regulation exhibits a significant negative impact on carbon emissions across various quantile points. However, their influence on different quantile levels of PM 2.5 concentration displays an asymmetric pattern. Finally, threshold regression findings suggest that there is no significant threshold effect of environmental regulation on CO 2 emissions, but there are dual threshold effects on the PM 2.5 concentration. Therefore, it is recommended that local governments judiciously implement environmental regulatory intensity, establish interregional policies for haze reduction and carbon mitigation, and fully harness the driving force of green technology to promote a comprehensive green transformation of economic and social development., (© 2023. In order to fully understand the carbon emission from different fuels in rural villages of China, especially in the typical atmospheric pollution areas. The characteristics of carbonaceous aerosols and carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) with its stable carbon isotope (δ 13 C) were investigated in six households, which two households used coal, two households used wood as well as two households used biogas and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), from two rural villages in Fenwei Plain from March to April 2021. It showed that the fine particulate matter (PM 2.5 ) emitted from biogas and LPG couldn't be as lower as expected in this area. However, the clean fuels could relatively reduce the emissions of organic carbon (OC) and element carbon (EC) in PM 2.5 compare to the solid fuels. The pyrolyzed carbon (OP) accounted more total carbon (TC) in coal than the other fuels use households, indicating that more water-soluble OC existed, and it still had the highest secondary organic carbon (SOC) than the other fuels. Meantime, the coal combustions in the two villages had the highest CO 2 concentration of 527.6 ppm and 1120.6 ppm, respectively, while the clean fuels could effectively reduce it. The average δ 13 C values (-26.9‰) was much lighter than almost all the outdoor monitoring and similar to the δ 13 C values for coal combustion and vehicle emission, showing that they might be the main contributors of the regional atmospheric aerosol in this area. During the sandstorm, the indoor PM 2.5 mass and CO 2 were increasing obviously. The indoor cancer risk of PAHs for adults and children were greater than 1 × 10 -6 , exert a potential carcinogenic risk to human of solid fuels combustion in rural northern China. China has a large fastest-aging population, which would reshape household consumption patterns and influence global CO 2 emissions. This study examines global CO 2 emissions driven by household consumption (i.e., household carbon footprints, HCFs) of 34 age groups in China's 30 provinces and uncovers relevant socioeconomic influencing factors. Results show that China's population aging (i.e., the proportion of the elderly population) is conducive to global CO 2 emission reduction during 2011-2014. This trend is mainly due to the relatively lower per capita HCFs of the elderly (1.7 t in 2014). In contrast, the per capita HCFs of the youth group are higher (3.3 t in 2014), mainly affected by the large expenditure on residence and transportation & communication. In addition, the HCFs of all age groups have increased during 2011-2014. Per capita expenditure is the most significant driver of this increase. The decline in CO 2 emission intensity makes the largest contribution to reducing the HCFs of the youth group. For the aged group, expenditure structure change is the largest contributor to HCFs reduction. These findings reveal the differentiated impacts of China's household consumption by age on global CO 2 emissions. The existing literature has extensively examined the impact of green innovations, such as patents, on pollution and carbon emissions. However, there has been comparatively less emphasis on the debt financing of green innovation by using patents as collateral. This oversight may have implications for the realization of pollution and carbon emissions reduction goals. Using a natural experiment based on the patent pledge pilot policy in China, this study investigates the impact of patent pledge on pollution and carbon emissions. We find that a significant reduction in the emissions of sulfur dioxide and carbon dioxide attributable to the patent pledge pilot policy, particularly in cities with lower initial green patent rates, and these results still hold after an array of robustness checks. We show that the encouragement of green innovation and the stimulation of environmental entrepreneurship are the mechanisms underlying these emission reduction effects. With the rapid development of the global new energy vehicle industry, how to minimize the environmental impact of the recovery has become a common concern and urgent concern. China is a major production and consumption market for electric vehicles, there are no specific and extensive resource and environmental assessment system for batteries. In this paper, the retired Electric vehicles lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) was the research object, and a specific analysis of the recycling treatment and gradual use stages of power batteries were based on life cycle assessment. Different battery assessment scenarios were established according to the development of battery recycling in China. The results showed that the secondary use has the optimal performance compared to the full-component physical, pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgy recycling. The results showed that direct recycling has a GWP of 0.037 kg-CO 2 eq·kg LIB -1 , which is lower than others. Secondary use of LIB accounts for the most emission reductions with Global warming (GWP) as 12.134 kg-CO 2 eq·kg LIB -1 . The secondary use has the greatest impact on the assessment results, especially in dynamic scenarios. The transition of the current fossil based chemical industry to a carbon-neutral industry can be done by the substitution of fossil carbon for defossilized carbon