Purpose: Paper-based artifacts hold significant cultural and social values. However, paper is intrinsically fragile to microorganisms, such as mold, due to its cellulose composition, which can serve as a microorganisms' nutrient source. Mold not only can damage papers' structural integrity and pose significant challenges to conservation works but also may subject individuals attending the contaminated artifacts to health risks. Current approaches for strain identification usually require extensive training, prolonged time for analysis, expensive operation costs, and higher risks of secondary damage due to sampling. Thus, in current conservation practices with mold-contaminated artifacts, little pre-screening or strain identification was performed before mold removal, and the cleaning techniques are usually broad-spectrum rather than strain-specific. With deep learning showing promising applications across various domains, this study investigated the feasibility of using a convolutional neural network (CNN) for fast in-situ recognition and classification of mold on paper. Methods: Molds were first non-invasively sampled from ancient Xuan Paper-based Chinese books from the Qing and Ming dynasties. Strains were identified using molecular biology methods and the four most prevalent strains were inoculated on Xuan paper to create mockups for image collection. Microscopic images of the molds as well as their stains situated on paper were collected using a compound microscope and commercial microscope lens for cell phone cameras, which were then used for training CNN models with a transfer learning scheme to perform the classification of mold. To enable involvement and contribution from the research community, a web interface that actuates the process while providing interactive features for users to learn about the information of the classified strain was constructed. Moreover, a feedback functionality in the web interface was embedded for catching potential classification errors, adding additional training images, or introducing new strains, all to refine the generalizability and robustness of the model. Results & Conclusion: In the study, we have constructed a suite of high-confidence classification CNN models for the diagnostic process for mold contamination in conservation. At the same time, a web interface was constructed that allows recurrently refining the model with human feedback through engaging the research community. Overall, the proposed framework opens new avenues for effective and timely identification of mold, thus enabling proactive and targeted mold remediation strategies in conservation. Background: In low-middle income countries, healthcare providers primarily use paper health records for capturing data. Paper health records are utilized predominately due to the prohibitive cost of acquisition and maintenance of automated data capture devices and electronic medical records. Data recorded on paper health records is not easily accessible in a digital format to healthcare providers. The lack of real time accessible digital data limits healthcare providers, researchers, and quality improvement champions to leverage data to improve patient outcomes. In this project, we demonstrate the novel use of computer vision software to digitize handwritten intraoperative data elements from smartphone photographs of paper anesthesia charts from the University Teaching Hospital of Kigali. We specifically report our approach to digitize checkbox data, symbol-denoted systolic and diastolic blood pressure, and physiological data. Methods: We implemented approaches for removing perspective distortions from smartphone photographs, removing shadows, and improving image readability through morphological operations. YOLOv8 models were used to deconstruct the anesthesia paper chart into specific data sections. Handwritten blood pressure symbols and physiological data were identified, and values were assigned using deep neural networks. Our work builds upon the contributions of previous research by improving upon their methods, updating the deep learning models to newer architectures, as well as consolidating them into a single piece of software. Results: The model for extracting the sections of the anesthesia paper chart achieved an average box precision of 0.99, an average box recall of 0.99, and an mAP0.5-95 of 0.97. Our software digitizes checkbox data with greater than 99% accuracy and digitizes blood pressure data with a mean average error of 1.0 and 1.36 mmHg for systolic and diastolic blood pressure respectively. Overall accuracy for physiological data which includes oxygen saturation, inspired oxygen concentration and end tidal carbon dioxide concentration was 85.2%. Conclusions: We demonstrate that under normal photography conditions we can digitize checkbox, blood pressure and physiological data to within human accuracy when provided legible handwriting. The research groups in computer vision, graphics, and machine learning have dedicated a substantial amount of attention to the areas of 3D object reconstruction, augmentation, and registration. Deep learning is the predominant method used in artificial intelligence for addressing computer vision challenges. However, deep learning on three-dimensional data presents distinct obstacles and is now in its nascent phase. There have been significant advancements in deep learning specifically for three-dimensional data, offering a range of ways to address these issues. This study offers a comprehensive examination of the latest advancements in deep learning methodologies. We examine many benchmark models for the tasks of 3D object registration, augmentation, and reconstruction. We thoroughly analyse their architectures, advantages, and constraints. Scene text detection is an important research field in computer vision, playing a crucial role in various application scenarios. However, existing scene text detection methods often fail to achieve satisfactory results when faced with text instances of different sizes, shapes, and complex backgrounds. To address the challenge of detecting diverse texts in natural scenes, this paper proposes a multi-scale natural scene text detection method based on attention feature extraction and cascaded feature fusion. This method combines global and local attention through an improved attention feature fusion module (DSAF) to capture text features of different scales, enhancing the network's perception of text regions and improving its feature extraction capabilities. Simultaneously, an improved cascaded feature fusion module (PFFM) is used to fully integrate the extracted feature maps, expanding the receptive field of features and enriching the expressive ability of the feature maps. Finally, to address the cascaded feature maps, a lightweight subspace attention module (SAM) is introduced to partition the concatenated feature maps into several sub-space feature maps, facilitating spatial information interaction among features of different scales. In this paper, comparative experiments are conducted on the ICDAR2015, Total-Text, and MSRA-TD500 datasets, and comparisons are made with some existing scene text detection methods. The accurate representation of objects holds pivotal significance in the realm of panoptic segmentation. Presently, prevalent object representation methodologies, including box-based, keypoint-based and query-based techniques, encounter a challenge known as the 'representation confusion' issue in specific scenarios, often resulting in the mislabeling of instances. In response, this paper introduces Convex Object Representation (COR), a straightforward yet highly effective approach to address this problem. COR leverages a CNN-based Euclidean Distance Transform to convert the target instance into a convex heatmap. Simultaneously, it offers a parallel embedding method for encoding the object. Subsequently, COR characterizes objects based on the distinctive embedding vectors of their convex vertices. This paper seamlessly integrates COR into a state-of-the-art query-based panoptic segmentation framework. Experimental findings validate that COR successfully mitigates the representation confusion predicament, enhancing segmentation accuracy. Using instance segmentation and video inpainting provides a significant leap in real-time football video