This paper seeks to gain insights into teachers' perceptions, and readiness to integrate information and communication technology (ICT) tools in mathematics instruction. A mixed-methods approach was employed, involving surveys and interviews with a sample of high school mathematics teachers. The study involved 90 mathematics teachers working in three senior high schools in Kumasi metropolis in Ghana. The study revealed that teachers generally hold positive perceptions of the benefits of ICT tools in mathematics teaching. They strongly agree that ICT tools enhance students' understanding of mathematical concepts and improve their engagement and motivation in mathematics classes. Teachers also recognize the potential of ICT tools in promoting problem-solving skills and providing opportunities for differentiation and personalized learning. However, opinions regarding student-centered learning, exploration, and creativity through ICT tools were more varied, suggesting a need for further investigation and support in these areas. In addition teachers expressed the need for continuous training on specific tools, curriculum alignment, and assessment methods.

Feedback is a foundational communicative aspect of the teaching/learning processes in introductory communication courses as students seek to improve their presentational speaking skills throughout the term. Drawing on 1,673 qualitative questionnaire responses, this paper explores how students used and interpreted instructor feedback. Through our thematic analysis of a randomly selected subset of 335 responses, we identified two tensions in how students used and interpreted instructor feedback: (1) feedback as a process vs. a product and (2) feedback as integrated into the course structure vs. a justification for a grade. Theoretically, this research extends Feedback Intervention Theory by highlighting the importance and nuance of this communicative process in educational settings. Pedagogically, our findings emphasize the need for discursive opportunities that facilitate the co-construction of meaning surrounding the feedback provided in the introductory communication course.

The curriculum review and transformation project reported in this paper represents an intentional and collaborative effort of faculty and administrators in one academic department to implement meaningful changes in undergraduate curricula. Supported by two internal grants from the university, this three-year project included all faculty and administrators of the department. A systematic comparison was conducted between course syllabi content before and after the curriculum content intervention. Results identify changes in syllabi, course learning objectives, units/topics covered, and readings/course materials. Discussion provides implications for curriculum revision and suggestions for best practices to integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion across curricula.

Feedback is identified in the works of researchers as an essential element for improving the learning process of students. Research shows that lecturer's feedback creates value when it provides not only appraisal information but also links to further learning. This type of feedback affects the learner's information behaviour, i.e., encourages searching for additional information and using it in the learning process. The paper aims to analyze the peculiarities of students' information behaviour during feedback. The research object is investigated from an information science perspective, using theories of information behaviour. An exploratory quantitative survey of 111 Communication BA students from Vilnius University, Lithuania, was conducted. The results of the study revealed the characteristics of feedback inspired by information behaviour: the feedback provided by the lecture is the primary source of information; feedback promotes individual information search; timely feedback encourages proactive information behaviour.

The use of information and communications technology (ICT) in higher education institutions has increased in the past 20 years. While ICT has brought many benefits to students and faculty, research shows that it also creates barriers and challenges for students with disabilities due to the inaccessibility of digital tools and learning materials. Faculty members play an important role in inclusive higher education. Previous studies have emphasised the need to train faculty about digital accessibility to achieve inclusion in higher education. This systematic literature review aims to study existing work on increasing the faculty members' competence in providing accessible and inclusive digital learning materials and environments to students in higher education. Sixteen peer-reviewed papers were included and analysed. Most trainings included topics on disability and awareness, legislation, and methods of producing accessible digital materials and providing inclusive digital learning environments. While surveys and interviews were mostly used to evaluate training outcomes, there was a lack of objective data and commonly accepted instrument for evaluation. Good practices and further research opportunities are identified. This study has implications for researchers and higher education institutions that are interested in research and practice on increasing general competence in digital accessibility and inclusive education.

In this paper I suggest a pragmatic model for the notion of 'information' used in molecular biology in the description of protein synthesis. Discarding any ontological commitments of the term 'information', I propose a view of information based on an analogy with communication. This view could at least supplement the existing information-metaphor that should be updated for two reasons: (i) the concept of information it presupposes, and (ii) the origin of the metaphor itself. Besides, the metaphorical nature of the notion of 'information' is still often overlooked, which leads to a false sense of understanding of the underlying genetic phenomena it should describe. The advantages of a model based on communication, as it is seen by the field of pragmatics, is twofold: (i) it provides a rather simple analogy between human communication and basic genetic processes, and (ii) it supplies the tools for the understanding of the non-literal use of the term 'information'.