in the production of base chemicals. Methanol is one of the seven base chemicals, which could be used to produce other base chemicals (light olefins and aromatics). In this research, we evaluated the synthesis of methanol based on defossilized carbon sources (maize, waste biomass, direct air capture of CO 2 (DAC), and CO 2 from the cement industry) by considering carbon source availability, energy, water, and land demand. This evaluation was based on a carbon balance for each of the carbon sources. Our results show that maize, waste biomass, and CO 2 cement could supply 0.7, 2, 15 times the carbon demand for methanol respectively. Regarding the energy demand maize, waste biomass, DAC, and CO 2 from cement demand 25, 21, 48, and 45GJton MeOH separately. The demand for water is 5300, 220, 8, and 8m 3 ton MeOH . And lastly, land demand was estimated to 1031, 36, 83, and 77m 2 ton MeOH per carbon source. The high-demanding-resource production of defossilized methanol is dependent on the availability of resources per location. Therefore, we analyzed the production of defossilized methanol in the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, China, and the USA. China is the only country where CO 2 from the cement industry could provide all the demand of carbon. But as we envision society becoming carbon neutral, CO 2 from the cement industry would diminish in time, as a consequence, it would not be sufficient to supply the demand for carbon. Fast development of farming practices in China is projected to result in additional carbon emissions and thus affect farmland ecosystems' environmental performance. Based on 454 farm surveys on the North and Northeast China Plain, the carbon footprint (CF) of two farmland ecosystems (irrigated system for wheat and maize on the North China Plain and rainfed system for maize on the Northeast Plain) were assessed and emission reduction pathways explored by quantifying greenhouse gas emissions of agricultural inputs and farm practices during the entire crop growing seasons with an agricultural footprint model. The results demonstrated that the GHG emissions from wheat and maize rotation in the irrigated system were 7.63 t CO 2 eq ha -1 and 3.17 t CO 2 eq ha -1 for single season maize in the rainfed system. While energy consumption accounted for 12.5%-21.3% of the carbon footprint in both systems, the group assessment found that the largest difference in GHG emissions between the high and low emission groups came from mechanical energy consumption. Approximately 50.6% and 39.2% of the mechanical carbon footprint of wheat and maize, respectively, were caused by irrigation practices in the irrigated system. Regarding the rainfed system, where 46.6% of mechanical carbon emissions were generated by maize tillage operations. In addition, scenario analysis indicated that the mechanical carbon footprint could be reduced to 56 kg CO 2 eq t -1 for NCP-wheat and 26 kg CO 2 eq t -1 for NCP-maize, respectively, by optimizing yields and irrigation practices in irrigated systems and that the mechanical carbon footprint of NEP-maize could be reduced to 25 kg CO 2 eq t -1 by optimizing yields and tillage practices in rainfed systems. Therefore, improvement in mechanization in irrigation and tillage practices can contribute to reduce GHG emissions in China. Energy transition policies are of great significance in adjusting the structure of energy supply and demand and coping with climate change. The new energy demonstration city pilot (NEDCP) policy, as an important pilot project in China's energy transition process, lacks a scientific assessment of the carbon reduction effect of the NEDCP policy and an in-depth explanation of the mechanism of the NEDCP. Based on panel data of 209 Chinese cities at the prefectural and higher levels from 2007 to 2019, this study takes the NEDCP policy as a quasi-natural experiment, using a difference-in-differences model combined with firm-level data to identify the impact of the NEDCP policy on urban carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) emissions. This study analyzes the impact of heterogeneity of urban characteristics on the policy effect from multiple perspectives, and further investigates its mechanism. The conclusions are shown in the following aspects. (1) The implementation of the NEDCP policy decreases urban CO 2 emissions significantly. Meanwhile, a series of robustness tests, including the instrumental variables method, propensity score matching difference-in-differences method, placebo test, exclusion of policy interference test, and machine learning method, support this conclusion. (2) The NEDCP policy achieves carbon reduction effects mainly through scale and structure effects. (3) The results of the heterogeneity test show that the NEDCP policy is more effective in cities with higher administrative levels, energy-demanding cities, cities in the southeast of Hu-line, and cities with a higher degree of nationalization. Therefore, the Chinese government should summarize the implementation experience of the NEDCP policy and expand its scope of application. In the backdrop of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, carbon emissions have always been a major concern. The approach of the heterogeneity grey model is proposed, aiming to predict carbon emissions of 30 provinces in China. This model combines the manta ray foraging optimization algorithm to search for the optimal heterogeneity coefficient. By using the heterogeneity grey model, the carbon emissions are analyzed in 30 provinces of China from 2022 to 2030 considering different environmental protection investment scenarios. The results indicate that in 19 provinces from 2022 to 2030, there is a significant decrease in carbon emissions as government investment increases. In 11 provinces during the same period, there is a rising trend in carbon emissions with the increase of government investment. Hence, achieving a reduction in carbon emissions necessitates not only relying on government investment in environmental protection but also exploring alternative