broadcast enhancements by removing potential visual distractions, such as an occasional person or another object accidentally occupying the frame. Despite its relevance and importance in the media industry, this area remains challenging and relatively understudied, thus offering potential for research. Specifically, the segmentation and inpainting of camera operator instances from video remains an underexplored research area. To address this challenge, this paper proposes a framework designed to accurately detect and remove camera operators while seamlessly hallucinating the background in real-time football broadcasts. The approach aims to enhance the quality of the broadcast by maintaining its consistency and level of engagement to retain and attract users during the game. To implement the inpainting task, firstly, the camera operators instance segmentation method should be developed. We used a YOLOv8 model for accurate real-time operator instance segmentation. The resulting model produces masked frames, which are used for further camera operator inpainting. Moreover, this paper presents an extensive "Cameramen Instances" dataset with more than 7500 samples, which serves as a solid foundation for future investigations in this area. The experimental results show that the YOLOv8 model performs better than other baseline algorithms in different scenarios. There is a growing trend of using artificial intelligence, particularly deep learning algorithms, in medical diagnostics, revolutionizing healthcare by improving efficiency, accuracy, and patient outcomes. However, the use of artificial intelligence in medical diagnostics comes with the critical need to explain the reasoning behind artificial intelligence‐based predictions and ensure transparency in decision‐making. Explainable artificial intelligence has emerged as a crucial research area to address the need for transparency and interpretability in medical diagnostics. Explainable artificial intelligence techniques aim to provide insights into the decision‐making process of artificial intelligence systems, enabling clinicians to understand the factors the algorithms consider in reaching their predictions. This paper presents a detailed review of saliency‐based (visual) methods, such as class activation methods, which have gained popularity in medical imaging as they provide visual explanations by highlighting the regions of an image most influential in the artificial intelligence's decision. We also present the literature on non‐visual methods, but the focus will be on visual methods. We also use the existing literature to experiment with infrared breast images for detecting breast cancer. Towards the end of this paper, we also propose an "attention guided Grad‐CAM" that enhances the visualizations for explainable artificial intelligence. The existing literature shows that explainable artificial intelligence techniques are not explored in the context of infrared medical images and opens up a wide range of opportunities for further research to make clinical thermography into assistive technology for the medical community. Emotion recognition has become increasingly important in the field of Deep Learning (DL) and computer vision due to its broad applicability by using human–computer interaction (HCI) in areas such as psychology, healthcare, and entertainment. In this paper, we conduct a systematic review of facial and pose emotion recognition using DL and computer vision, analyzing and evaluating 77 papers from different sources under Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Our review covers several topics, including the scope and purpose of the studies, the methods employed, and the used datasets. The scope of this work is to conduct a systematic review of facial and pose emotion recognition using DL methods and computer vision. The studies were categorized based on a proposed taxonomy that describes the type of expressions used for emotion detection, the testing environment, the currently relevant DL methods, and the datasets used. The taxonomy of methods in our review includes Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), Faster Region-based Convolutional Neural Network (R-CNN), Vision Transformer (ViT), and "Other NNs", which are the most commonly used models in the analyzed studies, indicating their trendiness in the field. Hybrid and augmented models are not explicitly categorized within this taxonomy, but they are still important to the field. This review offers an understanding of state-of-the-art computer vision algorithms and datasets for emotion recognition through facial expressions and body poses, allowing researchers to understand its fundamental components and trends. Point cloud registration is the process of aligning and merging multiple point clouds into a same coordinate system. It has many applications in computer vision, robotics, 3D reconstruction, augmented reality, and autonomous driving. Despite its wide-ranging utility, traditional algorithms grapple with challenges such as substantial noise, outliers, limited overlap, motion distortions, and handling large scenes. These complexities impede the effective deployment of point cloud registration in practical real-world scenarios. This paper conducts a comprehensive inquiry into the domain of deep learning-based point cloud registration. It synthesizes recent advancements in algorithms about point cloud registration grounded in deep learning. The exposition delineates insights from four distinct perspectives: multi-layer perceptron, deep neural network, graph convolutional network, and attention mechanism. Furthermore, the paper systematically reviews prevalent datasets and evaluation metrics associated with deep learning-based point cloud registration. Simple Summary: In the sorting process of Chinese softshell turtles, it is necessary to classify them based on their weight and accurately identify their plastron and carapace. This process requires heavy manual labor and complex mechanical processing methods. To improve processing efficiency and reduce costs, this article introduces machine vision technology, and a new image processing method is proposed. This method can estimate the weight of Chinese softshell turtles and accurately locate the positions of their plastron and carapace. The automation level of aquaculture can be greatly enhanced, and hardware costs can be reduced through software optimization through this approach. With the rapid development of the turtle breeding industry in China, the demand for automated turtle sorting is increasing. The automatic sorting of Chinese softshell turtles mainly consists of three parts: visual recognition, weight prediction, and individual sorting. This paper focuses on two aspects, i.e., visual recognition and weight prediction, and a novel method for the object detection and weight prediction of Chinese softshell turtles is proposed. In the individual sorting process, computer vision technology is used to estimate the weight of Chinese softshell turtles and classify them by weight. For the visual recognition of the body parts of Chinese softshell turtles, a color space model is proposed in this paper to separate the turtles from the background effectively. By applying multiple linear regression analysis for modeling, the relationship between the weight and morphological parameters of Chinese softshell turtles is obtained, which can be used to estimate the weight of turtles well. An improved deep learning object detection network is used to extract the features of the plastron and carapace of the Chinese softshell turtles, achieving excellent detection results. Image semantic segmentation technology is one of the core research contents in the field of computer vision. With the improvement of computer performance and the continuous development of deep learning technology, researchers have more and more enthusiasm to study the actual effect and performance of image semantic segmentation. The results of deep semantic segmentation allow computers to have a more detailed and accurate understanding of images, and have a wide range of application needs in the fields of autonomous driving, intelligent security, medical imaging, remote sensing images, etc. However, the existing image semantic segmentation algorithms have the disadvantages of easy discontinuous