This paper explores partnership representations in the Trustees' Annual Reports & Accounts (TARA) of English and Welsh international non-governmental organisations (INGOs). INGOs are prominent global actors, whose TARA serve important accountability purposes, while also acting as key fundraising communications. The study uses thematic analysis to examine 83 TARA published between 2014 and 2018 by 29 INGOs. Findings show that in these TARAs' narrative sections, partnership relationships are largely described using the language of collaboration, yet accord the INGO the primary role. In the subsequent managerial and financial sections, however, these relationships are presented as a hierarchy, focusing on upwards accountability from project partners to the INGO. These presentations suggest that INGOs continue to embed power inequalities in their partnership relationships. Furthermore, drawing on stakeholder theory, this exploratory study argues that the contradiction found demonstrates that INGO reporting prioritises legitimation rather than authenticity, and obfuscates understanding of international development partnership relationships. We cover the latest advancements in millimeter-wave and beamforming technologies, emphasizing their role in enhancing network security and efficiency in automotive vehicles through dual radar communication. Our discussion spans the benefits, applications, challenges, and solutions of these technologies individually from millimeter-wave to beamforming technologies and joint radar communications, alongside a look at their theoretical and practical implementations. We emphasize the integration of beamforming technology in joint radar communications for future automotive vehicles and its impact on automotive systems, smart cities, and the Internet of Things (IoT). Looking ahead, we discuss the potential of these technologies to transform future technology landscapes while also addressing the security implications of merging communication and radar capabilities. This paper advocates for spatial simultaneous functioning (SSF) over time division multiple access (TDMA) in joint communication and sensing (JCAS) scenarios for improved resource utilization and reduced interference. SSF enables the concurrent operation of communication and sensing systems, enhancing flexibility and efficiency, especially in dynamic environments. The study introduces joint design communication and sensing scenarios for single input single output (SISO) and multiple input multiple output (MIMO) JCAS receivers. An MIMO-JCAS base station (BS) is proposed to process downlink communication signals and echo signals from targets simultaneously using interference cancellation techniques. We evaluate the communication performance and sensing estimation across both Rayleigh and measured realistic channels. Additionally, a deep neural network (DNN)-based approach for channel estimation and signal detection in JCAS systems is presented. The DNN outperforms the traditional methods in the bit error rate (BER) versus signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) curves, leveraging its ability to learn complex patterns autonomously. The DNN's training process fine-tunes the performance based on specific problem characteristics, capturing the nuanced relationships within data and adapting to varying SNR conditions for consistently superior performance compared to the traditional approaches. Fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) technology is a promising solution for providing advanced service delivery to end-users, but its implementation requires substantial capital expenditures. To minimize investment risks and aid decision-making for access service providers, we propose a game theoretic framework based on a modified Nash genetic algorithm. We illustrate how this framework can be applied to analyze the competition between access providers offering a flat-rate FTTH service on multiple geographical areas. Each provider determines its price for all areas simultaneously and decides whether to invest on a particular area depending on the anticipated revenues. Two distinct demand models are adopted to describe different types of consumer behavior. A solution engine, based on a modified mixed-variable Nash genetic algorithm is implemented under an open-source license. The significance and practical implications of the equilibrium points obtained for both single and multiple area games are discussed. The proposed framework and the solution engine developed, aid both providers and regulatory bodies to analyze competitive environments. Despite the global cancellations of sport due to COVID-19, the Australian Football League commenced the 2020 season in empty stadiums. It was one of the few sports still being played globally before the league postponed the season days later. This handful of games helped fans to maintain connection with their sport and teams, albeit only on media platforms. This paper analyses user-generated content from Twitter (n = 2,484) to explore how fans engaged with, integrated, and responded to sport in a global crisis, as well as how they navigated and rationalized their fan experience during this unprecedented time. It focuses particularly on understanding evolving perceptions of sport's role and importance in society amid evolving uncertainty, due to macro influences that cause conflict and tension within figurations. In northeast Russia, the famous historic Kolyma Road spans two thousand kilometers across two federal subjects of the Russian Federation: the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) and Magadan Oblast. Thousands of people live along and in close proximity to the road, depending on it for communication, mobility, goods, and life support. As the major