approaches to mitigate carbon emissions. Due to the large spatiotemporal variability in the processes controlling carbon emissions from lakes, estimates of global lake carbon emission remain uncertain. Identifying the most reliable predictors of CO 2 and CH 4 concentrations across different hydrological features can enhance the accuracy of carbon emission estimates locally and globally. Here, we used data from 71 lakes in Southwest China varying in surface area (0.01‒702.4 km 2 ), mean depth (< 1‒89.6 m), and climate to analyze differences in CO 2 and CH 4 concentrations and their driving mechanisms between the dry and rainy seasons and between different mixing regimes. The results showed that the average concentrations of CO 2 and CH 4 in the rainy season were 23.9 ± 18.8 μmol L -1 and 2.5 ± 4.9 μmol L -1 , respectively, which were significantly higher than in the dry season (10.5 ± 10.3 μmol L -1 and 1.8 ± 4.2 μmol L -1 , respectively). The average concentrations of CO 2 and CH 4 at the vertically mixed sites were 24.1 ± 21.8 μmol L -1 and 2.6 ± 5.4 μmol L -1 , being higher than those at the stratified sites (14.8 ± 13.4 μmol L -1 and 1.7 ± 3.5 μmol L -1 , respectively). Moreover, the environmental factors were divided into four categories, i.e., system productivity (represented by the contents of total nitrogen, total phosphorus, chlorophyll a and dissolved organic matter), physicochemical factors (water temperature, Secchi disk depth, dissolved oxygen and pH value), lake morphology (lake area, water depth and drainage ratio), and geoclimatic factors (altitude, wind speed, precipitation and land-use intensity). In addition to the regression and variance partitioning analyses between the concentrations of CO 2 and CH 4 and environmental factors, the cascading effects of environmental factors on CO 2 and CH 4 concentrations were further elucidated under four distinct hydrological scenarios, indicating the different driving mechanisms between the scenarios. Lake morphology and geoclimatic factors were the main direct drivers of the carbon concentrations during the rainy season, while they indirectly affected the carbon concentrations via influencing physicochemical factors and further system productivity during the dry season; although lake morphology and geoclimatic factors directly contributed to the carbon concentrations at the vertically mixed and stratified sites, the direct effect of system productivity was only observed at the stratified sites. Olefin industry as a vital part in economic development is facing a problem of high CO 2 emission. In this work, for the global and China's olefin industry under different development scenario, the carbon emission is predicted after the revealing of carbon footprint in different olefin routes. The results show that the carbon footprint of the natural gas liquids (NGLs)-derived route is highly lower than that of the oil- and coal-derived routes. The carbon emission from the global olefin industry in 2015 is 553 million ton CO 2 (MtCO 2 ). In 2030, it will be ranged between 739 and 924 MtCO 2 under different scenarios. Under sustainable development scenario, 15% reduction space is existed, whereas 6% growth is observed under the hybrid-development scenario compared to the business-as-usual situation. In the case of China, its carbon emission is 120 MtCO 2 in 2015. Its potential carbon emission in 2030 will increase to 264-925 MtCO 2 , depending on the rest new capacity from low-carbon or high-carbon routes. The large gap implies the significant influence of the development route choice. However, if most new capacity is from the existed planned olefin projects, the carbon emission will be ranged between 390 and 594 MtCO 2 . Population aging and global warming have become everyday concerns of all countries. Based on the panel data of 30 provinces in China from 2003 to 2019, this paper uses the panel fixed effect model and two-stage least square method to analyze the effect of population aging on domestic energy carbon emissions of urban and rural residents. On this basis, the threshold regression model is introduced to explore the heterogeneity of the effect under different aging levels. The results show that (1) the progress of population aging at the overall level will significantly increase the level of carbon emissions from household energy consumption. At the regional level, the effect of population aging on carbon emissions from household energy consumption in rural areas is higher than in urban areas. (2) Population aging has a nonlinear effect on the carbon emissions of residential energy consumption. For urban areas, when the level of population aging crosses the threshold, its marginal impact on living carbon emissions in urban areas is further enhanced. In contrast, the opposite is true in rural areas. The response of soil autotrophs to anthropogenic activities has attracted increasing attention against the background of global change. Here, three entisol plots under different fertilizing regimes, including no fertilization (CK), manure (M), and a combined application of chemical fertilizer and manure (NPKM) were selected, and then the soil RubisCO (ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase) activity and cbbl (gene encoding the large subunit of RubisCO) composition were measured to indicate the activity and community of autotrophic bacteria, respectively. The results revealed that the RubisCO activity of CK showed no difference from that of M but was significantly higher than that of NPKM. The CK and M had the lowest and highest soil cbbl abundance, respectively. The α-diversity of soil cbbl-carrying bacteria showed no significant difference among these treatments, whereas they showed significantly different community structures of cbbl-carrying bacteria. Dam construction significantly impacts river hydrodynamics, subsequently influencing carbon biogeochemical processes. However, the influence of hydrodynamic conditions on the migration and transformation of Dissolved Inorganic Carbon (DIC) remains uncertain. To bridge this knowledge