results and insufficient prediction accuracy. In this paper, we take deep learning-based image semantic segmentation technology as the research object to explore the improvement of the image semantic segmentation algorithm and its application in road scenarios. First, this paper proposes MCU-Net method based on residual fusion and multi-scale contextual information. MCU-Net uses residual fusion module to deepen the network structure and improve the ability of U-Net to acquire deeper features. Then a top-down and bottom-up path is constructed for feature information between different levels, and the spatial and semantic information contained in shallow and deep features in the network is fully utilized by fusing features from different levels. In addition, an enhanced void space pyramid pooling module is added for feature information between the same levels, which enables the output features to have a larger range of semantic information. Second, this paper proposes the DAMCU-Net method based on attention mechanism and edge detection based on MCU-Net. DAMCU-Net extracts global contextual information by the attention mechanism optimization module, while fusing features using dense jump connections to facilitate the network to recover more spatial detail information during upsampling, and uses the FReLU activation function to improve the segmentation capability of the network for complex targets. For the edge information lost in the feature extraction process, the edge detection branch is added to supplement the feature information of the main path by feature fusion to achieve the optimization of the edge information. Programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression is currently used in the clinic to assess eligibility for immune-checkpoint inhibitors via the tumor proportion score (TPS), but its efficacy is limited by high interobserver variability. Multiple papers have presented systems for the automatic quantification of TPS, but none report on the task of determining cell-level PD-L1 expression and often reserve their evaluation to a single PD-L1 monoclonal antibody or clinical center. In this paper, we report on a deep learning algorithm for detecting PD-L1 negative and positive tumor cells at a cellular level and evaluate it on a cell-level reference standard established by six readers on a multi-centric, multi PD-L1 assay dataset. This reference standard also provides for the first time a benchmark for computer vision algorithms. In addition, in line with other papers, we also evaluate our algorithm at slide-level by measuring the agreement between the algorithm and six pathologists on TPS quantification. We find a moderately low interobserver agreement at cell-level level (mean reader-reader F1 score = 0.68) which our algorithm sits slightly under (mean reader-AI F1 score = 0.55), especially for cases from the clinical center not included in the training set. Despite this, we find good AI-pathologist agreement on quantifying TPS compared to the interobserver agreement (mean reader-reader Cohen's kappa = 0.54, 95% CI 0.26–0.81, mean reader-AI kappa = 0.49, 95% CI 0.27—0.72). In conclusion, our deep learning algorithm demonstrates promise in detecting PD-L1 expression at a cellular level and exhibits favorable agreement with pathologists in quantifying the tumor proportion score (TPS). Enhancing the environmental perception of autonomous vehicles (AVs) in intelligent transportation systems requires computer vision technology to be effective in detecting objects and obstacles, particularly in adverse weather conditions. Adverse weather circumstances present serious difficulties for object-detecting systems, which are essential to contemporary safety procedures, infrastructure for monitoring, and intelligent transportation. AVs primarily depend on image processing algorithms that utilize a wide range of onboard visual sensors for guidance and decisionmaking. Ensuring the consistent identification of critical elements such as vehicles, pedestrians, and road lanes, even in adverse weather, is a paramount objective. This paper not only provides a comprehensive review of the literature on object detection (OD) under adverse weather conditions but also delves into the ever-evolving realm of the architecture of AVs, challenges for automated vehicles in adverse weather, the basic structure of OD, and explores the landscape of traditional and deep learning (DL) approaches for OD within the realm of AVs. These approaches are essential for advancing the capabilities of AVs in recognizing and responding to objects in their surroundings. This paper further investigates previous research that has employed both traditional and DL methodologies for the detection of vehicles, pedestrians, and road lanes, effectively linking these approaches with the evolving field of AVs. Moreover, this paper offers an in-depth analysis of the datasets commonly employed in AV research, with a specific focus on the detection of key elements in various environmental conditions, and then summarizes the evaluation matrix. Recent technological developments have enabled computers to identify and categorize facial expressions to determine a person's emotional state in an image or a video. This process, called "Facial Expression Recognition (FER)", has become one of the most popular research areas in computer vision. In recent times, deep FER systems have primarily concentrated on addressing two significant challenges: the problem of overfitting due to limited training data availability, and the presence of expression-unrelated variations, including illumination, head pose, image resolution, and identity bias. In this paper, a comprehensive survey is provided on deep FER, encompassing algorithms and datasets that offer insights into these intrinsic problems. Initially, this paper presents a detailed timeline showcasing the evolution of methods and datasets in deep facial expression recognition (FER). This timeline illustrates the progression and development of the techniques and data resources used in FER. Then, a comprehensive review of FER methods is introduced, including the basic principles of FER (components such as preprocessing, feature extraction and classification, and methods, etc.) from the pro-deep learning era (traditional methods using handcrafted features, i.e., SVM and HOG, etc.) to the deep learning era. Moreover, a brief introduction is provided related to the benchmark datasets (there are two categories: controlled environments (lab) and uncontrolled environments (in the wild)) used to evaluate different FER methods and a comparison of different FER models. Existing deep neural networks and related training strategies designed for FER, based on static images and dynamic image sequences, are discussed. Multiple objects tracking in a video sequence can be performed by detecting and distinguishing the objects that appear in the sequence. In the context of computer vision, the robust multi-object tracking problem is a difficult problem to solve. Visual tracking of multiple objects is a vital part of an autonomous driving vehicle's vision technology. Wide-area video surveillance is increasingly using advanced imaging devices with increased megapixel resolution and increased frame rates. As a result, there is a huge increase in demand for high-performance computation system of video surveillance systems for real-time processing of high-resolution videos. As a result, in this paper, we used a single stage framework to solve the MOT problem. We proposed a novel architecture in this paper that allows for the efficient use of one and multiple GPUs are used to process Full High Definition video in real time. For high-resolution video and images, the suggested approach is real-time multi-object detection based on Enhanced Yolov5-7S on Multi-GPU Vertex. We added one more layer at the top in backbone to increase the resolution of feature extracted image to detect small object and increase the accuracy of model. Spatio-temporal action detection (STAD) aims to classify the actions present in a video and localize them in space and time. It has become a particularly active area of research in computer vision because of its explosively emerging real-world applications, such as autonomous driving, visual surveillance and entertainment. Many efforts have been devoted in recent years to build a robust and effective framework for STAD. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the state-of-the-art deep learning-based methods for STAD. First, a taxonomy is developed to organize these methods. Next, the linking algorithms, which aim to associate the frame- or clip-level detection results together to form action tubes, are reviewed. Then, the commonly used benchmark datasets and evaluation metrics are introduced, and the performance of state-of-the-art models is compared. This paper proposes an image compression algorithm based on Swin Transformer and residual network (STRN), aiming to reduce blurring and distortions in traditionally compressed images. The algorithm utilizes a dual-channel mechanism to remove artifacts from the image, which takes advantage of the complementary features of the transform and residual networks. The Swin Transformer networks address the issue of long-range dependency, leading to an enhanced and improved reconstructed image quality. The residual network is an effective network that mitigates gradient loss and recovers image details during the image compression process. The paper demonstrates that image compression can be achieved by training a convolutional network based on a transformer and residuals network, which significantly reduces artifacts and provides better reconstructed image quality compared to previously used and current mainstream methods based on traditional convolutional neural networks. The proposed approach can remove blocking artifacts by subtracting estimated artifacts from the input image, while still preserving most of the original details. Therefore, our proposed method is highly effective in improving image quality and reducing visual artifacts caused by traditional compression methods. Conventional motion predictions have achieved promising performance. However, the length of the predicted motion sequences of most literatures are short, and the rhythm of the generated pose sequence has rarely been explored. To pursue high quality, rhythmic, and long-term pose sequence prediction, this paper explores a novel dancing with the sound task, which is appealing and challenging in computer vision field. To tackle this problem, a novel model is proposed, which takes the sound as an indicator input and outputs the dancing pose sequence. Specifically, our model is based on the variational autoencoder (VAE) framework, which encodes the continuity and rhythm of the sound information into the hidden space to generate a coherent, diverse, rhythmic and long-term pose video. Extensive experiments validated the effectiveness of audio cues in the generation of dancing pose sequences. Image and video inpainting is a classic problem in computer vision and computer graphics, aiming to fill in the plausible and realistic content in the missing areas of images and videos. With the advance of deep learning, this problem has achieved significant progress recently. The goal of this paper is to comprehensively review the deep learning-based methods for image and video inpainting. Specifically, we sort existing methods into different categories from the perspective of their high-level inpainting pipeline, present different deep learning architectures, including CNN, VAE, GAN, diffusion models, etc., and summarize techniques for module design. We review the training objectives and the common benchmark datasets. We present evaluation metrics for low-level pixel and high-level perceptional similarity, conduct a performance evaluation, and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of representative inpainting methods. Recently, computer vision and artificial intelligence are being used as enabling technologies for plant phenotyping studies, since they allow the analysis of large amounts of data gathered by the sensors. Plant phenotyping studies can be devoted to the evaluation of complex plant traits either on the aerial part of the plant as well as on the underground part, to extract meaningful information about the growth, development, tolerance, or resistance of the plant itself. All plant traits should be evaluated automatically and quantitatively measured in a non-destructive way. This paper describes a novel approach for identifying plant roots from images of the root system architecture using a convolutional neural network (CNN) that operates on small image patches calculating the probability that the center point of the patch is a root pixel. Deep learning, a subset of machine learning that utilizes neural networks, has seen significant advancements in recent years. These advancements have led to breakthroughs in a wide range of fields, from natural language processing to computer vision, and have the potential to revolutionize many industries or organizations. They have also demonstrated exceptional performance in the identification and mapping of seagrass images. However, these deep learning models, particularly the popular Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) require architectural engineering and hyperparameter tuning. This paper proposes a Deep Neuroevolutionary (DNE) model that can automate the architectural engineering and hyperparameter tuning of CNNs models by developing and using a novel metaheuristic algorithm, named 'Boosted Atomic Orbital Search (BAOS)'. The proposed BAOS is an improved version of the recently proposed Atomic Orbital Search (AOS) algorithm which is based on the principle of atomic model and quantum mechanics. The proposed algorithm leverages the power of the Lévy flight technique to boost the performance of the AOS algorithm. The proposed DNE algorithm (BAOS-CNN) is trained, evaluated and compared with six popular optimisation algorithms on a patch-based multi-species seagrass dataset. This proposed BAOS-CNN model achieves the highest overall accuracy (97.48%) among the seven evolutionary-based CNN models. The proposed model also achieves the state-of-the-art overall accuracy of 92.30% and 93.5% on the publicly available four classes and five classes version of the 'DeepSeagrass' dataset, respectively. As an all-in-one process that blended design, materials, and manufacturing, additive manufacturing (AM) adopted a bottom-up stacking approach, thereby avoiding excessive infrastructure and complex production steps. However, the different process stages of AM were influenced by multi-scale factors such as material characteristics, parameter settings, and process stability, resulting in uncertainty. Therefore, the effective containment and accurate evaluation of automated production processes were crucial. With the rapid development and widespread application of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in the Industry 4.0 era, computer vision (CV) techniques, as an important component, could achieve multi-level understanding of the real world through traditional machine learning (ML) and efficient deep learning (DL) approaches based on information-dense cross-media data such as images, videos, and three-dimensional models. Hence, the organic integration of CV and AM was of great significance for the virtual simulation, global perception, real-time monitoring, and quality measurement of the machining processes. Accurate cloud quantification is essential in climate change research. In this work, we construct an automated computer vision framework by synergistically incorporating deep neural networks and finite-sector clustering to achieve robust whole-sky image-based cloud classification, adaptive segmentation and recognition under intricate illumination dynamics. A bespoke YOLOv8 (You Only Look Once 8) architecture attains over 95 % categorical precision across four archetypal cloud varieties curated from extensive annual observations (2020) at a Tibetan highland station. Tailor-made segmentation strategies adapted to distinct cloud configurations, allied with illumination-invariant image enhancement algorithms, effectively eliminate solar interference and substantially boost quantitative performance even in illumination-adverse analysis scenarios. Compared with the traditional threshold analysis method, the cloud quantification accuracy calculated within the framework of this paper is significantly improved. Road extraction from high-resolution remote sensing images has long been a