transportation infrastructure in the entire region, it should be reliable and stable for local communities' well-being. One strategic approach to ensure its reliability is to acknowledge the role of Indigenous knowledge, which has been neglected despite being established long before the emergence of existing formal systems of communication. Based on data collected through fieldwork, personal observations, and conversations, this paper aims to demonstrate that Indigenous knowledge regarding ways of living, moving, and communicating along and on the road is the key to sustainability in the region. As a result, we claim that this realization should be manifested in designing and implementing communication and mobility systems based on the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion. In the long term, it is necessary to develop a sustainable road management system for the Kolyma Road to ensure the security and well-being of local communities and for everyone visiting and working on the road. E-health is being adapted in modern hospitals as a significant addition to the existing healthcare services. To this end, modern hospitals urgently require a mobile, high-capacity, secure, and cost-effective communication infrastructure. In this paper, we explore potential applications of a hybrid broadband power line communication (PLC) and Wi-Fi in an indoor hospital scenario. It utilizes the existing power line cables and Wi-Fi plug-and-play devices for indoor broadband communication. Broadband power line (BPL) adaptors with Wi-Fi outputs are used to build an access network in hospitals, particularly in areas where the wireless router signal is poor. The Tenda PH10 AV1,000 AC Wi-Fi power line adapter is a set of BPL adapters that offer operational bandwidth of up to 1,000 Mbps. These adapters are based on the HomePlug AV2 protocol and can provide a data rate up to 200 Mbps on the physical layer. An experiment using the PLC Wi-Fi kit is carried out to show that a Wi-Fi and PLC hybrid network is the best candidate to provide wide range of practical applications in a hospital including, but not limited to, telemedicine, electronic medical records, early-stage disease diagnosis, health management, real-time monitoring, and remote surgeries. The success of the premiere of the film Barbie is undeniable in terms of box office and social impact; however, another of the aspects in which the film stands out is its impact in terms of communication and promotion. The aim of this paper is to analyse the impact that the official Barbie account had on social networks during the week of the premiere. To achieve this objective, a quantitative methodology based on the Fanpage Karma social network analysis tools was used. Among the main results, it is worth highlighting that TikTok emerges as the communication and marketing channel that generates the most engagement, to the detriment of Facebook and Twitter (X). This paper analyzes the fundamental trade-offs that occur in the co-design of pilot resource allocations in orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing signals for both ranging (via time-of-arrival estimation) and communications. These trade-offs are quantified through the Shannon capacity bound, probability of outage, and the Ziv–Zakai bound on range estimation variance. Bounds are derived for signals experiencing frequency-selective Rayleigh block fading, accounting for the impact of limited channel knowledge and multi-antenna reception. Uncompensated carrier frequency offset and phase errors are also factored into the capacity bounds. Analysis based on the derived bounds demonstrates how Pareto-optimal design choices can be made to optimize the communication throughput, probability of outage, and ranging variance. This paper elucidates the importance of creating backup communication channels in emergencies when access to cellular and satellite communication systems can be limited. The purpose of the study is to substantiate the use of LoRaWAN technology as a basis for building reliable backup communication facilities. A block diagram of the device has been proposed, which is used as an example for modeling the autonomy time of the device. It is shown that, depending on the mode of operation, this time ranges from 150 to 900 days. To estimate the radio accessibility zone of the device, the maximum transmission range was modeled using various models of radio wave propagation. The results of the investigations have shown that the developed emergency communication system based on the LoRaWAN protocol is effective and superior to other wireless communication technologies under certain conditions. Recently, the use of uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs) in joint sensing and communication applications has received a lot of attention. However, integrating UAVs in current cellular systems presents major challenges related to trajectory optimization and interference management among others. This paper considers a multi-cell network including a UAV, which senses and forwards the sensory data from different events to the central base station. Particularly, the current manuscript covers how to design the UAV's ({i} ) 3D trajectory, (ii) power allocation, and (iii) sensing scheduling such that (a) a set of events are sensed, (b) interference to neighboring cells is kept at bay, and (c) the amount of energy required by the UAV is minimized. The resulting nonconvex optimization problem is tackled through a combination of ({i} ) low-complexity binary optimization, (ii) successive convex approximation, and (iii) the Lagrangian method. Simulation results over a range of various key parameters have shown the merits of our approach, which consumes 33%-200% less energy compared to different benchmarks.