gap, we integrated hydrochemistry, isotopic composition (δ 13 C DIC ), and a hydrodynamic model (CE-QUAL-W2) to examine the distinctions, control mechanisms, and environmental effects of DIC biogeochemical processes in a typical large and deep reservoir (Hongjiadu Reservoir) under different hydrodynamic conditions. We evaluated hydrodynamic alterations through the Schmidt stability index and relative water column stability. The analysis disclosed that during weak hydrodynamics periods, the energy necessary for complete mixing the surface and deep water was 34 times higher (3615.32 J/m 2 vs.106.86 J/m 2 ), and stability was 13 times greater (312.96 vs. 24.69) compared to periods of strong hydrodynamics. Additionally, the spatiotemporal heterogeneity of DIC concentrations (1.4 % to -9.1 %) and δ 13 C DIC (-1.7 % to -19.5 %) from the dry to wet seasons reflected disparities in DIC control mechanisms under varied hydrodynamic conditions. Based on model simulations, our calculations indicate that during weak hydrodynamics periods, the enhancement of the biological carbon pump effect resulted in substantial sequestration of DIC, reaching up to 379.6 t-DIC·d -1 in the water. Conversely, during strong hydrodynamics periods, DIC retention capacity decreased by 69.2 t·d -1 , resulting in reservoir CO 2 emissions of 22.7 × 10 4 t, which were more than 7 times higher than during weak hydrodynamics periods (3.2 × 10 4 t). Our findings emphasize the discernible impact of hydrodynamic conditions on reservoir biogeochemical processes related to DIC. In the global context, countries must reduce carbon dioxide emissions to "net zero" by 2050 to limit global warming to 1.5 °C above pre-industrial levels. China's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) are to peak carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and achieve the carbon neutrality target by 2060. To monitor the achievements of the NDCs, establishing an annual-based accounting mechanism is necessary to record the carbon stocks in China, especially for Blue Carbon. The paper aims to present China's first national-scale systematic Blue Carbon accounting for mangroves, salt marshes, and seagrasses, covering the accounting subjects of physical and monetary assets, as well as relevant indicators for investors. It focuses on the design of the accounting method and system, the selection of data categories applied to this system, and the application of China's Blue Carbon accounting based on this accounting system. Taking Blue Carbon accounting as a starting point, this paper analyses the restoration prospects of these ecosystems and their application potential for NDCs in China compared with the terrestrial ecosystems. The results indicate that mangroves are the most cost-effective type of ecosystem, even compared to terrestrial forests. To address global climate change, achieving carbon peak and carbon neutrality has become a global consensus. However, the means to simultaneously achieve carbon reduction and promote green economic development, particularly in developing countries, require further investigation. This study evaluates the impact of e-commerce on CO 2 emissions. Through an examination of the effects of the National E-Commerce Demonstration City (NEDC) policy from 2006 to 2017, this paper reveals that e-commerce growth facilitated by the NEDC policy resulted in a 7.89% reduction in total CO 2 emissions and a per capita reduction of 1.1146 tons in the pilot cities. Mechanism analysis demonstrates that the upgrading of industrial structure, development of digital finance, and the growth of innovation and entrepreneurship serve as primary pathways for this impact. The robustness of the findings is supported by parallel trend tests, placebo tests, and additional sensitivity analyses. Furthermore, the research reveals that the NEDC policy exhibits a more significant reduction in CO 2 emissions in cities with higher levels of economic development and non-resource-based cities. Welfare analyses show that the NEDC policy has significant socio-economic effects. Soil respiration (Rs) is a crucial ecological process of carbon (C) cycling in the terrestrial ecosystems, and soil erosion has a significant impact on its C budget and balance. However, the variations of Rs rate and their CO 2 efflux induced by erosion are currently poorly understood. To this end, four landscape positions (top, up, middle and toe) with different erosional and depositional characteristics were selected on a typical eroded slope in southern China to conduct field experiments, aiming to explore the effects of erosion and deposition on Rs among various sites. From March 2021 to February 2022, the in-situ Rs were measured using an automated soil respiration system, together with soil temperature at 5 cm depth (T s5 ) and water content at 10 cm depth (SWC 10 ). We initially constructed various Rs models across a one-year period, based on its relationships with T s5 and SWC 10 . Subsequently, the seasonal changes of Rs at different erosional sites were simulated by the optimum models, and their annual CO 2 fluxes were further estimated. The results showed that Rs rates at all sites displayed a bimodal seasonal pattern, with the highest values in May and August. And the measured Rs of the eroding and depositional sites were 0.05-7.71 and 1.47-13.03 μmol m -2  s -1 , respectively. Also, remarkably higher T s5 and SWC 10 were observed in depositional sites versus the eroding sites (P < 0.05). Additionally, Rs rates at all sites were positively correlated with SOC and T s5 , but negatively correlated with SWC 10 . Herein, Rs models to single- and double-variable were established at different positions, and we found that the fitted R 2 and AIC differed on various sites, primarily in erosional and depositional sites. Furthermore, through the best-fitting models (higher R 2 and lowest AIC) we screened, the average Rs values of 3.03 and 4.46 μmol m -2  s -1 were quantitatively estimated for the eroding and depositional sites, respectively. Finally, it could be further assessed that the