focal and challenging research topic in the field of computer vision. Accurate extraction of road networks holds extensive practical value in various fields, such as urban planning, traffic monitoring, disaster response and environmental monitoring. With rapid development in the field of computational intelligence, particularly breakthroughs in deep learning technology, road extraction technology has made significant progress and innovation. This paper provides a systematic review of deep learning-based methods for road extraction from remote sensing images, focusing on analyzing the application of computational intelligence technologies in improving the precision and efficiency of road extraction. According to the type of annotated data, deep learning-based methods are categorized into fully supervised learning, semi-supervised learning, and unsupervised learning approaches, each further divided into more specific subcategories. Additionally, this review summarizes the metrics used to evaluate the performance of road extraction models and the high-resolution remote sensing image datasets applied for road extraction. Simple Summary: Breast cancer is a significant cause of female cancer-related deaths in the US. Checking how severe the cancer is helps in planning treatment. Modern AI methods are good at grading cancer, but they are not used much in hospitals yet. We developed and utilized ensemble deep learning algorithms for addressing the tasks of classifying (1) breast cancer subtype and (2) breast cancer invasiveness from whole slide image (WSI) histopathology slides. The ensemble models used were based on convolutional neural networks (CNNs) known for extracting distinctive features crucial for accurate classification. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive analysis of these models and the used methodology for breast cancer diagnosis tasks. Cancer diagnosis and classification are pivotal for effective patient management and treatment planning. In this study, a comprehensive approach is presented utilizing ensemble deep learning techniques to analyze breast cancer histopathology images. Our datasets were based on two widely employed datasets from different centers for two different tasks: BACH and BreakHis. Within the BACH dataset, a proposed ensemble strategy was employed, incorporating VGG16 and ResNet50 architectures to achieve precise classification of breast cancer histopathology images. Introducing a novel image patching technique to preprocess a high-resolution image facilitated a focused analysis of localized regions of interest. The annotated BACH dataset encompassed 400 WSIs across four distinct classes: Normal, Benign, In Situ Carcinoma, and Invasive Carcinoma. In addition, the proposed ensemble was used on the BreakHis dataset, utilizing VGG16, ResNet34, and ResNet50 models to classify microscopic images into eight distinct categories (four benign and four malignant). For both datasets, a five-fold cross-validation approach was employed for rigorous training and testing. Preliminary experimental results indicated a patch classification accuracy of 95.31% (for the BACH dataset) and WSI image classification accuracy of 98.43% (BreakHis). Multi-Object Tracking, also known as Multi-Target Tracking, is an important area of computer vision with various applications in different domains. The advent of deep learning has had a profound impact on this field, forcing researchers to explore innovative avenues. Deep learning methods have become the cornerstone of today's state-of-the-art solutions, consistently delivering exceptional tracking results. However, the significant computational demands of deep learning models require powerful hardware resources that do not always match real-time tracking requirements, limiting their practical applicability in real-world scenarios. Thus, there is an imperative to strike a balance by merging robust deep learning strategies with conventional approaches to enable more accessible, cost-effective solutions that meet real-time requirements. This paper embarks on this endeavor by presenting a hybrid strategy for real-time multi-target tracking. It effectively combines a classical optical flow algorithm with a deep learning architecture tailored for human crowd tracking systems. This hybrid approach achieves a commendable balance between tracking accuracy and computational efficiency. The proposed architecture, subjected to extensive experimentation in various settings, demonstrated notable results, achieving a Mean Object Tracking Accuracy (MOTA) of 0.608. This level of performance placed it as the highest ranking solution on the MOT15 benchmark, surpassing the state-of-the-art benchmark of 0.549, and consistently ranked among the superior models on the MOT17 and MOT20 benchmarks. Through our respiratory system, many viruses and diseases frequently spread and pass from one person to another. Covid-19 served as an example of how crucial it is to track down and cut back on contacts to stop its spread. There is a clear gap in finding automatic methods that can detect hand-to-face contact in complex urban scenes or indoors. In this paper, we introduce a computer vision framework, called FaceTouch, based on deep learning. It comprises deep sub-models to detect humans and analyse their actions. FaceTouch seeks to detect hand-to-face touches in the wild, such as through video chats, bus footage, or CCTV feeds. Despite partial occlusion of faces, the introduced system learns to detect face touches from the RGB representation of a given scene by utilising the representation of the body gestures such as arm movement. This has been demonstrated to be useful in complex urban scenarios beyond simply identifying hand movement and its closeness to faces. Relying on Supervised Contrastive Learning, the introduced model is trained on our collected dataset, given the absence of other benchmark datasets. The recent adoption of deep learning-based models for the processing and coding of multimedia signals has brought noticeable gains in performance, which have established deep learning-based solutions as the uncontested state-of-the-art both for computer vision tasks, targeting machine consumption, as well as, more recently, coding applications, targeting human visualization. Traditionally, applications requiring both coding and computer vision processing require first decoding the bitstream and then applying the computer vision methods to the decompressed multimedia signals. However, the adoption of deep learning-based solutions enables the use of compressed domain computer vision processing, with gains in performance and computational complexity over the decompressed domain approach. For point clouds (PCs), these gains have been demonstrated in the single available compressed domain computer vision processing solution, named Compressed Domain PC Classifier, which processes JPEG Pleno PC coding (PCC) compressed streams using a PC classifier largely compatible with the state-of-the-art spatial domain PointGrid classifier. However, the available Compressed Domain PC Classifier presents strong limitations by imposing a single, specific input size which is associated to specific JPEG Pleno PCC configurations; this limits the compression performance as these configurations are not ideal for all PCs due to their different characteristics, notably density. To overcome these limitations, this paper proposes the first Adaptive Compressed Domain PC Classifier solution which includes a novel adaptive bridge model that allows to process the JPEG Pleno PCC encoded bit streams using different coding configurations, now maximizing the compression efficiency. Experimental results show that the novel Adaptive Compressed Domain PC Classifier allows JPEG PCC to achieve better compression performance by not imposing a single, specific coding configuration for all PCs, regardless of its different characteristics. Moreover, the added adaptability power can achieve slightly better PC classification performance than the previous Compressed Domain PC Classifier and largely better PC classification performance (and lower number of weights) than the PointGrid PC classifier working in the decompressed domain. Traditional digital image processing techniques face problems such as complex feature extraction and weak robustness