Hand gesture recognition using a camera provides an intuitive and promising means of human-computer interaction and allows operators to execute commands and control machines with simple gestures. Research in hand gesture recognition-based control systems has garnered significant attention, yet the deploying of microcontrollers into this domain remains relatively insignificant. In this study, we propose a novel approach utilizing micro-hand gesture recognition built on micro-bottleneck Residual and micro-bottleneck Conv blocks. Our proposed model, comprises only 42K parameters, is optimized for size to facilitate seamless operation on resource-constrained hardware. Benchmarking conducted on STM32 microcontrollers showcases remarkable efficiency, with the model achieving an average prediction time of just 269ms, marking a 7× faster over the state-of-art model. Notably, despite its compact size and enhanced speed, our model maintains competitive performance result, achieving an accuracy of 99.6% on the ASL dataset and 92% on OUHANDS dataset. These findings underscore the potential for deploying advanced control methods on compact, costeffective devices, presenting promising avenues for future research and industrial applications. In 2020, the Misogyny Speech resurfaced and went viral on the social media platform TikTok, almost a decade after former Prime Minister Julia Gillard first presented it in Australian Parliament. This research aims to comprehend the speech's virality through a lens of fandom theory using qualitative content analysis, to explore how users foster community and perform elements of political fandom. It considers the influence of the platform's affordances and architecture on the formation and productivity of this fandom community. The speech's resurgence in popularity can be characterised as a manifestation of political fandom, shaped by the platform in which it thrives. The way users embody the elements that typify political fandoms – productivity and consumption, affect, community, and contestation – is profoundly influenced by the affordances and structures of TikTok. We explore an oscillator with nonlinear functions and equilibrium lines that displays chaos. The equilibrium stability and complexity of the oscillator have been analysed and investigated. The presence of multiple equilibrium lines sets it apart from previously reported oscillators. The synchronization of the oscillator is considered as an application for secure communications. An observer is designed by considering a transmitted signal as a state, in other words, by injecting a linear function satisfying Lipschitz's condition to the proposed oscillator. Autonomous systems are becoming increasingly relevant in our everyday life. The transportation field is no exception and the smart cities concept raises new tasks and challenges for the development of autonomous systems development which has been progressively researched in literature. One of the main challenges is communication between different traffic objects. For instance, a mobile robot system can work as a standalone autonomous system reacting to a static environment and avoiding obstacles to reach a target. Nevertheless, more intensive communication and decision making is needed when additional dynamic objects and other autonomous systems are present in the same working environment. Traffic is a complicated environment consisting of vehicles, pedestrians, and various infrastructure elements. To apply autonomous systems in this kind of environment it is important to integrate object localization and to guarantee functional and trustworthy communication between each element. To achieve this, various sensors, communication standards, and equipment are integrated via the application of sensor fusion and AI machine learning methods. In this work review of vehicular communication systems is presented. The main focus is the researched sensors, communication standards, devices, machine learning methods, and vehicular-related data to find existing gaps for future vehicular communication system development. Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology has emerged as a promising solution for enhancing the integration of electric vehicles (EVs) into the electric grid, offering benefits, such as distributed energy resource (DER) integration, grid stability support, and peak demand management, among others, as well as environmental advantages. This study provides a comprehensive review of V2G systems, with a specific focus on the role of the communication, as they have been identified as key enablers, as well as the challenges that V2G must face. It begins by introducing the fundamentals of V2G systems, including their architecture, operation, and a description of the benefits for different sectors. It then delves into the communication technologies and protocols in V2G systems, highlighting the key requirements in achieving reliable and efficient communication between EVs and the different agents involved. A comprehensive review of communication standards is described, as well as the main communication technologies, which are evaluated in terms of their suitability for V2G applications. Furthermore, the study discusses the challenges and environmental implications of V2G technology, emphasizing the importance of addressing strong and reliable communications to maximize its potential benefits. Finally, future research directions and potential solutions for overcoming challenges in V2G systems are outlined, offering useful insights for researchers, policymakers, and administrations as well as related industry stakeholders. The purpose of the study was to observe how public libraries' communication on Twitter has been changed before, during, and after the COVID-19 outbreak. A total of 40 active, public library Twitter accounts were used for data collection and analysis. The tweets examined were a combination of original tweets (n = 2623) and retweets (n = 666) posted from other Twitter accounts on the public libraries' Twitter feeds. A content