mean annual soil CO 2 -C efflux of eroded site (1104.14 g m -2 ) was significantly lower than that of depositional site (1629.46 g m -2 ). Carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) emissions from the cement industry account for 26% of the total industrial emissions, and the need to develop low-carbon techniques within the cement industry is extremely urgent. Low-carbon projects and technologies for the cement industry in different regions and countries have been thoroughly reviewed in this manuscript, and the low-carbon development concept for each county has been analyzed. For developing countries such as China and India, energy saving and efficiency enhancement are currently the key points, while for developed countries and regions such as Europe, more efforts have been focused on carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS). Global CCUS projects have been previously conducted, and the majority of CCUS projects are currently performed in Europe where major projects such as the CEMCAP, CLEANKER, and IEILAC projects represent the latest research progress in cement production technologies and low-carbon technologies for the global cement industry. As a high-energy-consuming sector, China's light sector should have received more attention for its carbon emissions (CO 2 e). However, the literature on energy-related CO 2 e in China's light sector is limited at present. This paper aims to assess the impact of China's light sector on CO 2 e. This paper applies the energy consumption technique, input-output analysis technique, and structural decomposition model to analyze China's light sector energy-related CO 2 e and emission reduction from the input-output perspective. The results show that the energy structure effect, energy intensity effect, and input structure effect are the main restraining factors for the growth of the light sector energy-related CO 2 e, which are caused by the expansion of the energy utilization structure on the supply side of the light sector. The final demand effect is the factor promoting the growth of the light sector energy-related CO 2 e. It reveals that the final demand products in the light sector still have high environmental degradation features. Investigating the CO 2 abatement potential of urban residential building from systematic perspective is essential to reach the urban carbon neutrality target. However, previous studies on building CO 2 emission trend forecasting were mainly focused on the building operational phase. In this study, a new framework that includes four building stages under a system dynamic model is developed to simulate urban residential building carbon emission changes and the related reduction potentials under three scenarios in Jiangxi Province up to 2060. Results showed that the overall process carbon emission dynamic had already peaked in 2014 under the three scenarios, with a peak value of 38.52 Mt. It then fell to 9.56 Mt in 2060 under the baseline (BAU) scenario. More importantly, seven carbon abatement measures were adopted during four building activities in this study, and the total carbon reduction was not the sum of the carbon reduction potential of the individual measures. Some carbon abatement strategies displayed synergistic effects such as low-carbon electrification where the combination of electrification and clean energy power generation was the largest contributor to reduced carbon emissions during building operation as a comprehensive carbon reduction measure. By contrast, extending a building's lifetime restrained the carbon abatement potential during the demolition stage, and it inhibited the carbon emission reduction by 24.84 Mt. Household consumption carbon emissions (HCCEs) have become the main growth point of China's carbon emissions in the future. It is important to investigate the factors affecting the demand-side carbon emissions in order to find the accurate entry point of emission reduction and achieve carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals. Different from previous studies, this study analyzed the spatial and temporal evolution characteristics of provincial HCCEs in China from a spatial perspective by using the Theil index and spatial auto-correlation and explored the key influencing factors and spatial spillover effects of HCCEs in different regions by using an econometric model. The results of the study showed that: (1) Per capita HCCEs increased by 11.90% annually, and the eastern region > northeastern region > western region > central region. (2) There were regional differences in per capita HCCEs, but the decrease was significant at 40.32%. (3) The spatial agglomeration effect of per capita HCCEs was significant, and the hot spots were mainly concentrated in the eastern coastal areas. (4) From the national level, every 1% increase in residents' consumption power would increase HCCEs by 2.489%. Which was the main factor for the growth of HCCEs, while the increase in fixed asset investment would restrain HCCEs. At the regional level, the change in population size significantly increased the HCCEs in the eastern and central regions. While for the western region, a 1% increase in population would reduce the HCCEs by 0.542%. For the eastern and central regions, the degree of aging and the consumption structure of residents could suppress regional HCCEs. However, the consumption structure of residents drove the growth of HCCEs in the western region. This paper constructs a carbon quota allocation index that takes into account equity, efficiency and ecological construction, and calculates carbon emissions and energy consumption data in important periods based on the expected carbon emission targets and economic and social development indicators of the Chinese government. Based on the calculated carbon emissions, the zero-sum game data Envelopment model (ZSG-DEA) is used to discuss the initial allocation of regional quotas and the optimal carbon quota scheme. The results show that:(1) there is a large gap between the optimal carbon quota and the initial carbon quota allocation in