when dealing with surface defects of multiple categories of electronic components. Deep learning is widely used in industrial defect detection. However, the performance of electronic component defect detection at the pixel segmentation level needs to be improved. For pixel-level defect detection, this paper constructs a defect detection model (ECSDDNet) for electronic component surface defects in computer vision engineering management system. To improve the segmentation accuracy and detection effect, three stages of experiments are conducted to address mis-segmentation problems and the shortcomings of the Unet network structure. Firstly, a classification network that can perform weight transfer is used to replace the encoding structure in the Unet network. Secondly, a simplified version of the feature fusion is proposed and added to the skip connection of the Unet network. Finally, label smoothing is used to optimize the loss and improve the generalization of the network. After the optimization experiment, some noisy contours and small defect contours that are mis-segmented are removed. Experimental results show that ECSDDNet has good segmentation effects on electronic component surface defects and can meet the segmentation and detection needs of electronic component surface defects. Due to the emergence and advancement of deep learning technologies, scene text detection is becoming more widespread in various fields. However, due to the complexity of distances, angles and backgrounds, the adjacent texts in images have the problem that the detection boxes are far away from the texts, i.e., a position is not accurate enough. In this paper, we propose a text detection method centered on double ResNet-based and changed channels recursive feature pyramid, which integrates ResNet50-Mish and Res2Net50-Mish, as well as using recursive feature pyramid with changed channels. Firstly, scene images are fed into ResNet50-Mish and Res2Net50-Mish of double ResNet-based, and results are passed through a weight-based addition step to generate the fused feature maps. Secondly, the processed feature maps of double ResNet-based are sent into changed channels recursive feature pyramid to obtain feature maps with enhanced feature information. Also, the relevant segmentation results are then obtained by concatenating and convoluting. Finally, the results are given to progressive scale expansion algorithm to output the location of texts in images. The proposed model is trained and tested on ICDAR15 and CTW1500 benchmark datasets. In terms of precision values, our method outperforms or is comparable to state-of-the-art methods. In recent years, deep metric learning and its probabilistic extensions claimed state-of-the-art results in the face verification task. Despite improvements in face verification, probabilistic methods received little attention in the research community and practical applications. Previous metric learning benchmarks avoided comparison with probabilistic methods, and it is still unclear whether they generalize well to image retrieval tasks beyond faces. In this paper, we, for the first time, perform an in-depth analysis and unified comparison of known probabilistic methods in verification and retrieval tasks. We study different design choices and argue that many of them have limited impact, while only a few probabilistic methods surpass modern metric learning approaches. Combining the best ideas of earlier works, we propose a simple modification of the top-performing method, achieving new state-of-the-art results among probabilistic methods. Finally, we study confidence prediction and show that it correlates with data quality, but contains little information about prediction error probability. Accelerometers are commonly used to measure vibrations for condition monitoring in mechanical and civil structures; however, their high cost and point-based measurement approach present practical limitations. With rapid advancements in computer vision and deep learning, research into tracking the motion of individual pixels with vision cameras has increased. The recently developed CoTracker, a transformer-based model, has demonstrated excellence in motion tracking, yet its performance in measuring structural vibrations has not been fully explored. This paper investigates the efficacy of the CoTracker model in extracting full-field structural vibrations using cameras. It is initially applied to capture the dense point movements in video sequences of a cantilever beam recorded using a high-speed camera. Subsequently, modal analysis using delay-embedding dynamic mode decomposition (DMD) is conducted to extract modal parameters including natural frequencies, damping ratios, and mode shapes. Advancements in imaging, computer vision, and automation have revolutionized various fields, including field-based high-throughput plant phenotyping (FHTPP). This integration allows for the rapid and accurate measurement of plant traits. Deep Convolutional Neural Networks (DCNNs) have emerged as a powerful tool in FHTPP, particularly in crop segmentation—identifying crops from the background—crucial for trait analysis. However, the effectiveness of DCNNs often hinges on the availability of large, labeled datasets, which poses a challenge due to the high cost of labeling. In this study, a deep learning with bagging approach is introduced to enhance crop segmentation using high-resolution RGB images, tested on the NU-Spidercam dataset from maize plots. The proposed method outperforms traditional machine learning and deep learning models in prediction accuracy and speed. Remarkably, it achieves up to 40 % higher Intersection-over-Union (IoU) than the threshold method and 11 % over conventional machine learning, with significantly faster prediction times and manageable training duration. Crucially, it demonstrates that even small labeled datasets can yield high accuracy in semantic segmentation. This approach not only proves effective for FHTPP but also suggests potential for broader application in remote sensing, offering a scalable solution to semantic segmentation challenges. Deep learning has achieved immense success in computer vision and has the potential to help physicians analyze visual content for disease and other abnormalities. However, the current state of deep learning is very much a black box, making medical professionals skeptical about integrating these methods into clinical practice. Several methods have been proposed to shed some light on these black boxes, but there is no consensus on the opinion of medical doctors that will consume these explanations. This paper presents a study asking medical professionals about their opinion of current state-of-the-art explainable artificial intelligence methods when applied to a gastrointestinal disease detection use case. We compare two different categories of explanation methods, intrinsic and extrinsic, and gauge their opinion of the current value of these explanations. The results indicate that intrinsic explanations are preferred and that physicians see value in the explanations. Based on the feedback collected in our study, future explanations of medical deep neural networks can be tailored to the needs and expectations of doctors. Image restoration under adverse weather conditions poses a challenging task. Previous research efforts have predominantly focused on eliminating rain and fog phenomena from images. However, snow, being another common atmospheric occurrence, also significantly impacts advanced computer vision tasks such as object detection and semantic segmentation. Recently, there has been a surge of methods specifically targeting snow removal, with the majority employing visual Transformers as the backbone network to enhance restoration effectiveness. Nevertheless, due to the quadratic computations required by Transformers to model long-range dependencies, this significantly escalates the time and space consumption of deep learning models. To address this issue, this paper proposes an efficient snow removal Transformer with a global windowing network (SGNet). This method forgoes the localized windowing strategy of previous visual Transformers, opting instead to partition the image into multiple low-resolution subimages containing global information using wavelet sampling, thereby ensuring higher