analysis scheme was used to analyze topical aspects of the tweets. The study found that public libraries were more active in communicating information on social media during the COVID-19 lockdown period. Promoting library events/programs, communicating library operations to patrons, and highlighting library resources for literacy are common in public libraries' Twitter communication throughout the 3 years period. The study also observed strong associations between the content types of posts and the contextual aspects of the libraries, including an emergency situation such as the COVID-19 lockdown, the size of the population served by the library, and the state in which the library was located. In other words, the study provides evidence that public libraries use different communication strategies on Twitter depending on factors such as community emergencies, service population size, or geographic location. The results of this study illustrate that through social media usage, public libraries demonstrate their competence as public agencies in managing their services, as well as their commitment to the core value of information access and service provision to users, even in the face of unprecedented crises. The main objective of the study of semiotic theory provides a framework for understanding how humans use signs to make sense of their environment. Semiotic theory holds that signs do not convey meaning that is inherent in the object being represented. Semiotics is a method of studying communication that focuses on all types of communication rather than just spoken or written language. Semiotics, also known as Sign, is any object that can communicate meaning to a sign interpreter. The meaning could be intentional or accidental. The sign may also convey feelings that are reflected on the mind by any of these senses, such as visual, tactile, auditory, imaginary, and others. Signs and sign processes, symbolism, metaphor, indication, designation, and communication are all relevant subjects to explore as well as investigate the systems of nonverbal communication. The logical dimension of visuals as semiotics will be the focus of this paper.

Introduction/purpose: All data exchanged over the Internet as well as other computer networks should be considered exposed to various types of security threats. In light of this, the transmission of voice over applications that do not use any type of crypto-protection allows anyone to discern the content of communication. Since voice transmission requires as little delay as possible, various protocols are used to enable crypto protected real-time communication. This paper presents one solution in a desktop application variant. Methods: The essence in voice exchange systems as well as in other systems where real-time communication is necessary is the establishment of a crypto-protected session which is a virtual secure channel for communication to which only the communicating parties have access. Voice sessions in the application are established with the SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) protocol. The sessions are further protected using the ZRTP (Zimmerman Real-time Transport Protocol) protocol. FusionPBX was used as the SIP server (registrar) for testing purpouses. The application is developed in C++ language using the Qt framework. Results: The final version of the application demostrates that ZRTP and SIP protocols are well suited for establishing crypto protected voice communications with low delay. Conclusion: This solution provides cryptographic functions for data secrecy and the management of cryptographic keys. Improving the solution with digital signatures and certificates will result in additional cryptographic functions: data integrity and personal identification. With this improvement, this solution will be able to withstand modern security threats with low delay.

The U.S. healthcare system is by far the most expensive per capita in the world and does not deliver the best outcomes. The literature shows that the U.S. population is distressed about what it is paying for and is especially distressed about people and companies that it perceives as sacrificing the public good for personal profit. Nevertheless, studies show high levels of trust in nurses, pharmacists, personal physicians, fire and security officers, engineers, and other practitioners who provide services at the local scale. Artificial intelligence (AI) poses an opportunity to reduce healthcare costs, yet it concerns the public because its misuse may violate personal boundaries, spread inaccurate data, and lead to other undesirable outcomes. The literature illustrates the benefits of cooperative relationships between community groups, local governments, and experts using new AI tools in support of local public health and well-being programs. One important example is preventing and reducing the consequences of acute hazard events. Overall, this review makes a case that focusing on the community scale represents an opportunity to improve health and well-being outcomes by establishing trusted and sustainable relationships. Integrating Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) into marine cyberdefense systems can address the lack of trustworthiness and low interpretability inherent in complex black-box Network Intrusion Detection Systems (NIDS) models. XAI has emerged as a pivotal focus in achieving a zero-trust cybersecurity strategy within marine communication networks. This article presents the development of a zero-trust NIDS framework designed to detect contemporary marine cyberattacks, utilizing two modern datasets (2023 Edge-IIoTset and 2023 CICIoT). The zero-trust NIDS model achieves an optimal Matthews Correlation Coefficient (MCC) score of 97.33% and an F1-score of 99% in a multi-class experiment. The XAI approach leverages visual and quantitative XAI methods, specifically SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) and the Local Interpretable Model-agnostic Explanations (LIME) algorithms, to enhance explainability and