Shandong, Guangdong, Jiangsu and other provinces in 2025, and the implementation of emission reduction measures should be accelerated. (2) By 2030, the final allocation of Beijing, Tianjin, Inner Mongolia, Qinghai, Shanghai, Ningxia, Liaoning and Xinjiang will be positive. The provinces with negative final allocation should carry out the work of carbon peak as soon as possible to avoid increasing the pressure of emission reduction in the future. (3) The central region faces greater pressure of emission reduction, while the western region can accept the transfer of carbon emissions from other regions over time. Aquaculture ponds are potential hotspots for carbon cycling and emission of greenhouse gases (GHGs) like CO 2 and CH 4 , but they are often poorly assessed in the global GHG budget. This study determined the temporal variations of CO 2 and CH 4 concentrations and diffusive fluxes and their environmental drivers in coastal aquaculture ponds in southeastern China over a five-year period (2017-2021). The findings indicated that CH 4 flux from aquaculture ponds fluctuated markedly year-to-year, and CO 2 flux varied between positive and negative between years. The coefficient of inter-annual variation of CO 2 and CH 4 diffusive fluxes was 168% and 127%, respectively, highlighting the importance of long-term observations to improve GHG assessment from aquaculture ponds. In addition to chlorophyll-a and dissolved oxygen as the common environmental drivers, CO 2 was further regulated by total dissolved phosphorus and CH 4 by dissolved organic carbon. Feed conversion ratio correlated positively with both CO 2 and CH 4 concentrations and fluxes, showing that unconsumed feeds fueled microbial GHG production. A linear regression based on binned (averaged) monthly CO 2 diffusive flux data, calculated from CO 2 concentrations, can be used to estimate CH 4 diffusive flux with a fair degree of confidence (r 2  = 0.66; p < 0.001). This algorithm provides a simple and practical way to assess the total carbon diffusive flux from aquaculture ponds. Renewable energy (RE) plays a crucial role in global energy transformation, and a thorough study of the potential impact of RE on regional carbon emissions is of great significance. This is particularly relevant to China, which needs to clarify its path to carbon reduction. Using the sample data of 30 provinces in China from 2000 to 2021, this paper uses the Granger causality test to verify the causal relationship between carbon emission intensity (CEI) and other factors. It builds a mediation effect model on this basis to explore the direct impact effect and indirect transmission path of renewable energy utilization (REU) on CEI. The results show that REU has a one-way causal relationship with CEI. REU can directly and indirectly reduce CEI by improving social wealth and changing the direction of energy investment. In addition, REU indirectly increases CEI through the transmission paths of investment in the energy industry - social affluence and industrial level-social affluence. The CEI is indirectly reduced through the conduction paths of (social affluence-Urbanization rate), (Investment in the energy industry-Urbanization rate), (Industrial level-Urbanization rate), and (Industrial level-Investment in the energy industry). Natural gas (NG) is a low-carbon fuel that is becoming a crucial transitional energy in China for reducing carbon emissions. In this study, a life-cycle assessment was performed to correlate carbon emissions and NG consumption for different end uses in China. A bottom-up life-cycle assessment framework was combined with carbon emission coefficients to quantify NG consumption in 31 Chinese provinces between 2017 and 2021, as well as the carbon emissions (in carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) equivalents, including CO 2 and methane) released during NG production, transportation, and consumption. The carbon emission factors for different types of end-use consumption were considered. The assessment results indicate that both NG consumption and life-cycle carbon emissions from NG use have increased since 2017. Between 2017 and 2021, NG consumption in China increased from 260 to 370 billion cubic meters and life-cycle carbon emissions from NG increased by 39% (from 930 to 1292 Mt CO 2 ). The carbon emissions released during NG production and transportation accounted for approximately 31% of NG life-cycle emissions. Considerable variations in NG life-cycle carbon emissions were identified across different provinces and sectors, highlighting the need for targeted efforts to reduce carbon emissions. Carbon migration, transformation, and emissions as CO 2 in reservoir and lake systems have been extensively studied. However, uncertainties persist regarding carbon cycling variations in both karst and non-karst regions within large thermal stratified river-reservoir systems. To address this knowledge gap, we combined measurements of water chemistry, isotopic compositions (δ 13 C), partial pressure of CO 2 (pCO 2 ), and CO 2 fluxes (F CO2 ) to elucidate the differences, control mechanisms, and environmental effects of various carbon biogeochemical processes in the Hongjiadu reservoir (HJD, karst reservoir) and Shangyoujiang reservoir (SYJ, non-karst reservoir), Yangtze River basin, China. Our results demonstrate that key biogeochemical processes are associated with CO 2 production and emissions. The stronger biological carbon pump (BCP) effect in the lentic area of the HJD reservoir limited CO 2 emission (0.9 ± 5.0 mmol m -2  d -1 ) compared to the SYJ reservoir (50.9 ± 33.4 mmol m -2  d -1 ), leading to low dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) and high saturation state of carbonate minerals in the lentic epilimnion. Although the released water from both reservoirs acted as hotspots for CO 2 emissions, the results of higher Revelle factor (RF) in the HJD reservoir than SYJ reservoir suggest the greater buffer capacity and lower sensitivity of OC degradation changes in DIC. Despite the shorter hydraulic retention time (HRT) of