performance while reducing computational overhead. Extensive experimentation demonstrates that our approach achieves outstanding performance across a wide range of benchmark datasets and can rival methods employing CNNs in terms of computational cost. The field of computer vision has been focusing on achieving accurate three-dimensional (3D) object representations from a single two-dimensional (2D) image through deep artificial neural networks. Recent advancements in 3D shape reconstruction techniques that combine structured light and deep learning show promise in acquiring high-quality geometric information about object surfaces. This paper introduces a new single-shot 3D shape reconstruction method that uses a nonlinear fringe transformation approach through both supervised and unsupervised learning networks. In this method, a deep learning network learns to convert a grayscale fringe input into multiple phase-shifted fringe outputs with different frequencies, which act as an intermediate result for the subsequent 3D reconstruction process using the structured-light fringe projection profilometry technique. Experiments have been conducted to validate the practicality and robustness of the proposed technique. The experimental results demonstrate that the unsupervised learning approach using a deep convolutional generative adversarial network (DCGAN) is superior to the supervised learning approach using UNet in image-to-image generation. The proposed technique's ability to accurately reconstruct 3D shapes of objects using only a single fringe image opens up vast opportunities for its application across diverse real-world scenarios. The sky may seem big enough for two flying vehicles to collide, but the facts show that mid-air collisions still occur occasionally and are a significant concern. Pilots learn manual tactics to avoid collisions, such as see-and-avoid, but these rules have limitations. Automated solutions have reduced collisions, but these technologies are not mandatory in all countries or airspaces, and they are expensive. These problems have prompted researchers to continue the search for low-cost solutions. One attractive solution is to use computer vision to detect obstacles in the air due to its reduced cost and weight. A well-trained deep learning solution is appealing because object detection is fast in most cases, but it relies entirely on the training data set. The algorithm chosen for this study is optical flow. The optical flow vectors can help us to separate the motion caused by camera motion from the motion caused by incoming objects without relying on training data. This paper describes the development of an optical flow-based airborne obstacle detection algorithm to avoid mid-air collisions. The approach uses the visual information from a monocular camera and detects the obstacles using morphological filters, optical flow, focus of expansion, and a data clustering algorithm. The proposal was evaluated using realistic vision data obtained with a self-developed simulator. The simulator provides different environments, trajectories, and altitudes of flying objects. The results showed that the optical flow-based algorithm detected all incoming obstacles along their trajectories in the experiments. Thanks to the rapid development of deep learning in recent years, image inpainting has made significant progress. As a fundamental task in the field of computer vision, many researchers are committed to exploring more efficient methods, and state-of-the-art research results prove that generative adversarial networks (GAN) have superior performance. However, due to the inherent ill-posedness of image inpainting tasks, these approaches suffer from lack of detailed information, local structural fractures or boundary artifacts. In this paper, we leverage the properties of GAN architecture to process images in more detail and more comprehensively. A novel dual U-Net GAN is designed to inpaint images, which is composed of a U-Net based generator and a U-Net-based discriminator. The former captures semantic information of different scales layer by layer and decodes it back to the original size to repair damaged images, while the latter optimizes the network by combining reconstruction loss, adversarial loss, perceptual loss and style loss. In particular, the U-Net-based discriminator allows per-pixel detail and global feedback to be provided to the generator, guaranteeing the global consistency of the inpainted image and the realism of local shapes and textures. Extensive experiments demonstrate that for different proportions of damage, the images inpainted by our proposed model have reasonable texture structure and contextual semantic information. Violence detection is a critical task aimed at identifying violent behavior in video by extracting frames and applying classification models. However, the complexity of video data and the suddenness of violent events present significant hurdles in accurately pinpointing instances of violence, making the extraction of frames that indicate violence a challenging endeavor. Furthermore, designing and applying high-performance models for violence detection remains an open problem. Traditional models embed extracted spatial features from sampled frames directly into a temporal sequence, which ignores the spatio-temporal characteristics of video and limits the ability to express continuous changes between adjacent frames. To address the existing challenges, this paper proposes a novel framework called ACTION-VST. First, a keyframe extraction algorithm is developed to select frames that are most likely to represent violent scenes in videos. To transform visual sequences into spatio-temporal feature maps, a multi-path excitation module is proposed to activate spatio-temporal, channel and motion features. Next, an advanced Video Swin Transformer-based network is employed for both global and local spatio-temporal modeling, which enables comprehensive feature extraction and representation of violence. Research on wildlife monitoring methods is a crucial tool for the conservation of rare wildlife in China. However, the fact that rare wildlife monitoring images in field scenes are easily affected by complex scene information, poorly illuminated, obscured, and blurred limits their use. This often results in unstable recognition and low accuracy levels. To address this issue, this paper proposes a novel wildlife identification model for rare animals in Giant Panda National Park (GPNP). We redesigned the C3 module of YOLOv5 using NAMAttention and the MemoryEfficientMish activation function to decrease the weight of field scene features. Additionally, we integrated the WIoU boundary loss function to mitigate the influence of low-quality images during training, resulting in the development of the NMW-YOLOv5 model. Our model achieved 97.3% for mAP50 and 83.3% for mAP50:95 in the LoTE-Animal dataset. When comparing the model with some classical YOLO models for the purpose of conducting comparison experiments, it surpasses the current best-performing model by 1.6% for mAP50:95, showcasing a high level of recognition accuracy. In the generalization ability test, the model has a low error rate for most rare wildlife species and is generally able to identify wildlife in the wild environment of the GPNP with greater accuracy. It has been demonstrated that NMW-YOLOv5 significantly enhances wildlife recognition accuracy in field environments by eliminating irrelevant features and extracting deep, effective features. Furthermore, it exhibits strong detection and recognition capabilities for rare wildlife in GPNP field environments. This could offer a new and effective tool for rare wildlife monitoring in GPNP. Person Re-Identification falls within the scope of computer vision, acting a technique to ascertain the presence of a specified pedestrian within a video or image library. The related research is of great significance in real-world environments such as criminal investigation and statistical analysis of commercial foot traffic and has received extensive attention from the academic community. However, traditional methods such as manual extraction cannot adapt to largescale data volumes, and deep learning-based methods at this stage suffer from interference in complex environments such as similar costumes, perspective changes, and occlusion. Firstly, we expand the dataset by introducing random erasure-based preprocessing of pedestrian images to enhancing the robustness and generalization capability of neural networks. Secondly, a composite attention mechanism is introduced after the network residual layer to enhance the spatial information capability and feature expression. Finally, the union loss composed of Circle Loss, Ternary Loss, and Cross Entropy Loss was chosen for network training in the loss optimization phase. Findings from the experiments reveal that the improved method proposed in this experiment achieves 96.0%Rank-1 and 88.3%mAP in Market1501, which reflects the validity of the approach proposed in this manuscript, and provides valuable reference suggestions for Person Re-Identification related research. Remote sensing datasets usually have a wide range of spatial and spectral resolutions. They provide unique advantages in surveillance systems, and many government organizations use remote sensing multispectral imagery to monitor security-critical infrastructures or targets. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has advanced rapidly in recent years and has been widely applied to remote image analysis, achieving state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance. However, AI models are vulnerable and can be easily deceived or poisoned. A malicious user may poison an AI model by creating a stealthy backdoor. A backdoored AI model performs well on clean data but behaves abnormally when a planted trigger appears in the data. Backdoor attacks have been extensively studied in machine learning-based computer vision applications with natural images. However, much less research has been conducted on remote sensing imagery, which typically consists of many more bands in addition to the red, green, and blue bands found in natural images. In this paper, we first extensively studied a popular backdoor attack, BadNets, applied to a remote sensing dataset, where the trigger was planted in all of the bands in the data. Our results showed that SOTA defense mechanisms, including Neural Cleanse, TABOR, Activation Clustering, Fine-Pruning, GangSweep, Strip, DeepInspect, and Pixel Backdoor, had difficulties detecting and mitigating the backdoor attack. We then proposed an explainable AI-guided backdoor attack specifically for remote sensing imagery by placing triggers in the image sub-bands. Our proposed attack model even poses stronger challenges to these SOTA defense mechanisms, and no method was able to defend it. Medical image segmentation is crucial for clinical applications, but challenges persist due to noise and variability. In particular, accurate glottis segmentation from high-speed videos is vital for voice research and diagnostics. Manual searching for failed segmentations is labor-intensive, prompting interest in automated methods. This paper proposes the first deep learning approach for detecting faulty glottis segmentations. For this purpose, faulty segmentations are generated by applying both a poorly performing neural network and perturbation procedures to three public datasets. Heavy data augmentations are added to the input until the neural network's performance decreases to the desired mean intersection over union (IoU). Likewise, the perturbation procedure involves a series of image transformations to the original ground truth segmentations in a randomized manner. These data are then used to train a ResNet18 neural network with custom loss functions to predict the IoU scores of faulty segmentations. This value is then thresholded with a fixed IoU of 0.6 for classification, thereby achieving 88.27% classification accuracy with 91.54% specificity. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the presented approach. Contributions include: (i) a knowledge-driven perturbation procedure, (ii) a deep learning framework for scoring and detecting faulty glottis segmentations, and (iii) an evaluation of custom loss functions. Structural engineers are often required to draw two-dimensional engineering sketches for quick structural analysis, either by hand calculation or using analysis software. However, calculation by hand is slow and error-prone, and the manual conversion of a hand-drawn sketch into a virtual model is tedious and time-consuming. This paper presents a complete and autonomous framework for converting a hand-drawn engineering sketch into an analyzed structural model using a camera and computer vision. In this framework, a computer vision object detection stage initially extracts information about the raw features in the image of the beam diagram. Next, a computer vision number-reading model transcribes any handwritten numerals appearing in the image. Then, feature association models are applied to characterize the relationships among the detected features in order to build a comprehensive structural model. Finally, the structural model generated is analyzed using OpenSees. In the system presented, the object detection model achieves a mean average precision of 99.1%, the number-reading model achieves an accuracy of 99.0%, and the models in the feature association stage achieve accuracies ranging from 95.1% to 99.5%. Overall, the tool analyzes 45.0% of images entirely correctly and the remaining 55.0% of images partially correctly. The proposed framework holds promise for other types of structural sketches, such as trusses and frames. This paper proposed a personalized music recommendation system powered by deep learning, explicitly utilizing convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to address the challenges posed by expanding music libraries and diverse song resources. In today's era of ever-growing music databases and increasing content diversity, more than traditional retrieval methods are needed to efficiently connect users with their preferred track. Traditional music platforms rely solely on retrieval mechanisms, necessitating manual inputs such as artist names and titles to locate specific songs. However, this approach needs in-depth music data analysis and delivers personalized recommendations generated by various deep learning-based algorithms. This paper bridges this gap by harnessing deep learning algorithms for comprehensive music data analysis and personalized song suggestions. The proposed CNN-based recommendation system explores the domains of deep learning and content-based approaches, empowering users to discover their favorite tunes swiftly. This innovative mechanism leverages CNNs and deep learning algorithms to offer efficient, personalized, and data-driven music recommendations, transforming the user experience with their music collections. In experimental results, the proposed CNN model is compared with various deep learning algorithms, including DNN, RNN, and LSTM, as well as traditional algorithms like SVM, KNN, RF, and DT. Various concrete bridges have been built across oceans, valleys, and mountains; however, the settlement displacement of bridge piers caused by environmental changes or self-weight during construction phases often leads to uneven stresses, cracking, and eventual collapse. To address the labor-intensive and high-cost issues of pier displacement monitoring using contact-type sensors, this paper proposes an automatic vision-based method for measuring pier settlement displacement under complex construction environments, such as complex image backgrounds, varying ambient light, and camera movement. In the proposed method, a deep learning network was first employed to eliminate the adverse effect of complex image backgrounds and varying ambient light on the accuracy of target detection; then, an adaptive displacement extraction algorithm without a human-computer interaction process was developed to automatically extract the center coordinates of targets attaching to the bridge piers and reference platform; finally, the pier settlement displacement was calculated by using the relative displacements obtained by a dual camera system to eliminate the measurement error caused by camera translation and rotation movements. Laboratory tests of a cantilever beam and field tests of a continuous multispan concrete girder highway bridge under construction have successfully validated the effectiveness and robustness of the developed methodology.