interpretability. The research results indicate that current black-box NIDS models deployed for marine cyberdefense can be made more reliable and interpretable, thereby improving the overall cybersecurity posture of marine organizations. Background: Media campaigns targeting young people are a valuable tool for promoting awareness about tobacco harm reduction (THR). Advocacy and communication efforts that inform about the risks of tobacco use, THR strategies, and smoking cessation methods can enhance policy compliance, minimize tobacco-related damages, and motivate individuals to quit smoking. This study investigates the understanding, perceptions, and capabilities of burgeoning public health advocates in effectively communicating smoking cessation and THR strategies in Africa. Methods: This research adopts a concurrent explanatory sequential design. The target demographic population consists of public health enthusiasts, healthcare students, health communicators, and budding journalists aged 18–30 in Nigeria. The questionnaire, validated through an extensive literature review, was distributed via Google Forms. From 450 individuals expressing interest in the THRjourno project, 415 agreed to participate, responding to open-ended questions on smoking cessation and THR among young people. Data were analysed with Microsoft Excel and IBM SPSS for quantitative aspects, while Atlas.ti was used for the qualitative interpretation of open-ended responses. Results: Of the 415 participants, 73.7% lacked prior knowledge or proper understanding of THR. Most respondents (60.0%) regarded Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) as the most effective THR strategy, with 26.7% favoring e-cigarettes. A majority (73.3%) perceived NRT to be safer than smoking, while 48.3% believed e-cigarettes were safer. Approximately 70.8% agreed that THR products aid in smoking cessation. However, 38.3% were uncertain if these products are addictive. Participants referenced strategies/activities for creating awareness for THR, which include, "More advocacy and sensitization programs should be organized", and "These programs should engage people who smoke tobacco and nicotine products themselves as champions."Ambassadorial roles in public Universities should be granted to students as a medium to proliferate the central message of the THR. Conclusion: Identified barriers to effective THR communication included misinformation propagated by health professionals and the media, religious and cultural constraints, and challenges in reaching remote areas. Strategies to enhance THR communication encompass increased advocacy and communication, government engagement and policy development, simplification of THR messages, and capacity building and engagement of advocates and stakeholders. The United States beef industry is a major stakeholder in national and international agriculture and is driven by technological innovations and beef producers in all 50 states. Beef cattle breed associations are essential to the success of the industry as they not only maintain breed pedigrees but also disseminate vital information to their members. The magazines of beef cattle breed associations are a primary source of communication for U.S. beef producers. Goals for this study were to determine what information beef producers use from their beef breed association magazines, what information they want to see more of in beef breed association magazines, and if producers prefer the magazines in a print or digital format. Uses and gratifications theory, which focuses on the reasons why individuals choose to use a specific communication medium; the effect the medium has on the individual; and the gratifications received through its use, guided this study, along with gatekeeping theory. We used a descriptive quantitative survey research design to disseminate a survey instrument to members of six U.S. beef breed associations. Results revealed a large percentage of survey respondents prefer their beef breed association magazines in a print format. Additionally, results indicate that respondents use association magazines for a variety of information, and they want to see more information related to breed improvement strategies, genetic selection, and technological advancements. Results revealed insightful uses of magazine topics related to breed associations and can be used as a resource to help guide the editorial content of the magazines. We recommend beef cattle breed associations continue to provide magazine content in both print and digital formats and include editorial topics curated to the needs of the beef producers using their magazines. This paper advocates for spatial simultaneous functioning (SSF) over time division multiple access (TDMA) in joint communication and sensing (JCAS) scenarios for improved resource utilization and reduced interference. SSF enables the concurrent operation of communication and sensing systems, enhancing flexibility and efficiency, especially in dynamic environments. The study introduces joint design communication and sensing scenarios for single input single output (SISO) and multiple input multiple output (MIMO) JCAS receivers. An MIMO-JCAS base station (BS) is proposed to process downlink communication signals and echo signals from targets simultaneously using interference cancellation techniques. We evaluate the communication performance and sensing estimation across both Rayleigh and measured realistic channels. Additionally, a deep neural network (DNN)-based approach for channel estimation and signal detection in JCAS systems is presented. The DNN outperforms the traditional methods in the bit error rate (BER) versus signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) curves, leveraging its ability to learn complex patterns autonomously. The DNN’s training process fine-tunes the performance based on specific problem characteristics, capturing the nuanced relationships within data and adapting to varying SNR conditions for consistently superior performance compared to the traditional approaches.