SYJ reservoir (120 d) compared to HJD reservoir (368 d), F CO2 was 3.5 times higher than that of the HJD reservoir (652.9 mmol m -2  d -1 ). Moreover, upon analyzing selected reservoirs worldwide, it becomes apparent that karst reservoirs demonstrate a reduced potential for CO 2 emissions. Climate change is an important issue for cities today and in the future. At present, China has a large population and complex climate conditions, and cities are also vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate change (Tian, Environ Sustain Dev 6: 153-155 2020). Three-dimensional greening can not only improve the green space system of a city but also have a far-reaching impact on the ecology, image, and economic benefits of a city. Therefore, the study of urban three-dimensional greening is an effective means to deal with climate change strategies. By exploring the influence of traditional greening and three-dimensional greening on Local Climate in Beilin District of Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, the mechanism of three-dimensional greening on urban ecological environment was discussed, and the ecological theory, urban three-dimensional greening theory, and urban local climate zone (LCZ) were referred to. Based on the methods of national climate monitoring, ENVI-met simulation, and field independent measurement, this paper selected a research sample site in the east section of Jianshe Road, Beilin District, Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province, China, and applied ENVI-met software to simulate the thermal stress relationship among building exterior surfaces, plants, and air in the street; quantified the overall ecology of the area; and used measuring instruments. The influence of different types of greening in the base on the site temperature, humidity, CO 2 (carbon dioxide) concentration, wind speed, and other climate factors data was, respectively, measured and analyzed. The grid analysis was used to compare the traditional greening and three-dimensional greening, then the numerical differences of each impact factor were sorted out, and the effect of three-dimensional greening on the improvement of urban ecological environment was discussed by analyzing the climate factors with greater impact. The results show that (1) three-dimensional greening plus traditional greening is the most beneficial mode; (2) in the same environment, according to the parameter of 1.5 m from the ground in the model environment, it can be seen that the temperature of the space treated with three-dimensional greening of buildings is reduced by 3.5-3.6 ℃ compared with the control group, the relative humidity is different by 7-8%, the CO 2 concentration is reduced by about 5%, and the spatial wind speed is relatively small. (3) When the urban green coverage rate is more than 40%, the improvement of temperature is more obvious, if it reaches 50%, the cool phenomenon in summer can be fundamentally changed. From the perspective of human perception, the PMV index increased by 0.27 on average. This paper discusses and analyzes the three-dimensional greening of urban streets in Beilin District, Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province, China, and studies its influence on urban ecology to different degrees. The conclusions are as follows: Different types of greening have different degrees of influence on urban climate. Meanwhile, the experimental results of this paper show that in cities like Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, China, where summer is hot, adding three-dimensional greening to traditional street greening can significantly improve the environmental microclimate, which is an effective means to cope with climate change, improve the site environment, and stabilize the urban ecosystem., (© 2023. Since large carbon emissions are transferred through international trade, it is vital to explore the role country-specific trade policy has on carbon-intensive industries. The present study contributes to a deeper understanding of the connection between trade and environment in the literature, especially the impacts of trade barriers on carbon emissions. This topic has received little attention despite the importance of trade barriers to climate change and carbon emissions. Thus, we investigate the asymmetric trade barriers in carbon-intensive industries across different countries and describe the facts and motivations of these trade barriers in carbon-intensive industries. We list some political and trade explanations for the existence of trade barriers and empirically test the impacts of interest groups on trade barriers by the IV-2SLS method. Further, we have observed that certain highly developed countries, including Belgium, Switzerland, and Japan, are providing a notable implicit subsidy valued at over 200 USD per ton for carbon-intensive imported products. Tidal rivers are key biochemical reaction channels along the land-ocean aquatic continuum, receiving carbon from wastewater and agricultural drains, which can considerably affect CO 2 emissions. We developed a two-dimensional hydrodynamic and ecological model coupled with an inorganic carbon module along the Tan River in southern China. The simulations of and observations regarding discharge, temperature, total organic carbon (TOC), total inorganic carbon (TIC), and other common water quality variables were generally in good agreement. Based on the validated model, we employed statistical and scenario analyses to evaluate the carbon distribution, TOC and TIC budgets, and the imbalances induced by climatic and anthropogenic changes, providing insights into their potential greenhouse effect. The Tan River was consistently supersaturated with CO 2 with an annual mean air-water CO 2 emission flux (FCO 2 ) of 226.1 ± 84.9 mmol m -2 d -1 , and significant temporal and spatial variations of FCO 2 , TOC, and TIC were observed. Urban small streams tended to emit additional CO 2 during wet seasons, and rural tributaries usually had an increase in TOC concentrations during the dry season. FCO 2 was significantly positively correlated with air temperature and negatively correlated with total nitrogen, total phosphorus, and TOC. The annual riverine input of carbon to the urban river network was 17.37 Gg C yr -1 , with 59.82% of TOC, and carbon output was 15.31 Gg C yr -1 , with 66.87% of TOC. The retention rates for TOC and total carbon were 50.7% and 11.8% in the urban branch, respectively. Furthermore, warming and wastewater treatment could prevent urban river networks and downstream rivers from becoming carbon sources. Increased CO 2 emissions from urban energy consumption pose a significant challenge to regional carbon mitigation policies. In this paper, we integrated two nighttime light (NTL) data: the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) Operational Linescan System (OLS) and the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) on the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (NPP) composite data to estimate the energy carbon emissions from 2000 to 2019. Then the spatiotemporal dynamics of carbon footprint and deficit in the Yellow River Basin were analyzed at the provincial, municipal, and county scales combined with NPP data. The study shows that (1) the total amount of energy consumption CO 2 emissions in the Yellow River Basin had increased from 1332 Mt in 2000 to 6469 Mt in 2019, but the average annual growth rate slowed down after 2010 from 11.5 to 5.61%. (2) From 2000 to 2018, the provinces with the highest carbon footprint and carbon deficit were concentrated in Inner Mongolia and Shanxi. In 2018, Inner Mongolia's carbon footprint was 1366.91 × 10 4 km 2 , accounting for 22.8% of the total. Cities with high carbon footprint were mainly economic centers and energy-intensive areas of various provinces. High-carbon deficit counties were mainly distributed in the western region. In 2018, 954 counties exhibited carbon deficits. (3) The carbon footprint in the Yellow River Basin at the municipal and county scales have a significant spatial correlation. The H-H clusters of the carbon footprint on the municipal scale were distributed in the middle reaches of the Yellow River Basin. At the county scale, the L-L clusters were mainly in Sichuan and eastern Henan regions. Through the analysis of the spatial and temporal evolution of carbon footprint and carbon deficit in the Yellow River Basin, it is significant to measure the degree of comprehensive coordination of carbon sources and sinks in the basin, to grasp the differences in the level of regional carbon emissions, and to promote synergistic regional governance, assist in the formulation of more precise carbon emission reduction policies, and to promote green and high-quality development., (© 2023. China's aims of achieving CO 2 emissions peak by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060 are crucial in guiding international efforts to mitigate climate change. Amine-based solvent technologies for capturing CO 2 on a large scale have been implemented as retrofits in various industrial facilities, with a particular focus on coal-fired power plants. Nonetheless, its implementation within the waste-to-energy (WTE) industry is considerably limited and non-existent in China. This work presents a technical and economic evaluation of retrofitting a generic WTE facility in China with a carbon capture system. A rate-based process simulation model of the capture plant was developed in Aspen Plus, and the effect of equipment installation factors on capital cost was evaluated via the enhanced detailed factor (EDF) method. A set of key performance indicators were evaluated. The findings indicate that the energy demand linked to the capture system caused a decrease in efficiency by 13.17%, 14.85%, and 16.56% at 85%, 90%, and 95% capture rates, respectively, and the overall exergy efficiency of the system was reduced by 5.5%, 8.27%, and 10.63%, respectively. The estimated CO 2 captured costs range from €56.41/tCO 2 to €58.95/tCO 2 , while CO 2 avoided costs range from €153.33/tCO 2 to €236.47/tCO 2 . Retrofitting a CO 2 capture unit at WTE facilities has the potential to substantially contribute to achieving the country's emission reduction targets. However, the successful implementation requires a comprehensive policy structure. It is crucial for the development of carbon reduction strategies to accurately examine the spatial distribution of carbon emissions. Limited by data availability and lack of industry segmentation, previous studies attempting to model spatial carbon emissions still suffer from significant uncertainty. Taking Pudong New Area as an example, with the help of multi-source data, this paper proposed a research framework for the amount calculation and spatial distribution simulation of its CO 2 emissions at the scale of urban functional zones (UFZs). The methods used in this study were based on mapping relations among the locations of geographic entities and data of multiple sources, using the coefficient method recommended by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) to calculate emissions. The results showed that the emission intensity of industrial zones and transport zones was much higher than that of other UFZs. In addition, Moran's I test indicated that there was a positive spatial autocorrelation in high emission zones, especially located in industrial zones. The spatial analysis of CO 2 emissions at the UFZ scale deepened the consideration of spatial heterogeneity, which could contribute to the management of low carbon city and the optimal implementation of energy allocation., (© 2023. CO2 huff and puff is a widely used enhanced oil recovery method in many oil fields, but its implementations in shale fields is scarce. This paper reports trials of CO2 huff and puff in a shale field in China. Laboratory studies revealed that CO2 effectively reduced oil viscosity, increased oil volume, and improved oil recovery under miscible conditions. For the three wells that received CO2 huff and puff treatments, one well showed satisfactory results, while the other two wells demonstrated poor economics.
